I'm interested in having a look at this diet but can't work out which book to get from Amazon. There just seems to be a recipe book. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thx

BadMutha · 17/01/2010 21:06

Hi and welcome MollieO. You need this one and the recipe book will be useful too.
FYI all I tried the felafel recipe again but did it with a tablespoon of dried parsley instead of 50g of fresh and it was much, much better.
A bit anxious about weighing tomorrow morning as this wil be end of week 2. Hoping for a loss, as jeans feel a bit looser but who knows?

MollieO · 17/01/2010 21:22

Thx for that BadMutha. Have ordered both. I need to do something this year to finally be the weight I want .

mrswill · 17/01/2010 21:46

Well done pooket and TYOTC and Timeforme!

thank you!

TimeforMe - maybe a very stupid question, but does the coconut oil taste like coconut. Are you following that Idiot proof guide that Neris and India knight have written?, how are you finding it?

Privetdancer - I think I have candida, and have for quite a while. I had problems with thrush during breastfeeding, and also problems with it elsewhere . Since Ive been on this diet, it has completly cleared up. I did snort quite a bit when reading the Harcombe stuff about Candida, Intolerance, and that Hyper thing she talks about. It sounded like excuses skinny Hollywood stars make, to avoid food. But I think shes onto something. I havent been to the chemist to get Canestan since Ive been on it, which used to be a weekly thing.

I think its me and Vezzie that are weighing tomorrow. Dont worry Vezzie, I havent been brilliant either, and seem to have slipped into picking at things again, like DD's crisps, sneaky bites of toast. As long as the majority is ok, we should lose.

Is anyone doing any exercise or DVDs yet? Am tempted to get a personal trainer once a week with my cousin to really put me through the mill, but havent summoned up the guts to go for it yet. My friend has a very attractive male one, but i dont think i could subject a stunner to the sight of my wobbly arse. Neither would I like a perky female. Think it'll have to be a very gay male trainer .

mrswill · 17/01/2010 21:49

Sorry, welcome MollieO!

Ive just noticed you BadMutha are weighing in tomorrow too, good luck. Am anxious too, what if the scales say sweet FA, total gutter. Am only consuming NLY for brekkie tomorrow in hope the scales say I am 5lb lighter!

PrivetDancer · 17/01/2010 22:34

I was wondering what the coconut oil tasted like too

I've not been doing any exercise so far, but have an exercise bike being delivered this week, at last, so full of plans to use it every night in front of the telly!

TimeForMe · 18/01/2010 06:49

hi mrswill yes, I am following the pig to twig diet and I am loving it. I did try the harcombe diet but found phase one a bit too restrictive plus, I couldn't get my head round being able to eat NLY freely and brown rice, both of which are quite carby.

I've lost 8lb in 10 days on pig to twig and I have no carb cravings whatsoever, its brilliant. I am even able to bake cakes without wanting to eat half with mixture I'm not even tempted to lick my fingers. I'm amazed at how well low carbing works, my apetite has really reduced.

As for the coconut oil, the brand I have does have a very pleasant coconut smell and there is a slight taste when you cook with it but its not unpleasant, I made an omelette yesterday and could taste the coconut. Personally, I quite like it straight off the spoon, its like creamed coconut and reminds me of the middle of a bounty.

BadMutha · 18/01/2010 08:03

Weigh-hey!
2kg lost this week, making total loss of 3kg in 2 weeks AND I'm sitting here eating bacon and eggs as I type this. Doesn't seem possible!
Only about a squillion kg to go, but feeling positive today.
Hope Vezzie and MrsWill have happy news too?

vezzie · 18/01/2010 09:15

Hi all

Well done badmutha!

No loss here

I blame the wine. But - it has cancelled out all the times I was following the diet strictly...

I am tempted to go back on phase 1 but really I need need need a diet that I can follow in the long term and not be ravening the whole time. I hoped this was it.

Maybe I should read the book again and check whether I was following it properly (except the wine). Or maybe I should just give it another go for a couple of weeks back at work to see what happens when I am out of the house, etc.

Good luck to all the others with a Monday weigh in, I hope you have done better than me!

Bessie123 · 18/01/2010 09:20

Hi, I haven't read the whole thread but just wanted to give my (brief) experience of this. I was inspired to try this diet by the previous thread on mn. I found it really difficult and only managed 3 days, during which time I lost nothing at all. I couldn't face sticking at it any longer and still losing nothing. It didn't work for me at all although I only had just under a stone to lose so maybe the weight wouldn't have come off so fast?

TimeForMe · 18/01/2010 10:07

Well Done Badmutha!

Vezzie, why don't you have a look at the Neris and India diet? I struggled with the Harcombe plan too but am finding this one a doddle! I could stay on phase one forever! It's not as restrictive as the Harcombe diet, I'm loving it!

mrswill · 18/01/2010 13:43

Hi Vezzie,

Big hugs (I know - not allowed on MN )
Its horrible when you put effort in with a diet and then a day of nice grub spoils it all. Ive been there many times, the sinking feeling when you stay the same! Maybe shift your thinking about this week, and see it as just a maintaining week as you've had more wine and cheats, not an actively losing week. Hope that doesnt sounds patronising btw, just want to make you feel better. We're all going to have blips along the way, you'll probably be typing this sort of thing out to one of us in the next few weeks. Or if the diet isnt working for you, try the India one, its about whatever works for you. Best of luck for tomorrow too, hope the return isnt too hard for you.

Well done BadMutha!

Ive lost 2.5lb this time, but have also been monitoring fat loss as Ive been exercising and I dont want to lose muscle. So Ive lost nearly 4lb's of fat in the last 11 days, which im chuffed to bits about, and didnt even think possible.

Got to go and make more food for tonight too, never thought id say it, but am sick of cooking!

vezzie · 18/01/2010 20:04

Thanks mrswill. Really appreciate it.
Not looking forward to tomorrow. A bit tearful actually.
Had a classic comfort eating impulse in sainsburys feeling so sad about sending dd to the childminder, I found myself eying up all kinds of lard. Didn't go for it tho.

Hope you are all having a good week.

shandyleer · 18/01/2010 20:24

Hi all, and welcome to all newcomers.

Vezzie, don't be disheartened, I know its so easy to think "oh, this isn't working, I might just as well give up and eat what I want" - but try and remember all the reasons you started this in the first place, and hopefully you'll feel strong again. And it may be that this week you lose nothing, next week you lose two or three pounds. Haven't got the book to hand just now but I think I remember Zoe saying something like the weight loss can vary dramatically especially at first. And good luck for tomorrow, hope it goes well.

Mrswill, badmutha and timeforme, congratulations on your losses, that's so encouraging to hear!

Yotc, I've been drinking Yorkshire decaff too, it's surprisingly ok isn't it?

I got derailed totally at the weekend so feeling cross with myself today. I made the aubergine boat recipe thing for tea tonight. Zoe says its impressive enough to serve at a dinnerparty, I say not on your nellie! Twas ok, but wouldn't bother again I don't think. Good luck for the next few days everyone.

TheYearOfTheCat · 18/01/2010 21:25

Well done Mrs Will & BadMutha.

Vezzie - don't be down - I lost 2 stone last year (and kept it off), but I could tell you every 0.2kg as it came off. It was veeery slow and steady, and there was loads of time when I felt I wasn't getting anywhere.

Good luck for tomorrow. (My 2 DC go to a CM when I work, and they adore her - in fact I suspect they have a better time than at home ).

I am going to be away with work this week, so I won't be on the internet, and it will be interesting to see how I get on with eating away from the comfort and convenience of my own kitchen. Will do a Sunday weigh in.

Hope this week goes well for all.

mrswill · 18/01/2010 22:32

Damn, will have to get that Yorkshire Tea!

Good luck with the week away TYOTC.

Was also considering the aubergine boat-but dont think I will now... I sometimes think Zoe harcombe has got completely different tastebuds to me.

Vezzie - be gentle with yourself tomorrow, and dont feel bad if you need to cry or feel very emotional. It'll be worse on you than your DD. And the first time you leave them to go to work is the worst, it gets better after that. I remember my stomach used to be all tangled up when I was in work thinking of DD, when I would pick her up, she'd cry to go back in! It does get better with time.

TimeforMe - what sort of things do you eat on this india and neris diet? Is it similar to harcombe?

TimeForMe · 19/01/2010 08:19

Yes Mrswill it is very similar but no brown rice and no natural live yoghurt both of which are quite heavy in carbs. I did have a go at the harcombe diet but found it very restrictive and it made me miserable. I am finding the Neris and India diet much easier. Had a sneaky jump on the scales yesterday and I've lost a pound since Friday so, despite all the creamy sauces and the cheese it IS working!! Also, this is the first time in my life I haven't craved sugar, it's amazing.

Another thing that bothered me a bit about the Harcombe plan is that because it is so restrictive in phase one there is a possibility of gaining back some of the weight in phase two once other foods are introduced.

Has anybody else noticed a difference in their skin? I have noticed a dramatic change in the skin on my hands especially, they are lovely and smooth and a lot less wrinkly!! Am watching the turkey neck for signs of improvement now!

TimeForMe · 19/01/2010 08:20

Good luck for today Vezzie. I hope everything goes well for you.

PrivetDancer · 19/01/2010 15:09

Mrswill - how have you been measuring how many lbs of fat you've lost?

Vezzie I hope today went ok, I bet you'll be happy to get home again tonight

I'm in a bad mood today, new exercise bike was supposed to be delivered this morning, but I have rung to see where it is and apparently they couldn't find it this morning ?! And now it's too late to send out today apparently. Stupid city link.

mrswill · 19/01/2010 17:49

Hi Privet,

I weigh in boots, with an all singing all dancing type of scales which tells you body fat percentage, an how many kilos of fat you have. I was 22kg of fat one week an 20kg of flab 11 days later.

Timeforme - sounds interesting, especially if I hit a plateau!

HOw did today go vezzie?

BadMutha · 19/01/2010 18:02

Hi All

To Vezzie and others fretting about small losses, have a read of what Zoe herself says about weight fluctuation etc on her website here. I found it quite reassuring and feel stronger about staying away from the scales. There's quite a lot of other useful stuff on the site too: have a rummage?
Feeling proud of self now: DD was beside herself when fetched from school as her ToxicLittleFriend has been quasi-bullying her , so took her and DS to a cafe for a treat to cheer her up (will tackle teacher in the morning). Kids had huge cakes and I resisted , which I couldn't have done before. Had some strawberries and cream instead and felt smug. Then got shouted at all the way home for not buying DD a teddy she'd seen in the shop... But we must take our comforts where we can!
Hope everyone's having a good day.

vezzie · 19/01/2010 21:50

Hi all, thanks for the good wishes for today! It was nice to see them when I sneakily peeped at lunchtime, I also had a lovely text from my brother so felt well supported.
It was ok, not too bad, and as you all said it was so exciting to see dd at the end of the day. She was shattered tho, it is a really long day for her between when I get her up to feed her and get home to feed her again. Bless her, she is so gorgeous.

Turkey salad for lunch and wholemeal pasta with tomato sauce for dinner. All in order - just have to make it a routine and not be all "well I deserve a treat now I am working...."

Badmutha, thanks for that link - very reassuring.

Hope all is going well for all of you. I have to say I agree with mrswill when she says she wonders if zoe harcombe has the same taste buds... some of the recipe book ideas are a little.... odd.

PrivetDancer · 19/01/2010 22:05

Ooh I don't think i'm brave enough to weigh myself in boots

glad it wasn't too bad vezzie! Have you got a holiday to look forward too?

vezzie · 20/01/2010 20:56

Shhhhhhhh... very quiet here. Where is everyone?

dd cried for 2 and a half hours this afternoon at the CM. I am gutted, that is such a long time for a little person to be upset, she hasn't cried for anything like that long since she was 6 weeks old. Don't know what to do. Is this normal in the early days?

Bad lunch: soup with (white) udon noodles
good supper: ham salad

Hope you are all doing ok? Have you all gone off to a low carb thread or something?

PrivetDancer · 21/01/2010 13:24

2 and a half hours is a long time to cry, nothing the cm could do to stop her? Was she ok when you picked her up?
I'm afraid I don't really know what is normal, have only got dd to go by, and what the nursery tell me. Tbh if she had cried for that long I doubt they would have told me, so at least when your cm says she's had a good day, you'll know she means it!

How old is she? If she's old enough to realise you're not there or that things are different then I can understand her getting upset, and hopefully she'll soon realise the new arrangements are ok and you always come back to get her
I think you need to give it at least a couple of weeks before even thinking about other options, although I know it's heartbreaking.
