Hi all

Fab weight losses this week - well done!

I lost 2 pounds so was quite pleased. I'm up for a recipe thread, or daily menu type thing.

I had some bad news this week, and could quite happily curl up under a duvet and eat chocolate until I burst.

Went for a scan on Wednesday to check my fibroid had gone back down after having dd (5 months today!). It hasn't and is 7x7x7cm

The upshot was that it will make getting pg more difficult, and I was told that I will be more likely to miscarry I really want another baby before I get too old. Add to that that I had 3 sodding periods in August anyway and I'm miserable.

Hopefully things will settle back down soon. I start weaning in a few weeks, so maybe the old hormones will chill out a bit!

I have to go back in 4 months to check it again.

I did share a bottle of wine with dh last night and we are going to friends tonight for a chinese, so I'm not expecting to lose anything this week.

Bugger.

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 10:59

grinningbee. well done on the loss though, and enjoy your night out

just seen this. I'm OK then

letsgostrawberrypicking · 04/09/2009 11:22

Dazmum - would you mind posting the spiced apple cake recipe please? And what was is like/how many syns? Thanks if you can

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 12:12

yum - cake!

DS1 wants toasties for lunch - help!!!

nikkid21 · 04/09/2009 12:23

Possibly wasn't the best time to start back at SW. Dh's dad has just phoned asking if he can have the kids this weekend. Am now packing the car for DH and I to go camping.

Camping when just the 2 of us means bacon butties, wine and pub lunches. Will try to extra easy it and hope that the exercise will help. We are planning to cycle a large chunk of the Kennet & Avon canal near Devizes.

AuntieMaggie · 04/09/2009 12:53

GB

I lost 3lb this week

However, I also woke up in the middle of the night with a bad tummy so am having today off to try to get better!

grinningbee · 04/09/2009 13:04

Ria, I saw the same artical today.

Yep - I'm definitely ok!! My thighs are the size of a baby seal each. Hahahahahahahaha!

I'd also be interested in the apple cake recipe please.

I must be good tonight and not scoff too much chinese. At least I'll be wine free as I'm driving.

Oh, by the way. Tried the veg paella recipe again last night and it was much better. I added an extra onion, extra garlic clove and half a teaspoon of chilli flakes. Much tastier!

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 13:31

sounds great nikkid, apart from the cycling (riding a bike gives me panic attacks). It's raining here. I lasted til after lunch Am now really cross with myself for throwing out my chinese!

Think I've ot a cold coming, or maybe PMT, killer headache and achey, worn out. Lack of motivation caused by crap weather not helping

hope you feel better soon auntiemaggie.

BethAndHerBrood · 04/09/2009 15:23

Hi everyone!

Stop talking about chinese's! My kids are having it for tea. Me and DH are having salad, chips and quorn burgers. How can that be right??

I've made 3 dozen buns this afternoon, and have resisted so far. Lets see how it goes later! Most of them are for a summer fair, so we can't too many. I did weaken and have a bag of prawn cocktail crisps though. 6.5 syns. They were nice, but not sure they were that nice!

Oh dear - it's the weekend again. Not a good time for me. I can hear wine o'clock calling already!

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 17:23

that is very restrained Beth, well done you. Those spicy quorn fillets are nice (dead cheap at our local Farmfoods).

I found nikkids talk of wine, french bread and bacon butties all too tempting!

I am now cross with myself for falling off the wagon earlier. I will try and fit in some gentle stretching or something later when the millstones are asleep, before DH comes home. Hopefully that will make me feel better.

Am going to menu plan and do an online shop later I think.

ConnieComplaint · 04/09/2009 19:17

PMSL Ria - I had a chat with my sister last night & asked about your thighs...then I heard that on the radio on the way to work this morning & I had a giggle!! Imagine giggling about the thighs of a stranger whom I've never met

AM - excellent!! Way to go girl

Well done to everyone else!!

BTW where's Prof? Have been missing her lately!! We had a fab batch of blackberries we picked today!

I just had the tasties EE dinner ever. It came from the new EE cook book, rich stew with mustard mash!! Yummy... will post the recipe if anyone wants. We had it with our home grown broc & cauli & I am now fit to burst!

Ria - re: thighs... C said you should try squats, really deep squats, focus on a spot on the wall, push your butt back and squat as deep as you can do, taking big deep breaths... do a set of 18, then 15, then 12. Slow controlled moves work better than the bouncy up & down thing. She also said walking would be a great thing too and she says you could perhaps try some easy step aerobics to get your thighs used to going that way..... this is a girl who knows her stuff & I would trust her with anything body related...but she also know nothing of having thighs...cos she's never had any! The cow

fuzzypeach · 04/09/2009 20:56

Ive not been on here for a while as I have not been good at all, so decided to have one last blow out this weekend, then start afresh on monday - 4 weeks til my birthday so going to try and lose as much as I can for then so I can wear a nice dress....something to aim for!! Hope you are all doing ok!

AuntieMaggie · 04/09/2009 21:07

Not sure where Prof is - she didn't say she was going anywhere did she?

I've had fish and chips for tea tonight and 4 pieces of bread (toast)and a can of coke today so way off plan. Was a bit worried about my tummy after last night though. Not sure what set it off but was bloody painful!

Off to London tomorrow so fingers crossed that I manage to stick to some sort of plan!

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 21:24

thanks Connie, I had a feeling it would be squats/lunges/something equally painful! I will give it a try, though it may take me a while to build up to 18! I got stuck again this morning, climbing over the stairgate into the kitchen, I got one leg over and couldn't move back or forward, so I had to get DH to open it and kind of shuffle backwards with the gate

I think Prof was going away for a week or two?

Have really struggled (and failed) today, have a novel and some wine (no exercise tonight), back to it tomorrow. It is exactly 2 weeks to the wedding then. Back to school on Monday, so that should help.

Fuzzy, did you stick to SW before your wedding you went to, or did you follow the GI?

PuppyLoves · 04/09/2009 21:59

Hello ladies!

Well done on the weight loss GB and Maggie.

Glad to know walking helps the thighs Connie, we recently had to sell our car due to lack of funds and the only upside to that depressing situation is that I am walking serious miles now! Your camping trip sounds fab!

Ria keep thinking of that wedding and well done for throwing out that chinese - and menu planning really does help.

of Maggies fish & chips, the only thing I really crave is a chippy!

I've just had two glasses of wine

I read about www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/recipes/article6800376.ecethis recipe on the 'what are you having for dinner thread' and thought it sounded really nice but does anyone know if you could have it whilst on SW? Would really appreciate someone having a look as even DH seemed quite keen about trying it.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

PuppyLoves · 04/09/2009 22:00

Try that recipe link again

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 22:15

re the recipe puppy - IIRC (and I aren't in full-on SW mode, so please correct me if I'm wrong!) stock cubes have to be synned unless they are vecon (and maybe even they aren't free, just low-syn), the honey and chilli oil would be syns too (could you substitute fry-lite and chopped fresh chillis? haven't read the full recipe method), if it's low-fat mince you could EE this couldn't you? or have the mince as a HE on a green day?

If it was chicken it sounds delish, but I'm a bit about honey and beef!

ConnieComplaint · 04/09/2009 22:51

Stock cubes are free now

Will be back in bit to post more!

RIAlityBites · 04/09/2009 23:12

woo-hoo! free soup for everyone! (how could they ever be synned, unless you crumble whole oxo onto beans on toast - wrong on so many levels - like someone I was at school with)

fuzzypeach · 05/09/2009 13:32

stock cubes are free????? tell me more???!!!

Ria - I ended up just sticking to SW as I didnt have time to try and get my head round changing the rules...But I think the main thing that got me into shape was doing lots of exercise, i aimed to do at least 40 mins per day of exercise (mainly the gym, but also my davina dvd/long walks with the pram) x

Dazmum · 05/09/2009 13:54

Sorry Letsgostrawberrypicking, 1 wasn't on the slimming pages of MN yesterday and didn't see your request! The cake is gorgeous, very moist, and you need to eat it all within about 5 days of making - no problem there then

Here goes:
makes 12 squares, ready in about 45 mins

4oz / 113g All Bran
2 large red-skinned apples, peeled and cored
4oz/113g low fat spread suitable for baking i.e Flora Light
2oz/ 57g Splenda Brown sugar blend, plus an extra tablespoon
3 large eggs
4oz / 113g plain wholemeal flour, sieved
1 1/2 tspn baking powder
1 tsp mixed spice

Preheat oven to 200 degrees C/ Gas 6
Pour 7fl oz boiling water over all bran and leave for 5 mins to soak in. Grate one apple and tbinly slice the other.

Put the low fat spread, splenda and eggs in large bowl and beat with electric mixer until just combined ( looks weird but will be ok!) Add flour, baking powder, mixed spice and all bran and grated apple and fold together.

Spoon mixture into a 20cm x 20cm non-stick cake tin and top with apple slices. Sprinkle over remaining splenda and bake for 20 mins. Allow to cool before cutting into 12 squares.
6 1/2 syns per slice red and green and worth it! Very filling.

Hope you enjoy it!

Dazmum · 05/09/2009 14:01

That's Spiced apple cake of course....

I'm also going to try the Spicy stuffed squash recipe and the Ricotta and spinach cannelloni from the new mag this week too, as I just seem to eat the same old things week in week out, so I'll let you know how they are. Not as exciting as cake tho.

RIAlityBites · 05/09/2009 16:29

fuzzy, I am doing the GI for 2 weeks as I know I can do half a stone with it (even if it is hard). No lunch today though as I couldn't find a pre-packed sandwich for 250cal anywhere in town. Might as well wait for tea now and have toast for supper. Have bought no alcohol and will go for a long fast walk to the village shop later for some diet coke or something.

Connie - I tried those squats last night (I managed 18) and my hip pain in the night was far less! (I know it's co-incidence) so I'll stick with that I think. What does you Dsis think of retro-1980s callenetics?

PuppyLoves · 05/09/2009 18:48

Good ideas Ria about substituting Chill, chicken and fry light. I could syn the honey. Do you think it would work ok SW then?

Those prepacked sandwhiches are in calories. I remember when I was doing ww years ago I brought a sandwhich and it was 13 points, which was more than my dinner sometimes - I was gutte when I found out, after I had eaten it!

Cake sounds delish - how many syns is it?

I'm having a vegtable biyarni tonight from the takeaway

tammybear · 05/09/2009 20:04

Getting frustrated now! I'm just sitting at the same weight at the moment. Was really looking forward to being told I've lost a stone on Monday, not being told I've put on a lb. Sod's law isn't it? Lol.
