I think some of the chocolate muller lites have syns, I thought the others were free though? I also thought Quorn burgers were free but thankfully I think they're awful so I don't eat them

cajerz · 17/08/2009 09:39

oh good.. I haven't had any chocolate ones!

I'm going to try and get to a group when the dc go back to school. Following green at the moment because my friend showed me the plan. Does pasta have to be wholemeal to be free?

Are the pasta 'n' sauce's all free as well, if made just with water? That seems to good to be true because they really fill me up if I have one for lunch!

TitsalinaBumsquash · 17/08/2009 09:46

I have a stack of SW mags, i am going to do Spicey Fish Stew, a couple of different Currys and some beef stew hotpot, green days are easy becuase padta takes minutes to cook so DP or i can do that at the time. I am goingto hunt out some more recipes from the mags, let me know if you want me to put them here.

My mum was taken to hospital yeaterday she has a bad heart and had some heart failure again.
Stressfull times!

I seem to be living on raw Carrotts at the moment, i crave them!

ProfYaffle · 17/08/2009 09:53

cajerz - not all the pasta n sauces are free - I made that mistake to start with! Off the top of my head I think it's the cheesy ones you have to be careful with, brocolli and cheese is free but cheese and ham and maceroni cheese aren't.

Sorry to hear about your Mum Tits, everything seems to happen at once doesn't it? You're inspiring me to carry on atm, if you're plodding on with everything you've got on your plate on the moment then I think I can make a bit more of an effort too.

letsgostrawberrypicking · 17/08/2009 10:01

Morning ladies! Hope you dont mind if I join in too
Started last week and finding it pretty easy thank goodness as have at least 2 stone to lose. DD joining me this week so think that will help.
Weigh in on wednesday so looking forward to seeing if it works!

Hope you all have a good day

tullytwo · 17/08/2009 10:48

WI today and only a pound off-so thats basically a pound over 2 weeks-doesnt seem worth it when I am being so good.

I am not stopping just feeling really f**d off

I do keep a food diary online and am doing everything right-east basically the same few things every day.

My body just always seems to take so long to lose weight-honestly not having a pity party or making excuses just is the way it is.

In my past I have had awful periods of not eating and over exercising and still didnt lose weight!

Anyway whinge over-gotta keep going - no way am I staying this weight forever.

RIAlityBites · 17/08/2009 11:53

tits, hope she picks up soon.

re mullerlite, aren't the apple pie/cheesecake type ones synned, plus the black cherry and chocolate? Suppose I should look it up, but i only have one or two a day, and not every day because I really hate yogurt. I didn't know about quorn burgers, I thought the burgers and plain bangers were free, and the mince/fillets etc. As for pasta and sauce, I think you're right with the carbonara/cheesy type ones, but I never put the butter in so have assumed that would make the syn count better? (maybe this is why I'm getting nowhere fast)

Been for an hours walk. Kids driving me mad...

AuntieMaggie · 17/08/2009 12:49

Tully - can you try changing what you're eating if you're eating the same sort of thing most of the time? Also, I think they recommend that you have at least 5 syns a day so if you aren't using any maybe that could help?

Aw tits hope you mum gets better soon

ProfYaffle · 17/08/2009 13:01

Y'know this diet isn't so bad after all. So far have had scrambled egg and bacon for breakast, left over roast pork with salad and blackberries and yoghurt for lunch. V yummy and feeling full.

Am thinking of stir frying the rest of the pork with veggies from the garden and plum sauce for tea.

grinningbee · 17/08/2009 15:24

Tits I hope everything is ok with your mum.

I agree with varying what you're eating. It does help if you're stuck in a rut. And I also agree with giving yourself a break when you need one too. It can save your sanity sometimes! (I have been doing SW on and off for a very very long time!)

Well. I have dropped dh off at lunchtime so that he and a big group of others from our local pub can go off on a pub crawl.

Meanwhile, I am left here with our teething 19 wk old dd. Her first tooth popped through on Friday and its neighbour won't be long. She woke every 30 minutes last night, well, after I managed to get her to sleep at 2am!! Have been to Boots this morning and bought lots of stuff to try.

I am knackered. Feel like I could be justified in eating cookies, but have just had dairylee triangles on toast with toffee mullerlight to follow. Yum. Had boiled eggs and soldiers for brekky.

Btw, tried indian spiced chicken last night and it is gorgeous!

I can post some recipes if anyone would like. It's sausages tonight as lord knows when dh will want collecting. Risotto tomorrow - never made one before...

tullytwo · 17/08/2009 18:57

Is anyone else having bother getting into the food diary section online on the slimming world site?

Thanks Auntie Maggie- will have a rethink soming into September about new things to eat and think I will treat myself to a curly wurly tonight!Or maybe even 2

tullytwo · 17/08/2009 19:05

Do most of you do red days then? I just cant manage with them-get too hungry.

Indian spiced chicken sounds delish -could you post the recipe?

Trixel · 17/08/2009 19:10

Hi all,
Thanks very much for the welcome!
You're about right RIA on the muller lights. The choc, vanilla and cherry underlay is 2 syns, but the choc and orange one is free, as is the chc and vanilla. The layered fruit ones of any flavour are 1.5 syns. But all the normal fruit ones, and banana & custard, toffee etc are all free.
So I guess it's the posh ones that you have to check.
Grinningbee, some recipes that you've tried would be brilliant - some of the ones we've done in this first week are not too inspiring to be honest. You can tell there's no added fat of any sort, let's put it that way.Indian spiced chicken sounds yummy.
All in all, I have to say though, I'm finding this a great diet - I like the fact that you can really fill up on certain things.
Curly wurlys - yum! What's the syn value on those?!
Tully - havent tried to get on the food diary section, sorry can't help
Has anyone got any real pearls of wisdom for a newbie - little tricks / great cheap (from a syn point of view) treats?
You seem a lovely supportive bunch, it's grand!

Trixel · 17/08/2009 19:11

Tully, so far I've only done Green days (all 5 of them!), but like you, can't see how Red days would fill me up!

tullytwo · 17/08/2009 19:15

Think curly wurlys are @6 syns-cant check as cant get on the site!

It is good on here-dont post very often but read it every day and its good for encouragement when things arent going so well!

tammybear · 17/08/2009 20:43

Hello! Had my WI today. Was expecting to have put on a lb at least today, as had a bbq Saturday, was away at the weekend, though I tried to stick with pasta and jacket potatoes whilst eating, but had a pizza earlier but somehow lost 1.5lb. Was much amazed. I am 3.5lbs away from losing my first stone. Going away Weds to Sat so hoping I can be good during that time as well!

Hope everyone is good

AuntieMaggie · 17/08/2009 21:23

I tend to try mix to max or extra easy depending on what I have in the house, etc.

Meat is surprisingly filling. I read somewhere once to eat the protein part of your meal first as protein fills you up quicker, and is definitely true for me.

Fish however I don't find so filling.

Typical mix to max day is neutral breakfast of cereal and milk or toast with jam - might have bacon/syn free sausage sandwich if I'm organised enough. Lunch is salad with ham and egg or jacket and salad or jacket and beans. Dinner is usually meat based sometimes with HE portion of potatoes or just veg.

I find green lunchs easier so this works out well for me. I've also been making my own coleslaw with extra light mayo or pasta salad with a teaspoon of pesto so to liven my salads up.

I then have fruit or a hifi bar for snacks.

grinningbee · 18/08/2009 10:27

Ok - here goes!

Spicy Indian Grilled Chicken (serves 4)

Free on Original and 6 Syns on Green

4 x 113g/4oz chicken breasts boned and skinned
4 courgettes, thinly sliced
Squeeze of lemon juice
Salt and ground black pepper
2 tablespoons chopped fresh coriander to garnish

For the yogurt marinade:

142g/5oz very low fat natural yogurt
1 tablespoon grated fresh root ginger
1 tablespoon ground cumin
1/2 teaspoon ground cardamom
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon chilli powder
1 small red chilli, deseeded and chopped (optional)
2 garlic cloves, crushed
Salt and freshly ground black pepper

  1. Put all the ingredients for the yogurt marinade in a blender or food processor and blend until pureed and smooth.
  1. Slash each chicken breast three or four times with a sharp knife and place in a shallow dish. Pour the marinade over the top and set aside in a cool place for at least an hour.
  1. Lift the chicken out of the marinade and cook under a preheated meduim-hot grill for about 7 - 8 minutes each side, basting with more marinade as necessary.
  1. While chicken is cooking, blanch the courgettes in lightly salted boiling water. Drain well and then throw them onto a hot ridged grill pan lightly sprayed with Fry Light. Cook until just tender and slightly charred on both sides. Tip into a serving dish and sprinkle with lemon juice and seasoning.
  1. Serve the chicken, sprinkled with fresh coriander, with the hot courgettes.

Serve with plain boiled rice (2 syns per 28g/1oz on original eating plan)

All I did different to the recipe was mix the marinade in a bowl (don't have a blender!), and I oven cooked it in all the sauce on 190 for about 35 minutes.

Hope you like it!

grinningbee · 18/08/2009 12:37

Where is everyone ?

Did I kill the thread??

Forgot to say with the chicken recipe - I marinated it for 8 hours. Yum. I'll happily copy more recipes if you want them.

Weigh in in the morning.... I do hope it'll be worth it!

Hope you're all having a lovely Tuesday.

BintOfBohemia · 18/08/2009 13:08

Hello ladies - I've wandered off and done WW for a bit but I might come back to SW. Can anyone tell me this week's password please?

letsgostrawberrypicking · 18/08/2009 15:22

Grinningbee thanks that looks a really nice recipe!

BOB not sure if you should be allowed the password as you have switched allegiences and gone to the other side . How is it working for you?
Password is PEACH

AuntieMaggie · 18/08/2009 15:37

I'm lurking here but it is really quiet today. That recipe looks really nice - going to try it at the weekend.
Where was that recipe from? Did someone mention a calendar? Did I miss a calendar somewhere?

I'm also going to try a nigella chicken recipe that has wine in it so will have some syns. If it's nice I'll post it.

Am really hungry today but don't know why - drinking loads to try and stop me eating!

I wandered off to another slimming thread earlier and was horrified to see some people are doing a diet where there is no fruit or dairy for the first week. How is that healthy? That's why I love SW - steady healthy weightloss. Don't they know that you need calcium?

BintOfBohemia · 18/08/2009 17:43

Thanks letsgo! I know - I keep switching between the two; I lost about 2 stone on SW then got bored and plateau'd, so I switched to WW and lost another 2.

Am bored again though and keep eating too much in terms of quantity which isn't a problem on SW but is messing me up on WW.

To be honest my motivation's gone. I had a really good mindset last year and now it's gone. I wish I could get it back.

grinningbee · 18/08/2009 17:54

Auntiemaggie the recipe was from the Quick and Easy Family Meals cookbook.

I bought it on ebay!

I have a wine and chicken one too - Tuscan Chicken. It was very nice... I used chicken breasts instead of thighs. You serve it with polenta too, which I'd never tried before.

I'll post it if you'd like. A serving is 6.5 syns on either red or green.

Dh came home from work early and I sat and watched him eat cheese on toast . Oh, and I made it for him too.

Ah well. I'll know in the morning if my chocolate/biscuit/scone ban is worth it!

RIAlityBites · 18/08/2009 17:55

doing OK here, though had 2 or 3 slices of (low fat) garlic bread at lunch, as DM had cooked for my kids and Dsis's kids, and none of the ungreatful little buggers would eat it. Just had some SW wedges as a snack as am planning on a walk/run later after I've had my tutorial. I have stumbled across somewhere I think will be perfect for exercise anonymity! veggie stiry-fry with noodles and a tiny bit of chicken later.
