Hello all, congratulations, commiserations, encouragement, welcome etc as appropriate!
Have been away from scales for 3 days and happy to find I had crept down 1lb this morning (which has taken nearly 2 weeks I think!). Think maybe I am underestimating portion sizes when inputting to FF - or perhaps my gardening activity is not as vigorous and calorie-burning as they imagine - as weight loss is slower that it should be. But never mind! Someone talking to me on Sunday said "but as you're so slight, ...." I looked down in astonishment trying to figure out what she was looking at, not a word ever used to describe me before! (and btw I am not slight at all!)

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 19/05/2009 08:52

Lucifera, some people naturally lose weight slowly, I know I usually do, even when 100%.

ducdo · 19/05/2009 10:33

wastingmyeducation .. weighing in in the evening, why don't you do first thing in the morning, apparently we are at our lightest then. I wouldn't dare step on the scales at end of day even if I've stuck to my cal intake!!

hilarious about the baked beans, I couldn't find the bloody things either and entered them myself after searching for far too long!

I am feeling focused and on track so stick with it everyone everyone is doing really well, even with the odd blip

Lucifera · 19/05/2009 10:36

yes TOMPD, I used to be able to lose much faster, but it definitely slows down as you get older, like everything else!

wastingmyeducation · 19/05/2009 10:51

I shall be weighing in tonight. I've slacked on entering the food over the weekend. I've not been able to exercise, as we usually go out for walks and the rubbish weather has mostly put paid to that! We're off into town shopping today, so that should burn a few calories!

I'm thinking of changing my goal so I've got a lower, well higher target, but with a shorter timescale, perhaps that would be more motivating?

Off to have breakfast.

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 19/05/2009 13:20

feck

Gracie123 · 19/05/2009 13:24

With regards to baked beans/weetabix problems have you tried searching with the unbranded box checked? It may not be exact as it would be if you entered it yourself, but most of these bog standard foods are all the same. I just use unbranded for stuff like that. Beans and weetabix are both in there, and I suspect it won't make too much different to your calorie count.

HuffwardlyRudge · 19/05/2009 14:39

Good tip Gracie.

ducdo · 19/05/2009 15:17

oops just succumbed to my first piece of chocolate in weeks . passing the vending machine at work and noticed the Twix glaring at me had 142 cals on the packaging.

Perfect I thought, not too bad for a nice chocolate fix. However once I bought it realised its 142 per stick and there's 2 in the pack. I don't have the willpower to offer my 2nd stick to a colleague so just eaten them both .. a wapping 287 cals logged on FF . yikes

got about 500 cals left for dinner so could have been worse .. and have to admit whilst it was nice, not sure it was worth all those cals .. could have eaten loads of stuff for that!

Cocobear · 19/05/2009 17:40

Hi again everyone. Just weighed in and I'm down another pound this week, so that's roughly a one-pound/week loss (I'm now 5 down on where I started). So, yeah, it's slow, but as lucifera said, I'm old and it takes longer now!

I was getting kinda depressive over how long it's taking to lose the weight, but now that it's five pounds in total, well, that seems like proper weight loss.

I've long since stopped entering anything at all into FF. Haven't looked at it in a couple weeks. But now I know more or less what my calorie allownace looks and feels like.

Cocobear · 19/05/2009 17:53

Now I've read back all the posts I've missed and I'm so impressed with everyone's running. I'm up to about 4k/day now. It's brilliant as it burns the calories in no time at all.

Have also ordered a Davina DVD so I can do something during DD's naptime on some days (otherwise I have to go running at the gym after DH gets home from work - it's winter here now and it's dark by the time he gets home).

HuffwardlyRudge, where are you that it's 35C out?

wastingmyeducation · 19/05/2009 17:56

What time of day does everyone who runs run?

Cocobear · 19/05/2009 19:44

Either early morning (6.15) before DH leaves for work, or after I've fed the kids their tea and DH is home from work (6.30 or 7).

Gracie14 · 19/05/2009 19:46

Hello,

Joined food focus yesterday on a mumsnetter recommendation and I'm more determined than ever now.

Had DS in September last year and gained 4 stone lost 2 quite quickly and then joined slimming world where I lost another stone and a bit. Now I have 12 pounds to go and really want to get there by end of June/Beg of July as I'm a bridesmaid in July!! No pressure

I'm 5ft 9in and weigh 12st 10.5 pounds and size 14. According to FF I can do it by eating 1258 calories a day - looking forward to dieting with you ladies

LastOrders · 19/05/2009 20:18

Hello peeps!

I've had an okayish day today. Lunch was a shop bought sarnie (egg) and a bag of Doritos, which isn't good, but is all I've had. Just going to make quorn 'chiken' stirfry with a few noodles.

I'm off on holiday on Friday, that will be a bugger, but should be ok. I wonder how Lilians getting on with all that Rioja and Tapas!

I'm off on holiday on Friday too LastOrders! Back on Monday. There'll be nice food, but loads of walking, so hopefully shouldn't be too bad.

Well, I've weighed in and I've lost 2 pounds, which is great, but it was much more than that before the weekend.

I've changed my goal weight as well now, but as it won't let me choose more then 2lbs a week, it isn't exactly where I wanted it, but I'm expecting bigger losses the next couple weeks if I stick to my targets and exercise!
I am quite big, so should lose more at the start of a diet. We'll see!
I'm aiming for 2stones lost my my birthday in August.

I can't start running yet, but want to when I get a bit lighter.
I've said that until DS sleeps through more than once a blue moon week, I will stay in bed as long as he does in the morning.
When he sleeps through regularly, I'll start getting up earlier to get showered etc. and to exercise!
This time of night, I just want to sit down.

HuffwardlyRudge · 20/05/2009 07:38

I had such a day yesterday and was SO looking forward to curling up on the sofa with a glass of wine and a dvd. Well, when I updated my food log I'd gone 47 calories over. Not a big deal, but no glass of wine for me . It was all my friend's fault. She doesn't know I'm dieting and she came round and brought doughnuts. I didn't even particularly want one (what a waste of calories!) but it would have been rude not to so I had one (and subtly kept giving 12 month old 12 big bites !)

of everyone off on their holls.

Hello Gracie14 Well done on the 2 stones. There are 2 Gracie's on this thread now so must not get confused.

Coco - I'm in Dubai. It's only 35 degrees if I wait until after dark to run. It gets to 40+ in the daytime

ducdo · 20/05/2009 07:48

Morning all, I keep reading different opinions on when is best time to exercise .. read yesterday its around 4pm as your body is full of oxhygen(spelling?!).

although for me first thing is best around 6:30am .. if not after dark when no one can see me puffing along .. although with the summer nights that won't be happening unless I go out at 10pm ish which is far too late!

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 20/05/2009 08:54

I WILL STICK TO MY ALLOWANCE TODAY!

I WILL NOT GO TO THORNTONS, ANY CAFES OR FAST FOOD PLACES!!

I WILL DO IT!!!!

HuffwardlyRudge · 20/05/2009 09:46

You WILL do it Mary. You CAN do it and today you will choose to.

HuffwardlyRudge · 20/05/2009 09:55

I just had an enormous bowl of very very low calorie soup for lunch. I was thinking, is it a good thing to eat lots of something low calorie? Probably not. Surely I need to train my stomach to expect smaller portions? What do you think?

(PS it doesn't really work either because while my stomach feels full, I could still really go for a nice sandwich. It's not a satisfying fullness.)

TheOtherMaryPoppinsDiets · 20/05/2009 10:20

HR Thanks for the encouragement - 10.20am and all going well!! Now where are you based that it's lunchtime already?

Have just had a Boots Shapers cereal bar as mid morning snack and going to make a coffee.

My lunch will be ham and crackerbread or maybe boiled eggs, with salad and vegetable slim a soup.

Dinner tonight will be a Quorn and brocolli thing with cauli and jersey royals

beaniebaby25 · 20/05/2009 11:07

hi everyone

glad to hear people are keeping it up!! congrats everyone

to those asking if there's an easier way to enter say an avocado, i can't find it either - i think the site mainly stores shop-bought combinations of stuff - eg you put in chicken drumstick and have to wade through KFC, mcdonalds etc... but i think yes if you just tick the 'unbranded' box you're more likely to find plainer things. Saying that, I've manually added lots of stuff to my fave food list so i can find things easily.

top tip for anyone who's a member of a gym - I went to two 'Spin' classes this week (group exercise in a studio on resistance bikes, cycling to loud music in the dark!). It was knackering but fab, really felt it working and each 45 minute session is apparently worth 499 cals on the calculator!!!!

Not weighed myself since sunday, will make Friday my weigh-in i think (weekends tend to be my downfall)... feeling better though and feel like my stomach isn't quite so bulbous. I've even had one comment saying i looked 'fitter'! just hope i can keep this up until i reach my target

beaniebaby25 · 20/05/2009 11:10

oh and mary poppins - is quorn better/tastier than meat? I want to try it, I've been trying to persuade DP to let me cook quorn mince or something but he "won't have it in the house" - did you have to persuade anyone!? and is it nice?

I was thinking of cooking it for dinner anyway and seeing if he noticed

Ellibop · 20/05/2009 11:35

LastOrders - that's really interesting that you said you're not bothering entering into FF anymore and I've just decided to join you. Will carry on eating healthily and am doing more exercise, but I just can't be bothered to enter everything in...will see how it goes, I may end up re-starting again if it goes pear-shaped (literally!)

Beanniebaby, Quorn is lower fat than meat and really tasty if you mix it with the right sauce as it mainly just takes the taste of that. I use it in shepherd's pie. I bet your dp wouldn't notice the difference!

Am feeling quite virtuous as have just done 30mins yoga from My Fitness Coach. Have also just ordered a WiiFit as I've heard it has a good running bit on it which will suit me better as I look after DS during the day and there's no way on earth that I'm getting up early or heading out in the eve!
