WW 2014 support/b*tch thread

beachavendrea · 07/01/2014 05:47

Is there one of these already? I started WW online the day after Boxing Day which was the best or the worst idea I've ever had. I can't decide.
I have a lot of weight to loose and am finding it hard to get motivated, i have been sticking to my points, so thought I would start a support thread!

Also on the whole group WI thing I am using this board as my weekly weigh in. Because it's the same people I still feel a bit accountable if you see what I mean. Basically you lot are my leaders! :o

HalleLouja · 22/01/2014 21:42

Timetogo I only have the first one. Second one should be coming soon. I think some of it is compatible with simple start. Am hoping I can use some of the things I have liked this week.

trainersandcake · 22/01/2014 21:42

Kosher I found this week's talk on snacking quite annoying, too.

My Mum (in her 60s) is still a size 10 and she never, ever eats between meals. I do love the group leader but he never at any point suggested distraction techniques or drinking herbal teas, etc in the evening - instead it was all about eating WW snacks in the evening.

I'm really, really trying to eat bigger portions at meals and just hang on until the next mealtime (my Mum's suggestions) but that idea was never mentioned!

My willpower gets shaky at the best of times (on my way home tonight I bought a big bag of crisps and was practically mentally wrestling them out of my hands) but I know I need to stop completely really, rather than eating WW snacks as an alternative...

KosherBacon · 22/01/2014 21:51

In fairness she did mention boredom and somebody talked about how they've started knitting again to distract them and make them do something with their hands, however she moved on to all the WW products. Normally she doesn't flog it do hard but last week after the filling and healthy book flogging, it got on my goat. I do know that this is their busy time of year, with all the New Years resolution people who will drop out quickly, but still, it is annoying.

Oh and my weight isn't from snacking. It's eating big portions with too much cheese/ oil/ everything in it. I probably used to eat a chocolate bar once a month and a bag of crisps about once a fortnight. Hardly a one way ticket to obesity.

Talking of obesity my bmi has gone from 31.4 to 28.3, which has made me #chuffed.

trainersandcake · 22/01/2014 22:32

Woo well done on the BMI! That is a huge drop!

I'm not a huge snacker really either, or it's not the main reason i'm overweight, i'm just woeful at knowing when full (and a bit of a greedy guts to boot!). Cheese, butter and French bread are my fatty, carby delicious nemeses.

KosherBacon · 23/01/2014 08:29

Trainers- gosh I love butter and a good cheeseboard. No plastic cheese for me! I still had it all over Christmas just in much smaller quantities (and still lost 1lb). It's the slugs of oil here, knobs of butter etc. it doesn't help that I follow Pioneer Woman's blog and watch Ina Garten. Those gals know how to supersize a portion!

redvelvetcupcake · 23/01/2014 12:16

Wow kosher you are really doing well!! Well done..
My BMI is 30.3 so I am desperate to get it down..
Made a chilli con carne for tonight and will have brown rice with it. Brisket tomorrow and then will try and have fish over the weekend to balance it out.
I am going to give the leader another go on Monday as I have a friend who goes to that group and if I still think she's rubbish I will try another.
I found there was hard sell even on my first week.. so many members were eating ww crisps and chic bars after weigh in... seemed bizarre

KosherBacon · 23/01/2014 13:10

Before Christmas we hardly had any sell of the products. Maybe they knew the regulars weren't interested in it. Mind you there is a guy whose lost 55lb and lives on the snacks.

I don't want your bloody caramel latte sachets!

Although I did have a bag of crisps but didn't have a chance to eat anything before I went and I was peckish. First time in 12 weeks though.

trainersandcake · 23/01/2014 13:59

RedVelvet it is a little bit comedy when people weigh in and then sit troughing their way through WW choc bars.

Kosher I'm so with you on the merits of a good cheeseboard! We still have SO much cheese in the fridge from Christmas, I've made DH put it on the top shelf so I don't see it!

What are the WW crisps like? I would possibly give those a whirl but for choc I think I would rather just have a proper bar and count the points. When I was at Slimming World I once won Slimmer of the Week (not a great achievement, it was three pounds and I was more dehydrated than anything else!) I got a box of the SW bars (as you get a bag of veg and fruit and SW products from other members as a prize) and they were horrible.

moonbells · 23/01/2014 14:14

Hello all
I did the old plan back in 1999 (!) when it had just gone over to the points system and lost 53lb in 6 months. I have books, calculators and the like. It took 10 years (and one child) to get back to my old weight Blush and then some more and now I'm fed up and back on the wagon.

I'm going to stick to the old system as the new one sounds far too complicated and I've got the gear and am too tight to buy new

Anyone else doing the old version?

I have 30kg to lose. Ouch. Though I prefer to say to begin with that I've got to lose 9lb to get back to merely overweight! Small steps!

trainersandcake · 23/01/2014 14:39

Welcome Moonbells! I'm on propoints and not finding it too difficult but staying with what you know is a good idea!

Make sure you have a reward for when you lose the first 9lb!

moonbells · 23/01/2014 14:55

I have divided up the weight loss into -10%, -15% etc and BMI 30, 25, when I can fit back in my wedding dress (!) etc.

I have decided that each week I shall put a £ in a box for each lb lost.

At some point I shall go shopping! Grin

TimeToPassGo · 23/01/2014 16:50

Welcome moonbells :) I'm doing an old version too but not as old as that one - Discovery Plan so from about 2009.

All the talk about snacks has reminded me why I disliked the meetings. I used to have to go after work and ended up starving myself before weigh in, then had to go home and make tea. Now I just wake up on Wed mornings and weigh myself after I've been to the loo and before I eat or drink. Simples! You lot keep me honest Wink

fluffydressinggown · 23/01/2014 17:13

I am having a healthy and filling day and it has gone well so far, we are going swimming this evening because it feels like all we do is watch TV in the evening and I want to be a bit more active. I don't think I have lost anything this week, very frustrating. I am on medication that piles the weight on you and makes you hungry for carbs so I know losing every week will be a challenge.

So far my WW leader has not even mentioned the food for sale in the meetings, but the meetings feel a bit like a cattle market. There are loads of people there and by the time everyone is weighed it only gives her about 10 minutes to shout talk to us. The leader seems lovely though so I will stick to this group.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 23/01/2014 19:11

Wel I had my first weigh in and lost 2lbs woohoo! I had been mostly well behaved doing the simple start but had a couple of blips but I reckon that as I'm breastfeeding, a little sugar was deserved. Was a bit of a gorb today though, I've a stinking cold so just been pushing silly food in but it's all gone now so back on track tomorrow.

My meeting was filled with old women that really liked the sound of their own voices. I brought the average age down by about 30 years. Not the most enjoyable morning but ah well. The leader did bang on about snacks but did comment that ww crisps are a bit rubbish as they're only 12g per bag so you'd probably end up having 2 bags so may as well have one nice bag for the same ish points! She did show lots of ww products but also lots of non ww ones which was good.

I'm going to treat myself to a massage or something when I get my first stone off. Since having my baby I haven't had any 'me' time so I think that'll be something to work towards.

JanieLovesLuckySocks · 23/01/2014 22:54

Ok so dh has suggested takeaway tomorrow night. Is chicken chow mein still 9pp? I can't really remember what other low point options there are and the new pp guide is rubbish, only mentions about 3 takeaway pp options. Would anyone be so kind as to make any low pp suggestions? Many thanks x

redvelvetcupcake · 24/01/2014 06:25

uh oh doing rubbish and it's my first week... ended up eating leftovers from a work lunch for dinner, humous, pitta, smoked salmon, cows cous salad etc... all not allowed on simple start....
Missed gym too so all in all a rubbish day and entertaining tonight.... though cooking an allowed meal.... as long as I keep away from the wine and kettle crisps etc...
why does real life always pop up??
sometimes think I'd be ok at this if I could just go away for a month and just think of me.......

redvelvetcupcake · 24/01/2014 06:26

not cows cous !!! just cows cous...

redvelvetcupcake · 24/01/2014 06:26

Its done it again cous cous

HalleLouja · 24/01/2014 08:12

My present to myself when I have lost a stone. which is what I want to lose is a nice dress I have spotted.

Am on simple start but forgot my homemade food for work yesterday so needed to improvise and did ok. The soup may have been a bit fatty. But I didn't add the rice and ate half the little bit of bread and didn't snack. Also exercised and will run tonight too. I am a saddo who doesn't mind running on a Friday night. Plus if I don't continue I will lose willpower with it and I have enjoyed it the last month.

In other news a lovely skirt I had which was always tight now fits better. Am hoping WW and exercise does the trick.

moonbells · 24/01/2014 10:03

redvelvet snap! I thought I'd blown it last night: ate loads of little crackers with philly while waiting for a batch of rice to cook because I was so hungry. Pointed it this morning and it turned out not nearly as bad as I'd thought, and within the day's allowance.

Sunday's my weigh-in so we shall see...

KosherBacon · 24/01/2014 12:20

Well I went for coffee and cake yesterday AND had three ferrero rocher at 2pp each and a glass of wine. So cross with myself for the chocolate but a friend opened the box so once is started....

TimeToPassGo · 24/01/2014 12:51

Well done on weight loss Janie :)

The thing with WW is that you need to make it work for your lifestyle. This is where I find a 5:2 mentality helpful as it stops me throwing the towel in and bingeing when I've had a 'bad' day. I deliberately have 2-3 'bad' days a week but then I have a few lower point days too. Sometimes I need to move them around when I've been caught out and about.

Not having our Chinese tonight as we are having it tomorrow instead. Going to make a stir fry as a home grown version :)

fluffydressinggown · 24/01/2014 12:54

Well done on your weight loss Janie

I had my meeting today, I have lost another 2 pounds so that is 4 pounds in total :) The leader talked about snacking but she didn't mention any WW products, she recommended other brands actually!

TimeToPassGo · 24/01/2014 13:01

Well done Fluffy :o We are losing some serious lard on this thread!
