MG - risotto or biryani?

I haven't had a great weekend either, but I had a truly horrible, miserable, stressful week and hardly ate anything because I couldn't face it, and had lost approx 5lb on Saturday. As I have started to feel more on an even keel I have started eating again, and they haven't been the wisest choices, I have some delicious (naughty) food in for tomorrow, but back to it on Wednesday.

DS1 is away from home (for the first time ever without me or at least my parents) for the week "outward bound". Got through today by moving all the furniture in his room and eating mars bars. Got a text from DM tonight saying she thought he would have had his tea by now, 1 night down, 3 to go!!!

The plans for the weekend have gone awry. First I thought we wouldn't be going, then we decided we were, but when I tried to book somewhere for the night after the wedding everywhere with family rooms was full. So we have decided we will just travel there and back in the day. Luckily really as DH has been asked to work Sunday I will have to find a very nice outfit to make up for it.

Furball · 15/09/2009 06:24

olives aren't free they are 1 syn per ounce.

nikkid21 · 15/09/2009 14:48

Well done Tammybear.

I weighed myself yesterday even though I don't go to group until Thursday. Scales say that I have lost 2.5lb. Hope that it stays that way at weigh in as was very grumpy re maintaing after 1st week back on the SW wagon.

Am on a red day so had a heb wholemeal roll filled with a fried egg and 3 rashers of bacon for lunch. Dinner is roast chicken and I have roasted butternut squash with it while dh and the kids get roast tatties and yorkie puds

AuntieMaggie · 15/09/2009 17:13

well done

who was the sister that could advise on exercise?

I need some advice - have been going to the gym on my lunch break, but as I only get about 30-40 mins actually in the gym wondered how I could get the best out of it. We have treadmills, rower, cross trainer, bikes, powerplate and various weight resistance machines.

I need to shift this flab!

tullytwo · 15/09/2009 18:05

does anyone have the password for this week?

nikkid21 · 15/09/2009 18:39

How often are you able to go Aunt Maggie?

I do 3 body pump classes a week and 2/3 spin classes. In the holidays when the creche times don't work with class times I do the following.

Day 1 - 5k run on treadmill - takes 35 to 40 mins and it the real calorie burner

Day 2 - 2k rowing, 10k bike then 10 mins on powerplate if time following one of the programmes on there. - giving the legs time to recover but still fat burning.

Day 3 - Ease up on the cardio and do a full weights workout followed by 10 mins on the treadmill at a steady walk with the incline cranked up. I use a body pump bar and weights rather than the resistance machines as I know the moves from class.

I rotate between the 3 sessions every time I go. In the holidays it's only 3 or 4 times a week.

tammybear · 15/09/2009 20:17

Thank you

I tried extra easy today. Don't think it quite went to plan as didn't have any superfree foods with my lunch, oops, but I hadn't really planned ahead. Did have all my meals planned last weekend, but in the end didn't lol.

MamaG · 15/09/2009 20:37

well done tammybear thats fab! Thanks for the ideas all, am back on track after bad weekend (2 cans of lager, a bottle of cider and a BIG bag of Walkers sensations. Anda subway butty ) so hoping for a loss on Weds. Have 5.5lbs to lose to get a stone off, but only 2.5lbs to lose to get back to pre-BabyG weight which is my interim goal.

letsgostrawberrypicking · 15/09/2009 20:51

tullytwo- it is bread still i think

AuntieMaggie · 15/09/2009 21:09

I try to go every day mon-fri (it's a work gym) but do a different thing every day.

I'm nowhere near fit enough to do what you do and I can only run for a minute.

Do you think the power plate works? I've been giving it a go but as doing other things I don't know if it's working.

kid · 15/09/2009 22:32

I must start SW properly rather than having a SW meal now and again. I have put on too much weight and its just creeping up and up.
I did start back on my exercise bike yesterday (did it tonight too) and am waiting for EA sports active to be delivered any day now.

grinningbee · 16/09/2009 08:02

I've put a pound on this week

I know exactly what did it too and it's my own fault. Had friends over for dinner on Thursday and over indulged a bit, but then carried on for another couple of days. I'm so stupid!

I had an amazing curry last night and will post the recipe on the other thread. It really is very very good. Dh ate his with naan bread while I had some hovis...

nikkid21 · 16/09/2009 12:24

Auntmaggie - I have to say that i'm not massivley convinced with the powerplate for an everyday workout. The area that it does work well on for me is on the abs. I do crunches and extensions while laying on the plate and it does seem to work the muscles harder.
Squats are fairly goo on there as well.
I think that you have to use the cardio equipment for shifting the weight.

PurlyQueen · 16/09/2009 15:22

I tried the SW Weetabix cake this morning.
Never again.
I only had a mouthful before deciding that I didn't like the overpowering taste of Splenda. I still have a saccharine aftertaste in my mouth .
I'm off to get a Curly Wurly instead

tullytwo · 17/09/2009 12:57

Thanks letsgostrawberrypicking

MamaG · 17/09/2009 13:05

grinningbee - 1lb on for me too Gah. Like you, I know why, I have only myself to blame!

i was the only one at my group last night to gain!

nikkid21 · 17/09/2009 14:33

Lost a pound this week

Am going to try a new way on syns this week as I get obsessed with having X left (from the full 15 per day) and want to eat chocolate etc at night.

I'm giving myself 70 syns for the week. (Thursday morning to Wednesday night) If I've used them all by Sunday then it's going to be tough but if i'm sensible I might have enough for a treat on Wednesday night instead. I'm hoping that it will make me more sensible and keep the syns in the 10 a day bracket rather than troughing the full 15.

RIAlityBites · 17/09/2009 17:31

that sounds like it needs self control nikkid, I think I would be too tempted to have all 70 in one go! Good luck!

Does anyone know when the new mag comes out?

I think I have probably failed in my goal of half a stone off for Saturday. (can't face the scales)

So, weekend off (again) - maybe Monday as well (might treat ourselves to a walk in the forestry and a picnic while the DCs are at school if the weather's nice) and then I need to think of a new goal and get remotivated.

letsgostrawberrypicking · 17/09/2009 18:09

1lb off for me so that's 10.5. Am really going (again!) for the stone this week. Had lovely Quorn New Yorker tonight - quorn fillet topped with bbq sauce, wrapped in bacon with a slice of low fat cheese. It was soooooooooo tasty

Tully it's pickle for this week if you wanted it

Dazmum · 17/09/2009 18:23

Hi all, password is pickle this week.

I put on 2lbs last week and lost half this week, wish it was the other way round! Consultant said the gains were about the same as the losses in our group, funny how it varies. I had walked for 5 miles at the weekend and had been good - no maltesers at all for two weeks - so I was hoping for a bit more. Going out for a birthday curry Saturday. Has anyone actually asked a restaurant to cook dishes without oil or ghee? Someone suggested that last night. I weigh the same as you strawberry, I'm trying to get to 9.13 by Christmas and struggling!

AuntieMaggie · 17/09/2009 18:25

well done all

I've lost that darn 2 and a half pounds I put on last week - and good job too!

ConnieComplaint · 17/09/2009 20:49

Hello again everyone. Sorry for going AWOL for so long!! Work has been hectic & with the kids back at school again it's been mad.

Anyway, last week I lost 2lb, this week I lost half a pound.... I still have to lose 0.5lb of the 3lb I gained after the week I had off!!

Maggs, I agree with Nikki re: cardio shifting the weight... if you have 30/40 mins start off with the 5 min warm up (even if it's just a few stretches or a few jumping jacks...just so you're not going into fast cardio cold)

Then do 10 on the cross trainer, 10 on the running machine (even if this is two mins walking one running - I don't mean a sprint, I mean a jog or slightly faster, whatever you're comfortable with) and you'd want to stop before you are completely out of breath or it will put you off.

Then perhaps 10 mins doing something upper4 body (toning is good too, especially as it gives you a bit of a breather) or some squats with weights.

Finish off with 10 on the rowing machine and 5 doing stomach exercises....

the trick is to gradually build it up - I have my sister beside me in the gym most nights, she makes me use a punch bag and between every punch I swing, I have to squat, I'm really feeling it on my legs & my arms.....

On a green day, had sw chips n beans for din, yummy.

Ria, when's the wedding, and have you found anything to wear to it yet?

PurlyQueen · 17/09/2009 22:38

5.5 lbs off this week! Yippee!

RIAlityBites · 18/09/2009 01:01

yay purly it's losses like that that make it worth the effort.

Hi Connie. wedding Saturday, I ended up panic shopping today (was meant to be going to the city with DH yesterday, but he got a cancellation appointment at the hopital to get his test results, and it didn't fit in with DS2s school times, so I had to stay home). I went to a shop that has just opened a dress agency (never been before) and the lady had a load of "big" clothes (that someone must have shrunk cos I was wearing jeans 2 sizes smaller - quite comfortably - than the outfit I bought). Anyway, I ended up with a dark navy linen skirt suit, long skirt, tasteful beading. Not in any way quite what I wanted to be wearing, but it looks OK and I have no time to get anything else. I suppose I felt a bit guilty because the shop lady gave DS3 a biscuit and some juice while I tried stuff on, and she was really nice. TBH I'm not looking forward to it, and will be glad when it's over now. Am cross with myself for not trying harder.

sorry, am feeling a little sorry for myself

JammyK · 18/09/2009 19:42

Hi all. I've just started SW and looking for some help. The last few days I have been stuffing myself with pasta and potatoes. It is free isn't it? So that means that I can eat as much as I want of it? I'm struggling to see how I'm going to lose weight this way! I'm a vegetarian so just doing the green days.

Are mullerlight yoghurts free? How do you work out how many syns different food has? I;ve got about 2stones to lose and if it does work then this diet looks great for me. Dh keeps commenting that I'll never lose weight with all the carbs I'm eating! I've looked back through the thread and you all seem to be doing really well so fingers crossed it will work for me too. Are you exercising as well? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.
