GT - ds went to the park on his own for the first time last summer when he was 8. He would have been allowed to go this summer - but the friend that he would have gone with moved down to Luton :(

He doesn't really have any friends locally now which means that we need to think of "other" ways of encouraging his independence - like cycling to school, cycling up and down the street on his own doing "speed trials" Grin (it's a wide, traffic-calmed street), going to Cubs on his own (I pick him up) and so on. We're about to cancel the papers being delivered and the £1.60 we save on delivery charges can go to him as pocket money for going and getting them himself.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/10/2010 17:15

Independence all builds gradually doesn't it. This time last year DS walked to school with friends (age10) and that was a big deal. Suddenly he starts senior school and he goes off on the train (gulp)

Well done hectate on a good loss. I'd love to see your soup recipe if you have time to post. Blondes posted one that was celery, onion, carrot, tinned toms, chick stock. It was yum with a splash of that sauce I can't spell. Wocescestershire or summat!

How's the running in all this rain GT? Damp probably!

It's rained on DD in Belgium today so their trench experience at Ypres had even more authenticity. She said the war graves made her cry.

It's 5.10 and I want to put my pajamas on!

GettinTrimmer · 01/10/2010 18:15

We'll all be on the soup this week Hecate! Only trouble with me is the bread with it, but I don't have butter so at least that's something.

Piste - didn't go running today, I have to get a new pair of trainers as was worried about slipping over on the wet pavements. My trainers are a bit worn down. Last time I did the Great South Run I only got up to six miles in practice, I think I am about that level now, so should be alright on the day Smile

I meant to ask, how is your dd's friend now?

I would have cried at the war graves too.

Pretty - have you noticed a difference toning wise since doing the shred?

bebejones · 01/10/2010 18:26

I'm home...a day earlier than planned! V Long story!!

Welcome to Hecate! :)

Congrats to Dis! :) (Can't remember new name Blush)

Dread to think how much I have put on this week! Not going to weigh til next Friday though & got a pretty 'bad' weekend ahead! Oh well! :o

Too tired to cook tonight so having pizza Blush & curly fries Blush Blush & ice cream Blush Blush Blush

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2010 20:25

Well done pretty - always worth doing and weighing after exercise

well done Hecate - for the 13 stone and also the 2.5lb loss

piste - tell yr dd the graves make me cry as well

bebe welcome back

I've just spent 4.5hrs on m25 Shock Angry doing normally an hours journey

queues the whole way and now have a square bum :(

need junk!!!!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 01/10/2010 21:29

Shall call you BlondesSquareBum from here on. Smile It only took 4.5 hrs for DD to go from SW London to Ypres today! Timing was probably better, leaving at 5 and they will be back tonight about 11.

Yes she was rather overwhelmed by the graves, she realised they were all just boys like her brother.

GT - thank you for asking about DDs mate. She found the very start of this year hard and so her anorexia got worse. But in the last couple of weeks she seems alot happier, she is being eased back into sports/ games which is good and she seems to be much more settled. She has had a fair few appointments with specialists recently, hope that is just routine. Had a long talk with her mum who is now open about it. She said that without our DDs friendship and support, her DD would not have been able to cope with or stay in full-time school. [proud] she has gone on the trip today which would have been impossible a year ago. She still eats away from the others but they all accept that but on a trip at the end of the summer she ate lunch in a large group! Like us her progress will be measured in small steps. But I tell you what, anorexia is a bastard of an illness. Sad

Hope it dries up for your training.

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/10/2010 22:14

so took less time to go from one country to another compared to one county to another Grin

GettinTrimmer · 02/10/2010 09:12

Hope dd's friend continues to take those small steps Piste - don't blame you for being so proud of your dd Smile very supportive of her friend.

Are they home alright now?

Shock that M25 is awful sometimes Blondes. I though it was bad getting home from Essex once when it took 5 hours.

Nice and dry today, dd is going to a taster session of Rainbows 10 - 11, it's in a disused shop in town (they can't offer her a place just yet) so I am hoping to get a chance for a cappuccino and read my book while she's there.

Have to go on a long run. Trouble is, it encourages me to think I can get away with too much snacking with the masses of calories burnt up, but it doesn't work out like that - it just means I don't put any more weight on!

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2010 09:24

Enjoy your run trimmer

I'm just off to the gym to kick arse!!!

HecateQueenOfWitches · 02/10/2010 10:05

that poor girl. It's so sad. And just goes to show that slim doesn't automatically = happy. Sometimes I think when you're fat you forget that and start to think that if you could only be slim, your life would somehow be perfect.

Or maybe they're just my thoughts!

Soup - carrot and ginger
350g carrots
15g dried pasta (soup pasta)
1 onion
a stock cube
teaspoon of ground ginger
salt & pepper

chop up the onion and put it in a pan with the ginger and a bit of the stock.
when the onion is soft, add the sliced carrots
bung in the rest of the stock, bring to to the boil and then simmer for about 20 minutes
mash / liquidise
add the pasta and season with salt and pepper
simmer until pasta is soft
enjoy!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 02/10/2010 11:29

Thanks for the recipe hectate. I'll try that this week.

I agree with you on your thinking. DDs friend has been so miserable but definitely seems happier now. DD can see how miserable the anorexia has made her friend too and how restrictive it has been. Since starting this weight loss I have never mentioned it to my DD and she has never noticed! Fortunately our DD is so into her sport I just want it to stay that way!

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2010 14:09

Thanks for receipe hectate

I'm assuming the soup works out just under a point ( for the pasta)

carrot and Ginger. Hmmmmmm not sure if wld like

B oat so simple and skim 3
l cod in bcrumb and carrots/brocolli and sc lite 4.5
t chicken/noodles and veg ready made meal Blush 5

and then out for drinks for friends birthday - will try and stay semi sober

out tomorrow and don't want a hangover

HecateQueenOfWitches · 02/10/2010 15:04

says it's zero points.

per portion.

I suppose it's because the amount of pasta is tiny.

Want me to have a look for other zero points soup?

Blondeshavemorefun · 02/10/2010 15:42

guess the pasta is minute Grin

if you could that would be great - thanks

i love carrot&coriander one
veg soup
bns and onion soup

but always good to have new recipes :)

prettybird · 02/10/2010 15:48

The soup sounds lovely :)

My dad asked me today if I'd lost weight as I was looking slimmer! :):)

Blondeshavemorefun · 03/10/2010 09:46

fab prettybird :)

i wasnt very good last night, wine/cider/archers and a chicken kebab Blush

GettinTrimmer · 03/10/2010 15:55

Afternoon all Smile

I was on the verge of buying a coffee cake from the co-op with walnuts on the top - reduced to £1.59, but I resisted - make some room for me on naughty step though Blondes, I've had the munchies for past couple of days.

I ran/plodded/jogged for 1 hour 12 minutes yesterday so I think I can also get away with piece of bluberry and lemon cake I had at the garden centre.

blondes Are you suffering? Envy though at a boozy night out! I did have a gin and orange in front of the telly.

pretty It was great when people noticed I'd lost weight, you must be toning too with all that shredding.

hecate thanks for soup recipe. I need to make a big batch of a very low calorie soup and have a couple of bowls before meals.

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 03/10/2010 18:04

no im not suffering at all - unlike my friend who was sick twice and has the hangover from hell

bebejones · 03/10/2010 18:05

Waves to all!

I'm struggling to get my head back in the game now I'm home! Tried really hard today...
OJ & Special K
1/2 toasted teacake (with spread)
Chicken Noodle soup & Ryvita (x2)
A sneaky chocolate (one of those Quality Street large green triangles Blush)
Pasta Pesto for dinner

Going to have either a lf yoghurt or sf jelly when DD is in bed.

Feeling a bit unispired Confused

Hecate - soup recipe sounds yummy, will have to give it a try, the last carrot soup I made was awful! :(

Blondes - I could kill for a chicken kebab....yummy, very Envy, but of course you are a very bad Blondes! :o

prettybird · 03/10/2010 18:20

Made a simple carrot soup last week (just carrots from the garden and home made chicken sotck, blitzed witha some nutmeg added); might try it with some ginger added a la Hecate's recipe this week :) (Still got some carrots to pull)

BTW - I do like the way that people on here shorten my name to "Pretty": on the Scottish and other threads, it's usually shortened to PB. It makes me feel all warm and fuzzy :):)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 04/10/2010 08:07

Morning Flange! Good weekend everyone?

Am making Hectates carrot and Ginger soup today and am looking forward to it. It's so miserable weather wise I think it will be the very thing.

Bebe - you are in a funny ( but v happy!) place now on the diet front. You have achieved your goal now so are moving into the next phase I suppose. Do you feel a bit of an anti climax? That might sound weird but we've been at this so long, I think it must be odd to actually get to your goal iyswim??!! I am probably just rambling. I currently feel like I shall never achieve my goal so I shall never know first hand!! This last half a stone is reluctant to shift. Sad

See you all later, waves to Slinky mates including those on the naughty step.

bebejones · 04/10/2010 08:12

Piste - It does feel very odd. I was bad (in a diet sense) on holiday. But it wasn't like I was stuffing McDonalds down all week. Was sensible 'normal' meals, with some puddings. I have put weight on, I can feel it. I just feel a bit :( that I will never not be able to watch what I eat. Maintaining is going to be really tough. I agree that the last half stone was so slow. I think I will always have to eat ryvita & soup! Definitely an anti-climax! You WILL reach your goal!

prettybird · 04/10/2010 08:38

Bebe - I seem to remember my dad saying that, medically speaking, if you can maintain at a particular weight for two years then your body (and mind) will accustom itself to that level as the norm and it will therefore become easier.

I know that's a long time but it's not forever Grin

bebejones · 04/10/2010 09:31

Problem is I'm hoping to have another baby in that time, which will probably set me back a bit! Confused Oh well, maybe if I'm about a stone less than I want to be before I get PG then I'll be about the right weight afterwards! Wink :o

GettinTrimmer · 04/10/2010 09:51

That's really interesting Pretty, I am thinking 11 stone could be a good weight for me, I would really like to be about 10 stone 4, but I don't think I can maintain it.

Glad you had a good holiday Bebe.

We need a new thread over the next couple of days don't forget slinkies.

I have just made myself a big batch of carrot and ginger soup as per Hecate's recipe but without the small pasta bits. It looks alright!
