Don't worry about it Riven, it doesn't have to be every day. Just do it when you can.

BollocksToThis · 12/11/2010 14:52

Hello folks. I'm considering this (lack of time makes it attractive!) but I'm 7 weeks postnatal, haven't had my check up yet but I know I had separated rectus muscles in pregnancy. Will that be a problem?

I'm a fat bird so I need something to make me work hard!

WookieetheChew · 12/11/2010 15:03

I wouldn't recommend it at 7 weeks postpartum to be honest. It's very high impact. Also there are a lot of ab exercises, and I suspect most (if not all) would not be ideal for separated abdominal muscles.

BollocksToThis · 12/11/2010 15:16

You mean I can't look like this in a month? Shock

Hmm. I'll see what the doc says next week then reappraise the situation. Might have to be Aquacise with the grannies for a wee while yet then :)

WookieetheChew · 12/11/2010 16:05

Well, I'm going by how I was 7w after DD was born, and The Shred would have been far too much for my boobs (BFing) and pelvic floor muscles. Also, I think at 7w I was just about able to sit down without discomfort Blush but I'd had an episiotomy. So it wold probably depend on how your birth was and how fit/healthy you are now. Your GP will be better able to judge.

notyummy · 12/11/2010 17:45

Would second the post partum advice- although if you had an 'easy' (are there any...?) delivery then you could try it, doing the easy version of all the exercises. Good sports bra and trainers essential!

GruesomeShellChillingTortoise · 12/11/2010 17:48

It has been ages since i last shreaded Blush. Must try and get back into it.

mrsissue · 12/11/2010 18:08

I love / hate it! :) I completed day 5 of level 1 today and I know longer hurt. I have had to put a cushion under my back for the bicycle crunches because it was really painful in my back otherwise. Also I had my DS 12 weeks ago and haven?t had any problems but my labour was only an hour and half and was very easy so don?t know if that makes a difference.

dontforgetthejoker · 12/11/2010 20:26

Bought this after reading this thread- hard work but have managed level one ( easy versions) - but tried level 2 today and just can't do it !!! Am 11 stone 7 with large bosoms (38H) so lots of flesh/flab flying about in all directions, plus I cant get off/clear the ground in a plank move. Would doing level one a bit longer help? If I try the hard versions ? Or do i give up on level 2 and accept that level one is doing some good, whereas prancing around like undercover elephant at the ballet and flailing around on the floor like a seal jellyhead is not? Anyone been there?

prettybird · 12/11/2010 22:18

Mrsissue - keep your legs higher for the bicycle crunch (c.80 degrees angle rather than 45 degrees or lower). You might find that puts less strain on your back. If it's straining your back, it means that your pelvic floor/abs/core stablising muscles are not strong enough yet.

Try lying on your back with your knees bent and relaxed. Rock your pelvis backwards and forwards until you find the most comfortable middle position (you should have a small gap between your lower back and the floor). YOur plevis should ideally be "flat" to the ceiling, neither tilted forwards or backwards. Try to keep it in that position while you are doing all the abs exercises.

Well done for doing the Shred so soon after the birth of your ds :)

LostGirl · 13/11/2010 05:45

dontforgetthejoker I would either do level 1 for another week but this time switch to the advanced exercises to all the moves, even if you cannot do all the reps on them, or just continue with level 2 and each time you do it try and hold the plank position for a couple of seconds longer than you did the previous time, then rest while you count to 5 and then try again. Within a week you will find that you are holding it for far longer than you could the first time you tried. Just remember whilst you are flailing on the floor like a seal that it is good that it is challenging, if it wasn't then it wouldn't get results Grin

If you decide to stick with level 1 then maybe spend a couple of minutes at the end of it practicing the plank position so that your body is getting stronger in this position in preparation for level 2.

Thankyou Lostgirl. Have done level one again today, and tried really hard to follow Natalie. Still can't do a proper full length press-up tho' ( which is what a 'plank' position is I think?) but will keep on trying and go back to level 2 when/if I can . Riven- level 2 is very scary!!

I completed day 7 of L1 today and I?m feeling quite good and proud, although I?m clearly not as good as realitybomb yet as I?m still doing girly press ups quite badly. As I?m doing WW I had to weight today and I have only lost 2lb thought i it might be more but I?m still pleased, especially as ive lost 1inch off each arm and 2.5 inchs off each leg! I love shred!

SMummyS · 14/11/2010 14:38

I know ive said it before, but i really am going to start shredding again.. was all set to start it 2 weeks ago, went and got changed then slipped down the stairs so was out of action for a week.

Going to do it along side reducing carbs in my eating, and maybe the odd day of hannah watermans body blitz cos i love that dvd.

titferbrains · 14/11/2010 19:31

oh dear, wanted to shred today and have failed. Just eaten supper, think I am going to watch tv then slink off to bed and SHRED ON tmw. Busy doing a cake this am then spent the day with family and had to get DD ready for bed etc. Should have done it before eating! grr at my stupidity.

Hope everyone has a good week. Really want to push myself and try to start level 2 on Friday... but am terrified by all yr comments!

Riven - I would def take the day off if u are fasting - you need energy to do the Shred!

chocoholic · 15/11/2010 12:01

This is my first venture on here as I have just done day one of the shred!! Grin

Can't walk now as my legs hurt so much and not sure I will ever be able to do a proper press up.

Tell me it gets easier!!!

Joby1970 · 15/11/2010 12:24

it does get easier (eventually) lol. No seriously, you do find yourself thinking around day 7/8 that it seems easier. Then after day ten you go onto level 2 OMG !
