Hi all just thought I would join in Smile
I have just done my first level 1 workout tonight and I can already tell that I am gonna ache in the morning!!

How long do people tend to spend on each level before moving up?

Tortoise · 16/08/2010 21:18

Day 27 done. 3 days to go!!! Grin

I do 10 days on each level 3ismylot

Undertone · 16/08/2010 21:36

I'm such a lamearse - Just did day 9 of workout 2 and I huuuuuurt

(day 8 level 2 was yesterday, but day 7 level 2 was last Wednesday - I've been going for long runs instead of facing up to level 2 again! One way of getting fitter, I guess Hmm)

Those fucking pendulum lunges are hard - not because they're painful, but because my balance is crap and I feel I'm rushing through them and not doing them properly because I'm wobbling and staggering about.

And I fucking hate plank twists.

Tortoise · 16/08/2010 21:40

UnderTone I agree, the pendulum lunges are hard. I too lack balance and don't feel i am doing them right. Much prefer the lunges in WO 3 but only the easy version! I can do jumping lunges! Grin Don't mind the plank twists. It's my arms that give up on any of the plank moves. Grin

Did WO1, Day 4, think Jillian would lamp me if she saw my feeble pressups.

TartyMcFarty · 16/08/2010 22:25

Oh I've been soooo bad. I'd not shredded since last Weds before today. Baby has a cold which she's kindly shared with me along with refusing to sleep at night. I know, excuses, excuses ...

Anyway, started L3 today. Nearly decided against finishing the Shred it was so hard, but felt great again after my spin and remember how hard I found the first day of L2.

I've no special occasions coming up for a while now that wedding anniversary has passed, and no plans to go off anywhere for a while, so hopefully I can just focus on healthy living without getting sidetracked!

Interesting to read what notyummy and LostGirl say about weights. I don't really fancy repeating the Shred over and over to infinity but do like the principles of interval training. How can I find out more?

thumbwitch · 17/08/2010 00:13

I am so bad, I lost motivation completely yesterday and didn't do it for no good reason except I didn't feel at all like it (no willpower). Am ashamed.

Joby1970 · 17/08/2010 08:13

C'mon ladies - YOU DON'T GET THESE ABS FOR FREE! (more Jillian to motivate you).

Tarty - she does other DVDs similar ish to the Shred O think ones called Boost Metabolism Banish Fat & another called No More Trouble Zones .. They are a bit longer than the Shred but I know of people who have enjoyed them.

notyummy · 17/08/2010 08:18

Billy Blanks Bootcamp Workout - again, a bit longer than the Shred, but really good and v tough.

Try googling Tabata and giving that a go as well - WARNING - it is reaaallllyyyy hard. 4 minutes, you think, how hard can it be? Well, to put it in perspective, I have only very occasionally actually felt like I was gargling my heart/going to die whilst doing the Shred - even when I have working very hard at the cardio. The cardio is pretty easy IMHO. Both thoise eloguent descriptors could describe EXACTLY how I feel about 1 min 30 into a 4 minute Tabata session.

Enjoy. Grin

And those of you not Shredding - GET TO IT PEOPLE!!!

LostGirl · 17/08/2010 08:24

Tarty the program I've been following is in this book. It is a weight lifting program with 15 minutes of high intensity interval training after every other session, so very little cardio but it is amazing how lifting weights raises your heart rate when you are lifting heavy enough weights and only resting briefly between sets. You do need to go to a gym or have a decent set of weights and some other basic equipment at home to do it though unfortunately.

Shabbychiclover · 17/08/2010 08:53

Icklejess-bought the weights thanks for that!
Joby-Don't think I have a store like that near me but thankyou anyway!

Just wondered if anyone is following a strict diet to go along with the workouts?
I don't over eat or anything but the recipes in Jillian's book are not the easiest things to make/get hold of.
Most of the breakfast recipes in the book are very 'American' wouldn't have a clue where to get turkey bacon!!

Also having couple glasses of vino most nights.Have you all cut out alcohol completely?

ThanksSmile

3ismylot · 17/08/2010 09:21

Well I can tell that I did the exercise yesterday but Im not as stiff as I thought I may have been! Am quite looking forward to doing it again tonight Smile

Tortoise thanks will try and do the same but am already scared of level 2 lol

Shabbychiclover I am following cambridge which is a vlcd and doing the shred to help me tone, you can get turkey rashers from most supermarkets, its usually in the same place as the bacon.

racmac · 17/08/2010 09:28

Going to buy some heavier weights today - i have been using 1.5kg but think could move up bit now

I have her cookbook and find it hard to follow as its very American - ive lost the motivation for weight loss though - i need to get back in the zone!
Wine is empty calories - how about limiting it to the weekend?

Ive ordered Billy blanks bootcamp so will let you know how i get on although i probably wont get round to it until kids go back to school - its hard enough making them amuse themselves for 20 mins Grin

TartyMcFarty · 17/08/2010 09:32

Ooh, I've heard of Tabata but can't afford gym membership these days. Have a free pass so will go along and make notes Grin

That book looks hardcore! What sort of results are you seeing LostGirl?

notyummy · 17/08/2010 09:36

You can do Tabata by sprinting/walking, and can also try it with any exercises that works a number of major muscles - squats for example.

One website I found suggested doing it with pull-ups./....my 4 measly pull-ups aren't going to last 4 minutes!! Grin

Joby1970 · 17/08/2010 10:14

I just try & watch what I eat & limit alcohol to weekends (doesn't always work lol). Obv shred works better when you can see results thro a thinner layer of fat Grin.

thumbwitch · 17/08/2010 10:43

Tesco used to sell turkey bacon, I don't know if they still do.

I am still having one glass of wine a day - trying not to but finding life a bit stressful at the mo. My bum is actually already tighter than it was (hurrah!) but the muffin handles aren't going to move unless I cut out the alcohol and chocolate :(. Having trouble persuading myself that it's worth it...

KristinaM · 17/08/2010 12:25

shredders - i need you advice please Smile

i'm now nearly finished my 30 days and I've only lost 3lb. I'm really discouraged Sad. i put on 4lb in June on holiday so I'm not even back to my pre holiday weight. Ideally i would like to lose about 12 lbs

i didnt take measurements at the begininng but there is no noticeable inch loss either Sad

I've done the shred nearly every day plus a bodypump class at the gym once twice a week

I haven't been on a calorie counting diet but i'm only eating fruit, veg and protein.

Please tell me where I'm going wrong?

notyummy · 17/08/2010 12:36

I am not a nutritionist Kristina but can't understand how anyone can not lose weight if they are only eating veg fruit and protein - unless you are eating a LOT of all of them!

The only thing I can think of is that you are not doing very much cardio. I know the Shred raises your heart rate up to a point (as does Body Pump), but perhaps combining it with some calorie burning cardio? I know if I run 5 miles I burn around 600 calories, for example.

The other factor is whether you are not eating enough and your body has gone into starvation mode and is hanging on to every calorie you eat. Perhaps some low GI carbs and cardio would kick start it?

Also - no booze!

Joby1970 · 17/08/2010 13:18

Kristina - are you sure you are not seeing any inch loss - what about improvement of muscle tone on biceps - can you see more of your shoulderbones or any improvement on abs & thighs - that's were I saw my changes. I did measure too

LostGirl · 17/08/2010 13:56

KristinaM, your body needs carbs and fat, for exercise to be as effective as possible then your body needs a bit of everything. It's good to keep plenty of protein in your diet as this will help to maintain/build muscle (especially if you are doing bodypump) and will stop you being hungry, but you should also be having some good complex carbs, especially post exercise to help re-fuel your muscles. As notyummy says, when we undereat and/or deprive our body of certain food groups then our bodies learn to hang onto its fat stores etc and will just burn muscle for energy instead which slows metabolism. This could be why you have not seen any results.

Tarty, I've been really pleased with the results, have gone from a 16 in January to a 10, and am really enjoying it.

Skimummy · 17/08/2010 14:10

Hi all!

Had a bad week last week due to catching my DDs cold so no Shred until yesterday! Did Level 1 yesterday and level 2 this morning and have also done a couple of runs. Running is not getting any easier for me unfortunately but I am enjoying mixing it up a bit.

KristinaM - how are your clothes fitting? I am not convinced I lost much weight doing the Shred but noticed a significant difference in how my clothes fit. Plus slightly less wobbling!

KristinaM · 17/08/2010 14:23

notyummy - neither can i!!! I have an underactive thyroid but take meds and last time my blood test were done they were fine. there is no point in going to Gp and asking why I'm not losing weight because they will tell me my BMI is normal, which it is. i want to lose weight for vanity, not health reasons. even if i lost a stone i would still have a normal BMI

joby - i know i am stronger and fitter - i find the cardio much easier than at the start and I am about 90% natalie and 10% anita IYSWM, which is an improvement from 30 days ago. eg at the beginning i coudl only do the push ups on my knees but now i can do full travelling ones . and i have moved from 1.5kg weights to 3kg on everything except the really hard moves

lostgirl - I didnt know that about the carbs - thanks, must check this out more......

all i really wanted was to lose some of the flab around my middle..........sigh

maybe I'm doing the wrong kind of exercise -please dont tell me i have to take up running.............i HATE running [sulks]

KristinaM · 17/08/2010 14:28

skimummy - all i wanted was for my jeans to fit better [ vain ]. i still have a post baby muffin top and my baby is at nursery Blush

your going to tell me to run, arent you??????

apologies to those of you who are shifting many kg for heath reasons, heart disease, diabetes etc - i know this whinging over half a stone must be irritating Blush

notyummy · 17/08/2010 14:31

I think some running has got to be worth a try...
