So who else is back to the WW routine in January?

I lost weight slowly and steadily on the 'filling and healthy' ww plan last year. Lost 16lbs over 16 weeks and I am back within my gold buffer zone but not quite where I'd like to be yet. Have had a couple of weeks off over christmas but planning to weigh in on Monday at my meeting...which I expecte will be rammed!
I also need to increase the exercise as that waned a bit in December.

Hope to have some company on this board for the new year. What are your aims?

Weighed myself this morning as it's a week since I re-started (even though not official weigh day) and was gobsmacked to have lost 7lbs. Clearly it's mostly water but massive incentive boost, didn't even lose that much in my first ever WW week donkey's years ago when I was 5 stone overweight (have a bit under 2 to lose now).

I have been really rigorous about the PP and - major difference from every time I've done WW before - am halfway through a couch to 5k running programme so am getting proper exercise 3 x a week. Am bracing myself for the inevitable plateau sooner than I thought, but it leaves me with less than a stone to lose before my holiday in May (self-imposed target).

Miffytastic · 10/03/2015 15:18

sorry to hear that Dotty. Hope DD1 is OK. Stick with it as weight loss isn't always straightforward /linear. Also are you eating enough? could you fill up with fruit and veg if you're starving?

Well done Zinnia!

I stayed the same. Really want to lose 5 or 6 pounds to stick at goal so must keep away from the flapjack DH has made. Didn't buy any museli this week as I'm a bugger foro snacking on it (dry handfuls from the tub) and it's so pointy

Even ing all!

Well done on the losses! I know I'm not on much and am new to MN but reading this thread is motivating...

I've been awol as it's been the school holidays here. My youngest has just been disgnosed with ADHD and ODD (at last) so it's been a rollercoaster 2 weeks. I've been on the booze as consolation and of course have a binge when I drink HmmBlush. So I've been a little lax with the pp-ing. Yesterday I bought lovely bread which I had to eat all of... Grrr! Had my nieces christening on Saturday too... White chocolate and raspberry cake... Yum! Except the scales say a 2kg gain, though some of that is water as I've just got my period.

Back on it today though. poorpaws I also eat more when my loss isn't great or if I've been really good but still haven't lost. Fingers crossed I can lose something between now and WI on Friday. I'm also a compulsive weigher and weigh every day, which is just stupid! Angry.

Do you all eat breakfast? I really can't face eating anything in the mornings. I don't snack or eat anything until lunch. Just wondering if I should force myself to eat something in the morning? Today was fajitas for lunch (13pp) and dinner salad with cherry tomatoes with olive oil / sun dried tomato dressing (5pp) and 30g cheddar cheese (3pp). Half a punnet of strawberries for dessert. I've come in a 14pp under allowance. Think I need to eat more tomorrow!

Waffling now! Congrats again on all the losses and Flowers to those that need it!

Rainicorn · 10/03/2015 20:04

Ah Kuricait, nobody would blame you for eating all that after your DS's DX. My DS has autism and I can't remember the first few months as my head was all fuzzy, no way would I have coped dieting.

I eat breakfast, but a very low pp one. Usually have two Ryvita with some laughing cow light cheese on, mango and banana as well. 3PP for all of that. I try to do a lunch of 8-10 PP and the rest on tea and snacks.

HedgehogsDontBite · 10/03/2015 22:17

My target for this week is NO UNAUTHORISED WEIGH-INS! Hope that sinks into my brain. I'm terrible and falling into really bad habits again. Was once a day but is becoming every time I go in the bathroom. I know this is eating disorder territory so I've got to get a grip again. Been 2 days now and I'm getting jittery. One day at time ...

poorpaws · 11/03/2015 00:22

I have breakfast kuricait cos I wouldn't want to get out of bed without the chance of eating. I have golden syrup porridge with skimmed milk (4 pps) which helps my sweet tooth and is filling (although I often follow it with a ww rich toffee bar).

For lunch I have home made parsnip soup (0 ppts) and a slice of toast (2ppts) (often followed by a ww rich toffee bar (seeing a pattern here)).

Because I need all my pps in the evening I try to eat very low pptd food all day and by the evening I have plenty left for dinner and snacking.

I'm not sure that this is the right thing to do but evenings are by far my weakest times when I want to eat my body weight in food.

Well done to all the losers.

dotty2 · 11/03/2015 09:33

I eat breakfast, though I think it's fine not to if you're really not hungry. The whole intermittent fasting thing is based on the idea that it's better for your body to go longer between meals - which obviously suits some people and not others. I usually have yogurt or similar, occasionally eggs. I used to low carb and one legacy of it for me is that if I have anything too carby for breakfast I am starving by 10am, whereas yog fills me up. I used to always have full fat (5 pts for 150g) but am experimenting with low fat for fewer points, but not sure it's worth it in the end as it doesn't fill me up as well.

Well done everyone who's losing and sympathies to everyone having a hard time. Hedgehogs - could you put the scales away in a cupboard and remove temptation?

zinnia · 11/03/2015 09:38

kirucait so sorry to hear about your youngest, you must have had a really hard time of it lately.

Think I must be your opposite number - can't get through the day without breakfast! I have home-made granola, 0% Greek yoghurt & soft fruit, which is 5pp, plus a coffee (2pp if it's a skinny latte).

If I'm still hungry will add a small banana. But I can easily get by with little for lunch if I'm busy at work, leaving me room for a snack and decent supper in the evening, which is my danger zone.

I can take or leave porridge but SO many people swear by it for keeping you going through the day. Tbh a nice breakfast gives me something to look forward to amidst the madness of getting everyone ready in the mornings.

I would say it's only a problem though if you find yourself at a weak point, food-wise, in the mid-late mornings before lunch? Which it doesn't sound like you do.

Nocakeformeplease · 11/03/2015 20:50

Hi there. Mind if I join you?

I've needed to lose weight for as long as I can remember but more than that, I desperately need to start eating more healthily. I was planning on doing Slimming World as it forces me to make better choices and cook from scratch but my son is being treated for a relapsed kidney cancer so we spend a lot of time in hospital and I just find it too difficult to stick to. I love the simplicity of WW - I just have to be careful not to use too many points on rubbish! I have absolutely no willpower!!

I have about 2.5 to lose and am on week 4. I lost 3lbs the first and second weeks but stayed the same last week so am trying to point everything carefully this week. I'm following the plan at home (with the help of the value diary app) so it would be nice to have some company to keep me motivated Smile

dotty2 · 12/03/2015 09:26

Hello Nocakeformeplease - I'm so sorry to hear about your son. That must be a very stressful time, so you are positively heroic to even contemplate trying to lose weight at the same time. Maybe doing WW could be a way of avoiding too much comfort eating - but do be kind to yourself. I'm another newbie - about the same to lose as you, and just starting week 3. Also finding it slow after a speedy start, but keep reminding myself it's a marathon, not a sprint. I'm trying to find a way of eating that I could realistically keep up long term, and that finally gets me out of my comfort/stress eating mindset. I have to recognise, though, that that's taken nearly 30 years to build up, so isn't going to be conquered in 30 days or a two week bootcamp, or whatever.

Rainicorn · 12/03/2015 19:36

Welcome NoCake. Sorry to hear about your son Flowers

I am very pleased with myself today. Bought two tunic/dress type things and they are two sizes smaller than I'd have bought in Dcember. They are very loose fit, so would have probably boutpght ones I've smaller anyway, but two sizes makes me feel great.

Fudgeface123 · 13/03/2015 09:05

Sorry about your son nocake

3 lbs off for me last night, that's 9 lbs in 3 weeks - the most I've lost in a short space for a long time. Feeling very motivated right now Smile

nikki1978 · 13/03/2015 11:52

Hi, can I join in too? :)

I joined WW last Saturday. I need to lose between 4 and 5 stone but my first goal is to lose about 1-1.5 stone by my holiday in 10 weeks time. First weigh in tomorrow but I only started on Monday as I had such a full weekend with social occasions I knew it would be best to start when I was more organised. So fingers crossed I will have lost something in the first 5 days! I have been exercising but TOTM is this weekend which won't help!

I'm trying to get as much veg in my diet as possible as I don't really like fruit and I need to bulk my meals up a bit! Any ideas?

zinnia · 13/03/2015 11:57

Oh NoCake that must be so so hard for your whole family. This is going to sound ridiculously superficial but in the past I've found taking control of something within my own life when something else is happening over which you have no control at all can be a help, mentally. I gave up smoking in the weeks running up to my wedding as my dad was dying (this was years ago, not saying to garner any sympathy, but as an eg!) and it was almost something to cling onto amongst the madness, that I hadn't said to myself "oh I can't possibly give up now, it's far too difficult at the moment" IYSWIM.

So in a nutshell, good on you for thinking about WW at a time like this. Do hope your son is OK.

Status report on my weigh day: have stayed the same since Tues (ie 7lbs lost since re-starting 10 days ago) so am v chuffed.

ethelb · 13/03/2015 12:02

Sorry to hear about your son nocake. That sounds very hard.

I lost 2lb this week so I am 1lb off goal. They said I would need to speak to the group when I reach goal. Has anyone done this, what do you say?

zinnia · 13/03/2015 12:05

Welcome Nikki, I lost 5 stone on my first ever WW stint and have never gone back there, it can be done! Organisation is definitely the key.

As for veg: zero pp soups are great for filling you up, make a batch and freeze some for when you need something for lunch. Veggie curries are good too. Can you pre-prepare some snacks like carrot batons/ cucumber to carry around with you? Oven bake sweet potato "chips" instead of normal chips (not 0 pp but really tasty), or try the old mum's favourite of grating courgette into pasta sauce, etc.

These days I also eat spaghetti dishhes with 50% pasta/ 50% "courgettini" (ie julienned courgettes, no spiralizers in my house just a hand-held julienne peeler).

The thing I really like about WW is that it incentivises you to eat more veg & fruit and generally eat more healthily.

ChillySundays · 13/03/2015 13:52

Feeling a bit deflated. Put on 0.5 lbs (did lose 3lbs last week) and have used hardly any of my weekly points. Worrying about going out on Sunday now.

NoCake - sorry to hear about your son and well done for still signing up.

nikki1978 · 14/03/2015 17:18

I lost 4lbs for my first week :) Pretty good considering I only did 5 days as I started on Monday plus my period started this morning so I am seriously bloated. Yay :)

hevs10593 · 15/03/2015 20:05

Can someone confirm if this is zero pp? I'm having 1/2 of it for dinner tomorrow but these veg packs always confuse me whether I count them or not?

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 15/03/2015 20:11

As long as it is just sliced zero point veg and not sauce should be fine.

What you have to watch is things like the partially cooked Mediterranean frozen veg- cos they have been cooked in oil.

hevs10593 · 15/03/2015 20:39

Oh I never gave it a thought. I ate loads of Mediterranean frozen veg the other day thinking I was filling up on the right thing! Normally I make my own but when your rushing it's easier to just bang it in the oven straight from freezer!

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 15/03/2015 20:49

I can't remember which ones I checked. The ones I saw had definitely been cooked in olive oil. They were still pretty low point though - about two for a massive portion. Still a good choice. Just not free Smile

hevs10593 · 15/03/2015 20:55

Thanks for that better to know now tho! I got my med veg from sainsburys and I can't see it in the shopping book, I can't see any frozen veg unless I'm being stupid

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 15/03/2015 21:09

Is it these ones. They look fine. There is no oil on the ingredients list and they say they've been chargrilled.

The Tesco version here has both olive oil and sunflower oil on the ingredients list.

Its a minefield isn't it Confused

hevs10593 · 15/03/2015 21:26

Yes! It is those! Phew! It's so hard to be carful! Then I have my OH adding this and that without telling me and weighing out too much pasta ect..

Thanks for that though! Just goes to show your better off making stuff from scratch yourself so you know what's added!
