Hi all,
I was 79kg this morning, so another 2.2kg (4.8lb) off .

I tripped and fell on Friday, and although I tried to break my fall, my face bore the brunt of it. I spent all day yesterday at casualty, and now I look like something from the hammer house of horrors . I don't think it is going to scar, but the Dr said it would look really grim for about 2 weeks, and could take 2-3 months for it to be back to normal. I think I will try to stay low for a couple of weeks, and hopefully I can work from home. I have been sporting dark shades and a peaked cap today.

I was really beginning to enjoy hearing everyone say that I looked fantastic. I met an old friend last night, and she said I looked fantastic apart from my face! She meant it in a good way though.

MrsWill I haven't seen the pizza recipe, but I can recommend the red pepper soup, although I added goats cheese as well.

Hope everyone has a good week.

vezzie · 08/02/2010 07:28

Well done, TYOTC. Sorry about your face - I am sure you look very sexy and mysterious all covered up though.

Monday weigh in: 10st 8lb, which is a 2lb loss. Again I am very pleased as I haven't been very strict: too much wine, some sushi with white rice, and even a bit of carrot cake yesterday! If I lose 1 lb more I will not be technically overweight (BMI under 25, just) and I will be only 1 stone away from where I want to be,

Then the challenge will be accepting it and being able to maintain. I have done some silly obsessive dieting in the past and refused to accept that the weight I am at is ok for me - even down to 8stone I was still trying to lose - I suspect this might have contributed to my long term weight problem. This time I am going to accept that I am ok when I am ok and work out a decent maintenance programme. I am determined not to give my daughter hangups.

Good luck everyone

mrswill · 10/02/2010 20:41

I havent weighed this week, due to big blowout on the weekend. So am going to weigh on fri or sat. Am also going to start phase 1 again next weekend to give my weigh loss a bit of a boost.

I used to try and lose weight at 8 and a hlaf stone too vezzie, I look back at pics now, and cant believe I thought I was fat!

Well done all.

shandyleer · 11/02/2010 20:28

Hi everyone, and well done TYOTC and Vezzie on your losses. Sorry to hear about your face TYOTC, I hope its starting to settle down again now. That must have been so painful.

I'm feeling really guilty that I haven't posted for ages, I don't where the weeks go sometimes. I started a HomeStart volunteer course this week (should have been last week but ds3 was ill), and I was away for a couple of days visiting my Dad. All this is a lead-up to me confessing that I have totally gone astray, and haven't been near the scales for weeks - once again I'm too scared to get on them.

I've also decided that I'm going over to the dark side - I'm going to go back to WW. I'm even contemplating hypnosis because although ww has usually worked short term, long term I've always put all the weight back on, usually plus more.

I hope you all continue to do well though, and if you don't mind, i'll drop in from time to time to see how you're all getting on. I really hope you all get the results you're after, maybe you'll post some pics?!

mrswill · 11/02/2010 21:35

Hello shandyleer, how are you enjoying your homestart course? It such a brilliant service.

I was too afraid of going near the scales too, but did go on there today, and have lost a pound taking me down to 9st 12lb and, Ive also lost over 4lb of body fat. Ive been exercising like mad though, and doing lots of weights to tone up. Going to do phase 1 next week for 7 days too to give me a boost.

Il definately post some pics up when Im down to 8stone odd, try and stop me!

Hope your son is better now, and doing well. Let us know how the WW is going, am a total diet slut and not loyal if I see better results.

PrivetDancer · 12/02/2010 10:45

hello, I have been lurking too recently - went back to WW a couple of weeks ago after my gain and lost 3lbs since, so not amazing results but not too bad. Am trying to make harcombe choices still though and not gone back to caffeine as don't see the point now. I would normally buy loads of ww cookies etc but have not done that and finding it a lot easier than before.

shandy, do let us know how your ds gets on next week

vezzie, how is work going now? feel like you've never been away?

franch · 12/02/2010 14:34

Hello everyone! I was on the original ZH thread and completely fell off the wagon but am going to get back on after half term I think. In the meantime am trying to be as good as possible - so far today I've had porridge, rice salad and NLY.

I'll pop in occasionally for the next week or so and then hopefully join you all again

TheYearOfTheCat · 14/02/2010 21:23

Hi everyone, good to hear from you all, and welcome Franch.

Well done Vezzie & Mrs Will (and Shandy & Privetdancer - even though it is with WW )

My face is making a recovery - most of the scabs have gone, but I have got quite a bit of redness left, and a few holes in my forehead. I had to take this week off work because I looked so awful, and I had quite a nice week mooching round the house, doing small jobs which have needed done for ages.

What I'm building up to, is that I have also spent a fair bit of time by the fridge, bored and feeling sorry for myself . . . 79.8kg this morning, so 0.8kg on.

Oh well, this week is another week.

vezzie · 15/02/2010 09:34

hi all,

Privetdancer ? work is fine, thank you ? nicer than before I went away, when I was completely burnt out and so were most of the people I work with. We have a new office, new positive morale? it is tricky as we are in a very insecure industry so anything could happen, but for now I am enjoying being out of the house and socialising with adults!

However?. Not a good week on weight loss. I have put on 3lb! HOW? I wasn?t that bad. I suppose it was more of a carby week than usual. And there was one day when I was in a meeting and had to eat horrible mayonnaisey sandwiches, not at all Harcombe. But I am still appalled at the gain, although I don?t look fatter and my trousers are not staying up (stupid me for buying trousers without belt hooks). I was feeling very tired this morning and also a bit disheartened so fell totally off the wagon by buying a bacon roll. It was delicious.

Not sure what to do next. Phase 1 again? Try something else? Hm.

TYOTC - I feel your pain. But that is not much of a gain.

shandyleer · 16/02/2010 20:48

Hey everyone, hope you're all ok. Glad you enjoyed your week off TYOTC, and pleased that your face is getting better. 0.8kg is nothing, don't waste time worrying about that! And Vezzie, glad work is better but sorry about your 3lbs. Just put it behind you (not literally of course!) and start again tomorrow, it being lent and all that. Hope everyone else is doing well and still on track.

I just jumped on to let those of you who have been kind enough to ask about my ds1 know that he got the all-clear today from the cardiologist. She said she's 99 per cent sure that there's nothing to worry about (naturally, I'm now worrying about the other one per cent) and that he can go back to doing sport again. Hooray! I've been so worried, and of course, it was only natural that dh should take us out to lunch to celebrate, and once there, it would have been rude not to partake fully of the lovely food, and ..... well, you know the rest. Heyho, tomorrow's another day.

Good luck to all of you, sure you're all doing really well

vezzie · 16/02/2010 21:47

Shandyleer, that is great news. Who cares about the diet - celebrating is well in order! And as you say, tomorrow is Lent.

I am having a major wobble - I ate all kinds of nonsense yesterday and today, and just feel as if I have a huge hungry hole inside me - I could eat forever, I could inhale a loaf of bread as buttered toast as fast as normal people could drink a glass of water. I have a cold, so does dd, so we are both grey and knackered, and the weather is foul outside, and I am deeply bored, and feeling weak. Please give me a pep talk or a kick up the arse!

I am trying to think of a non-fattening treat I could give myself tomorrow that will not involve being late home from work - some kind of fillip that does not involve putting starch into my fat face.

Sorry to moan on - I am lucky I don't have real problems. Someone I work with had some terrible news today from her family and I feel so ridiculous whining about a cold. I should be thinking about supporting her tomorrow, not agonising about being bored. Bored is a privilege!

How are all of you? It feels like so many of you are deserting the Harcombe ship. Maybe it is not the fight diet for the last stone. What do you think? (or stone and a half, now, probably, in my case)

TheYearOfTheCat · 17/02/2010 11:46

Great news Shandyleer - for all the bashing the NHS get, they do a great job. I'm sure you are so relieved.

I'm still doing my best to stick to Harcombe - I've gone on a bit of a dark chocolate binge (86% cocoa), but I'm blaming my period.

Vezzie - stick with it - a stone is hardly anything - I reckon 8 weeks max?? I've got 10kg to go, and I turn 40 in 7 weeks - I would like to lose at least 5kg in that time. Lets focus!! If you are craving bread, it sounds like you might benefit from doing phase 1 again, and keeping off the wheat for a while afterwards.

What about a steak with veggies for tea tonight? Pretty indulgent but still very Harcombe. I'm having chicken with asparagus, green beans & tomatoes with a lemon & olive oil dressing. Yum.

PrivetDancer · 17/02/2010 12:00

That's fantastic news shandyleer must be a great feeling

Vezzie, yes I agree, I'd do phase 1 again and read the book again if you want a kick. If you've been off the wagon a bit, it should have a decent effect.

that's not really a treat though... my treat when on harcombe was ricotta cheese with cocoa powder and splenda mixed together (ok the splenda bit was naughty, but it's a perfectly good south beach recipe so figured it was nearly ok)

mrswill · 17/02/2010 19:50

Shandyleer - brilliant news about your son, you must be thrilled!

Vezzie - dont worry about the 3lb. It goes on quick with this diet, but comes off very quick too. I weighed the other day the day before I should have, after eating a load of crisp sandwiches with butter, and I was back to 10st 3lb! Fast forward a very good 3 days where I stuck to the harcombe line and I was 9st 12lb.

Am back to phase 1 tomorrow to give me a bit of a boost. So will weigh in on Tuesday when the dreaded 5 days are over.

amazonianwoman · 17/02/2010 20:57

Hello all! I'm on day 3 of phase 1

Have done really well so far, apart from caffeine - have still been having 2 cups of tea a day (need something to help me cope with half-term ) with a little milk.

I've never followed the Harcombe diet before - have managed around 5 days of Atkins; lost 19lbs with weight watchers this time last year, but I'm right back where I started

I'm going to lose AT LEAST 2 stone, preferably 3 (note positive mental attitude )

Got 10 friends coming for dinner on Saturday night (day 6) so that will be a total write off, but hoping to stay on track otherwise. I might do a couple of extra days of phase 1 next week if I really overdo it!

I seriously think I'm genuinely addicted to chocolate/sugar/carbs in general, so hoping this will "cure" it.

Had some brown rice tonight - DD 5.5 loved it so that will make cooking a little easier in future. Just got to persuade DS 2.11 to eat it too...

Good luck to you all

vezzie · 17/02/2010 21:13

Thanks everyone for the pep talk! I think you are all right and I need to do phase 1 again, or at least very low carb.
Not a great day today... but not too bad. I don't expect a good weigh in on Monday but I am not going to give up.

I think the steak is a great idea - I need to go shopping for some lovely low carb things to eat and stop trying to make things for me and DP again for a while (he is veggie).

Welcome Amazonianwoman, you sound very dedicated and inspiring. Best of luck to you - and to everyone else as well.

amazonianwoman · 21/02/2010 22:15

Whey hey - lost 6 lbs on phase 1 last week

Crappy crappy weekend as feared, so going to do another few days of phase 1 to get back on track.

vezzie · 22/02/2010 07:38

Well done, amazonian!

10st 11oz today - I think this is 1lb on last week - not surprised to have put weight on considering the disgusting way I have behaved, was really put off by last week's 3lb gain.

BUT I am wearing clothes I could not have worn before I started this, I can't give up now.
Not sure how many people are still on this thread?

Can't do phase 1 this week, too tired. I need to just hang in there for a bit and maybe try harder when I have more energy. So tired.

Good luck everyone - anyone who is still there

TheYearOfTheCat · 22/02/2010 15:46

Amazonian, well done! (I have a mental image of you being about 8' tall)

Keep going Vezzie - you have done so well so far.

I am on day 2 of phase 1 again. I completely fell off the wagon after trying the chocolate balls in the recipe book - they were delicious, but I have been eating copious amounts of dark chocolate ever since. Too scared to weigh myself.

Good luck this week.

amazonianwoman · 22/02/2010 18:34

A mere 5ft 10

Back on phase 1 day 1 today after a naughty weekend...

mrswill · 23/02/2010 21:02

Hello all,

Ive had a week of being naughty totally off the wagon, and stuffing grub into my gob like no tomorrow. Have weighed, and am still the same weight. I have started back on Phase 1 for the next week, and am currently on day 2, so will post my results on Monday!

Well done Amazonian!

amazonianwoman · 23/02/2010 21:11

That's great that you haven't put on weight mrswill - i managed to put on a bit of weight in just a weekend

mrswill · 25/02/2010 13:11

I usually tend to put on weight very fast too, but have been very busy, and running around. Firmly back on the wagon now though, and phase 1 is going well, but I need to up the exercise again. Am feeling thinner, when is your weigh day amazonian?

amazonianwoman · 25/02/2010 20:11

Weighing and reporting in tomorrow morning - scales just saying I'm back where I was before the weekend binge and AF here now, but we'll see...

pookey · 25/02/2010 20:38

Hi all! Yearofthecat, mrs will and vezzie I am very impressed you are still here supporting each other. It has gone pretty quiet...

Hi Amozonianwoman always risky business weighing in when due on, good luck hope you get a good result.

Well I have been absent as recently found out I am pg with no 3. Having fallen off track I have decided that I am trying to eat pretty healthily on pretty much the lines of phase 2, bar food combining. I have been looking at the gentle birth method which suggests avoiding wheat sugar caffine, limiting fruit to 3 pieces and eating lots of green veg. Pretty similar to harcombe so I was hoping I could lurk on this thread and put in the odd post if thats ok?

I had 2 good days but today I was a bit lacking in supplies so up until ds got home from school I had eaten oranges, grapes, pecan nuts, and oat biscuits with humous and peanutbutter (not at the same time) I felt rubbish so had a breakaway then felt much better! Had baked chicken breast, chips green beans and carrots for dinner. Hoping to get to the shops tomorrow whilest dd is at preschool.

On the caffine side of things I have been using 2nd hand tea bags (Ie chuck the 1st cup or give it to dp) to lower the caffine and have reduced the quantity of cups but I think 2 cups a day would be a good aim.

What are your favourite meals? I have made the butternut squash curry a few times and its good but not made much else. I seem to get stuck on oats, eggs and salad or chicken with veg. Houmous is a major staple but rarely make it myself.

One interesting thing I have noticed is that when I was back to my old eating habits my knees were creaking when going upstairs maybe its a coincidence but a few low wheat days seems to have helped this?

anyway hope you dont mind if I post occasionaly x
