First off, I know there's a dedicated area in big/slim/whatever but I'm after traffic as it's a bit quiet in the WW section. Second, I know that 5:2 and low carb are popular on MN but neither of them suit me whereas I've lost weight with WW in the fairly distant past and regained due to unrelated issues which I'll leave out for now. I'm sure there are plenty of opinions on why it doesn't work but for me it does.

Just wondering if anyone is thinking of signing up and would like a support thread over on the WW board. I have at least 4st to lose and would appreciate it. I can't go to meetings as they don't fit in with work, so will be doing it online (half price on the website at the moment and Top Cashback give a few quid back). Anyone in?

Morning everyone , I started (again) yesterday . I have 2 stone to lose and I really need to keep up the motivation .

I am fine with breakfast and evening meal but really struggle with lunches . How many times can you eat soup with ryvita and Philly without giving up ?

Also need to cut down on the booze . It's not so much the calories in the booze but the calories I inhale without thinking once I have a glass in my hand Blush

Off to read through thread and get some ideas .

SunFinished · 07/02/2017 21:01

Hi all, was invited to come over to the thread by ken thanks for that! Smile
I joined WW last week with meetings and online. Was so nervous about it but actually it was fine and has been fine and I'm doing ok. Lost around 4lbs in th me first week (day 7 today). I do have a lot to go though. I'm getting worried as we have a family birthday coming up and I would usually binge hard but I really don't want to. Everyone else will be eating what they like and my DP eats what he wants all day on days like this but has the willpower to be very low calorie for a week after so he evens out. I can't starve or fast as he says, like that.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 07/02/2017 21:45

Hiya Sun , glad you came over.
My class leader has had some excellent advice for big birthdays etc . It's inevitable you'll treat yourself but have the treats , track what you eat anyway but only fall off on that day . The day before , day after normal rules apply.
If you're anything like me and it's an event on a Saturday I'll go mad on the Friday and Sunday too.
It has helped and you're not expected to not have fun otherwise you'll give up for good.

toastandnutella · 08/02/2017 10:57

Im thinking if joining WW on Saturday (perhaps change my nameSmile)
Would you recommend?

Howlongtillbedtime · 08/02/2017 11:54

I would recommend. I have done it in the past with good results and in Oct and Nov I was really on it and lost 1 1/2 stones which I have kept off ( i then went off track completely in dec and january ) but I am now back on it to lose my last two stone .

I am doing online and tracking using the app .

Good luck .

toastandnutella · 08/02/2017 15:00

If you join online can you still attend meetings?
I will struggle to attend every week but could manage here and there.
Sorry to ask if the answer is on website !!

SunFinished · 08/02/2017 15:16

Thanks ken yeh your right, gotta really reign it in and be ultra good on the day before and after. I seriously used to binge hard though like stuff my face it's not right. I can't do that anymore and don't want to do I will stick to tracking it. I find the app so good

namechangedtoday15 · 08/02/2017 15:50

I don;t think you can toast - think the subcription is meetings, online, or meetings and online!

I think it depends on what and how you eat. I did try slimming world for a while last year but my issue is portion control so someone telling me I can have as much pasta as I want (or until comfortably full - if I knew what that meant I wouldn't be fat Smile!) and in my view there is more restriction on the things you can eat (and the 15 syns a day - for things you want on top of the "free" food didn't go very far). With WW, as long as you point everything, nothing is out of bounds which suits me.

I joined the 1st week in January (so have had 4 weigh ins) and I've lost 8lbs (my aim was 2 stone so I still have about 1.5 stones to go!).

Sussex1983 · 08/02/2017 16:10

I brought all my food into work, totally on track for being on target today - then scoffed 3 squares of fudge that I wasn't even (really) wanting - just mindless eating that's pushed me over my daily points by the time I have dinner) Why do I do this ?!

MsJuniper · 08/02/2017 18:54

I had weigh in last night and lost 3lbs which I was pleased with - was convinced it would be 0-1 as I felt really bloated. That's 9lbs now over 4 weeks so fairly steady.

Not hugely impressed with our leader so far - she is lovely but very scatty and inexperienced. The meetings are still 1000x better than SW though.

SunFinished · 08/02/2017 19:33

That's great MsJ! Well done!
Does anyone have any good ideas of what to do with sweet potato that will be lowest SP?

KenDoddsDadsDog · 09/02/2017 20:18

Well done Ms !!
1lb for me tonight so I've 1 to go for my half stone a half term.

GiGiraffe · 10/02/2017 18:27

Sunfinished I usually make chips with sweet potato and stick them in the actifryer / oven with a spritz of fry light and paprika and salt

sez49 · 11/02/2017 22:48

After gaining (a totally undeserved) 4lbs nearly four weeks ago, I lost 5lbs the week after (felt a bit fed up as only averaged 0.5lb each week over the two weeks). But not to be deterred, I stuck with it and lost 3.5lbs the next week, which got me to 75lbs, which I was very happy with. Last week I lost 5.5lbs. So 10lbs in total over the last four weeks, averages out to 2.5lbs a week. It can be so hard when the scales don't reflect what is deserved some weeks, but it is worth persevering!

Miffytastic · 13/02/2017 11:15

I need a good talking to! Birthdays, parties and celebrations have meant this week's diet has consisted of too much cake, crisps, chocolate, curry and champagne (and things that don't start with c...)
I feel totally off the wagon, and a bit shit that once again I've found a convenient excuse for eating. Sigh...the nice clothes will never fit :-( and I'm PAYING for a service I've not used all week as well.
just had a pain au chocolat FML.

sez49 · 13/02/2017 17:24

Miffytastic. I can sympathise. I was paying for a service I hadn't been using for so many years! I am at last in 'the zone', but it has taken me so long to get there. I was finding that there was always something on, meal out with friends, family get together, birthdays, celebrations, Christmas, Easter, holidays, etc. I have decided that for now, I will be more in control with these things, as I can't keep making excuses for them all, all of the time. But I have been where you are, for far too many years! It is so hard and there is constantly temptation around us. Just out this week behind you and try to get back on track. Tomorrow is a new day. Take it one day at a time. For me, planning ahead for some of these diffficult events, can help and knowing I have fitpoints earned to fall back on if I really need them, helps too. You will do this. Nobody is perfect all the time.

poorpaws · 13/02/2017 23:41

Hi Miffy. We've both been here before and we KNOW what to do!
I'm just doing the same as you, I ate everything in sight again last week and am so sick of myself . I've started yet again on the diet today . I could do with your support; we both know you can do this.

Miffytastic · 14/02/2017 11:28

Thanks Sez you're right, and Paws - let's do this thing!

I went for my weigh in last night - put on 1.5lbs since last week which was itself up from the week before! But I'm resolved to get back into tracking daily. I'm going to see how many blue dots (on the app) I can get for the rest of the month.

I've also entered a 10k which is about 6 weeks off so better get training. I can't even run 5 at the moment (not quite sure what got into me there...!)
Need some better lunch plans - yesterday was peanut butter on toast, no marg but I didn't exactly weigh the worthy whole earth three seed stuff (but it's healthy right?!)

Miffytastic · 14/02/2017 11:29

PS Sez your losses are ace- well done! sorry for ignoring them in my gloom

poorpaws · 15/02/2017 15:14

to ask if anyone's interested in a 2017 Weight Watchers thread?
Miffytastic · 15/02/2017 16:51

Well that's one way of motivating yourself! I am in danger of just comfort eating my way out of such statements though! I should probably stick up "little pickers wear bigger knickers" on my cupboards.....

How's everyone getting on? I'm doing OK so far the last couple of days: stuck to my points, zumba yesterday and a run today. :D

sez49 · 15/02/2017 21:17

Thanks Miffy. Signing up for the 10k and getting in training for it should help you. I am impressed! Good luck with that! i have allowed myself the occasional measured portion of peanut butter, but I am so likely to be tempted to just eat it straight from the jar, I have switched to having peanut butter powder to get my nutty fix, or even just occasionally having a small pointed portion of nuts. And well done on getting back in track for the last couple of days. It is so hard when you have been off plan, so keep it up, taking each day at a time.

I lost 1.5lbs this weeks.

I have been taking photos of myself, which I hated doing being so overweight (front, back and both sides) about once a month. The first set was a couple of weeks in, but seeing myself like this has probably helped motivate me. I prefer being behind the camera rather than in front of it. It is nice now being able to compare the first pics with the most recent ones taken at the end of Jan. Still don't like the way I look, as I still have lots to lose, but I am feeling much happier with the difference I can see.

As well as the photos, I have been getting rid of all my clothes that have become too big for me. This is a first for me. In all the years I have been trying to lose weight, I have previously held onto them, just in case I needed them in the future. This time I am not going back!!!

Hope everyone is getting on ok.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 15/02/2017 22:14

I've been eating peanut butter and apple - they do portions in M&S or the Pip and Nut sachets.
Can't weigh tomorrow because of work so going on Saturday instead .

sez49 · 16/02/2017 06:54

KenDoddsDadsDog sounds interesting, I will have to give that a try. Definitely better for me if it is portioned!

poorpaws · 19/02/2017 19:38

5 1/2 pounds off this week although it's not as good as it sounds because I gained 3 3/4 pounds last week. I am now at 7 1/4 pounds off since the new year, so I suppose half a stone isn't so bad. I just wish I could stop Yo yoing.

How is everyone else doing? Miffy are you on track?

This thread is really slow now which is always a bad sign 😟
