Hi ladies!

Thought it might be nice to have a new thread for the new(ish) year.

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 09/05/2010 23:38

have nocturnal children tonight. I should hve known when DS3 asked for the big TV on (it's not that big, but he usually watches a video of Fun Song Factory -!- or Bob the Builder in the other room with me and my parents, rather than sitting in the living room where the big boys watch Top Gear on Dave or play computer) and settled down in the beanbag... he fell asleep and slept til 5pm, then woke in a temper and cried while I carried him home. After cuddling he went back off til 8, so he is still going strong now, and DS2 was very narked to have to go to bed while his younger brother was still up, so he is now asleep on the sofa...

mummymels · 10/05/2010 20:14

RGPargy ? It sounds as if you had a brilliant night on Saturday. Hmm should be back to the beginning today but I have just found myself eating a bit of leftover pizza. That is really going to help matters. Definitely back to it tomorrow!

Ria ? How did you get on today? Better than me I am sure. I hope you managed to get the kids into bed in the end last night and they are sleeping better tonight. I am having real problems with my 4 year old going to bed at the moment. I take him up as normal but he won?t go to sleep till about 9pm. Maybe he is at an age where they start to generally go to bed later, I don?t know but he is only 4 so I wouldn?t have thought so.

Riapentatleisure · 11/05/2010 11:51

I think we went up about midnight in the end. Lat night it would be 10pm or so, but I gave in and had them both in my bed. It seems my kids just don't need sleep.

Diet not going well, so tired and my head is spinning/clogged up with other stuff. Would just like to sleep for a month (and maybe wake up half a stone lighter from not eating anything)

mummymels · 11/05/2010 20:23

I hope you have a better night tonight. My DD ends up in our bed quite often and I understand where you are coming from in saying you gave in. I am often too tired to deal with it so just let her stay there. I hope you have your bed to yourself tonight. I hope you are also feeling better soon.

RGPargy · 11/05/2010 22:13

Ria - hope the kids are sleeping better now. DD has lately been a PITA for going to sleep, always wanting a poo once i've put her into bed and then spending another 20-30 minutes sitting on the loo trying to get me to sing songs with her. Being a mean mummy, i always say no as it's bed time lol.

DD is being incredibly clingy at the moment to the point where i bottled it yesterday morning because of her whinging and didn't go to the gym. I did manage to go in the evening tho and she happily waved me off while in the arms of daddy. It was nursery day today and she was sobbing from when i put her coat on until after i left her there. She was getting hysterical to the point where she started coughing and wretching. Not sure that they were crocodile tears!!

DP tells me it's just one of those things and she'll have to get used to it, but that doesn't stop me feeling like a sh!t mother for leaving a crying child at the creche twice a week and an hysterical child at nursery once a week!!

OP posts:
RGPargy · 11/05/2010 22:15

Oh and to comfort myself after i left DD at nursery, i ended up going into the shop and buying a bag of crisps and a couple of packets of sherbert dipdabs.

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 12/05/2010 14:11

I know that feeling RG. DS2 was like that with preschool and nursery (even to the point the hysterics would start the night before sometiems) and I have had a couple of occasions sat weeping myself in the foyer of the preschool building. He changed straight away with Reception class though, and now he gets like that if he can't go to school. The knowing it will pas eventually does not help while you're going through it.

In contrast I took DS3 for his first hour at preschool this morning, and he didn't flinch and I had to wrestle him out of there when his hour was up. He is going for the full session next week, so belt-tightening necessary (it's not much compared to what people pay for childcare when then are working, but when you are not working it seems a massive dent in the budget, but apparently he starts nursery in September, and won't get an assisted place until then, so i don't have much choice)

have comforted myself with chocolate feeling poo generally today, and burst into tears at a junction driving to the supermarket

RGPargy · 12/05/2010 20:39

Isn't it funny how he changed with reception! I hope DD changes soon. I'll end up being a hermit at this rate if i give in to her!

Sorry you are feeling poo Ria, no wonder you turned to chocolate. I feel like that a bit today too. Just soooo tired and fed up with DD being clingy and DP acting like the child and sulking because DD doesn't want to go to him. Sick of there always being some sort of drama.

DD loved her first hour at preschool too and didn't want to leave - but that was because i was there with her! now she knows i am leaving, she is like a wailing banshee.

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 13/05/2010 14:47

another poo day with a crying outburst because DS3 had emptied the bag of straw for the hutch all over the patio, I must be over-tired!

It started so well too - feeling bit crap on the school run so I came home and had a bath before we went to toddler church. After a chat with my friend who has lost 3lb this week, I hopped on the scales to see what damage I have done, and I had lost 3lb too. I am only 7lb off my first goal. Now, how to find the motivation to lose that lb in the next 3 weeks when all I want to do is eat chocolate and sleep...

mummymels · 13/05/2010 22:37

RGPargy ? The things they do to try and get out of going to bed! That must be so hard for you leaving your DD when she is being so clingy but in the long term it is for the best otherwise she would never get used to being away from you. It must be hard to be so strong though. How old is she? My DD is quite clingy too (although funnily enough have settled into nursery really well) and I can understand how draining it is. She follows me around the house and has to be attached to me all the time.

Ria ? I hope you are feeling better today. Sorry you are under the weather. I understand you on the cost of childcare. That?s why I work from home because it wouldn?t be worth my while going out to work after childcare costs. That?s great news re your loss this week.

Can you believe the timing of things. I am supposed to be going to the NCT conference tomorrow until Sunday. I never go away and leave my children overnight so this is a rarity for me but DD has had a temperature of 103 for 2 days now and I am not sure I want to go away and leave her if she is still poorly in the morning.

Riapentatleisure · 13/05/2010 22:51

mels, hope things are better in the morning.

RGPargy · 13/05/2010 23:29

Ria - sorry you are feeling pants Deffo sounds like over-tiredness to me. Great news on the loss tho! Well done!

Mummymels - DD is 2.5. Had a much better morning/evening with her today (i was at work lol) and she was in a great mood tonight when i got home, probably due to her having had a nap earlier on.

Keeping my fingers crossed that your DD's temperature goes down in time for tomorrow's conference!

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 15/05/2010 23:16

hope you managed to go away mels.

hope you are enjoying curry night RG, have just had houmous with veg sticks and pitta bread, and could kill for a pizza. Had a picnic at lunch and I only had salad sandwiches (bloody cat got under the foil to my lovingly roasted garlic and rosemary chicken. The bugger! We only ate one breast last night so I had plenty for sandwiches), and I had a co-op healthy living chilli chicken noodle salad bowl for tea (the boys had boiled eggs - we bought the eggs from a country cottage whilst out on our walk, I carried them for 2 miles!) We did a 4 mile walk through some local-ish woods, at DS3 speed though as he walked all the way, bless him, he is like a little mountain goat. DS1 said he was really enjoying it and it was like DH and I weren't apart as it was like the days out we used to have (surely it wasn't that bad)

Am really hungry. Will have to go to bed before I eat the rest of the turkish delight multi-pack serves me right for wasting points on a bacon roll for breakfast! ("official" weigh-in tomorrow, so I have to be strong...)

hope it's good weekends all round

Riapentatleisure · 17/05/2010 09:44

pah, Monday morning exhaustion here. Did a car boot sale yesterday. 5.30am does not agree with me! (it didn't start til 11.30 either!)

official weigh-in yesterday, another pound gone. Had the Morrisons pizza/salad deal with the boys for a treat last night, but there are leftovers. Also have DS2 off school with a cough, and a yearning for beans on toast and many mugs of tea... today could be a bad day...

have a good week!

RGPargy · 17/05/2010 23:17

Ria - i am SO BOOOOOORRREEEDD of bloody curry!!! DP has this undying love affair with the stuff that i just cant understand!! Now chips from the chip shop on the other hand are my true lust but we never EVER get to have them because DP isn't overly keen. Not very fair that, is it?!

What a naughty cat you have!!! Little bugger!

Glad you had a nice walk. It's sad what comes out of hte mouths of kids sometimes, isn't it.

Did you resist the turkish delights? Haven't had one of them in years! Well done on the pound gone! Excellent news!

Beans on toast isn't actually that bad Ria so if you're gonna snack on something, that's great to snack on (although i'm not sure your DC would appreciate the green air afterwards.... ).

Went to the gym today and actually had a great laugh in the class. Everyone was really noisy and laughing and generally having a laugh with each other. I think it must have made me work harder because i ache now!!

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 18/05/2010 23:44

Nope, not fair. Can you have chips when he has curry? (not an option here as all Indian places are in town, and village chippy not always good - which is crap for a seaside place. Many good chinese takewaways and kebabs though) What kind of curry does your DP have? Presumably there must be some sort of "proper" veggie curry that is far tastier than any I have ever made? (not difficult)

Turkish delight long gone (think I finished it yesterday) Have not been good with food at all, but ache all over from manic cleaning (had to scrub the rug today as DS3 thought it would be a good idea to squeeze laundry liquid into my croc and onto the rug He is also a little bugger! the cat has finished the remaining chicken now, think he is glad to be back on cat food)

My friend was telling me that years ago when she was a kid her mum did WW (I think, or SW...) and she used to have a Frys turkish delight as her treat - she used to cut it into pieces and wrap each piece in foil, then put them in the fridge, then when it came to eating it it was like having a box of chocolates having to unwrap each piece etc... don't think it would work for me as I would eat most of it while cutting it up and need another

glad you enjoyed your class. DS1 made us walk to collect DS2 from Badgers tonight (he is "getting fit for cricket") as I was crap and took them to McD's for tea

mummymels · 19/05/2010 22:02

RGPargy ? Your DD is the same age as mine. That?s good that you had a better time with her. You need some compromise on the food! That?s great that the exercise was such fun, it makes it more bearable to go.

Ria ? It sounds as if you had a lovely walk and day out. Shame about the sandwiches being nicked though! Well done on your loss. That?s sad what DS said about DP. Oh no about the rug, I hope it came out. That sounds the sort of thing my DS would do! Lol on wrapping the chocolates ? I don?t like Turkish delight but it would have the same effect on me with other chocolate eating it as I was wrapping.

I took DD to the doctor on Friday and it turns out she had tonsillitis so I was pleased I went and got her checked and it also meant I could go to the conference without worrying about her getting worse because she then had antibiotics.

I didn?t weigh myself this week. I cheated so much at the conference at the weekend. There really wasn?t much low carb that I could eat there and to be honest I wanted to join in with meals out and drinks etc as I don?t get out often these days. I sound like such a saddo don?t I! But I am back on track this week again and will be good from now on.

RGPargy · 21/05/2010 13:25

I have suggested to DP that he have curry and i'll have chips and he just says "oh really?" and gives me a look that says i am being a PITA and why on earth would i NOT want a curry! lol. He almost always has a vegetable balti which are usually quite nice but for me the lack of meat makes it seem weak and worthless, haha!! A bit like macaroni cheese without the cheese, perhaps?

I dont think i could ever have the patience or will power to wrap up a cut up Turkish Delight!! It's a good idea tho, but it wouldn't work with me as i'm too greedy.

It's good that DS1 is aware of taking extra exercise when he's eaten rubbish!

Mummymels - Hope your DD gets better soon. I used to suffer from tonsilitis alot as a kid and it's horrible! I know what you mean about wanting to join in with eating out etc. When i was low carbing i found it great at first but ended up finding it quite restrictive, which then led me to resent it a bit. I did notice a lack of bloating and heaps more energy tho, which is great. It does make me tempted to go back to low carbing but as i've been away from it for so long, my mind has gone back to thinking "how can it possibly work?" Do you use fitday.com to monitor your carbs etc?

DP is off out with his dad tonight for beers so i have told him to have his dinner before he goes and i will grab something from the chippy (hooray!!) on the way home. Sneaky sneaky!

Enjoy your weekend ladies!

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 21/05/2010 14:08

hi all.

glad you got away Mels, and that you are getting your chips RG

I have been REALLY bad this week, but am being extra good today and tomorrow in the home that the scales aren't too unkind on Sunday, am going to see about organising my few days away at half term over the weekend too.

The good news is I have spent a bit of time with DH this week, and he is maybe moving back in next week. But I suppose it has time to go horribly wrong again before then. He has taken some cardboard boxes from here anyway. (the only problem is I will have to do all the movoing and unpacking as he isn't allowed to life for 10 weeks) It is a daunting prospect making the change!

RGPargy · 24/05/2010 22:38

Hello everyone

Had a stomach bug since Friday night. i'm convinced it's down to a dodgy chicken kebab skewer i ate on friday night but DP isn't so sure lol. I've not been able to go to the gym either yesterday or today as i didn't have the energy and tbh, if i exerted myself too much, i'm pretty sure i would have left with brown trousers!!

Hope your week goes well!

OP posts:
Riapentatleisure · 24/05/2010 22:41

hope your suffering is reflected favourably in the scales RG. Hope you soon feel better though.

Have been a bit lax today, but am hitting tesco tomorrow for fruit and salad. Got to make the most of the weather and eat juicy, crunchy stuff

Riapentatleisure · 25/05/2010 14:01

Healthy shop done (and stocked up on that low-alcohol pink fizz I had before as it's on 3 for £10 again), and have arranged my few days away with my parents next week, so am all enthusiastic

hope you are feeling better today RG. Did you complain in th end?

RGPargy · 26/05/2010 20:45

Evening all

Ria - i lost about 4lbs so that was one compensation for all the belly aches and "digestive discomfort" i've had to endure over the last few days!! I think today is the only day that i've not been dashing to the loo after everything i've eaten! I'm sure the 4lbs will find it's way back on my hips soon enough.

Glad you got everything healthy from Tesco. Think i'm going to give Tesco a go instead of Asda. I'm getting increasingly fed up with things either not being available when i shop online (despite being there the week before!) or getting the hump when i go there in person because of one thing or another.

I didn't complain to the kebab shop in the end, against my better judgement!!

Enjoy your holiday Ria. We are off to suffolk for a week in the second week of June so wont be around that much on here i should imagine.

Have a nice evening!

OP posts:
mummymels · 26/05/2010 21:02

RGPargy - That makes sense with the curry. I know what you mean about the lack of meat. That sounds a nice treat having something from the chippy. DD was fine after a couple of days of the antibiotics thanks. She doesn't get it much thankfully. DS used to get it a lot but has had his tonsils and adenoids out now and it's made a world of difference. I understand what you are saying about low carb. I know the last month or so I haven't been very good with it and I think it was because I have been doing it for so long. I have got it out my system now though and am back on track. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Ria - That is great that you are working things out with DH. I really hope it all works out for you now. Hope you have a lovely few days away. Where are you going?

Riapentatleisure · 26/05/2010 22:12

well done RG, shame you had to suffer though. Hope you are well on the road to recovery. Take it easy for the first few gym sessions though.

Thanks Mels. fingers crossed it will go OK. we are going to spend a bit of time together over the weekend before I go away, then he will feed the cat and guinea pig while I am away, and bring back what he can I think (not that he is allowed to lift, so it won't be much!), ready to be home after my holidays

glad your DD is better. I used to suffer badly as a child and had the op like your DS. DS2 thankfully seems to have grown out of it, but the 1st 2 years of school was plagued
