Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

This sounds great, but what concerns me slightly is what you do about family meal times. do you just not join in or do you drink your juice while they chomp away on their roast dinner? Would love to do this as I have a lot to lose (too many roast dinners obviously ) but am a bit worried about the mealtime aspect.

reikimarie · 19/10/2008 13:18

Thanks for that posh.

Surprise you could always serve up the family's food then go off jogging whilst they eat!

spokette · 19/10/2008 14:27

Surprise

At meal times, I went into the living room with my juice and a good book. By the time I got to day 4, it did not bother me because there was no way that I was going to succomb with just 3 days to go and the fact that my clothes were so loose on me.

Good luck if you give it a go.

Thanks for that posh tottie
Have found today hard and wondered if i could still lose some - though not the 7lbs i realise- by having the juices for breakfast and lunch and proteins for tea. Think i will give it a try, but 5 juices a day might fill me up!

ClaudiaSchiffer · 19/10/2008 21:46

Surprise, I had people over for lunch yesterday and managed to feed them and just sit with them and drink my juice, it was pretty anti-social and I did apologise and explain why I wasn't tucking in to a full meat-fest bbq and glug a wine lake, but they did seem to understand fine. And I did miss the food, as it looked lovely but was more determined to stick to the plan than eat with them iyswim. But then I am on day 5 now and like spokette just wanna stick with it, it may have been harder in the beginning.

To answer your questions UniversallyC, I usually have 4 juices in a day, yesterday I only managed 3 as was busy and was bloody starving so I wouldn't recommend it. I reckon 5 juices a day would be fine, have you got the book yet? Would you like me to post another recipe?

UniversallyChallenged · 19/10/2008 22:26

No i havent got the book yet - should be here tuesday I hope.
Yes, please post another recipe Claudia that would be great thanks

ClaudiaSchiffer · 19/10/2008 23:00

This is yummy

Juice Masters Turbo Express

1/4 small pineapple
1/2 stick celery
1 inch chunk cucumber
1 small handful spinach leaves
1 small piece peeled lime
2 Golden Delish or Royal Gala apples
1/4 ripe avocado
Ice

Juice the pineapple, celery, cucumber, spinach, line and apples. Place avocado flesh in blender/smoothie maker with ice and juice mix. Whiz for 45 secs - enjoy.

Yum yum yum, I can recommend the book. Tis very positive.

UniversallyChallenged · 19/10/2008 23:05

ooh thats the one I have been using!! It is amazingly yummy- even the dds liked it!

Is there one with carrots in your book Claudia if you dont mind posting it?

ClaudiaSchiffer · 19/10/2008 23:23

Here is one with carrot, but I did think it rather challenging on the taste front.

Juice Masters Super Chute Juice

2 apples
A small chunk of carrot
1/2 stick celery
1 large handful mixed leaves, watercress, parsley, kale, spinach - or whatever green leafy veg available
1 inch slice cucumber
1/2 inch broccoli stem
1 small handful alfalfa sprouts
1/4 inch slice unpeeled raw beetroot
1/4 inch slice courgette
1 small piece lemon - pref wax free with rind on
1/4 in slice ginger
Ice

Juice everything and add ice.

As I say, a bit of a challenge on the taste front but VERY good for you

ClaudiaSchiffer · 20/10/2008 04:12

oo here is another one with carrots which sounds a bit nicer.

Juice Masters Lemon/Ginger Zinger

2 carrots
2 apples
1 inch slice Lemon - where poss wax free and rind on
1/4 inch ginger
2 ice cubes

Juice the lot and pour over ice

DivaSkyChick · 20/10/2008 04:39

So which book are you all following? Vale seems to have a bunch of them and the 7b days book is not even the most recent.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 20/10/2008 06:58

I've got the 7lb in 7 days DiveSkyChick.

UniversallyChallenged · 20/10/2008 09:19

Thanks for those Claudia the 2nd one sounds lovely and easy will try it today

spokette · 20/10/2008 10:40

The lemon/ginger zinger is delicious.

I also like the apple cinnamon one. Juice 3 apples, warm and add a pinch of cinnamon. Enjoy!

So the recipes you're sharing now are from different books or your own personal recipes?

Thanks!

Rolacola · 20/10/2008 14:15

I read this thread last night, and felt really motivated. I have juiced today, but I'm really missing bread, and cups of tea. I'm only on day 1. Will it get better?

iamamummy · 20/10/2008 15:03

rolacola yes it definately will get better! stick with it. i lost 6 ppounds in the first week.
i am juicing again this week (had a break last week due to ds teething and not sleeping so had to eat to keep up my strength!)

good luck - its fab!!!

UniversallyChallenged · 20/10/2008 15:10

oh yum the carrot/lemon/ginger one is lovely!!

DivaSkyChick · 20/10/2008 15:53

I ordered the book because you lot make this seem so easy! Then I found out that our juicer only works with citrus.

What kind of juicer / extractor are you using? Anybody making due with a food processor?

poshtottie · 20/10/2008 16:01

diva, most of these recipies are from the Jason Vale's 7lbs in 7 days.

Rolacola, I found the first two days hell. I have not had tea/coffee for 8 days now or bread. Felt fantastic by day four but had a friend for dinner so I have been having juices for breakfast and lunch and then a veggie meal in the evening but no bread or desserts.

My favourite juice is the pineapple, banana, apple and natural yogurt. Its yummy!

poshtottie · 20/10/2008 16:04

diva you need a proper juice extracter. I have a magimix which are about £100 but there are lots of other cheaper alternatives around.

I have been buying my veggies at morrisons as it is so much cheaper though they don't stock alfalfa sprouts or fresh beetroot. I bought wheatgrass powder today and it was £11 Probably cheaper if you grow your own.

Rolacola · 20/10/2008 16:42

Thanks. I am struggling a bit- head aches & tired.. I think it's lack of caffiene. I usually drink 8-10 cups a day. . Do you think it could be that?

I'm going to have a 'proper meal' for tea. (Jacket potatoes)

Rolacola · 20/10/2008 16:50

Have just done the carrot, apple, lemon & ginger though. Yummy.

poshtottie · 20/10/2008 16:54

rolacola, I had the worst headache ever last Tuesday and was so tired I went to bed just after putting ds to bed at 7.30pm. I also left the handbrake off my car and it rolled into another car, I was so out of it.

Rolacola · 20/10/2008 20:01

I guess it's common with a detox-type diet.

I have work tomorrow; not really sure how to play it. Don't really want to draw attention to the fact I'm not 'eating', but drinking.

Any advice?
