Hello Privet and shandyleer too

amazonianwoman · 26/02/2010 00:48

Hi pookey, and congratulations on number 3 Hope you are feeling well!

I'm impressed that you are still watching what you eat All I remember is
1st trimester = eat stodge;
2nd trimester = eat fairly normally apart from addiction to Walkers salt & vinegar crisps ;
3rd trimester = continue addiction but eat little after 5pm due to indigestion.

After 1st baby quickly reverted back to original weight (still overweight)
After 2nd baby ended up one stone lighter due to indigestion (still overweight though)

DS is 3 next month so I no longer have the post-baby weight excuse...

So 2.5 stone to go!

Tried porridge with skimmed milk today, ie carb meal with no fat. Was yuck. So different to with semi milk.

mrswill · 26/02/2010 13:43

Hi all,

Have had a sneaky weigh today, and Im now 9stone 10.5lb, which is 2lb off, and only 1.5 pound to my first stone.. Am very pleased with this, as Ive been on phase 1 but picking at all sorts of naughty things. Am going to continue phase 1 til monday now, and TRY and stop picking at chocolate, crisps etc.

Congrats Pookey! Hope you have an easy pregnancy. The only time ive ever lost weight without trying was during pregnancy, and ended up a lot thinner after birth than conception! If women could just bottle morning sickness we'd all be size 8.

Amazonian - put some cut up banana in your porridge, it'll taste MUCH better

pookey · 26/02/2010 16:51

amazonian unfortunately 1st trimester eat stodge is proving hard to resist...

Mrswill thats brill 9 stone something is the best feeling I lost weight with my second pregnancy but the need for chocolate is strong this time.

Amazonian you will prob get used to the porridge, agree banana is delish in porridge (reminds me must get some for myself) also you could try adding some ground seeds (is allowed) and cinamon.

Trying to make one of the spicy lentil rice dishes for dinner tonight ... kids will be pleased.

amazonianwoman · 26/02/2010 18:18

Good idea re banana, cinnamon & seeds - gave in and had semi skimmed milk today Will try your suggestions this weekend.

Weighed this morning. 1.5lbs off, so total lost in almost 2 weeks is 7.5lbs.

2 stone 6lbs to go...

TheYearOfTheCat · 27/02/2010 12:44

Congrats Pookey!

Well done MrsWill & Amazonianwoman.

I was 80.4kg this morning. I feel like I have hit a plateau. I would love to get out on my new bike, but I have been laid up with a flu-like illness this week. Looking after kids when sick is sooooo hard.

vezzie · 01/03/2010 07:33

Congratulations, pookey!

Well done mrswill! You are inspiration - I will try to have a good week.

Weigh in - 10 10 - after a disastrous weekend - guests, food, booze.

But don't expect me to stay off the canapes at the mn party tomorrow!

mrswill · 01/03/2010 19:56

Thank you very much vezzie, however much I try though, I just cant stop picking at naughty food, am sure it would come off a lot faster if I did. Well done on losing a pound!

Even though I weighed on thurs, I had a weigh today, and Im 9stone 10lb. I did have a jolly on the weekend though and got completely pissed up, and couldnt eat all day on saturday, as well as being mortified by my own antics!

Back on phase 1 this week, and exercising, as have a civil partnership to go to in a months time, and the gay men going are all very svelte and good looking, so there is no way Im being the chunky one in the pics.

Am going for 2lb by next week. What mn party is this then? [nosy]

vezzie · 02/03/2010 09:24

Hello mrswill - you are storming ahead! You will look fab at the civil partnership - have you got an outfit?

The party is the mn 10th birthday one - 10 people who wrote haikus got an invitation. So I get to meet the legends of MNHQ!

TheYearOfTheCat · 02/03/2010 22:23

Ooooh, how exciting Vezzie! You must let us know how it was.

Have had a good day today, although I currently have a glass of red beside me - rubbish day at work .

At the moment my weight is going in the wrong direction.

PrivetDancer · 05/03/2010 11:27

congratulations pookey! that's fab news!

we've decided to start trying for number 2 recently too, and I am determined not to put on loads of weight this time. Whether that resolve sticks if i do get pg is another matter. My first pregnancy I ate at least one cake a day for the whole time, graduating to cream cakes by the end..

I'm still going on WW, lost 2lb this week but stayed same last week, so slowly slowly, but it's better than nothing. My boss at work noticed I've lost weight the other day which was nice.

mrswill you can't have much left to lose?

mrswill · 09/03/2010 21:31

Have lost 3lb this week, chuffed to bits. Am now down to 9st 7lb, so have 11lb left to go to reach 8st 10lb, wgich is what I think I look best at.

Not sure what Im going to wear at the civil partnership, but if im 9stone, it not going to be very much .

Have you been to the MN party yet Vezzie?

mrswill · 17/03/2010 19:38

Where are you all!

Have lost a pound this week, so am now 9st 6lb. The only thing that is keeping me off the chips and curry sauce is the thought of getting into my party outfit in 3 weeks time. Have you all defected to WW

vezzie · 17/03/2010 21:30

Haven't dared show my face round here cos I've been stuffing my face like a right porker.
Happy St Patrick's Day, everyone.

Congratulations, mrswill. You are an inspiration!

I am not sure I am going to get where I need to be with Zoe Harcombe. I am kind of bored now and I don't think I want to eat anything in her recipe book, still less persuade DP to. Hmmmm

A bit panicky at the moment actually

TheYearOfTheCat · 18/03/2010 22:34

I've been lurking too. I think I'm back on track after a bit of a blip. I displayed amazing willpower today. Very proud.

Going skiing next week!

Well done MrsWill.

PrivetDancer · 19/03/2010 16:22

well i'm pregnant now too, and my thoughts of sticking to the diet were soon wafted away by cakes

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 21/03/2010 21:51

righto am thinking of doing the harcombe thing as have been low carbing for a while and harcombe seems healthier in the long term (although the spectacular drop-off rate suggests not).

what are your best tips, ladies?

TheYearOfTheCat · 21/03/2010 22:22

Buy and read the book.

From this thread - Yorkshire decaf tea(with a tiny splash of skimmed milk). Coconut oil for cooking with.

I love the fact you can eat berries and cream!

Enjoy!

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 21/03/2010 22:29

i've got it, and the recipes book.

tell me why you think that so many people haven't stuck to it, if you don't mind?

mrswill · 22/03/2010 21:34

Ive stayed the same this week, its the time of the month though, so tend to stay the same anyway.

Hi Lesinge,I have stuck to harcombe diet as I find its what I generally eat anyway, just with lots of milk chocolate and crisps on top of the healthy stuff in the old days. If you are not used to the food, and cooking lots though it can become quite tiresome! I do generally cheat now and again i have to say, and that does make a difference to your weight loss, I dont feel the diet 'tolerates' many cheats, and it quickly shows on the scales. I do think it is a good diet, but like all diets, it can get boring. the weight tends to come off quickly in the first few weeks, which is a nice boost though.

LeSingeEstDansLarbre · 23/03/2010 18:31

see, apart from the wholewheat thing it does look like what i eat anyway, or used to eat and have forgotten i liked, iykwim? i thought the recipe book looked good.

vezzie · 29/03/2010 22:29

Hello, Lesinge.

Hello everyone else... I am sneaking shame-facedly back in - if I am allowed...

CONGRATULATIONS privet!

Lesinge - why is it hard to stick to? - in my case, because of the food combining rules. It is counter intuitive not to be able to snack on fruit. And if you are used to dieting by eating as small meals as possible on the basis that you can stave off disaster if necessary with an apple in a couple of hours, then you feel lost and desperate when you are starving and can't eat the apple. And... no-carb recipe s, other than the ones that are so simple you already know them and they are not really recipes, can be more minging than anything on earth.

Having said all that I need a diet something like this, it was a revelation to me, and I think the fruit I used to rely on was not all that good for me and I had (have?) blood sugar problems that contribute to my fatness. But I wonder if there is something like this but without the food combining. It just feels inconvenient and faddy and snake-oily never to have, say, egg on toast ever again.

So - slightly half-arsedly but in the absence of anything better - once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more...

mrswill · 30/03/2010 15:58

Hello Vezzie!!

An congrats privet!

I proper got back on the horse these last 2 weeks, especially as i have my friends engagement on sat and i NEED to fit into my playsuit. Well,..... after exercising and starving for 3 months, it is on, and it fits!
Admittedly Im eating nothing but fat meals for the next few days and exercising like mad to look reasonably good in it.

Are you going back on phase 1 vezzie? I have been for the last week or so, but the greek yogurt and milky tea has been creeping in. Agree why its hard to stick to, the no snacking thing is hard going. By the time you can eat, Im so starving, I pick at naughty things. Ive worked out its better for me to have about 2 big meals - breakfast and tea, with 2 small meals - dinner and a snack. Either that or I will cheat constantly. The diet has helped me to have better food choices, but I cant wait to have toast with butter again. But like you say in the absence of anything better and already bought expensive clothes causing me guilt, we must press on...

FrazzledBlob · 30/03/2010 17:50

Hello

I am having a look at this plan as I am currently low carbing but have come a cropper with gallstones.

I wondered if anyone could let me know what the fat consumption was like on this and if anyone vegetarian has had success following it?

I am going to try and have a look at the books in the library before ordering them as I'm not sure what i can do now with gallstones.

mrswill · 30/03/2010 20:41

Hi Frazzled,

Shame about the gallstones, very painful Ive heard. Poor you!

Ive been doing the harcombe diet for around nearly 3 months and lost a fair bit of weight, so it does actually work.

Phase 1 is the 'detox' for 5 days. If your a veggie, you would be allowed eggs and tofu as your protein, along with unlimited veg and salad and natural yogurt, herbs and spices. You can also have brown rice, although it is limited. Im part of a harcombe diet club, and Zoe Harcombe has been revising the diet, and now porridge oats are alllowed on phase 1, but only 50gram. I used to be a vegetarian, and much prefer veggie food, and had quite a few veggie days on phase 1. Made a lot of nice omellettes, and tofu curries etc.

On Phase 2, you are still allowed the above, but now you have to food combine. No fats and proteins mixed with carbs. You could have a steak with peppercorn sauce and salad, strawberries and cream etc on a 'fat' meal, and have something like a hummous sandwich, or chips baked in olive oil, pasta with low fat sauce, or lentils and beans on a 'carb' meal. You can make it as fatty or not as fatty as you want. Even if you are having say a broccoli and cauliflower cheese bake, which is a 'fat' meal, you could use very low fat alternatives. In the book, zoe says you can do this for helath reasons if you want, but you dont have to.

Since following phase 2. Ive had a lot of carb meals, as I prefer vegetarian dishes. So Ive had lots of dhals, bean stew, veggie curries with tofu and beans etc. I tend toward the carb meals that still contain protein. But the fat in these are less. I do love fish though, and they are a fat meal, so I do a lot of fishcakes and fish pie with a cheesy sauce, so if you eat fish, it sis a great diet plan.

You can use the low fat alternatives if you want, even with the fat meals.

I hope this has explained it a bit. Any other questions, fire away!

P.s i still eat a lot of nuts, left over from my veggie days, and it doesnt seem to have effected my weight loss much.
