Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

spokette · 01/09/2008 13:07

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

just sat and read through this entire post and had to comment!

my friend bought a juicer a few weeks ago, made me one and i was hooked! i bought a juicer today and had one this evening.

2 small apples
1/2 pinapple
1 orange
1 banana (althought i found the banana didnt really work quite aswell lol)

really enjoyed it. had it after a meal of pasta and creme fraiche though and felt like i was ready to burst!

im following the scottish slimmers diet and was using juicing as my way of having my '5 a day' but after reading through this post, im thinking i should use a juice as an alternative to a meal? i may make up one 2nite and have it for breakfast 2mrw and have a light lunch and dinner.

i might invest in the 7lbs in 7 days book though. after reading all of your great losses its made me wanna give it a go!!

Rolacola · 20/10/2008 20:18

Some juicers can't cope with banana's or avocados. They have to blended and then you add the rest of the juice and blend all together.

Sorry if you already knew that; just thought I'd mention it.

Hope it goes well for you! The recipe sound yum!

GColdtimer · 20/10/2008 22:19

well done everyone. Just thought I would give you a quick update. I am now having a juice for breakfast, soup for lunch and a normalish dinner (but no potatoes, pasta or bread) and have lost 10lbs in 3 weeks. My target is a stone and am confident I can do it (although like spokette, I may try and loose a bit more to give myself some leeway for christmas!).

My appetite has also changed, I can't eat as much and I don't crave crap like I used to.

Rolacola - couldn't you just say you are on a 5 day detox if anyone asks. People seem to accept that a lot more than "I am dieting and am not eating solids". They seem to think that is a bit extreme, but detoxing is accepted, iyswim?

Good luck with it everyone!

Rolacola · 21/10/2008 09:24

Good idea. Thanks for that.

ClaudiaSlasher · 21/10/2008 09:51

Hi all

I am now on day 6 (i think, i do seem to have lost track a bit). I still feel pretty hungry a lot of the time, and also a bit mood swingy. Anyone else? Also I am getting a bit 'over' a liquid diet and do want to have some solid food quite soon. I will stick it out as I have one day left to go and I am LOVING the wight loss. Rather satisfyingly I am having to wear a belt on my jeans that only 5 days ago I could barely do up, I was bursting out of them they were so tight.

I do think this has really given me a good vitamin boost and has retrained my appetite. I really don't want to eat any crap food anymore. But I CANNOT BEAR all the sodding washing up of that bloody juicer.

I do want to lose a bit more weight tho, so will go onto his next stage, so still juicing but at least one solid meal a day for me.

Lizzylou · 21/10/2008 10:45

Well done all, this is such a good "eating" plan.

Well,I had a good time at the PIL's (so much food!) but juiced all day yesterday and will do today.
Ithink I will juice all week and allow myself "solids" (reminds me of bloomin weaning!) at the weekends, Sat evening and Sunday 1 meal).
Am very premenstrual and my completely scatty phase seems to have lifted on Saturday I was bonkers! Kept putting my foot in it and saying ridiculous things!

reikimarie · 21/10/2008 11:49

Rola a few months ago my bp was up high so I completely came off caffeine as I was drinking 7 teas a day and I had a terrible reaction and even felt nervy and shaky so in the end I just had one tea of a morning. It really helped! Probably better to go cold turkey if you can of course.

I'm starting the juice plan tomorrow, and thinking of trying to stick to 3 cups of tea as I can't really think straight without one, I know it isn't supposed to be in the plan but is a whole lot better than 6 or 7 like I was drinking before and I will be having just a bit of organic soya milk.

I bought the Phillips juicer that Jason Vale recommends which I must admit looks v impressive and the fantastic book for free (from Argos) that he also wrote, with great recipes in, also some for the children, called The Juice master, 100 delicious juices and smoothies. Of course I will be doing the 7 day plan according to his 7 lbs in 7 days book though. I just thought people might like to know it had children recipes in it. I am not sure if my toddler will want them though!

spokette · 21/10/2008 12:00

Well done everybody. I am so happy that I started this thread!

Even though I am not trying to lose more weight (DH told me to stop because he did not want me turning into a twig (lol)), I am still juicing because I love it. It is so healthy, the juices are delicious and I have so much energy. Last Friday I went to the gym for an hour followed by another hour of bums & tums! I then went to the gym at 7am Saturday morning for 1.5 hours at the gym. If it wasn't for the fact that I work and have twin boys to look after in the evening, I would do far more exercise(lol). I have booked an aerobic class at the gym for tomorrow evening and I try to go for walks at lunch time.

On the eating front, Mon-Fri, I have small bowel of branflakes for breakfast (extra fibre), juice or homemade vegetable soup during the day and small meals in the evening. I eat more at the weekend because of family and socialising.

Good luck everyone and keep up the good work!

You are so inspiring! Thanks!

iamamummy · 21/10/2008 14:13

day 2 again here - all good and finding this time around soooo much easier.

does anyone find the juicing makes them wee a lot more? i seem to be constantly needing a pee (sorry if tmi)

also i know in the book JV says not to use granny smith apples but has anyone actually tried them? i ordered tesco online the other day and my cox apples got subbed for granny smiths but i have been using them today and tbh cant really taste the difference? i find them quite tasty!

i hope you are all going to post your results at the end of the week.

xx

Lizzylou · 21/10/2008 16:27

I am weeing for England too (and Scotland, Wales etc) reminds me of being pg!

GColdtimer · 21/10/2008 22:05

oh yes, weed loads!!

imamummy, glad it is going well this time around. I think he says not to use granny smiths because they don't yield as much juice as other types of apples. I am sure they are fine, you perhaps just get a little less juice with them.

littleducks · 22/10/2008 10:08

ok am on day one here, got the book yesterday and read a bit and the following trip to sainsburys was exhausting, couldnt fit everything on the three day list in the pushchair, for bags of apples for gods sake.

Made two juices so far, one drunk one in fridge....as am at dentists lunchtime so will drink on way out

iamamummy · 22/10/2008 10:14

glad im not the only one with the flood gates open

i am finding granny smiths fine, that is usually my choice of apple over any of the others anyway! and there doesnt seem to be any difference in the amount of juice either.

i did a weigh in this morning just to see what was happening as so far i dont feel slimmer but i have lost 4 pounds i am also making a point of drinking 2 litres of water a day too.

littleducks - do you usually shop at sainsburys? i do normally but found buying fruit there was mega expensive so i switched to aldi and its practically half the price!

Lizzylou · 22/10/2008 11:19

I have lost 8lbs!, in 1 week and 1 day, with a "break" on Sunday when we visited IL's.
Am thrilled, loving my juices and hoping t get another 10lbs off before Christmas.
Am off to Spin Class tonight, cannot believe how much energy I have.
Spokette, you are a star for posting this!

CJMommy · 22/10/2008 11:31

Have just found this thread, read it all and am amazed - it all sounds too good to be true!! However, have just bought the book on-line, delivery on thurs so hopefully will look to start this next week sometime. Will let you know

poshtottie · 22/10/2008 14:39

Somebody said this was crash dieting on another thread. Not sure I agree. I feel very healthy and really wasn't doing it to lose weight.

iamamummy · 22/10/2008 15:33

its a lifestyle a great way to get your 5 a day too.

i feel energised and content on this programme - crash dieting all i can think about is food and the painful rumbling in my tummy.

Lizzylou · 22/10/2008 16:35

I can't crash diet, I just want more food if I do.
I am amazed at how easy and filing this plan is, I love my food so am looking forward to the weekend (have two meals out, yay!) but at least I know that I can regulate things by juicing for my other meals.

poshtottie · 22/10/2008 17:49

Well there is a big difference to that thread and this. Everyone on here is so optimistic and not obsessing about food.

I am not getting those hight and lows and dips in energy levels that I had before.
I have the girls over tomorrow night so there will be lots of food and wine. Will juice for breakfast and lunch.

littleducks · 22/10/2008 18:43

the only problem i am having is being arsed and being able to juice, maybe i should have bought the fancy pant juicer, as i am chopping lots

how do you all keep juices fresh, i made a juice this morning for luch and got back late and it was brown and rancid

GColdtimer · 22/10/2008 19:55

littleducks, I think you have to keep it in something airtight - like a vacuum flask. I know what you mean about the fancy pants juicer.

I agree poshtottie, everyone on here is very positive. And I love the fact that I can go out and eat nice meals guilt free when the occasion arises and just regulate it with juices during the day. Its a brilliant way to have the best of both worlds I think. I also think it is amazing what it has done to my appetite. I had a juice for breakfast, veggie stir fry for lunch with DH who works evenings so has his main meal at lunchtime. I had some fruit at about 5 and am about to do a juice now (hot apple and cinnimon). I would normally have been snacking all day.

I am so grateful to spokette for posting this because I was in a place where every time I stepped on the scales I seemed to have put on another pound. I am now nearly the same weight I was when I got married in just 3 weeks. Hurrah!

You are more than welcome. More the merrier here. And we are very merry you know.

I think a lot of people are recommending the phillips whole fruit juicer because you don't have to do any cutting. I have got the L-Equip mini pulp juicer and apart from having to cut up apples, it is really good. Speedy, quiet and very, err, juicy
