Hi ladies!

Thought it might be nice to have a new thread for the new(ish) year.

Ria, it sounds as if you have everything planned out well. I will be thinking of you and really hope everything works out. How are you feeling about him moving back it?

I have noticed such a big difference in DS since them coming out. I felt guilty at the time putting him through a general anaesthetic at such a young age but now I can see the benefits I wouldn't think twice about it. He was sleeping badly before and crying in his sleep, constantly tired during the day from not having a restful sleep, barely eating, dribbling, constant colds, constant throat and ear infections, tonsilitis etc etc and now he is so much happier, it's amazing the difference.

RGPargy · 29/05/2010 19:24

Hi Ria

When are you off next week? Hope things work out for you with DH. It's a stressful time isn't it. Thinking of you.

I think DP has finally seen the light re unhealthy eating etc. I had to more or less spell it out to him about how fatty and salty takeaways are and that the 1 or 2 glasses of wine most nights are not doing either of us any favours. I pointed out that all this gyming i am doing is just merely working off the takeaways we have each week and that's why i'm not losing any weight. He hasn't been to the gym for weeks now either and when he weighed himself the other day he was mortified that he was over 16 stone. I think that spurred him on to think properly about what he has been eating lately. Time will tell i suppose!

Have a nice weekend everyone.

Hi. Am bit narked but not surprised to have a gain this week, but haven't been walking or couting points, so my own fault. And have a summer-flu type bug that sadly doesn't take my appetite away.

Off to the Dales with my parents and the boys on Tiesday (if I decide we are going, but my kids and me feeling ill are not a good mix). Am very confused re DH moving back in, even though it is what we want part of me doesn't. Does that make sense?

Good luck with getting your DP on-side RG.

RGPargy · 30/05/2010 20:48

Sorry about your gain, Ria. Hardly any illnesses that i get take my appetite away either! Bummer isn't it!!

You must go away to the Dales. If you are going to see your parents then they can help you with the kids and you could hopefully have a proper recoup day in bed or something.....

I know exactly what you mean about DH moving back in. It's amazing how quickly you get into your own routine and into your own groove! Hope it works out for you tho.

Finally got to the gym this morning after a week off due to my allegedly dodgy kebab. Really enjoyed it but it deffo felt like i hadn't been for a week. Went and got some stuff for the garden at Homebase when i got home and DP and I (and DD!) spent the entire afternoon in the garden repairing the lawn, repotting plants and planting bulbs (probably far too late now, but hey ho!). I am REALLY aching from all that gardening now and i didn't think i was doing anything strenuous!

hi everyone, hope you are OK

another gain here, but it was a good holiday, just too much white bread...

back later, and back on WW tomorrow... tonight is treat night

Riaferdinandgonehome · 09/06/2010 22:37

grrr, where's my motivation gone???

RGPargy · 13/06/2010 13:13

Hi everyone!

Back from our hols and although i did lots of walking, i dont think i ate too cleverly. We drank every night and had a thing for peanut M&Ms every night too.

Back at the gym tomorrow and DP is on board with the healthy eating too. Yay!!

Holiday was fab. Lots of peace and quiet and countryside. Was fabbie waking up to fluffy bunnies on the acre grass out the back and watching the partidges and pheasants walking around on the grass too. Back to the car laden suburbs now tho, boo hiss!! I love the countryside - feels like i'm going back to my roots as it was all countryside when i was growing up.......

Hope you are well Ria!

OP posts:
Riaferdinandgonehome · 14/06/2010 16:23

Hi RG, welcome back. Glad you had a good time. I couldn't be away from the countryside I don't think.

trying to get back to it today, but there is gorgeous roast beef and homemade coleslaw in the fridge that DH brought from work, and it would be rude not to eat it, but I have been very good so far. And have spent the day mucking out DS1s bedroom, so I deserve a treat

need to cut back on the drink though we have done too much staying up far too late with wine and snacks

I bought a new pedometer to track my walking, but haven't been out yet, and am knackered from the cleaning today.

here we go then have a good week

RGPargy · 14/06/2010 22:05

Roast beef and coleslaw?? Mmmmm that's deffo too rude to leave!!

wine and nibbles is our curse too. Late at night. The worst time!!

Went back to the gym today and it was pretty hard going. Still, no pain and no gain and all that!!

Good luck with the pedometer - hopefully it'll encourage you to walk some more or something.... Might be worth getting one myself!

Do you live out in the country then? Must be lovely!

OP posts:
Riaferdinandgonehome · 15/06/2010 08:18

I live in a pretty big village (not nearly remote enough for my liking), but we are surrounded by countryside, and 5 mins away is the sea. It's almost perfect. I grew up on a farm outside the village. I would quite like being surrounded by vast open spaces of rolling hills or bleak moorland, so long as I could get my shopping delivered

did no walking yesterday, but didn't eat my beef and coleslaw as I fell asleep. Did consume wine though, as was talking to DS1 about his girlfriend and the necessary morals involved when you are only 13... (2 bricks!)

hope for a good day today

RGPargy · 16/06/2010 12:19

Your village sounds lovely Ria Glad you can talk to your DS1 about girlfriends and such! All my DS did at that age was grunt and say "for God's sake!" alot. Mind you, he still does that now and the only thing that gets him even remotely chatty is a couple of pints of beer!

OP posts:
Riaferdinandgonehome · 20/06/2010 18:26

thanks RG, apparently The League of Gentlemen is based on here

DS1 can be great, though sometimes it would be a lot easier if he just grunted!

Am relieved to have TOTM - I really didn't think I'd eaten that badly to have such a significant gain over the last 2 weeks. Didn't bother with the scales today as I was frantic getting ready for the family coming for lunch to celebrate DS3s birthday yesterday. We have been lucky with the weather, though the aged parents and my uncle stayed in the conservatory (my mother didn't go past the kitchen - I could have cleaned less), but the boys and their cousins could get outside and play on the trampoline.

Dsis will be cursing me though cos she ate loads (despite her offering to bring jacket spuds and salad so there was a "lighter choice" which pissed me off no end earlier in the week!)

Tomorrow is the last day of "party weekend" then it's back on the WW from Tuesday...

hope you (and any lurkers) are having a good weekend

RGPargy · 21/06/2010 20:52

Hehehe how funny re League of Gentlemen!

Is it wrong to be glad that your DSIS ate loads?? Mowahaha!!! Perhaps she expected you to blow out all the time with the food but as you didn't, she will probably be feeling gutted!

Good luck with getting back to WW tomorrow

Didn't have that grand a weekend really. DP went out for beers with his dad on Saturday night, but only at about 9pm, but came back a bit worse for wear which always makes him argumentative. This REALLY gets on my t*ts and i HATE it when he's like that. Needless to say we had a bit of a falling out saturday night along the lines of me huffing off to bed lol. He did apologise the next day but he didn't really know what he'd said to make me fuming with him (he made a comment about my DS). Didn't make it to the gym sunday morning either as i had quite severe bellyache caused by yet another takeaway. I have no idea what they are putting in curries and chicken kebabs these days but it always makes me double up! The meat is deffo cooked properly so with any luck i am now allergic to curry!

Managed to get to the gym today and a few of the girls i have been chatty with lately invited me along to their lunch today. We went to a local pub carvery which was lovely and DIRT cheap!! About £3.50 i think??! As they are all fitness freaks i didn't pile my plate up as much as i probably would have if i'd just been with DP, but it was nice not to feel stuffed after a meal hehe.

Sorry, seem to have gone off on a waffle-fest tonight!

Hope your day was nice!

OP posts:
Riaferdinandgonehome · 22/06/2010 09:48

maybe it's added fats or something in your takeaway? I react quite badly to cheesy garlic bread from our takeaway (tried a new one last night as our regular is closed), and also get quite hangover-ish from chinese sometimes, so I blame MSG or fat! Hope you are feeling better today.

Sorry about your DP. Men + drink + their Dads = arses (in our house too, though luckily DH not that keen on his Dad so it doesn't often happen). Hope that all sorted out soon too.

Your carvery sounds good. Nice to have new friends too. I aren't too comfortable with eating with people though.

Am giving GI Jeans another go this week, mainly cos I'm too tired to count points, I got weighed this morning and have STS for 2 weeks now, so that is good given what I've been eating!

Have to get on with some stuff today, there's masses of ironing lying in wait for me

Had a lovely day yesterday, though it was a bit hot. We did loads of walking. The boys (DH included) all wanted to go on a rowing boat though, so we now have a saving jar for another trip, maybe in August for DHs birthday.

RGPargy · 24/06/2010 14:56

DP reckons i am now intolerant to chicken, as it seems to happen when i've eaten chicken, regardless of whether i've had it via a takeaway or cooked it myself. I had a homemade chicken kebab the other night and ended up with serious wind issues (although no gripey pains!). I had lamb for dinner last night and although i had a tiny bit of wind, it was nowhere near as bad. I personally think i'm eating too many carbs, but DP thinks otherwise....

We're all sorted now, we (thankfully) always make up very quickly and all is normally forgotten within 24 hours.

Points counting IS tiring Ria. There is a girl here at work who has lost loads of weight with WW but even she admitted defeat to the points system and is just being careful what she eats and not counting points. We both agreed that pointing becomes a bloomin' obsession and well, there's more to life, isn't there?! Well done for staying the same! Good luck with GI Jeans!

Hope your ironing wasn't too dull. I hate it too and have had a mean little pile looking at me for a few days now. I keep ignoring tho but it's like a weed - it's keeps growing and growing!!

Had lunch with one of the girls from the gang at the gym yesterday (she has a DS who is just 1 year old, bless him). She seems very nice and it was lovely to sit and chat to someone whilst having a sarnie at the gym! Think we'll be doing lunch next Weds too so that'll be nice to do after swimming with DD!

Hope you're having a lovely day!

OP posts:
Riaferdinandgonehome · 25/06/2010 09:39

my Gran always used to say bad things about chicken in that respect!

walked to school with my pedometer on this morning, and found out the bloody thing had fallen off at home while DS3 was having tantrum! I think my efforts will be pretty feeble til after the football on Sunday, but if I'm healthy eating all day and walking, then cutting back on later evening munchies and drinks, it's a start. Am having pretty hideous TOTM pains and headaches etc (i suppose it might be down to the new implant) Am SO tired (again) and really can't face the weekend.

your lunches sound nice

lemontop · 29/06/2010 10:48

Hi ladies

Mind if I join your thread?

I've just signed up to Tesco diets and am going to be following the GI diet. I can't believe I've let myself get so huge. My weight has been increasing over the last few years but I'm at my biggest now. I've got a 9 month old baby and I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant so followed a GI diet then. I ate so healthily when pregnant I was lighter than I had been in years after giving birth, but have gained a stone and a half since having the baby and stopping BF!
We want to have another child in a year or so and want to make sure I'm as healthy as I can possibly be before we even think of TTC. DS was born at 34 weeks and although I don't know for sure that this was because I had GD I want to minimise the chances of getting it again. (DS was totally healthy btw!)

lemontop · 29/06/2010 10:50

I've got 5 stone to lose btw

Riaferdinandgonehome · 29/06/2010 22:10

hi lemontop, welcome to the thread

Riaferdinandgonehome · 01/07/2010 11:58

hi guys, hows it going?

the RC GI Jeans is not working out for me. walked 3.5miles on Sunday and 6.5 on the moors on Monday, and I cannot cope of the calories allowed for the first 2 weeks. You could not run a tank on the petrol a moped would use

back to WW I think, it is better for me ATM, and I did OK before... I know for a fact that I can't face SW again. It's a shame it's not viable to be walking 5/6 miles every day, but other stuff gets in the way!

for now I'm having chicken soup with corned beef baguette for lunch

RGPargy · 01/07/2010 15:28

Hi lemontop! Welcome!

Hi Ria!

Sorry i have been totally pants at coming on MN the last few days.

Ria you sound so much like me when it comes to sticking to diets. I want instant results and if it doesn't happen in a day, i lose interest and try and find another "Lose 10 stone in 1 day" diet. You do have to find a diet that you're happy with tho otherwise it never will work. Good luck with WW again!

I tried a body combat class on Sunday morning with one of my new gym buddies. I didn't like it at first but by about the middle of the class i was actually enjoying it! I am booked up for Zumba on Sunday so i will do body combat first and then Zumba. DP is not working away on monday night for the first time in about 2 months so i can finally get back to doing my Monday night step again!

Food-wise, we are all on a healthy eating binge. We ate some home grown new potatoes the other day and they were the best we'd ever tasted! Delicious!

I deffo want to lose a bit of weight between now and the end of August because my sister and I are going to visit my mum in Spain for a long weekend! I cant wait and want to look a bit slimmer than what i did when i last saw her 18 months ago when mum was over for DD's first birthday. Deffo some incentive there! Just gotta hear back from my DSis that she can find cover at work and then we'll book the flights. Yippee!!

OP posts:
Riaferdinandgonehome · 01/07/2010 17:14

sounds good RG, and a nice incentive too.

for once it wasn't the lack of "instant results" (though you are right that I suffer from that too), it truly is that I can't physically manage on 1,200 calories when I am burning x amount (bloody pedometer wasn't working properly or set for my weight, so I'm not sure exactly how many) DH made me a cuppa on Monday afternoon after the walk and an hour at the school fete, and I was shakin so much I couldn't drink it!

more stress today with a lovely phonecall from DS1s school, so I am having wine and chocolate and whatever else I fancy tonight . He threw a pot of glue out of a first floor window. He doesn't know why he did it. He is really intelligent, I just don't know what gets into him sometimes. I don't even know how to deal with it.

RGPargy · 02/07/2010 12:10

You shouldn't be on 1200 cals a day Ria!! No wonder you were shaking!! I would say, if you're roughly the same(ish) sort of weight as me, then you should be on about 1750 or 1800 cals, especially if you are exercising lots by doing all that walking! How about plain ol' calorie counting?

OP posts:
Riadingbetweenthelines · 02/07/2010 13:10

that's what I thought RG, the GI Jeans is based on a 2 week "kick start/fat buster" where it is approx 1,200/1,500 cal a day, then after the 2 weeks you add in more food equal to your BMR, which is approx 1,800 I think. And as you say, with the walking I did, I had probably burned off enough for me to be on half what i should really be having. So not sustainable (even for 2 weeks!) unless I just sleep all the time. Am not saying it's a bad diet, cos it does work, and it's pretty healthy (if you forget essential fats etc), but it's just not designed with people with a lot to lose in mind (and the people in the magazine are either saints or lying)

got to be counting of some kind. Points I think for now, will keep calories as my back up plan

RGPargy · 02/07/2010 14:55

Hmmm, i dont like these quick start things. Half the time it just means starving yourself which is not good for the metabolism or for the mind! Stick to your points (and how about counting cals too, just out of interest to find out how many you are allowed??) for now and see how you get on. Those kick start things are for people who are REALLY fat, i.e. they have half a stone to lose. You know the sort - the kind of people who try desperately to grab a fingertip full of skin fat whilst stating "eewww look at all my fat, i'm enormous", as they ease into their size 10s.....
