So who else is back to the WW routine in January?

I lost weight slowly and steadily on the 'filling and healthy' ww plan last year. Lost 16lbs over 16 weeks and I am back within my gold buffer zone but not quite where I'd like to be yet. Have had a couple of weeks off over christmas but planning to weigh in on Monday at my meeting...which I expecte will be rammed!
I also need to increase the exercise as that waned a bit in December.

Hope to have some company on this board for the new year. What are your aims?

I have PCOS too - and weigh every other week , recommended by the nurse at out surgery, she said it is easier to show a loss over 2 weeks, so less disheartening and keeps you motivated..

Rainicorn · 04/03/2015 18:17

That might be a great idea. It's so frustrating not having a loss.

hevs10593 · 05/03/2015 07:17

Does anyone else go overboard on a meal on weigh in day or with general treats. I've given up the chocolate digestives but now moved onto shortbread biscuits(which are higher in pp). It's like I saw a good result on the scale and thought sack it I'll have a biscuit. Anyone else occasionally slip into this frame of mind?

SomewhereIBelong · 05/03/2015 07:27

I have an evening meal that I don't bother to point on WI day - so we might have a KFC, Chinese, or I will cook a pie - WITH PASTRY! but not a "treat" since (I don't have a sweet tooth) I'd feel I had wasted my points if you see what I mean?

hevs10593 · 05/03/2015 07:47

I feel like I've wasted my points. I might trying weighing in every other week that way I don't know the number so I can't be tempted to 'treat' myself.

Rainicorn · 05/03/2015 13:04

One blow out day every few weeks is ok Hevs. Today is yours.

I weigh myself on a Monday morning. I am always tempted to have a blow out breakfast straight after, regardless of the loss. Thank goodness DH works on a Monday otherwise we would be over to the Toby for an all you can eat breakfast.

Speaking of DHs, does everyone else's dh/partner help out and support, or do they unconsciously sabotage you. DH is a bit of both. He went to Greggs for lunch yesterday, I said get me x sandwich. He did, but he also got me a steak and Stilton roll, which I obviously ate as they are my favourite. 10 pp in the one, so had o have salad for tea. He seems to forget I'm trying to lose weight. Alright for him with his high metabolism Envy

hevs10593 · 05/03/2015 18:45

That's really interesting Rain. My other half is 'dieting' and I put it like that cause he's not made life changes he's half hearted and he's the reason I go off track!! He works in a shop and always buys things on offer or because it was reduced thinking he's being nice. I was away last week and I ate really well then he comes back and boom I need biscuits!

Fudgeface123 · 06/03/2015 09:29

Well I missed my 2nd WI last night as I stuck in horrendous traffic. I know I'm at least 2 lbs down from last week though so I think I'll just wait until my official meeting next week and WI then rather than find another meeting. Hopefully I'll be reporting a massive loss next week Grin

dotty2 · 06/03/2015 10:18

Hello Miffytastic - I thought I recognised your name from somewhere, had forgotten it was the PhD thread! Good luck with the last push. I found finishing a bit weirdly anticlimactic as there was no one moment when it was 'done' IYSWIM - full draft, changes after comments from supervisor, submission, viva, minor corrections, getting it bound and taken to the library - all milestones in their own way, but not one big sigh of relief like finishing finals. It's nearly a year since my viva now and I can't believe I haven't managed to lose the PhD weight. Still, doing something about it now.

I've been away a lot with work this week so haven't managed much exercise and have been stuck with sandwich conference lunches and dinner from train stations. Shocked at how many points there are in even half a bog standard sandwich with mayo, but delighted at how few in the very delicious Leon Quinoa and Chicken salad (8, and definitely tasty enough to feel like proper dinner).

ethelb · 06/03/2015 13:34

I lost 1.5lb this week and have lost 0.5% body fat in the past two weeks which is good.

Just 4 lb off goal at the moment so nearly there!

dotty2 · 06/03/2015 14:00

That's great ethel - well done. I should probably know this, but how do you measure body fat %?

ethelb · 06/03/2015 21:12

I used the scales in boots. They measure body fat. They also weight me 1 lb under the ww scales at meeting. I would dismiss the boots scales as inaccurate but I also weighed 1lb less at Dr checkup yesterday so maybe they are fine!

I am getting frustrated with the WW app. Bought some WW choc digestives (yummy) as missing biscuits. 1PP each on the packet but WW app points 2 as 3 PP. Ridiculous, as if I was posting by writing down they'd be 2pp.

hevs10593 · 07/03/2015 16:50

I find things don't always add up and check with the calculator. I found some cup a soups for 1pp in the book which I bought and when I pointed them they were 2pp each which isn't bad but a bit annoying. I also like the weight watchers tuna and may but the tin says 2pp and the book says 3pp. It's annoying ..

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 07/03/2015 17:04

I think the issue with the app is often rounding.

Say a biscuit is 1.3 pp if you actually calculated it all yourself . A single biscuit will round down to 1 pp. So if you do it yourself by hand, you'll put two biscuits down as 2pp. But the app is smart, it knows that 2 biscuits is actually 2.6 pp, so it rounds up to 3.

It's annoying, but often it's more inaccuracy in the old system than an actual flaw in the digital version. You get the same thing online.

Rainicorn · 07/03/2015 18:10

So, given that I use the app, should I adjust so it shows 2pp, or go with the 3? 3 seems a bit wasteful when the packet says 2

PenguinsandtheTantrumofDoom · 07/03/2015 18:17

Depends if your aim is maximum weight loss or maximum treat satisfaction Grin

Rainicorn · 07/03/2015 19:26

My head says 2, my arse says 3

Miffytastic · 08/03/2015 12:03

Dotty you are inspiring! I am sat here trying to create a gant chart. I can imagine it might be a bit 'oh' after it's all done, particularly as there's no communal element to phd completion like with other exams. Urgh, so much to do (and I've just eaten 6ppt of brazil nuts and some flapjack so I on't appear to be doing v well on the Phd+ww combination today)
I know what you mean about sandwiches, it's really hard. Sometimes grabbing M&S salads can work out low points but at conferences or working lunches it's very difficult to abide by filling & healthy rules that's for sure.

WI day for me tomorrow. If I just STS or lose a teeny bit I'll be happy.

Well after weeks of feeding a dreadful cold I worked hard at weight loss this week.

I weighed in today and lost 1 and a quarters lbs and feel very disappointed. I know a loss is a loss etc etc but I worked so hard. After a disappointing loss I usually cave in and eat loads of sweet foods but tonight I'm taking a deep breath and staying on track hoping for a good loss next week. I really am the tortoise of this group but I'm hoping to win the race.

Does anyone else feel really down and driven to eat when they lose less than they expect?

hevs10593 · 08/03/2015 22:17

I think its psychological paws, many people don't see the number they hoped and think stuff it I might as well have that cake or whatever.

Stay positive! The scales have moved in the right direction, a loss is a loss and that's great! Just keep at it! The slower it comes off the more likey it is to stay off. That's the problem with all these fad diets these days everyone wants quick results but it's not sustainable long term. Its so easy to put weight on but so hard to lose! Just think it'll be more worthwhile getting to goal than it is to go off track.

Rainicorn · 09/03/2015 08:06

Poorpaws, WTG on the loss. When I don't have a great loss I always think of the amount in total I've lost. Keep it up.

I lost 2lb this week :) Happy with that.

HedgehogsDontBite · 09/03/2015 09:00

I feel down if I don't lose a good amount but thankfully it doesn't cause me to fall off the wagon. I don't think I'm an emotional eater. I think I'm a chaotic eater. So long as I stick to a strict timetable of meals or snacks I can keep control. When the schedule falls apart the eating falls apart and I have no control over it.

On a happy note, I lost 1.3 kg yesterday.

Hmm, not feeling so inspiring today as have put on 1lb this week in spite of being really hungry all the effing time and using only 3 weekly points. Also had to take DD1 to A&E this morning (false alarm) - all in all not a great start to the week. I am an emotional eater, and that definitely makes me want to fall into the biscuit tin but had two WW yogurts instead, which is better than it could have been. Onwards.
