No Champs! Don't say that!!! I really really need to finish this degree before baby number 2 decides to happen. I think my PhD could survive one sproglet, but not two!
Halloumi is quite salty with a rubbery texture that makes your teeth squeek. Don't know why, but that does it for me.

champs · 23/04/2005 23:51

Ox -- lol, wont say another word about the matter is it like mozzerella at all?

OP posts:
OxyMoron · 24/04/2005 12:55

Closer to feta, but not as sharp. And a lot squeekier.

glitterfairy · 24/04/2005 16:55

Hi guys and thanks for the good feelings wafting across the net to me. I am off tomorrow to venice to try and get some much needed perspective and rest, partly with DH to discuss how things are going and partly to try to think about what I want in life as well. I may come back a free single woman or not who knows?

Anyway will probably eat my weight in pasta and red wine but on my return am going to take hold of my life and change things alot including my diet and exercise back to normal as I feel so much better when I stick to things and really work at it.

Champs hun lots of love and kisses.

WideWebWitch · 24/04/2005 17:53

Good luck with the trip glitterfairy. Ooh I like Haloumi. Grilled.

I have been baaaaaaaaaad this weekend. Just today for eg, I had

toast (fine)
roast pork (hmm, not so bad)
broccoli, good!
carrots, ditto
green beans, ok
CRACKLING, OH NO!
Gravy!
Wine!
Strawberry cheesecake!
Vienetta! (I don't even like it ffs!)
coffee and walnut cake!
Shortbread biscuits!
I blame the ILS, they brought it all here, sigh.

And then we went out and I bumped into an old (platonic, we were 14) boyfriend who I hadn't seen since I was 25. That brought me up short I can tell you. Bet he thought, oh dear, she hasn't aged well.

I am not even going to have Friday off next week. Thanks for listening.

WideWebWitch · 24/04/2005 17:53

Champs, no, is not like Mozzarella. I think you will have to buy some!

moonshine · 24/04/2005 21:49

Good luck Glitterfairy - enjoy some good pasta and wine and don't feel guilty about it!

Oh no crackling! I love love love it, along with chicken skin and other similar things - always makes me think of that rhyme 'Jack Sprat could eat no fat, his wife could eat no lean'. But well done for not putting on (those that didn't).

Champs - I feel for you. It's hard not to answer the demands of a pregnant body so don't be too hard on yourself. Sounds as if you do very well some of the time so it's not all bad (I was a greedy heifer during both pregnancies - and after).

Good luck all this week. After all, as Scarlett O'Hara said, tomorrow is another day (cue music...)

PuffTheMagicDragon · 24/04/2005 21:57

My mouth is watering here - haloumi cheese - yum, coffee and walnut cake - yum yum.

Enjoy Venice Glitterfairy - had a long weekend there a few years ago - what a magical place.

I have had to buy a few new clothes (nothing exciting) as I do look like a bag lady in some of the bigger stuff and my trousers were actually falling down.

I'm off to Barcelona next weekend and I am going to stuff my face and deal with the consequences on my return!

champs · 25/04/2005 19:18

Ox -- right it's all your fault, I brought some!! not even gonna look at calories whats the best way to eat? do you grill it on bread?

glitter -- enjoy your time away, sounds like it could just be what you need. mmm pasta, and authentic too! could be worse you could be going to belgium, crepes, waffles and every other shop a choc emporium!!!!

www -- yep you're right, got some!! oo and that strawberry cheese cake ..... no fair you'r not helping my sweet tooth

puff -- that's brilliant. I am 3/4 happy but must admit, 1/4 jealous well you deserve it hun, all the hard work you've put in. Cant begrudge you one bit.

moomshine -- you are lovely! I have now got a liking to wagon wheels strange thing is i want it toasted with cheese cant bring myself to try it.

Bran -- hi!! how's everything?

champs · 25/04/2005 19:28

OP posts:
moonshine · 25/04/2005 20:45

Wagon wheels with cheese - [splutter emoticon] - yikes!

I also have never had halloumi cheese and await your report Champs with interest (but not on the WW & cheese)!

WideWebWitch · 25/04/2005 20:58

Eeew at Wagon Wheels and cheese. Well, even at Wagon Wheels on their own actually, yuk! Puff, I think you should indulge if you're in Barcelona, wow, sounds lovely. Champs I want to know what you think of halloumi - someone once told me it's strained through old ladies' knickers! but I'm sure he was making it up. He was Greek though!

Well, I finally weighed myself. And, ta da, I am the same as I was about a month ago, so a total of 1.5 stone lost since Jan. And I'm pleased since at least I know now what I weigh and at least I haven't put any on. So my aim is to lose another half stone by 18 May, which is the anniversary of my dad's death. No reason, just thought I'd pick a memorable nearish date to give myself a target. I've been much better today:

1 piece toast, olive spread, marmite
1 sesame snap (165 cals)
half an avocado
50g smoked salmon
2 apples
salad with rocket, tomatoes, tiny bits of fried bacon - oil blotted off on kitchen roll - dressed with lemon juice
boiled potato salad with honey & mustard dressing (no mayo)
1 pitta with hummus
a mouthful of smoked salmon
2 pieces salami (about 50 cals each I think)
loads of cherry tomatoes
50 cal dark chocolate
water

No booze and about 40 minutes walking. So not bad, onwards! Thanks for listening!

PuffTheMagicDragon · 25/04/2005 21:42

Well done for maintaining your weight WWW recently - I think that's an achievement, and you've done really well overall since you started.

champs · 25/04/2005 23:54

wow well done puff!

bran · 26/04/2005 18:40

Hello all, I'm here and I'm eating whenever I get the chance. Why aren't all you mums as thin as rakes? DH and I just never seem to have the time to eat, we're permanantly starving. Today I had a sandwich for lunch on the way to the foster mother's house, dh had to feed it to me every time we got to a red light, not very good for the digestion. Still, Branboy is moving to us permanently tomorrow so no more commuting. At the moment we have to to 2 return trips a day to pick him up and drop him back, 40 mins each way approx, which means we lose 2hrs 4mins of valuable eating time every day.

I'm glad to see that this thread is picking up again, it's definitely the nicest one on Mumsnet, if you don't mind I'll loiter around here until I go back on the diet (I'm giving myself about 3 weeks to get used to motherhood and then I'm going to knuckle down).

Don't do the WW and cheese Champs, that sounds revolting. My mother always maintained that there was no such thing as pregnancy cravings, it was just that women wanted an excuse to eat things that they wouldn't normally allow themselves, but I can't believe that you've always had a secret yearning for WW with cheese.

Glitter, hope your trip away went well, I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you whatever you decide.

WideWebWitch · 26/04/2005 20:48

Welcome bran! TheVillageIdiot posted on the cliches thread (very funny, here for anyone who hasn't seen it) something like, "I eat 2 cheesecakes and 10 portions of chips a day, why can't I lose weight?" Oh no, that's ME!

Came here to post my food diary since I feel better if I tell myself I have to report in:

2 pieces toast, olive spread, marmite
2 apples
1 sesame snap
sandwich made with 2 pieces bread, no spread, hummus and cucumber
About half a Pizza Express Margherita pizza (children's tea oops) so I reckon about 350 cals
5 fishfingers = 250 cals
bowl of cherry tomatoes with balsamic vinegar
50 cal dark chocolate

So I reckon I had around 1600 cals, plus I walked to school and back one way and did loads of housework. Thanks for listening!

bran · 26/04/2005 20:51

Strangely I have just read that thread (still sniggering) and I did think of you when I read that bit

PuffTheMagicDragon · 26/04/2005 20:52

Welcome bran

www - that thread has made me laugh too - I'm a fat sod, but getting thinner by the minute (reckon I'll still be a sod though )!

moonshine · 26/04/2005 22:00

Well done Puff. I still can't get over how much you have lost already. Have a good time in Barcelona (yum, lots of lovely tapas and beer).

Bran - lol at your new weight-loss resource (Branboy). Yes you run round after them but then spend the rest of the evening relieving the stress of it all with much food and drink. Or is that just me then???

Do you think Champs has gone into a wagon wheel and halloumi cheese-induced coma somewhere?

champs · 27/04/2005 23:20

Bran!! Hi!! How is it going branboy came today didn't he? hope all is going well. Please do float around me ww buddy I can honestly say I have never had a secret yearning for ww and toasted cheese LOL,
www -- will look at that thread in a bit. you are really doing well with food diary, noset queastion, do you ever feel like eating something else? your diary is so strong willed just want some tips on how you abstain. i need all the tips i can get.

LOL@moonshine nope still here, not piped up courage to try it yet. I am worried it will be as disgusting as it sounds!!
