Hello all!

Yes Privet - the weigh in, in boots is a bit shameful. The first time I did it, I nearly died with embarassment. When you get on the scales, a loud booming voice comes from the machine, 'MEASURING YOUR WEIGHT AND HEIGHT!', and it gives a nice long pause for people to look at the fat shortarse (me) getting weighed. Then booms out again 'MEASURING YOUR BODY FAT!'. Along with other commands like 'STAND UPRIGHT!'. The shame does get easier to bear though.

Vezzie - What was your DD like when you picked her up? Did she seem happy? It can take them a while to feel settled in I suppose. DD did cry all day with my mother one day. Perhaps wait and see if it was a one off type of thing. Its good that your cm was honest with you though.

How is everyone else doing? Has anyone had any slip ups?
I aint fessin up first....

vezzie · 21/01/2010 23:11

Hi!

Feeling a bit better today because dd was better at the CM's. She was ok when I went to get her, tho the CM was holding her and it looks like she was pretty actively playing with her and distracting her. I hope it can only get better - but she only goes there 2 days a week, next time will be next Wednesday so I hope we don't go back to square 1.

Anyway she is all mine (& her daddy's) till Monday - hurray!

Thanks for asking, privet and mrswill, and sorry to go on about this. I think it killed the thread

mrswill - yes, slip ups here: 3 glasses of wine tonight in celebration of finishing my first week at work (working mon-thur for now). It nearly killed me at points but we did it! I say we because DP and dd kept me going, bless them both.

How are you all?

that weigh in thing sounds well sci fi - I am tempted to go into town tomorrow to have a go.

PrivetDancer · 22/01/2010 11:40

oh glad she was happier yesterday, sounds like you have a nice CM, have a lovely weekend!

I weighed in this morning and have lost 4lbs this week! Quite shocked, but I have had a cold and lost my appetite completely for a few days (only ate a bit of fruit and cheese yesterday) so will be surprised if it stays off when appetite returns!

I'm also going out tomorrow night and the only veggie option is not particularly harcombe friendly, so I supposed I'll be pleased if I manage to maintain this week.

I finally got my exercise bike and it tells me my body fat is 39.6% so will be good to see that going down.

pookey · 23/01/2010 20:43

right, just finished antibiotics, period, 2 bars of choc so back on board. gained 2 lbs this week, I cant seem to manage controlled cheating. Mrs will my slip ups are too numerous to mention.

What phases are people doing and what conditions are you being careful for is anyone assuming all 3 and successfuly following phase 2?

Well done privet dancer for weight loss and well done vezzie for getting through 1st week back at work.

shandyleer · 24/01/2010 01:53

Hi all, just catching up. Well done Vezzie on getting through your first week back, I hope you're having a lovely relaxing weekend. And Privet, congratulations on your 4lbs, that's brilliant. It does seem a bit quiet here, I wonder if everyone else is still going strong?

I kind of gave up this week - after hearing on Tuesday that ds was being referred to a cardiologist I sort of lost the plot a bit. I truly thought the doc would say that his ecg was fine so when she said he needed referring I went into full on panic mode - and sadly I am one of those people who turns to food, and not away from it, when I'm upset. Anyway, have calmed down now and will start properly again on Monday.

Good luck to you Pookey, and to everyone else. Hope we all have a successful week.

vezzie · 24/01/2010 20:05

Shandyleer - I am sure your ds will be fine and they are just doing their best. I am not surprised you lost the plot a bit. I hope you are feeling a bit steadier now and are looking after yourself properly.

Hi pookey - it's an up and down process, isn't it!

Privet - well done!

I am not feeling great, nasty virus thing struck today. Not sure if I can be bothered to weigh in tomorrow morning as I don't feel as if I have lost anything and don't feel like getting bad news. It might be better just to give it a couple more days and stay hopeful...

pookey, in answer to your question, I am doing phase 1 and more concerned with hypoglycaemia than any of the others. I don't think I have food intolerances and I think I did have candida but not any more. To tell the truth the thing I should really steer totally clear of as it definitely is for the the world's most moreish thing is booze. But I am having wine at weekends and I am pretty sure it is the biggest obstacle to my weight loss. Time to faced up to this.

Hope you are all feeling well and have a good week everyone.

PrivetDancer · 24/01/2010 21:39

Thanks guys

shandy, sorry to hear about your ds. Do they have any idea what might be the problem?

Well I made the most of my meal out last night. Started off determined to be good but after a tiny starter devoured a load of bread and butter, and ended up having a dessert (choc brownie) too! At least I was driving, so avoided the wine. 2lbs heavier this morning, but hopefully that will quickly shift again.

Appetite back today, currently baking some 'chips', have covered them in olive oil though - not sure that is right..

vezzie · 25/01/2010 07:14

Morning all

Weigh in: 10 st 12 lb (3 lb loss)

Have a good week, everyone

BadMutha · 25/01/2010 08:46

Morning! Have stayed the same this week (too ashamed to tell you the actual number!). The main cause was an accidental pizza on Friday and too much wine this weekend. However, have learned that eating pizza makes me feel awful (like I've swallowed a lead weight that won't shift!), so maybe that helps.
Will be more sensible this week.
Good luck all!

mrswill · 25/01/2010 14:13

Well done Vezzie!

I havent weighed yet, and got my period this morning, so feel 'heavier'. Think it'll only be a pound this week for me, as I just cant stop picking between meals, a bit of toast, a few crisps here and there. Am considering doing phase 1 again, just so I can get under 10 stone and have a boost.

Its good that they're being through with your son Shandyleer, that they're taking it seriously. It must be a worrying time for you all.

Will post back when I see the scales, very nervous!

mrswill · 25/01/2010 19:47

Well, Ive lost 2lb this week, which Im amazed about.

Im also coming down with a cracking bout of sickness thats been going round my family for a few days, I never get ill so tend to take it very badly . At least it'll mean a few pounds off next week!

It seems like everyones downfall is the wine!

vezzie · 25/01/2010 19:50

Well done mrswill! Did the booming voice measure your fat again?

Have to go to a trade show tomorrow and the day after which will mean having to buy lunch, this could all go wrong. Focus. Focus.

mrswill · 25/01/2010 20:11

The booming voice informed me I had lost weight again shouting at me to grip handles to measure bodyfat as I forgot- right infront of a gang of college girls, who were all skinny and immaculate looking. Not that I was particularly bothered, as I was trying to stop DD pulling all the timmy time stuff off the shelves.

What is it with teenage girls these days, they're all so stunning, put togther and slightly intimidating. When I was 17, I didnt have a clue about fashion, or haircuts, and looked very much like a mouse. Part of my job, sometimes involves going into schools to support some project or other, and the difference between the boys and girls is striking. The boys look their age, and the girls look like supermodels. I cant remember my form class like that at all, maybe women are getting prettier. Wonder what its going to be like when DD is 16/17. God I sound old.

Anyway, Ive lost 2.2lb of body fat too. Not that im boasting or nuffin just thought you may like to be fully informed.

TheYearOfTheCat · 25/01/2010 21:31

Hi all, I'm back from my trip. It's true that absence makes the heart grow fonder - DH has been very lovely to me since I got back. I found sticking to this when away from home quite challenging, and have to admit to a danish pastry, 2 puddings and a bit of wine . I was 82.6kg this morning, so 0.6kg on. (Although it could have been worse I suppose).

MrsWill, I know exactly what you mean about young'uns today. All the ones I know also seem to be so emotionally mature, and able to hold proper grown up conversations. That's not how I remember myself when I was 17.

Hope everyone else has a good week.

PrivetDancer · 29/01/2010 12:47

well I've put on a pound this week

really fed up actually. I went out for the meal last saturday, but straight back on diet sunday and been good ever since. Have been 3lb up most of the week, so at least it's only a 1lb net gain by today, but does not seem fair that one night off can do so much damage! Have been on exercise bike every evening too. Considering going back to weight watchers, but I will give it another week.

I just don't seem to have the patience for these things when it doesn't go to plan, last week I had lost 10lb in 3 weeks and would have recommended to anybody, now my stats are 9lbs in 4 weeks and I don't feel like I'm getting anywhere!

TimeForMe · 29/01/2010 19:28

Privetdancer Have a read of this, it might explain your weight fluctuations low-carb-news.blogspot.com/2010/01/why-scales-lie.html

PrivetDancer · 29/01/2010 21:15

Wow thanks TimeForMe. That's really interesting. Actually my exercise bike says I've lost 1% body fat so there might well be something in it!

I really need to stop being obsessed by the scales, but it really is all I judge success on.

mrswill · 29/01/2010 22:44

Hi privetdancer - also measure yourself. When I used to run and train loads - years ago - I tended to measure my waist, hips etc in cm so I could pinpoint where Id lost. Id still used to feel gutted when I hadnt lost anything or put on though, so I know how you feel.

Am still doing alright on the diet - although Im still picking, and had a massive slice of chocolate cake in work the other day, so god knows what the scales will come up with on monday. Have started running back up, so am hoping to some sort of loss.

TheYearOfTheCat · 31/01/2010 19:45

Hi all,
81.2kg yesterday, so 1.4 kg off. I must say I feel great - I don't miss tea, booze, bread or sugar! I honestly never thought I would ever say this.

I hope it lasts. Hope your running goes well MrsWill - I used to, but it's too cold and difficult for me . I bought a bike and child trailer on Saturday, so I'm hoping to do a bit of cycling. I don't actually get them until next week.

Hope you all have a good week.

PS - chicken tarragon from the recipe book is delicious!

vezzie · 01/02/2010 09:40

Weigh in this morning ? 10st 10lb which is a 2lb loss. I am extremely pleased with this as I haven?t really been toeing the Harcombe line over the past 3 days. And I spent a lot of the weekend in bed. Not feeling great.
Hope things are ok with you Shandyleer. I wouldn?t be surprised if a diet was the last thing on your mind at the moment. All best to you and your family.

Everyone else ? have a good week.

shandyleer · 01/02/2010 18:29

Hi everybody, sorry for not being around much over the last week or so, been ill and managed to share my germs with all 4 dc's. Ds has an appointment with the cardiologist on Feb 16th, so hopefully he'll receive the all-clear and all will be back to normal again. Thank you so much to everyone for your good wishes.

Vezzie, MrsWill and TheYearOfTheCat, congratulations on your losses, how much have you lost in total now? Privet, I got a bit despondent too, as after my initial first 5-day loss of 7lbs, each week after that has been only 1lb. Still that's better than it would have been and that article TimeForMe linked to was enlightening.

I've been lurking on that thread in Style and Beauty about spending more wisely, and its kind of kept me in line with regards to sticking to the plan, cos I'm imagining all the new clothes I would like to buy once I've lost (lots) more weight (haven't worked out yet where the money for planned spending will come from ...). And on Wednesday I'm starting the Home Start course, which I'm really looking forward to, so hopefully more things to distract me from the lure of the evil chocolate (which I'm still craving sadly). Is anyone else still craving anything or is it just me thinking forbidden thoughts?

Hope everyone's still doing well, and have a good week everyone. Oh yes, got the recipe book back (finally) from my neighbour, but in the meantime I had borrowed a friend's copy of the India and Neris recipe book - some nice sounding recipes in there (but haven't tried any yet).

mrswill · 01/02/2010 20:54

Hello all! Welldone vezzie and Shandyleer!

Ive lost 1lb this week, which takes me down to just under 9st 13lb, so am chuffed to bits as my first goal was to get under 10stone. Ive lost 9lb in total now shandyleer, 4lb in the first week and 5lb the following weeks. I dont mean to boast (well maybe i do [wink)), Im already starting to get comments 'have you lost weight'. And i havent even had to drop hints I dont mind losing a pound a week now, as Im enjoying the diet, and not feeling particularly deprived. Im still craving chocolate, but Ive been eating a good few squares of dark chocolate everynight, so that usually takes care of it!

Is anyone managing to do any exercise? Ive started doing dvds, and jumping rope, and am going on runs. I NEVER thought id say this, but im getting quite addicted to it, and was twitching tonight as it is my rest day. Very weird.....

TheYearOfTheCat · 01/02/2010 21:36

I've lost 5.6kg in total. (12lb)

My DH has started now as well, as he has seen how much weight I have lost and how good I feel. He is on day 3 today, but beginning to feel a bit rough. I've also got my sister doing it too! I wonder would Zoe consider paying a small commission?

vezzie · 02/02/2010 12:59

Hi all

Well done mrswill - have you tried on your size 10 playsuit again recently?

Shandyleer - get well soon to you and all dcs. I have lost 9lb since this thread started this year, or about 18lb since October 09 (I say "about" as I never weighed myself at my peak fatness - I dieted for a couple of weeks before getting the scales).

mrswill · 04/02/2010 13:35

Thats a lot of weight vezzie!

I didnt weigh for a week either when starting dieting, was too scared to get on the scales.

I have tried on my playsuit and it doesnt fit yet, but I can actually get it on, reckon it'll be another stone before it would look good on me.

Has everyone seen the recipe for pizza on The harcombe diet page on Facebook. It looks very good, and different from the usual - meat plus vegetable dishes on fat meals. Not sure it'll allow a link, but will try and cut and paste it.

Hope it all goes well for you shandyleer
