I've just ordered this dvd, it sounds intense, when people are talking about weights I just have some small handweights, would these be suitable?

Also how long is each session and how many sessions per week is recommended? I'm looking to add this into my usual routine where I exercise 4-6 times per week.

Tortoise · 09/08/2010 23:09

Welcome new shreddies. Grin

Failed to shred last 2 nights Sad Blush. Back to it tomorrow or i won't finish before holiday!

I'm on day 8 Level 1 and aim to move to Level 2 on Friday.

I am a stranger to any form of exercise Grin and although it nearly killed me the first couple of days, I'm really enjoying it now.

Think Level 2 will be a shock to the system though...

Have lost a couple of pounds too as been very careful about what I eat but DC4 is only 8 weeks old and I'm EBF too so can't have too drastic a weight loss.

I have to do the Shred as soon as I wake of a morning otherwise if the kids are all up a) they'd watch, laugh and generally put me off and 2) I'd get weighed down with all their demands etc and never get around to doing the Shred.

I think I'm noticing results already - have lost the baggy, post-birth muffin-top part between my boobs and tummy, arms look more toned and I ache lots! Only have just under a stone to lose as have lost nearly 2 stone already but seriously need to tone up now.

detoxdiva · 10/08/2010 08:22

Happily - the workout is 20 minutes so easily do-able on most days. I generally do it when the dc are in bed. Your handweights sound fine - it sounds like most people on here start with random items from the kitchen cupboard and then move on to weights. Good Luck!

notyummy · 10/08/2010 08:33

Wow icklejess - sounds like you are doing so well. I am v impressed! If you can fit it in with a new baby and 3 other children, then most of the rest of us have no excuses.

thumbwitch · 10/08/2010 13:13

I'm ALIIIIIIIVE! Grin
Done my first one - not too bad (apart from the push ups, I can't and never have been any good at those) and also taking some of the jumping around down because I have ishoos with high-impact jumping around (extreme purplitude of face and heart rate up into fibrillation levels).

I think, apart from my quads which are going to kill me tomorrow, this will be ok-ish because I have done most of these moves at some time before, either in circuit training or aerobics classes - so my bod has to remember them rather than learn them. I'm hoping that will be good... and I'll be toning muscles that used to be toned (some yyears ago now).

Is it cheating to wear a jumper to do it, to increase the thermal stress? Wink

I'll need to improve my weights though - 400g cans of beans aren't that taxing.

Joby1970 · 10/08/2010 13:19

Thumbwitch - how in h3ll did you wear a jumper when doing it - I'd be a puddle in the middle of the living room floor if I did that!

thumbwitch · 10/08/2010 13:38

ah well, first of all it's colder here than in the UK (Aussie winter) and second, I was just too lazy to take it off.

I can feel interesting reactions in my neck muscles now, always an area of contention for me - might have to take it easier on the abs stuff next time :(; or maybe it was those windmill arms at the beginning - I could hear my neck grinding with every swing! Shock

aJumpedUpPantryBoy · 10/08/2010 14:44

I think I would have collapsed in an ungainly heap if I had worn a jumper - actually, everytime I have to move back to the mat I do collapse in a heap.

I am finding it slightly easier after 5 days. My knees are still protesting at all of the impact activities.

TartyMcFarty · 10/08/2010 17:16

Oh arses, I fell off the wagon for three days and am struggling to motivate myself to do day 20 today. Somebody make me do it!

detoxdiva · 10/08/2010 20:31

tarty - get that sports kit on now young lady and press play.....Grin Day 3 of level 2 just done here, and I sooooooo could have just made a cuppa and watched Eastenders instead, but am glad it's done now and am still on the wagon!

Tortoise · 10/08/2010 21:06

Go Tarty Go Tarty Grin You can do it. Smile

Tortoise · 10/08/2010 22:08

Just done day 22!
Only 8 days to go. If i do it every day from now i will end on Wednesday next week. 2 days before going on holiday! Grin

OP posts:
kkey21 · 10/08/2010 22:22

Wow tortoise, thats fab!

How do you feel? have you weighed/is the difference noticable to yourself?

My day 2 seems far away from day 22!

Tortoise · 10/08/2010 22:52

In the first 30 days i lost about 7lbs and 1/2 inch of arms, Same off thighs, hips and waist.

Will measure again next Wednesday (scared!) but i have lost just over a stone since January. Taken a long time but have lost more by doing this that i was losing before starting the 30 day shred. Smile

I still hate WO 3! Grin

thumbwitch · 11/08/2010 01:04

PRobably a silly question but do you do 10 days on L1, then 10 on L2 and 10 on L3? Or do you move up when you feel the level you're on is getting a bit too easy? (HA!)

Good news - no real aches and pains this morning although my knees are feeling it a bit - am heartened and looking forward to the next one, although not quite sure when to do it in the day. Could be good getting DS to join in, I suppose... (he's 2.8) Grin

LC200 · 11/08/2010 06:43

Thumbwitch, I just moved up when I felt ready for the next level. Am about 15 days in and on Level 3 now, still doing some of the easier exercises (am never going to be able to do a walking push-up) but it feels like the right level.

I haven't really lost much weight doing it (am 5'8" and weigh around 10 stone) but am definitely more toned and stronger. I have loads more definition in my abs and shoulders. We were on hols at Disneyland Paris last week and I carried my 20kg 4 and a half year old around for a few miles at a quick walking pace - would so not have been able to do that before the shred.

IckleJess · 11/08/2010 09:23

My feet and ankles are killing me today! Do you all wear trainers when doing the Shred? I think that may be where I'm going wrong - I've been doing it bare-foot and on a wooden floor too, I think it's too much impact. Went upstairs to do it this morning where there is a plush carpet and it all felt far more cushioned.

I'm loving it, although sure that will all change when I start level2 on Friday. I've had a difficult pregnancy with SPD amongst other ailments and was just so unfit so it feels great to be doing some exercise, esp such hardcore exercise Grin

Just wish I was losing a bit more weight, am being uber good food-wise, obv exercising daily, EBF so should be burning around 500 cals a day doing that, yet the scales are staying the same Hmm People will say it's because you're building muscle and that's heavier than fat...but I read that you'd have to have the muscles of a serious athlete for it to make a difference to your weight.

Has anybody lost anywhere near the 20lbs the DVD claims you can lose? Or is it just because my weight is already well within the guidelines of 'normal' for my height but I'd like to be a bit less?

Sorry for long post, a lot of questions there lol Blush

notyummy · 11/08/2010 09:54

Ickle - DEF wear trainers. It is high impact stuff and your joints need the support. I wouldn't have thought you would be looking at losing 20lbs as quoted if you already within a healthy weight range; I think to lose that amount you would need to be heavily overweight or be really restricting your calorie intake. Would be better to measure yourself I think and use that as a guide - for you the weight may take longer because of bf, but over the long term this should lead to weight loss as long as you are eating healthily, as the additional muscle you are building should burn more calories overall.

Joby1970 · 11/08/2010 12:15

I agree you HAVE to wear trainers or you'll set yourself up for injury.

I didn't lose loads of weight but lost inches & thats the important thing - I don't care what the scales say. I now look a good 1.5 stones less than I weigh!

LostGirl · 11/08/2010 14:08

Ickle, please just ignore the scales they are not an accurate measure as our weight fluctuates so much on a day to day basis due to water retention etc. Try measuring yourself once a month, or taking photos instead, or just use the fit of your clothes and how you feel in yourself as a measure of whether it is working for you or not. I've gone down three dress sizes in the last 6 months, but according to the scales I've only lost 5lbs.

thumbwitch · 11/08/2010 15:04

Hurrah! 2nd day and I'm still not dead.
(this could be a regular and boring feature until I realise I can cope)

Bit harder going tonight - muscles in some areas were protesting but hey, that's the point, isn't it?!

Ruined it all by eating a bar of chocolate (did have nuts in though) about 1 hr prior to doing said work out. :(

Moved one exercise up to high impact again (skipping) without overly buggering heartrate or facial colour, so quite pleased about that. Can't jump the buttkicks yet though - that might take a while. Blush

When I think back to my days of circuit training and what I used to be able to do, it's quite upsetting to think how far I've let myself go. But I'm back on track now, baby! Grin

notyummy · 11/08/2010 15:08

Well done Thumbwitch - a few weeks and you will blasting through all the stuff on the 'hard' version.

Joby1970 · 11/08/2010 16:21
