Welcome back Kooks.

I agree Cyb - I flirted with no carb but thought that there was no way I could keep it up long term so I've stuck to avoiding processed foods, white bread, white pasta and potatoes, fats and sugar, which is all the stuff I should be doing anyway.Eating off a small plate really helps control portion size too. And upping the exercise to tone up and burn off fat.

Ooh bought a lovely top for my sister. Looks a bit on the photo but is fab in RL. Shame I have to hand it over.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 20/03/2010 08:25

porridge. on zh you eat wholemeal pasta and brown rice etc. re the smaller servings she says (with research to back this up although who can say with research?) that the body is a survival machine and will adapt to new circs so even lower cals will only help in the short term. apparently the research that led to the calorie thing was only looking at one person for five days, and given that our weight has gone up steadily since the advice was introduced it may just be plumb wrong. that's what zh says anyway, lord knows what the actual truth is. but if all i have to do is not eat potatoes with roast chicken and pile into lots of veggie curry made with healthy (ie non animal) oils and basmati rice, then it's already looking like an adaptation of the way i eat.

but like i say, i've not even done it yet, just reading the book, so have no particular axe to grind on the subject.

cocolepew · 20/03/2010 08:54

Oh I've weighted myself in this morning in my jammies and was 10st 11 lbs.

cyb · 20/03/2010 09:03

Hello.
I have a couple of questions for the monkey girl - my friend is about to start weaning and I was telling her about baby led - can you let me have your website address?
What recipe book are you talking about with the good recipes?
Am also trying to lose a stone. Am nearly 10 which is really big for me - have always been a size 8 and now i'm creeping into a 12 for first time ever. Doing really badly though because i have no idea how to cut down on carbs. Doesnt' that make you cry?

Best diet day so far has been dp cooking a goulash so revoltingly hot it was totally inedible and we had to chuck it.

SuSylvester · 20/03/2010 09:25

i cna onyl tell you what works for me
itsloosely based on ww( which i have done successfully in past)
its 18 "points" a day and as carbs are high points i dont use them much
haevne had bread since feb 14t...

Do you get tired or crabby and do you have energy? Do the rest of the family eat the same or do you give them extra?

Kryptik · 20/03/2010 09:32

Susylvester your approach sounds similar to mine.
What do you snack on and do you exercise?
Do you make your soups or buy them? I've been using shop bought ones but I'm sure I'd lose faster if I made them myself.

brimfull · 20/03/2010 09:39

ah think I might make some soup today
am sick of salad

lost a lb this morning
and I am due on and need a bowel action so pah maybe another lb there

isthatporridgeinyourhair · 20/03/2010 09:46

Found it myself Cyb - doesn't happen as often as I'd like it to!

I say yes to khakis - but not shiny ones - more like this - wish they weren't so ££££.

Well done Coco. Fab.

Flame · 20/03/2010 09:49

Ello.

I have 8lb to lose.

Not masses, but enough iyswim. Could do with some stomach muscles too.

Less cheeseballs would help me. Prob less wine too. DD2 might appreciate less wine too

SuSylvester · 20/03/2010 09:59

flame i have done just over 8lb in a month

am i crabby no
do i excercise yes - twice a week this week although would prefer more, have been in court on days off

MAKE soups - cant eat fake ones.
if no sop then low fat crakcers and philly and mango chutney

or school canteen dinnder - cold chicekn small coleslaw and sad iceberg lettuce £1.75

Flame · 20/03/2010 10:03

Just eating better in general would do me good atm. We're just grabbing any random crap.

Will get a big pot of soup going today. I always find making soup therapeutic.

Exercise is my stumbling block. Skint as always so can't afford gym or swimming, and by the time DH gets home it is dark out so going jogging or something isn't really an option. I have a great stomach muscle dvd thing but I am terrible at motivation .

In an ideal world I would lose DD2 for an hour or so a couple of times a week and do something then, but Psycho was my only daytime person I could harass and she isn't well enough to keep her alone. Gah.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 20/03/2010 10:09

are you crabby? [hostage to fortune icon]

boco i've been looking at the zoe harcombe thing, to me it looks good but i've not done it yet as i am going out for a meal and drinks tonight and mil coming tomorrow so no point. but as of mondaaaaay.

it could be a load of utter balls but it seems to be a bit of food combining a la early nineties, more cooking and no processed food etc. there's also some candida mumbo jumbo in there as well which is apparently dealt with by strict five day induction. i don't know if i believe in the candida thing but according to her checklist it's coming out of my ears...

so i must stress i'm not recommending this zh woman, i've not fully got to grips with it yet. it just seems not to be a calorie or points or servings thing, more a 'take care of your insulin and eat better' thing. and the recipe book has proper recipes rather than 'things to do with corned beef' a la slimming world etc.

oh, it's all happening on the forum these days tbh
