bugger bugger bugger! have been gardening (planting seeds actually, so doesn't even count as exercise) and forgot to put the chicken in the oven, so nothing ready for tea and low-cal ready meals were one of the things I didn't get at the supermarket last night. I am starving

and am with myself. I know how crap I am when I aren't organised.

katiestar · 19/04/2009 00:02

Bad news.Have just got back from hospital. DH has been admitted with appendicitis. He has had stomach ache for a couple of days and it seemed to be getting a lot better but as it moved to bottom right of stomach i was a bit concerned and insisted he went to the out of hours GP who had him admitted straightaway.
They will operate tomorrow morning unless it gets worse in the night .But I will sleep by phone just in case.
Sorry for my long non diet related ramblings ! Hope everyone had a good day!

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 19/04/2009 00:34

oh katiestar, take care. fingers crossed all will be well overnight. do you have family nearby to help with the DCs? (my Dad had his appendix removed in the 60s befored he married DM - she wasn't even allowe to visit him in hospital. He was in a hospital overlooking the sea - I don't suppose that made it any better - it isn't there anymore) (also sorry for rambling - you will find I do that if you stick around)

hope you can get some sleep. Keep us posted. x

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 19/04/2009 00:36

BTW, we quite like non-diet stuff (especially me, who can't stick to one unless all normal life stops)

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 19/04/2009 09:10

Katiestar - hope you got some rest last night and that all is well with DH (I know he's not going to be on top form today but hope he's OK and the op goes/went well). And (a bit like the yelloe pages) we're not just here for diet side of life you know.

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 19/04/2009 12:56

hope all is well katiestar.

how's the leg jammy?

tis a good job this isn't a diet-only thread or I would be barred

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 19/04/2009 18:20

Leg's improving thanks. Have rested if plenty this weekend, just had a couple of half mile strolls with DD. Did some sit ups etc and some arm weights this morning though. But despite missing a couple of hard exercise sessions, and despite having a couple of bad days this week food wise I still seem to have lost another kg this week I am now pretty confident that I will be wearing that dress

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 19/04/2009 18:22

that's brilliant jammy, well done

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 19/04/2009 22:48

I know this has been done before, but I just signed up to this

I have yet to suss out how it works and stuff, but it might help...

katiestar · 20/04/2009 19:04

Thanks for your kind supportive messages about my DH. He eventually had what was left of his appendix (it was gangrenous) out last night. As it had already burst they waited 24 hours and gave him loads of intravenous antibiotics. He is in no pain and looks the picture of health now and will hopefully be home tonight or tomorrow morning.

On the weightloss front I shed another couple of pounds last week , so i am well chuffed with that.Hoping to get my first gym for ages in tomorrow while kids are at school and playgroup.
As a matter of interest can anyone recommend another DVD I am getting a bit bored with my Davina and Martine ones ?

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 20/04/2009 19:07

glad all is fairly well katiestar.

and good for you on the loss.

I like the Rosemary COnley salsacize one. I did fancy the Claire from Steps one too but am on a tight budget and really can't justify any more DVDs I won't use

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/04/2009 19:33

Which Davina do you have Katiestar? I've got super body workout and would recommend it, but not sure how different the dvds are from each other?

Glad DH is on the mend, and well done on the loss

My DH brought a load of reduced price Hotel Chocolat choccies home tonight (they were delivered to him at work today). I've had one rum & raisin choc and it was delish! But I'm not having any more tonight!!

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 20/04/2009 20:10

he's a wiley old fox having them delivered to work jammy

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/04/2009 20:42

Oh it was just to make sure someone was there to take delivery Ria.

RGPargy · 20/04/2009 21:25

Katiestar - glad DH is on the mend. Well done for the weightloss too.

Jammy - Well done on the weight loss to you too!

Well dont fall off your chairs but i went to the gym today!! I did about 30 mins of cardio and some weights but i think i was more worried about DD's first time in the creche. She was absolutely fine tho so i needn't have worried. I'm going again tomorrow and will be focussing on weight training and then on Wednesday i'll be focussing on cardio.

Dietwise i have been pants today as i met a couple of friends this afternoon and ended up having a chicken salad sarnie, chips and a pint.

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 20/04/2009 21:36

I'm sure the exercise will have made up for it RG - well done!

(I am still pants)

wish my DH would have chocolate delivered to anywhere!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/04/2009 22:08

Well done on getting to the gym RG. I find the hardest part is leaving DD at the creche.

Not sure how long this leg is going to take to get better properly. Still having problems with it. Think I will book for the gym on Weds as normal, but speak to one of instructors about what I can do that won't play it up instead of my normal routine.

RGPargy · 21/04/2009 21:10

Evening ladies!

Went to the gym again today (DS looked after DD for me) and just did weights. I've booked DD into the creche again for tomorrow so intend to do some cardio tomorrow.

Feeling a bit peed off at the moment as so far it's taken 2 hours to try and get DD off to sleep and she's STILL up and now back downstairs sitting on the sofa next to me, after a shouting match between us. I hate shouting at DD and hardly ever EVER do it (i feel so guilty!) but i'm at the end my tether with her bloody bed time "routine". I'm sick of having to stand over her cot every night until she's asleep. She shouldn't be playing up every night at her age!! DP is working away yet again and so has escaped all this bloomin' palarva. AAAGGHHH!!!

Sorry for the rant, just need to vent - i can feel tears welling up with frustration this end!

OP posts:
vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 21/04/2009 21:37

you have my sympathy RG, that's what all of mine were like for sleeping. It's no fun. I was up til 2am with DS3 on Saturday night (he napped late in the afternoon as his proper nap got disturbed by the postlady)

am feeling crap and have turned to chocolate

RGPargy · 21/04/2009 21:50

Wish i had bloody chocolate Ria!! I'm stuck here while DS is out galavanting, DD is almost out of her full fat milk and i am now seriously contemplating going out to Asda with DD for a crappy food fix and some more milk!! I just left the room to go to the loo and she bloody went hysterical again! FFS!!! I suppose i can wave bye bye to my adult evening time!!

OP posts:
vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 21/04/2009 21:59

don't want to depres you further, but I totally blame my lack of proper grown-up evening time for why I eat crap and drink too much once they are finally asleep. Because it makes me feel like a grown up!

I probably should get some kind of counselling for that

DD would probably love a late-night Asda trip!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 21/04/2009 22:05

RG - glad you posted that about the gym, it reminded me to book DD into the creche for tomorrow morning Thigh still wobbly, so will have to take it easy. No squats and lunges I think, but should be able to do a round of arm weights instead and plenty of abs work. Will have a chat with one of the instructors and see what they recommend.

RGPargy · 21/04/2009 22:06

Oh i think i'm the same Ria. Think i'll get some wine too while i'm up there!

What's more annoying is that DD is sitting in the front room making mess of her toys that i just tidied up!! lol!

Think i need to go to Asda for my sanity. Might do some shopping while i'm there....

If she doesn't settle at the creche tomorrow i really WILL cry!!

OP posts:
vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 22/04/2009 13:13

how was Asda RG? (do they open 24hrs?)

went for a 45 mins walk round the lanes after dropping DS2 off at school. lovely day

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 22/04/2009 13:37

Hi ladies, how are things?

I made it to the gym Did two gentle circuits instead of 3 intense ones but better than nothing And the thigh feels pretty goodd for it actually, so hopefully a couple more easy sessions and I can start building up again.

Had chicken & broccoli pasta bake at the children's centre for lunch. DH is out for dinner tonight so in theory I shouldn't have to cook now as me & DD have had a cooked meal. But can I then make it through an evening on my own without snacking if I've had an early sandwich tea with her? Perhaps I should buy some extra carrots and low fat snacks when we go out later just in case?
