I was so rude last night . I totally forgot to congratulate katiestar on her 4lb loss Sorry katiestar, and well done!

Have fun jousting Ria, and let me know how the bolognese turns out. I'm making curry with left over lamb.

Only had 2 chocs from the little box my DSis sent yesterday. DD had 1 and DH ate the rest . My plan is to try to eek the choc out as long as I can - but as we all know easier said than done. But I love seasonal variety and celebrations and would have been really really not to have got any easter eggs, so I guess I can't have it all ways.

katiestar · 13/04/2009 19:49

Well we had a lovely day today. We took the 4 DCs on a walk with a picnic lunch in Nidderdale (if any of you watched the F word where Janet street Porter rears the veal) miles from there.)
We managed to walk 3.25 miles in 5 hours !!so not exactly brisk but very hilly. On the way back we met a huge dog .It was a soft friendly thing but DD2 who is not yet 4 was frightened when it came bounding up and pushing at her.She screamed and ran and of course the dog followed her and she got more and more frightened until we caught up with her and picked her up.The dog's owners who had seen the whole thing and not bothered to call the dog back came by.I told them they should keep it under control .They turned really nasty and said that we should walk along the road if we didn't want to meet animals!! (the road being narrow and having no footpath and hardly any verge. So I was really upset and shaken as I don't really like confrontation.I was desperate for a sugar fix but as we had no food with us wasn't able to !
(to any dog owners : I am sorry if I sound unreasonable.I do like dogs I just thought these owners were irresponsible in not calling their dog back when it was terrifying a small child)
The gym I go to runs exercise classes too , free to members.I have always fancied having a bash at Yoga but don't know what to expect really.Does/has anyone else any experience? .

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/04/2009 20:55

I am on your behalf Katiestar! Walk on the road indeed! You have every much right to walk where you want as they have, and if their dog was upsetting your child (especially with a young child) they SHOULD have tried to take control!

Glad you had a nice day out other than that though

I recently started a yoga class that runs near my work on a Tues lunchtime. I'm lucky in that it's free - the guy does it voluntarily and it's in a work building so no room fees either. What we do is a series of moves/positions, all gently (or occasionally not quite so gently or so it feels!) stretching the body. Some are held for quite a while (or again that's what it feels like), some are more fluid, you follow a movement. It's OK, but personally I prefer Pilates. But this class is in my lunchtime so no need to arrange child care or anything plus as I said it's free, so I'd be churlish to turn it down. If you give it a go let me know how you get on?

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 13/04/2009 21:15

for you katie. country code I would be tempted to have this printed out as a handout for next time! (i am not a dog-hater either, and hope one day to have a chocolate lab or a retired greyhound, but my boys are all terrified of strange dogs)

I love that area (actually, I love most of North Yorkshire) DS1 is coming to Bewerley Park in September with school (and I am a bit cos I went there too when I was at school and it was one of the best things I ever did)

I also from the sugar rush thing when I get unexpectedly upset/angry.

I had a very nice day exercising my eyes checking out the jeans clad bottoms of the jousters while they were packing up

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 13/04/2009 21:16

that should be a BTW!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 13/04/2009 21:44

I feel very [guilty] as the phone rang when I was doing some exercise (pilates) and by the time I'd chatted to my friend I couldn't be bothered to go back to it.

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 14/04/2009 09:29

at least you'd started jammy, not put off starting until after the phonecall so not bothered at all.

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 15/04/2009 10:00

I am having a BAD week. not eating anything nice, just stuffing in crap

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/04/2009 14:17

Aw Ria, that's a shame. If you're going to eat things that maybe you shouldn't, it's at least nice of they are yummy!

RGPargy · 15/04/2009 21:05

Same here Ria! In fact, i dont think i've had a "good" week for months!

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 15/04/2009 21:47

I had a "good" day then blew it by having crumpets because I was bored and lonely

RGPargy · 15/04/2009 22:45

awww Jammy. Crumpets are rather lovely tho!!

OP posts:
vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 15/04/2009 22:51

mm, crumpets with butter and golden syrup

am having nice treats tonight, Phileas Fog mexican sweet chilli crisps and garlic dip, and a glass or two of wine (purely medicinal - I decided when the kids were asleep I would spring clean the living room and have pulled my back), and I have a creme egg twisted.

If my back gets really bad again though I will have to do something and fast, but not today!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 16/04/2009 07:43

Oooh Ria, hope your back is OK.

If I'd stopped at crumpets it might have been OK. But I then found chilli snacks and oatcakes and PB Ah well, today is a new day!

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 16/04/2009 08:46

each day is a new day!

Am feeling a bit grim. Had more paracetamol when I got up and I don't know if it's that or the pain making me feel sick. just had a bacon butty to see if that helps. Luckily moving about isn't too bad, it's just like a nasty niggly pain atm.

RGPargy · 17/04/2009 10:07

Morning ladies

Ria - hope your back gets better soon!! I must admit i did have to giggle at the bacon butty. I like your therapy!

Jammy - oh well, nevermind. As Ria says, every day is a new day.

I'm feeling a bit optimistic today! I was quite good yesterday and I'm very proud of myself (compared to what i would normally stuff!).

Yesterday i had:

  • Homemade cheese scone (bad, i know, but i could not resist as they are TDF)
  • Muller Yog with small pack of Fruit & Fibre mixed in
  • Chicken salad for lunch
  • WW yog
  • Pear & Clementine thingy
  • Hot choc (to beat the vending machine cravings)
  • Beef stir fry with rice (quite a big portion tho, although the veg itself is probably zero points)
  • Tube of smarties

That's pretty good for me on a work day!

Well, yesterday i was browsing the net and looking at gyms again. I quite like the Virgin gym that's near me. I remember it when it was an Esporta gym and it was very posh way back then (when i was slim and uber fit). They've got a creche there too so Ellie could pop in there for a couple of hours while i work out during the day. I've never left her before (other than with MIL) so i'm a bit nervous about that. Having said that, now that she's used to going to her playgroup, whenever we go anywhere where there's toys, she's normally off on her own playing anyway so i'm sure she'll be ok.

I happened to mention to DP that i'd been looking at gyms again and i thought he'd blow a gasket but instead he just said "oh right. Will you actually go this time tho?". I must admit i was a bit by his reaction as i thought he'd say no way jose!! Thankfully Virgin have some non-contract options (only off peak tho) so i'm going to go along and have a look and then join up and see how i go for a couple of months. If i start going religiously for, say, 6 months, i might think about joining properly.

Ooooo sorry for the mammoth post!!!

OP posts:
vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 17/04/2009 11:51

well done RG. you did enjoy the gym before didn't you, and if you don't get tied in to a contract then it's no bad thing. DS1s tennis have offered us weekly payment instead of termly so he can go next term, this year I might pay the £40 for family use of the courts over the summer. It's childcare that's the problem for me as that gym has no creche, the one that does is 20min drive away, and that would only be any good during school time. Same with swimming, and as DS2&3 can't swim there's no opportunity to go off and swim by myself as DH couldn't manage them both, and DS1 not a strong enough swimmer to really help. Maybe now the evenings are lighter (and my DM&F will be away most weeks for a few days) I'll get doing my evening walks again.

The boys have friends over later so I am hoping to use the time to menu-plan and do my shopping list.

My back seems ok thanks, I am still a bit light headed though, so maybe it wasn't the paracetamol and I have a bit of a virus or something. Might try bacon butty therapy again though (not that it worked!)

also sorry for mammoth post!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/04/2009 12:51

Well yesterday wasn't so great, as DH & I shared our easter egg last night. But I put on a skirt this morning that is way too big now () which makes me feel really skinny (even though I'm still of whale proportion ) and is being very inspiring! So I'm set back on the right path for a while longer at least

Good on you for going back to the gym RG. I go twice a week now to the gym and once for a swim and I love it!

RGPargy · 17/04/2009 13:06

I think the thing with gyms and me is that when DP and I both joined Fitness First, we used to go together. Trouble is, he gets bored easily and used to finish before me and then just hang around and say "are you nearly done yet?". I wouldn't be nearly finished but would just finish up anyway because i felt guilty for him hanging around and i think after that, i just kinda lost interest as i didn't want to feel guilty. If he doesn't join with me then i dont have to feel guilty! I think i will try and go twice during the week and then once at the weekends when he can look after DD (and it wont cost us money!).

OP posts:
JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/04/2009 20:51

I've eaten the "right" things today, I've done some walking and Pilates and what is my reward? A pulled inner thigh muscle! That's my weekend's exercise out of the window

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 17/04/2009 22:05

jammy. how about swimming?

I have shopped and sort-of planned (although couldn't get some of the stuff I wanted and will have to go to morrisons on Monday). I am giving RC another go, and I am going to do the kick-start plan again, which is probably silly given the calories allowed, but I feel like I won't be trying properly unless I follow the book. I am going to be lenient though and if I get faint and dizzy again I will have a piece of toaat (no butter) and a highlights drink in reserve. And if I get through to next Saturday without cheating I might have a bottle of wine for the weekend!

RGPargy · 17/04/2009 22:20

Jammy, that's a bugger isn't it!

Ria - go for it! Hope you get through the week ok with RC. In the scheme of things, it's not really THAT long is it. At the end of the day it's only five days.....

Going to have a look at the gym on Sunday!

OP posts:
vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 17/04/2009 22:28

am starting tomorrow

if I try and fail at least I'm trying, and that has to better than not trying at all? and I might just do it

I know I keep saying it but it WILL be better when DH gets sorted at work, cos then we'll stop treating ourselves with "bad" food (cos it's a cheap treat), and we'll get into a routine with time and stuff, so I'll eat with the kids instead of waiting, and will beable to work out when is best to exercise etc.

There IS some logic in my argument somewhere!

katiestar · 18/04/2009 08:33

Bad luck Jammy, on the pulled muscle Could you do some upper body exercise do you think ??
i am back from a few days camping with the family.I was sure I would have burned some calories just trying to keep warm !!However my 'official' weighing day is tomorrow but a sneak weigh in shows I haven't lost a thing So I am going to try and be uber good today.Unfortunately DH is feeling unwell. He started off yesterday morning with a really bad stomach ache and it hasn'r improved at all in 24 hours (he ate lots of barbequed meat onthe trip ).So I can't really go to thge gym and leave him with the kids. Will try to kick the kids off the TV long enough to do Davina or Martine MaCutcheon DVD.Also the houseis a complete tip and housework should burn off some calories surely ??
Variety - what is RC ?

vaRIAtyisthespiceoflife · 18/04/2009 09:39

hi katiestar, glad you're back (was worried you'd left us). where did you go camping (oh you brave person)? did you have a nice time?

I believe in housework as exercise, but it doesn't seem to do much for me! I have a list somewhere of how many calories it burns off though.

RC is Rosemary Conley (GI Jeans diet). I am relieve to confess I am the same weight today as I was last time I started theis the otehr week and as I have had chocolate every day that is pretty good. Now to make some effort.

I just have to say I think the simplybe advert on the TV is silly.

how's the leg today jammy?
