Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

spokette · 01/09/2008 13:07

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

Still haven't received the book! ugh!

Are you all using all the supplements? They seem pretty costly to me. I know you can use spinach in place of the green food but I don't know if that is just a stop-gap or something to be relied upon.

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 24/10/2008 14:56

Im not going to use any supplements, but I do take vitamins anyway. Although Im planning to keep one meal a day purely from a work aspect really, but will make sure its a healthy one.

Lizzylou · 24/10/2008 15:38

I havn't been using any supplements, feel fine and not hungry.
You can get them from Holland and Barrett way cheaper?

DivaSkyChick · 24/10/2008 15:57

I'm on prenatals anyway so hopefully I'll be gettting all I need. I'm not pregnant, btw, taking them just in case!

lisasimpson · 24/10/2008 17:56

I have got the 7lbs in 7 days book from the library and bought everything in as DH and I are going to start tomorrow. The trouble is I eat lots of sugar/carbs so surely I am going to feel ravenous for the first couple of days?

Beetroot · 24/10/2008 18:08

It fiils you up - really.

I am starting in a week

omg the ones Im making are so lovely!! I keep tasting them expecting them to be vile but so far nope.

Jeepney · 25/10/2008 03:05

In my enthusiasm for starting I told DP that we needed to go shopping today for a juicer:

DP: We already have a juicer
Me: No we don't thats a blender
DP: Whats the difference
Me: A blender chops it all up a juicer extracts just the juice
DP: So why don't you just blend it then put it through a seive!

Can you imagine how long that would take me!! Having to strain everthing!! He thought it was a great idea!! The best part is he has decided he will do it too so wants me to blend and strain for the both of us!

lol at sieve argos has a reduces one just now, 24.99 used to be 30/40 something, thats the one I got.

Beelliesebub · 25/10/2008 10:49

I've been watching this thread with interest and I've decided to have a bash too! It seems like a fantastic idea, I've thought for years that the reason there's a lot of obesity about nowadays is because of all the crap they put in our food. Because of this I won't eat stuff like sausages and burgers and recently I'm convinced I'm allergic to bread.
I recently had to follow a pre-op diet and all I could eat was fruit, yoghurt and milk.... and I felt fantastic. I wasn't hungry at all and I had loads of energy but since I've been eating normal food I feel like crap again, so this juicing lifestyle seems like a follow on IYSWIM.
What's the 24.99 juicer from argos like pcdtt. I've just got it but haven't used it yet.... I'm waiting for my book to get here....

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 25/10/2008 12:33

seems quite good, never had any others so cant compare. bits to clean are - the juice holder, the pulp holder, the see through lid, the white bit and then the filter type thingy. All the bits are really easy to clean just run under warm water before you drink the juice and then wash them properly whenever. the filter thing is harder to clean, i can see me having a falling out with it

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 25/10/2008 13:01

I feel like a bit of a failure, had 2 juices this morning, went shopping and while I was there started to feel really wierd, like light headed and my tummy felt empty. It felt just like when I was a teenager and anorexic and I used to drink loads of diet coke, I felt like that. I didnt feel hungr to much as empty and floaty. So have had an omlette with mushrooms and feel normal again.

I love the taste of the juices and can totally understand the benefits of it etc but think Im going to still eat some things as I just cant cope on only juices, feel a bit crap like Im some greepy pig machine thing

GColdtimer · 25/10/2008 15:27

pumpkins, please don't feel crap or greedy. It sounds like that isn't a very good place for you to go in your head. There are lots of plans that combine jucing with proper meals and you will still loose weight. My DH hs been having a juice for breakfast and last thing at night and it has curbed his appetite and he has lost 7lbs without really trying. It is also about health too and if you are having a couple of juices a day, you are really benefitting on that front so please dont' feel you have failed because you had an omlette. There is no point doing it if it makes you feel ill.

A bit of a ramble there but I hope it helped a t bit.

spokette · 25/10/2008 15:52

Pumpkins, please do not feel down. Even if you eat a small amount of solids in combination to having the juices, you will still lose weight because the juices fill you up and curb your appetite.

Today I have had three glasses of the super detox juice (apples, celery, cucumber and spinach and I used a courgette for my powergreen) and will have a small solid dinner this evening plus I am making apple crumble as a treat.

I have never used any of the supplements he has recommended. The goodness from juicing vegetables and fruit is good enough for me and I feel wonderful!

Somebody asked about exercise. I go to the gym two or three times a week, do home exercise videos and outdoor running as well as walk as much a I can. Plus Mon-Fri I get up at 6.30am to do tummy exercises, press ups and stretches before I get my 4yo twins up for school and go to work.

I am committed to being fit and healthy, especially as I am 43yo and don't want to succomb to the middle age spread! Also, I don't feel or look middle age.

well we started today and I have had the mother of all headaches this afternoon - probably sugar withdrawal (funny I wasn't expecting that until tomorrow) and feel a bit light headed but I am enjoying the taste of the juices more than I thought I would!

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 25/10/2008 22:18

Thanks 2falls and spookette, I had a baked potato with beans tonight as well. So thats 2 meals and 4 juices I had. I will adjust the amount of food as to how I feel, but having gone from eating way too much to just juices was too much for me. Am eating much more healthily than I would be usually. Had a nice long bath earlier and read some Gillian McKeith which made me see some sence.

pumpkinscantdancethetango · 26/10/2008 09:21

Guess what I am just back from??? jogging not done that in years, just went round 2 blocks and didn't even jog for all of it power walked some - I just jogged as far as I could then walked, then when I felt ready I jogged again. Proud of myself, can't believe I found the energy to get up and go jogging on a Sunday morning!!!!

Beelliesebub · 26/10/2008 09:49

I am sooooo impressed.

Beelliesebub · 26/10/2008 09:49

I can't wait till my book gets here....

spokette · 26/10/2008 10:24

I went to the gym at 7.30am this morning. Ran for 20 minutes on treadmill, did 2000m row which took 10 minutes, 10 minutes on stepper follwed by long weight session. I was their for nearly 1.5 hours.

I feel wonderful!
