CURRY are you quite mad!

hi kooks

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 19/03/2010 21:57

marks used to do a sensational (once you'd put more chili in) 'good for you' lentilly thai curry thing, it looked revolting so was always knocked down. however, you really did need to eat two.

SuSylvester · 19/03/2010 22:00

i had a small amount of htis

tbh was for morale as fo r anything else

rightfootfirst · 19/03/2010 22:03

Lost 4 lbs since last saturday, been bloody awful. Had cravings like it was cigs and not chocolate, chewed disgusting amounts of sugar free gum, dranks litres of water. Am amazed all family members are still alive!

largeginandtonic · 19/03/2010 22:05

That dress thing is horrid. Not even Kate Moss could pull that off surely.

I have 'For Esme with Love and Squalor' on thr bedside table atm. I blame India Knight. Tis next to the second Twilight book, whatever that is called. The Moon or summat.

That fennel and nettle is a winner all round then! Where do you buy it?

I have a friend coming tom to stay for the weekend. I am cooking up Cod loin with chickpeas and spinach. Saw it in the Waitrose recipie book. Nice but still good i think.

She has 5 boys. There will be 12 children in the house. I may be drinking tomorrow too.

BariatricObama · 19/03/2010 22:06

i have just finished 'any human heart' i think i enjoyed it!

for esme is a good read

SuSylvester · 19/03/2010 22:07

night all

glasjam · 19/03/2010 22:08

Can I just confirm that LeSinge's breath does NOT honk and that she was looking fabulous in a GAP dress that I am covetting

Have been lurking on this thread for a while now so, hello everyone and yes, Asda's finest vintage balsamic vinegar is working for me. Allows me to consume lots of baby spinach and tomatoes with some relish.

I have lost 23 and a half pounds since September and intend to lose another stone and a half by June.

Oh yes, statistics - was 13 stone 5 in September, am 11 stone 9.5 now and am 5 ft 4 - think that 9 stone 12 would be a good weight to get to but will be happy with 10 stone 6.

Right. Back to the red wine...

BariatricObama · 19/03/2010 22:08

cheerio! (see what i did there)

CheeeseOnToast · 19/03/2010 22:18

Evenin' all.

Another night out tonight, and this time i wasn't quite so hot on resisting snacks. I had two fish cakes at about 8pm - which were more like potato cakes that had been shown a fish - but i did only have two chips and one piece of garlic bread. Which is very restrained compared to before.

the great thing was though i didnt even eat all of the fish cakes, and was too full to eat any more chips, but before i would have woofed them regardless.

However, i have had two-three glasses of rose... oops... had to share a bottle though. just glugged a load of water though now i'm home.

ooh ooh i LOVE Sarah Waters, I recently read The Night Watch and it was really good. I want to read her latest, Little Stranger, and will when its out in paperback (is it out in PB yet?!)

CheeeseOnToast · 19/03/2010 22:19

Oh and I see someone mentioned weight watchers dinners - i used to like these v much - worth getting again maybe? I liked the chicken hot pot one, good with some extra veg, i might get them again for dinners next week...

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 19/03/2010 22:49

hey glasjam, what do you eat at your movie nights? is that not depressing beyond belief, looking on as everyone else noshes down on cheesy balls etc?

have been reading the zoe harcombe recipe book, it looks SERIOUSLY good, exactly the type of food i like eating. the gist seems to be that if you're eating carbs, eat them, but no protein. it's more complicated cos she's a bit of a food snob and all about the YOU MUST BAKE OWN BREAD OR DIE OF THRUSH but i suspect it's just 'SW extra easy' from what i understand of that.

and tbh that's fine by me, what narks me about SW is that they're flogging so much convenience food, so if zh is flogging proper recipes that conform to 'a lifestyle plan' then so be it.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 19/03/2010 22:56

oh, and about your weight loss btw, you are looking really great. and younger, really.

cyb · 19/03/2010 23:04

Cheese yes it is Little Stranger in pb I am readng but I keep dropping off as I am too tired

glasjam · 19/03/2010 23:41

Aitch, I don't miss out on the cheesy balls on a Friday nite But I try and do the WW thang 5 days a week and then not go TOO out of control on the weekend - but I still have all the pizza, sweeties and wine thing going on.

I am sure when I am down to 10 stone something I will have to be more careful but at the moment there is a bit of leeway.

From what I can remember, the Zoe Harcombe people lost weight spectacularly but then put it back on again some weeks and months later - same as any diet really - it's not the diet, it's how well YOU stick to it.

Am half watching Sports Relief - dire!

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 20/03/2010 00:08

really? gosh, then, that weight loss is impressive given that you are a hog (tm cod) on the weekend.

yyy re zoe harcombe, and if you look at india and nerys' site as well you can see that while there are plenty of new starters going oooooh i am losing there are only a few long termers.

the zh thing does look interesting because the recipes are by and large what i eat anyway, i'd just have to cut down on potatoes and rice and pasta etc except if i am eating veggie. (i may be wrong about that, though, am still getting my head round it).

glasjam · 20/03/2010 00:42

Oh I hope that my cheesy balls comment wasn't misinterpreted as an awful shiney-like euphemsism for anything?

I NEED potatoes, rice and pasta though - I have tried to sit down at breakfast with a poached egg or two and think "Ahhh that was satisfying" I really need the density of a carb to make my stomach think it's eaten something.

I was a very poncey person in 1998 and did the whole Montigac thing (the French person who did the Low GI thing first). I remember me and J going to the cafe in some posh part of London and munching on a low carb biscuit. J lost a lot of weight but looked deflated like a let down balloon - he has resisted weight loss since We had a lot of goose fat in the fridge.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 20/03/2010 00:52

oh yes, me too, you just don't eat them with meat, that's all, but veggie meals no problem (from what i understand so far). that's why twatkins/indiotandnerys is like the third circle of hell for me.

it does seem to me that of all the 'ways' to eat nowadays, less wheat more protein etc is good, but that it's completely unsustainable in the longer term. so maybe this is more do-able as a move towards a lower gi thing for me? who knows?

tbh i can't shake the eat loads of carbs and no fat thing that i've been told my entire life, but it does seem like it's not as simple as that.

largeginandtonic · 20/03/2010 07:30

So am i buying ZH or what?

I think you are all looking youger and slimmer. Glowing even.

Am off to Amazon.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 20/03/2010 07:44

oh listen i don't know. like glasjam says, it looked like most of the people who started her on here fell off the wagon after a while, but i'd ordered the books before i noticed that.

i'm sure it's heretical but i'd be interested in doing her thing five days out of seven, iykwim? i think if i have to do anything Every Day For The Rest Of My Life then i'll lose the will to live it.

largeginandtonic · 20/03/2010 07:51

Have ordered it. I read the reviews. I am interested in doing the 3/5 day slots. Just to see.

Makes this whole dieting business a bit more fun.

cyb · 20/03/2010 07:52

can you not just adapt your daily eating yourselves?

I am always a bit sceptical of buying into 'a diet' rather than adjusting your habits.

Have you read that article that...I think it was coco linked to earlier on in this MASSIVE thread. It does put things into perspective and it really helped get my brain in the 'zone'

I think following any sort of regimented 'diet' just means you will slip and fall off, they can't be maintained forever. Changing ingrained habits and making healthier switches can be maintained long term

largeginandtonic · 20/03/2010 07:58

Your right Cyb. I just want a gimmick or two to get me through the major weight stack.

I am pretty good at maintaining my weight once i get there. Have been this big before after having a baby. Just not for as long as this. Normally the weight has gone by the time they are 1.

I think the losing it and then putting it back on has been the shocker for me.

Maybe everything will be different this time > and i will be eating my words in a few months.

We need a new thread.

cyb · 20/03/2010 08:02

yy to a new thread we ahve too much to say too quickly on this one!

you must go with whatever works for you fo course. I personally find following a diet too depressing and restrictive but this time I seem to ahve managed ok so far by my own sheer will (and this thread of course, and the scary SUCAM )which has surprised me as I'm always the first one with my arm in the biscuit tin,.

I am saying NO, and delighting in that fact

Let us know what the book is like when it comes

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 20/03/2010 08:03

well not really, not when it seems that the old line of 'eat less, do more' might be fundamentally flawed, and what you are eating is more important. i really don't want to eat less, quite sincerely, because i know that for me it is unsustainable. i'd rather eat differently, iykwim?

and having looked at this zh recipe book it is loads of stuff that i either already cook or used to cook and have fallen off my repertoire. tabbouleh, greek salad, roast chicken, lentil moussaka, homemade bread etc etc etc, all stuff i LIKE but without any mimsy low fat dressings. anyway, we'll see, i do feel instinctively that these things are money for old rope, i suppose i just need to spend my money on the right rope for me.
