So who else is back to the WW routine in January?

I lost weight slowly and steadily on the 'filling and healthy' ww plan last year. Lost 16lbs over 16 weeks and I am back within my gold buffer zone but not quite where I'd like to be yet. Have had a couple of weeks off over christmas but planning to weigh in on Monday at my meeting...which I expecte will be rammed!
I also need to increase the exercise as that waned a bit in December.

Hope to have some company on this board for the new year. What are your aims?

3 lb off for me this week. No idea how, but hey, not complaining. Feeling great, 5lbs off in two weeks after a week of no loss.

How you feeling today Chilly?

dotty2 · 16/03/2015 16:57

Well done, Rainicorn. That's amazing - I'd be v chuffed with that.

I fell off the wagon over the weekend. Or perhaps more of a deliberate jump - I had a boozy day out on Saturday which was a special celebration paid for ages ago as a present by my DSis so I wasn't going to stint, and then couldn't resist Mothering Sunday cake, and chocolate pudding etc. (DH and DD1 successfully made chocolate fondant - the nemesis of Masterchef contestants!) Back on it today, though, and have done pretty well so far. Planning a virtuous courgetti based tea tonight, and have just been for a swim.

Anyone else think the activity propoints are a bit inconsistent? I got the same number of points for my brisk 15 mins each way walk to the pool (which I could keep up for hours) as for my 30 mins swim, putting in a lot of effort and leaving me feeling exhausted. But one burns about 200 calories and one about 400. That can't be right, can it? I know people routinely overcompensate for calories burned exercising, but I'm starting to think 'why should I bother going for a run if I'd get the same points going for a brisk walk' which can't be good for me!

Can I join please. I've done Ww in the past and lost 4 stone after the birth of my second child.Since the birth of my third child I have tried ww,slimming world and numerous other diets. I think because of past disordered eating and silly starvation diets recently I've messed with my metabolism. I have about 2 stone to lose and I'm finally in the zone and determined to do it sensibly this time.

I joined a meeting near work. Last week was my first weigh in and I lost 1/2 a lb. I stick to it religiously so I was disappointed but I'm determined to stick with it. My second weigh in is tomorrow. I would ideally like to lose a stone for the end of May as I have a wedding to attend. Smile

dotty2 · 18/03/2015 12:14

Hi Beautician - 4 stone is amazing. Must have taken a lot of willpower. You've done it before, so you can do it again. I also wonder about whether my metabolism is messed up by so many failed dieting attempts and bingeing relapses, but am hoping that this is something I can stick to for the long haul.

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 18/03/2015 12:47

Dotty Thank you but to be honest it was quite easy. The only exercise I did was a Davina McCall workout dvd 4 times a week.It was the old points system. I think being the other side of thirty had made a difference as well.We will lose this weight Grin

Bymyfingertips · 18/03/2015 19:38

Hi all! I'm thinking about re-joining weightwatchers tomorrow and I think I'm looking for advice on whether I should or not. I successfully list weight several years ago - about 5 stones in total - but I'm about 1.5 stones heavier than I'd like to be. I can't seem to shift it. Partly I think it's because I'm the wrong side of 40, partly because my weight fluctuates wildly so I get discouraged and partly because I've lost all faith in my ability to lose weight at all. I'm uncertain about whether I should join WW or whether it's just hopeless! I'm not even sure what I'm asking but I'm a size 16 and I want to be a 12. I'm a stress eater and sometimes a lot of times I let that take precedence over wanting to lose weight

Bymyfingertips · 18/03/2015 20:34

Lordy just read that back and it's an awful ramble! A reflection of the inside of my head! Basically I've lost all faith that anything is going to work Can you reassure me that it will?

Roseybee10 · 19/03/2015 09:26

Im back on WW after baby no2. Have 6lbs to lose to get back to ore preg weight but been stuck at same weight for 3 weeks and just cannot get it moving ??

dotty2 · 19/03/2015 09:35

Well, bymyfingertips it seems to me that some approaches work better for some people than others. Lots of people swear by 5:2 for example, and it worked to some extent to me, but I am also a stress/emotional eater and I decided it wasn't for me for now as it let me fall into the biscuit tin on the days I wasn't fasting. And I found low carb too restricting as the lure of 'forbidden' foods like cake became too strong (and I also over-indulged on nuts and cheese). So I'm hoping a long stint of WW might re-educate me out of stress eating and retrain my brain to realise that, actually, I can have a piece of cake or a biscuit. Just occasionally, and not the whole tin. So is it for you? Not necessarily. But is it a worth a go? What have you got to lose? Sign up online and it's only £10 for your first month, and I have easily recouped that in wine not drunk and snacks not bought. Good luck.

dotty2 · 19/03/2015 09:38

PS - weighed myself this morning and I am 12'13, which is still way too much but I am feeling pleased at having cracked the 13stone barrier (am 5'8.).

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 19/03/2015 10:56

A lb lost at weigh in this morning. So that's 1 & a half lb in 2 weeks. Won't lie but I'm feeling quite disappointed.Hmm

dotty2 · 19/03/2015 11:37

Still, 1lb is better than nothing and a step in the right direction. It's not always steady, is it - people trot along for ages not losing much then have a big drop. Let's both hope for that!

Bymyfingertips · 19/03/2015 11:45

Dotty I could have written all you've said about 5:2 and low carb I went ahead and joined WW this morning. The Leader was lovely which helps. I'm going to give Simple Start a good go this week and see how I get on. I think you're right about structure and "training" being good for emotional eaters. I have to say also that it's not that the stress or emotion has to be very strong! Just a bit tired or I want to procrastinate a bit about doing something I think will take too much effort or I'm a wee bit bored! We'll see how it goes. Massive well done on breaking the stone barrier! I think that gives you a real mental boost

dotty2 · 19/03/2015 14:14

Bymyfingertips: are you me? Procrastination got me to this weight - really need to get out of the habit of thinking I can eat a biscuit every time there's an unpleasant piece of housework or tricky work task to do (along with wine and crisps every time there's something small to celebrate, like it being nearly the weekend). Anyway - well done for taking the first step, and more power to you.

Can I moan one more time about swimming, and then I'll stop, promise. Did a mile in 48 minutes this lunchtime which is not fast-fast, but fast for me and according to Swimfit burns around 600 calories. How many points did I get? 4! A measly 4! Right - glad I've got that off my chest. I'll shut up now.

ChillySundays · 19/03/2015 17:24

DD has just brought some baklava home. How do I not scoff the whole box?!! Dread to think how many points in one little piece

On my third week and already finding it hard to keep motivated.

Age does make it harder. My DSis is super fit and she is now finding it harder. Could live with that if I was her size! I am about four and half stone heavier than her

BeauticianNotMagician81 · 19/03/2015 19:27

Are you all doing points or f & h I didn't know whether to try that to give me a boost

Roseybee10 · 19/03/2015 20:19

1/2 lb off this week. At least it's finally moving! Just slooowly.

I do find weight watchers has retrained me into understanding that a treat is fine as long as its a small one and not all the time. Had a piece of cake and a small glass of wine today but still within my points for the day.

hevs10593 · 19/03/2015 21:17

Epically just blew points today! 39pp!! I went to the gym to try and redeem myself but I feel so bloated!

ChillySundays · 20/03/2015 17:19

Points here

May have a look at f & h but haven't read up on it to be able to make a decision

hedgehogsdontbite · 22/03/2015 08:34

Lost 0.7 kg last week and 0.4 kg this week. It feels so slow but I keep reminding myself how long I've been overweight and that I'm consistently chipping it away now.

I've bought some tiny weights now to try and fight off being left with bingo wings and will soon need some new clothes. I think I've gone down 1 or possibly 2 sizes but I'm putting off new clothes for as long as I can because I'll only have to replace them again when I lose more.

hevs10593 · 22/03/2015 19:34

I have some green and blacks 85% dark choc. The full bar (100g) is 17pp and the bar has 30 squares but I'm unsure how to point it accurately. Any advise?

hedgehogsdontbite · 22/03/2015 21:40

I just go 2pp per square because trying to be more accurate makes my brain bleed.

Does anyone know the points value of a hot cross bun?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 22/03/2015 21:43

If bar is 17 for 30 squares? 17/30 gives you the points per square. Multiply by number eaten and round.Smile

hevs10593 · 22/03/2015 22:12

But 17\30 makes one square 0.56pp does that make 2 squares 1pp or 2pp cause it's slightly more that 1? There isnt a half pp or is there?

I'm not going to say 2pp for one square if I can get 2 squares for 1pp!?

hedgehogsdontbite · 22/03/2015 22:21

Bloody hell my maths is awful today. I did the division the wrong way round sorry Blush

Based on proper maths, I'd say 2 squares for 1pp.
