Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

spokette · 01/09/2008 13:07

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

So who's gearing up for a New Year's 7 Day Juice detox? I know I am. I gained back nearly all seven pounds I lost - between Thanksgiving and Christmas and too many white russians in between!

Anybody too embarrassed to admit the weight gain, there! I've gone first. Join me in returning to the healthy life in the New Year?

OHBollox · 31/12/2008 11:25

I actually haven't put much weight back on but feel very sluggish and bloated.
I am going to juice properly this time and do the full detox because I did feel so much better last time even doing it part time.
DH is joining me so we'll support each other.

Am looking forward to it this time as I know it works.

bouncingblueberries · 31/12/2008 13:24

Well, I only managed to put on 2lbs over Christmas, so I'm very relived!

Tried to have as many juices and salads as possible and went for a run every couple days, so I think that really helped.

Planned a big family meal tomorrow, so I'll start juicing again in earnest on the 2nd January. Can't wait actually - felt really bloated and I seem to be unable to tolerate white bread now. Had terrible stomach cramps whenever I ate it over Christmas. No bad thing I suppose.

Good luck everyone! Looking forward to a juicy 2009!!

spokette · 02/01/2009 16:04

I put on nearly 5lbs over the festive season. Not worried though because I started juicing today and have been to the gym three times this week. I also intend to run three miles on both Saturday and Sunday so I know that I will lose the weight quickly

Yay! I'm glad to see you guys even if it's because we all put a little weight on. Spokette, you had lost more than you needed to anyway, hadn't you?

So I'm on day two and I feel great. The only thing I'm doing differently is replacing one juice with a little homemade soup from recipes earlier in the thread. I doubt that will make a huge difference but I'll let you know at the end of the seven days.

I'm also adding a teaspoon of brewers yeast to my morning juices and was considering adding some zero carb protein powder - had anyone tried or considered that?

spokette · 02/01/2009 16:26

I had lost more than I needed to but am use to the lower weight now so want to return to it which I will do by the end of next week hopefully!

I have not tried brewers yeast or zero carb protein powder but I don't see why you cannot do it.

Good luck!!

I only put on 3lbs so am very happy about that and will start juicing again monday to try and lose it.

deglectedhousewife · 03/01/2009 21:06

There are loads of pages to this thread which I have not read so forgive me if the answers are there.

But can I ask..

What happens when you get to goal, can you maintain the weight loss eating 'solid' food?

Don't want to be crude but are there any toilet based side effects?

Is it more/less expensive than your 'usual' weekly shop. Fruit and veg can be pricey?

I need to do something to help me with my weight loss, will it work if I juice for breakfast and lunch and have a solid, healthy, dinner?

Thanks.

OHBollox · 04/01/2009 21:41

I was a bit consipated on the juice diet and I have to say I never managed to completely stick to just juices, I admire anyone who can.
The juicing took away the snacking habit for me and I suspect it's along the same principal as slim fast and all those only obviously the fruit and veg is better for you and I would never usually have 5 portions of fruit and veg a day so reeped the benefits immediately of that, plus the water is good too.
Once you start eating again the main thing is you don't go back to eating crap and eating loads, hopefully you've reset your stomach to the amounts a slim person would eat and you've weaned yourself off carbs and sugar.
That's the answer to being slim for life i'm sure of it, just not sure I can do it but we can only try.
I've also bought the trampoline and video because I don't want to wear out my joints running and I want the kids to have a go too. I do think alot of the success is down to the hours exercise a day and the water though.

OHBollox · 04/01/2009 21:42

Oh the other thing I found out as well is drink the juices through a straw, it's very very bad for your teeth to have that much acid passing through and chew gum afterwards to neutralise the acids.
I would hate to be slim with no teeth left.

Hi, Can I join you lovely ladies please. I want to loose a couple of stone, but could do with losing about ten pounds in the next three weeks as am going on a hen night at the end of Jan and don't want to be the only fat one there.

Anyway I have ordered the books, although mail online have loads about it including recipes, ordered the juicer and cleared the cupboards out of junk! DH has promised to be supportive so it's all systems go for tomorrow when it should all arrive.

bouncingblueberries · 05/01/2009 14:27

Welcome new juicers!

I love juicing. I lost a stone before Christmas with hardly any effort and very little exercise in the early weeks.

Need to get back into it now but I'm still in comfort food mode! Only put 4lbs on over the festive period in the end, but want to lose another stone.

I reckon the secret to successful juicing is to be organised - make up juices in advance if you have to, but don't let yourself get hungry. That's the mistake I made today! But the beauty of it is, you can be really flexible with it but if you stick to it rigidly you will lose about 7lbs in one week! Woo hoo!

pinkblossom · 08/01/2009 11:13

Hello everyone. Can I join in ? I am on Day 4 of juicing and feel pretty good so far. Not that hungry and really enjoying the juices. Have got 3 stone to lose in total but will feel a lot better after losing 2 stone.

bouncingblueberries · 09/01/2009 08:02

Well done so far pink blossom!

I'm struggling to get back on the juice wagon at the moment - probably because I know it's so easy! Just keep saying, I'll start tomorrow, be a shame to waste that big tin of Roses and help myself to another scone - aargh! No more refined sugar!

Need to give myself a kick up the bum though. Those Christmas pounds aren't going to shift themselves.

Feel free fellow juices to also give me a kick.

pinkblossom · 09/01/2009 11:14

Day 5 today and I measured myself. Have lost an inch and a half of my tummy, half an inch off my hips and an inch of my boobs. Wow, I'm sooo pleased. Not going to weigh myself until I have been doing it for 14 days. Just had my juice about 15 mins ago as I am not hungry. How good is juicing?? Never thought I would not be hungry in the morning!!

bouncingblueberries · 09/01/2009 12:48

Aw I want to feel like that again!

[tantrum emoticon]

Thanks for the kick up the bum pinkblossom - needed to be reminded about how fab juicing is! Can't believe you've resisted weighing yourself yet - I bet you get a lovely surprise when you do!

pinkblossom · 09/01/2009 19:18

Lets hope so BBB!

slightlycrumpled · 09/01/2009 19:35

On day four here and I am also surprised at how easy it is. I can't wait to weigh myself to see how much I've lost.

I am also at how much fruit I'm getting through.

pinkblossom · 10/01/2009 10:57

When are you going to weigh yourself Crumpled? Are you going to after 1 week or 2? How much do you need to lose?

PersephoneSnape · 10/01/2009 11:02

just wanted to pop bac ki and let you all know how i've been doing - i currently have juice for breakfast, fruit for snacking, juice for lunch and a normal type of tea, but i tend to avoid pasta spuds etc until the weekend and try to keep protein to a fist sized portion. I started juicing on 7th november. I've lost 22lbs so far, with another 3.5 stone or so to go.

please stick at it anyone who is wavering. it's really worth it.

BlessThisMess · 10/01/2009 23:19

Just popping in to get myself on this thread so that I can keep coming back to it.

I read the thread a few weeks ago, borrowed the book from the library and then promptly lost it (there is a reason for this nickname...). Found it under my bed and have dug out my juicer, but am not going to start properly until after our holiday at Center Parcs next week! Am going to juice a couple of times a day until then, though, to get myself into the swing of it, and then go for it big time when I return!

pinkblossom · 11/01/2009 09:48

Good Luck BTM. It's really not too bad once you get into it!

bouncingblueberries · 12/01/2009 08:51

Thanks for the kick up the bum!

Slowly getting back into it now and have lost the first 2 lbs of my festive weight gain!

I've really noticed the difference in my skin and nails when I'm not juicing, so that alone is a good reason to get back into it properly!

Forgot to mention - my parents were so impressed by my weight loss that they went straight out and bought a juicer! Mum has a touch of arthritis but since she's been juicing, she keeps forgetting to take her pain killers! She found a recipe for an arthritis relief juice in the Keeping it Simple book and drinks it every day.

Good luck everyone!

chuffinell · 12/01/2009 09:34

Hi all and good luck to all those starting on the juice plan, its great!

i lost 10 lbs and dropped from a 14 to a size 12. i lapsed over Christmas and started to feel a bit pudgey so started juicing again over weekend, and my skin looks better already

boucingberries, my dad wants a juicer too! and my stepdaughter who is 19 has asked me to get her on the juice plan too, so i have left her a jug of juice in the fridge today

persephone - you have lost tons of weight, congratulations

bouncingblueberries · 12/01/2009 09:47

Oh my god persephone! Just read your post - what an amazing amount of weight you've lost! Well done! Keep up the good work!
