Hi girls!!

Right.... the rules:

1 No big goals.
2 No failing.
3 No guilt trips.

Our goals need to be realistic. It freaks me out to think I need to lose 10 stone. That's 140 pounds - it's a WHOLE PERSON!!!!

Therefore I propose that we make ourselves realistic goals. Ignore the final hurdle; the first hurdle is my first half a stone.

7 lbs.

No failing: if you put on any weight, then IT IS ALRIGHT. It will come off again.

We will try our best to keep our weight going down, but if it has a blip, then it has a blip - no big deal, ok?

I am sick and tired of putting myself on and feeling guilt tripped by people because I put a pound or two on this week.

NEWSBREAK: it doesn't matter in the big picture!

Focus on the positives.

We will encourage each other as we muddle along together, agreed?

Here is our inspiration to keep going:

Only One Pound

Hello! Do you know me? If you don't, you should. I'm a pound of fat. And I am the happiest pound of fat that you would ever want to meet.

Want to know why? It's because no one ever wants to lose me; I'm ONLY ONE POUND, just a pound!

Everyone wants to lose three pounds, five pounds, or fifteen pounds, but never only one.

So I just stick around and happily keep you fat. Then I add to myself, ever so slyly, so that you never seem to notice it. That is until I've grown to ten, twenty, thirty or even more pounds in weight.

Yes, it's fun being ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT, left to do as I please.

So, when you weigh in, keep right on saying, "Oh, I only lost one pound." (As if that were such a terrible thing) For you see, if you do this, you'll encourage others to keep me around because they'll think I'm not worth losing.

And, I love being around you - your arms, your legs, your chin, your hips and every part of you.

Happy Days!!! After all, I'm ONLY ONE POUND OF FAT!!!

Swedish, are you there, matey??? I've just been weighed and I've lost another pound and a a half, that's 1 stone and 8 pounds in total so far, mega pleased!!!!

How are you doing, it's been a while since I've been on.

swedishmum · 10/03/2009 09:58

Hi there - I'm still here! Just logged on to give you a shout and there you are. Congratulations on the continued weight loss - it's amazing how it all adds up.
I've got a bit bored recently but have stuck to the low carbs. I think it's more exciting to start with when the weight comes off more quickly. Must say I've changed quite a lot of my eating habits though - latte just doesn't appeal any more! I still need to drink more water, and a few less glasses of red wine...

ladymariner · 10/03/2009 23:00

You're right there, when you first start the novelty is there and you can see losses of 3-4 lbs a week, then when it slows down you can get a bit disillusioned.
We've started walking on a lunchtime, just a mile and a half and it takes us about 20 mins, we've done it every day for the last foertnight and it's great, we have a natter as we're going round and it also clears your head, esp if the last lesson has been a bit head-banging. I think that it's the extra exercise that is making a difference to me, tbh, it's definately toning me up a little.
I bought a lovely white shirt from Autograph in M&S the christmas before last, it was a real bargain, £9 down from £30, but when I put it on it wouldn't even touch across the boobs, nowhere near. So it got shoved to the back of the wardrobe in disgust! I went out for the day with my mum on sunday and I was deciding what to wear, and I tried it on, thinking if it was still a bit tight I could wear a sweater over it - IT WAS TOO BIG!!!!!!!

swedishmum · 11/03/2009 22:17

YES! Clothes that are too big is definitely the wat to go

Hey, if I've lost 1 1/2 sizes in 2 months, does that mean 9 sizes in 12 months? Hey, I'll be REALLY skinny then . Actually, even I don't have 9 dress sizes to lose!

I love the idea of walking every lunchtime. Problem is, I can't make myself be motivated enough to do it. I know it makes a difference. There's an outlet centre near us - maybe I could stomp around there every day? I get so bored walking by myself.

MrsPurple · 11/03/2009 22:31

Just found this thread. Where do I start. Need to lose 10 stone .

Have tried in the past but 2 DC and DH keep me on my toes, plus have arthrius in knee so not as mobile as I'd like (too much walking kills me).

Any advice from anyone?

squilly · 11/03/2009 22:47

I've just found this thread too Mrs Purple. I need to lose 3 stones at least and know roughly where to start. I lost over 4 a couple of years ago with WW but haven't done it for ages and just can't seem to get back into it.

I think I need support and focus, so I'm hoping this will help. I confess I nearly bumped the thread, just to keep an eye on it, as I am not sure if I'm really up to doing this...but I can keep saying that and moaning that I don't fit in my clothes any more OR I can do something about this....

I think the time to act is now!

ladymariner · 11/03/2009 22:54

Heeelllllooooooooo mrspurple, come in and welcome!! There's only me and swedish keeping this going at the moment but we're ever so friendly and we'd like some company

There is some really good advice on this thread so it might be worthwhile having a read through and see if anything catches your eye? I'm following the SW plan which works for me (as long as I do it properly!)

I'm loving the walking, we're only out 20 mins but it's making a difference. I take my ipod with me in case nobody else can make it that day but so far there's always been somebody with me. It definately clears my head, and it's nice to be out in this weather, todays been glorious up here.

Just got in from seeing The Reader......lets just say it's hardly Mama Mia, is it?? glad I wasn't feeling depressed before I went, although to be fair, it's not Cold-Mountain-Depths-Of-Despair. Now that was a godawful film!!!

ladymariner · 11/03/2009 22:55

And a big warm welcome to squilly also....

MrsPurple · 11/03/2009 23:08

Need to get some motivation .

Do struggle with exercise due to dodgy leg (scooter incident on Friday 13th last JUne), it won't ever get better, so have to do none weight baring exercise, which is difficult with 2 younger DC's.

Will read thread tomorrow as feeling very tired (started back to work last week, after 3 years off), and am getting over depression.

ladymariner · 11/03/2009 23:10

Well, we're here if you need us

MrsPurple · 11/03/2009 23:12

thanks.

Will get up tomorrow and try to be positive. (although have to make DD1 some cakes for cake sale Friday).

Cleaning is good exercise (well it may burn a few calories), so can finish that off tomorrow.

ladymariner · 11/03/2009 23:16

I fell off the wagon for our school's cake stall a few weeks ago - made 65 crispy cakes and only 60 made it in to school

MrsPurple · 11/03/2009 23:25

oh dear, sounds just like me, but then you wouldn't want to poison the children now would you, you have to try them

ladymariner · 11/03/2009 23:49

indeed - elf and safety and all that

swedishmum · 12/03/2009 13:47

Ooh good - new people! Hello and welcome to Squilly and Mrs Purple.
This is the first time I've stuck with a diet for longer than a couple of weeks and I'm feeling very positive - this thread really helps. It's really great to have other people to join us. I don't know how much weight I need to lose as I didn't weigh myself first - though wish I had now as I'd love to know how much I've lost.
I'm doing low carb - thoroughly recommend the bit about why we eat too much in India KNight's Idiot Proof Diet whatever kind of eating plan you're following.
I think we'll all need positive vibes tonight with the cake baking sessions!

squilly · 13/03/2009 09:35

Thanks for the welcome. Yesterday I didn't log on to the thread as I ate normally. I had brekkie, a handful of marshmallows (?!? they were left over from Christmas) leftover veg and potatoes from the night before for lunch and a sausage omelette for tea. Not dreadfully healthy! I did resist the usual chocolate bar after I'd eaten, but I didn't really think that would suffice for day 1 of my new regime

SO....today, so far, I've had cereal and coffee. I'm trying to drink more water as I know it helps. I'm also trying to cut down on caffeine but I love my coffee. If I can get down to 3 or 4 cups a day, that'll be a start

I'm off to dig out my WW points book...off to weigh myself on the WII fit, so I know how much I've got to lose here, and I've got the Fitness Coach too, so I'll try to squeeze in an aerobics session.

I really feel for you, Mrs Purple, with your poorly leg. I'm on the older scale of mums on here and I struggle with varicose veins and a little arthritis too, probably brought about by my fluctuating weight! It makes exercising less appealing, though I've been told by fitter friends that it's just a barrier and I can break through it .

And in terms of the crispy cakes ladym, I'd have probably eaten half of them, so I think you did quite well in the circumstances.

Hope everyone has a good red nose day

swedishmum · 13/03/2009 20:47

I've agreed to do some supply teaching - dc4 is now at school and credit crunch and all that.... I'm so nervous - it's my 1st go at paid employment (and whole class teaching) for a few years. Positive vibes please!

squilly · 14/03/2009 09:46

I'm sure you'll be great swedishmum.

So many parents take time out of work to look after their kids and they think they've lost their skills or lost the edge. You don't stop being a good teacher, (delete and insert whatever career you were in) just cos you've been away from it for a while.

In fact parenting has so many skills that are 'teacher like' you'll probably feel like you've never been away!

Go knock 'em dead swedish.

swedishmum · 14/03/2009 20:17

Thanks squilly . Dd1 starts work experience on Mon too - it'll be far more stressy for her than me!
Went shopping with dd1, dd3 and dd1's friend then went to Pizza Express. I was SO good - had salad with no dressing, 2 bottles of water and black coffee. The others had garlic bread, pizza, lasagne, choc ice cream sundae....

ladymariner · 15/03/2009 17:22

wow, swedish, what a superstar you are - stressy time like this, temptation plonked in front of your nose and you still didn't succumb. That is truly awesome (ladym bows deeply to swedish )

Loads of luck for supply, you'll be great! xxx

swedishmum · 15/03/2009 19:59

Thank you

I could have so eaten some garlic bread

MrsPurple · 15/03/2009 20:36

wow you sound like you're doing reeally well swedish mum.

Unfortunately I too have re joined the raNKS of employment and aftet the cake sale (I didn't eat too many but I did buy a few for charity) - can't decide whether this is good or bad?

Anyway everyone at work was having a burger so I'm ashamed to say I did in an effort to bond.

I'm determined to start tomorrow afresh, new week, new day etc. Fingers crossed I WILL (I'm shouting to myself) find the motivation to do well.

MariaCC · 16/03/2009 21:04

Can I be a new person too ladies? Just found this thread and think it might be really helpful for me. I've been doing the whole 1lb a week thing since Christmas anyway and it's working! I'm 3lbs off losing a stone which means I only have another 2 stone to go. It's the most successful (and positive) I've ever been!

February was a bit stagnant for me though. Couldn't quite seem to motivate myself and lost nothing. Back on the wagon now though. My strategy is: low GI / low fat; pilates, pilates and more pilates; and Rosemary Connelly videos (partly as I'm fascinated by her non-moving hair).

Would be lovely to have people to talk to about it all. It might sound ridiculous but I've developed this unconcerned confident fat person persona with all of my friends. Not consciously but it's there anyway. So I have no one to go YEAH! when it's good and BOO! when it's all going dreadfully. Lovely DH of course (who's also trying to lose weight which helps) but nothing beats lovely ladies!

ladymariner · 17/03/2009 09:24

Of course you can join us, mariacc, welcome!!!!!!!

That's why I find this thread so good, we all support each other. I'm right there with you on the RL persona, I shoiuld be up for an Oscar I'm so good at it!!!

neverwasswedishanyway · 17/03/2009 22:14

Hi Mariacc and welcome!
MrsPurple, sometimes we all need to eat a burger to fit in. Being happy at work is very important.
Please excuse my minor name change - had a bad computer moment.
Work is going fine - OK 2 half days so far - have a whole day tomorrow though. Am a bit bothered about lunches when I can't do sandwiches etc. Must get up v early tomorrow to make an omelette as I have to be there at 8.10!
