Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

spokette · 01/09/2008 13:07

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

Notamumyet

  1. I work full time, do you think its a practical plan to take the juices to work...

buy a couple of flasks like this. A few people have made up juices the night before and found it easier altho if you can make fresh, try to

  1. I cant imagine not sitting down to a meal with my DH every evening-

if you follow the juice yourself slim plan you could have a huge bowl of soup or massive salad in the evening - that's what worked for me. Others have followed the small, healthy meal option and been very successful though

  1. I eat loads of fruit a day anyway- will juicing make that much diference?

Yes yes yes!

  1. My main weight problem is I think from huge portion sizes

my problem exactly - juicing has totally changed my appetite, drastically reduced my snacking and made me very aware of portion sizesJust do it! But read one of the books first - they're essential to get you in the right mind set to succeed.

Good luck!

notamumyetbutoneday · 02/12/2008 13:38

thanks bouncing blueberries- it does seem do-able and the weight losses on here are just so amazing, I think "how can i not"?!

ive orderd the book off the internet so i guess thats the first step! now I need to get a juicer- ive had a look online and the choice is overwhelming but itll come down to cost- so close to christmas I cant justify spending a lot. may i ask what you use?

PersephoneSnape · 02/12/2008 17:29

i got a tesco value juicer for a fiver. it's not whole fruit, so you need to peel/core etc where appropriate, but it's a fab little thing. it'd do you until the january sales/after xmas if you then wanted to upgrade.

MarmadukeScarlet · 03/12/2008 11:05

Blueberries, you are so supportive - as are many others on this thread.

notamummy - I make up mune in advance most of the time because a) if you are having 2 the same in a row it cuts down on washing up and b) my DS has SN and is scared of the noise (or the sight) of any electrical item.

I have the philips alu that JM recommends my DH bought it for my birthday, it can go in the dishwaser as I thought the faff of cleaning it by hand all the time may be a barriers to me using it.

WEll 7 days was up yesterday. Despite me having butternut squash soup for supper 2 nights in a row and for lunch at the weekend, also I ate my pineapple 1/4 a few times rather than juicing it! I have lost 10lbs (or maybe 11, my floors are so uneven my digital scales struggle to remain on a number!).

I am not craving coffee and my appetite seems reduced (my issues was portion control too)1 bowl of thick bnsquash soup completely filled me up. Today so far I have had water and lemon plus a super juice (and a very stressful meeting with the school head, enough to normally make me pull into the shop on the way home for chocolate).

Am just about to make poorly DS some pancakes as he is starting ketosis (pear drop breath caused by keytones) so it will be a test of my resolve.

Well done all and keep up the good work!

badlashes · 03/12/2008 14:33

I'm on day 2 and finding it so hard

Really missing caffeine, had a banging headache all day yesterday. Hated the taste of the turbochute juice and finding it really hard to face drinking any more - plus it is so so cold, I'm missing warm food more than I thought I would!!

I didnt have time to make my juice this morning so I have a shop bought smoothie with me - is that allowed??

Also, would I still lose if I had soup at dinnertime?

Tell me it gets better!!

notamumyetbutoneday · 03/12/2008 16:10

wow marmaduke, your loss is so impressive. I have ordered both book and argos juicer so waiting for them to arrive, in preparation so to speak i made a batch of homemade soup last night and had that for dinner last night and lunch today to try and wean myself off huge portions!

its good to know about making them in advance, it wouldnt be practical for me otherwise- dont think my colleagues would be too impressed if i was juicing at my desk!

KatieDD · 03/12/2008 21:52

I have lost 4lb's in about 10 days and I am so bad it's not funny, have had mince pies and all sorts, so if it's helping me there's hope for everyone.
Am going to really go for it tomorrow as I must say I am not craving biscuits and rubbish anymore which is fantastic.

I make up 4 juices at a time as I'm lazy and didn't know my juicer could go in the dishwasher, good old mumsnet.

MarmadukeScarlet · 03/12/2008 22:40

Katie, I think the Phillips ones are the only dishwasher safe ones - I would check your instructions if you still have them. TBH I usually stick it straight in a half filled sink of hot water and wash it myself as my Neff dishwasher is naff and it doesent come out that clean.

Badlashes, the first 2 days were awful for me. I hated the turbochute, I'm sure that was what made me feel sick. I haven't had one since the first day! The second day I went without and by the third I had discovered 'passion 4 Juice master' which, despite its crap name, is actually yummy and filling!

Try the hot 'n'spicy (apple juice and cinnamon) if you need something hot. My best tip for juicing (if I am notjuicing and storing them)is that I get several decent sized plastic boxes so when I cut up my pinapple/cue etc I make up several boxes of complete ingredients ready for each juice iyswim. I do this at night before bed, so in the morning when I am rushing I can just wizz them through.

Also I'm sure it will not matter if you make some carrot and butternut squash soup (or similar) with an eye on how much fat you put in (I saute an onion in a little olive/veg oil, add cubed bns/carrot (and sometimes a spud to help thicken it up) and saute for a while stirring. Add veg stock (stock cube and water)and simmer. allow to cool and use a hand held blender to smooth it.) As long as not reams of fat, flour etc I can't see the harm. I have not read the 14 day book so may be a proper receipe in there. I had one bowl of soup per day from day 4.

Thank you notamummy I have quite a lot to lose, so the more you weigh the more you lose. I am a size 16 (monsoon) trouser size 18-20 top which doesn't sound too huge but I must have very dense bones as I weigh , ahem, rather a lot! The worst part is I bought some size 12 (phase 8) trousers for my friends wedding reception last Dec, so it has crept on rather quickly this last year.

I feel more energetic and happy than I have in ages, weight was really getting me down to the extent I had stopped caring how I looked wearing jeans and a fleece most days as it was all I could fit into etc. I still haven't had a coffee and I used to drink 8 cups most days, plus diet cokes as well. I still can't get my sallopettes done up as have only lost 1" from my waist (2 from hips) but have 10 days another " should do it!

Jeepney · 04/12/2008 07:14

Hello everyone! After a busy few weeks with my sil here I am back on the programme! I didn't manage to stick to it at all while she was here but had a lovely time so I don't mind!

I am on day 4 of the 7 days and really just plan to keep just having the juices until I go back to Uk for xmas in the hope that I lose a lot!

My main issue is the weekends. I don't mind having the juices during the day then having a healthy meal if I go out but its the alcohol that really buggers it up for me. I end up drinking far too much then getting a macdonalds on the way home Then the next day the only thing I want is carbs carbs and more carbs to soak up the excessive alcohol! This weekend I have resolved to be better!! We are going out Friday and Saturday but both nights are to places where a healthy option is available. And we are going with a couple where the woman is pregnant so I doubt drinking will be bad!

I haven't weighed myself yet as I am trying to leave it for at least 7 days but the scales seem to be calling to me!! I am doing lots of exercise and I do think I look a little better.

Does anyone have any other juice / smoothies recipes they can post on here that are different to the big list I posted way at the bottom?? On 29 Oct. I'm getting a little bored of always having the same things!

Good luck to everyone!!

chuffinell · 04/12/2008 13:56

just popping my head round the door to report that...i have squeezed into a lovely black dress from Next.

its a size 14 which isnt tiny, but i would have looked terrible in even a 16 just a month or 2 ago - before juicing! but its quite tight and i even bought a red belt to pull it in - and some control top tights ha ha

i am so chuffed, keep up the juicing everyone, and to those just starting - you wont regret it, i promise

i am carrying on till i am 9.5 stone so a while to go yet. good luck everyone

bouncingblueberries · 05/12/2008 11:53

Welcome back Jeepney!

Chuffinell - that is amazing! I'm also down to a size 14 and it feels great!

Been a bit too snack happy with the old mince pies over the past few days, so have put a pound back on. But I defy anyone to eat mince pies and not put on weight!

Keep up the good work everyone

DivaSkyChick · 05/12/2008 20:56

Hey Jeepney! Welcome back.

The soups you posted have been invaluable for me. Here are some juices from the Turbo Charge your Life book:

Ultimate Smoothie - serves 2 (unless you're me!)
4 Golden Delicious Apples
2 sticks celery
4 carrots
1 cup spinach
1 cup broccoli
1/2 yellow pepper
1/2 orange pepper
1/4 lime
flesh of 1 entire ripe avocado
ice

Apparently you blend one of the apples rather than juice it, with the avocado and ice.

Mean Green Wake up Machine
1/2 cucumber
1 stick celery
1 cup spinach
6 green apples (golden delicious)
1/4 lime, peeled,
1/2 inch fresh ginger

put all in the blender

Green Means GO - serves 2
1 small pineapple
2 apples
4 good handfuls spinach
1 inch ginger root
2 inches fennel
1/4 lime
ice

be sure to follow the ginger, fennel and lime with an apple to help get all the juice out.

Turbo Charge Weekend Breakfast Smoothie
1 small pineapple
2 handfuls blueberries (or any berries you can get, fresh or frozen)
4 tbls live yogurt
handful of soaked almonds (best to soak overnight. obviously unsalted)
1tbsp organic Manuka honey

Juice pineapple and 1 handfull of blueberries. blend with yogurt, remaining berries, nuts and honey until smooth.
sounds gorgeous!

Cranberry Delight
1 mango
1 orange
125g (4 1/2 oz) cranberries
1tsp Manuka honey
1/2 root ginger
ice
juice then blend with honey and ginger

Nerve Calmer
1/2 fennel, outer part removed
2 apples
1/2 root ginger
ice

chuffinell · 09/12/2008 10:32

Hi all

well done to you too bouncingblueberries, we have done good!

i am sooooo pleased to report that i have bought my first SIZE 12 JEANS for years!! i didnt even need to shoehorn myself into them, i was so pleased i bought 2 pairs - they are a lovely fit, and really comfy, i really recommend them, john rocha slimfit bootcut

the scales are not budging lower than 10st 3lb thou, which is a bit frustrating - i only have 2 weeks to my Christmas day deadline of 9st 13

i tried the butternut squash and carrot soup recipe that jeepney posted a while ago and its really nice. i will try some of the turbo juices, thanks for putting them on divaskychick

missnatalie · 09/12/2008 15:08

Hi ladies, can i come back please . Havnt had any sickness episodes for about 10 days now so i think my tummy is better. Going to start the juices again on Monday. Not doing the 7 day plan though as dont want to make myself bad again. Going to have lots of juice plus 1 x healthy meal a day. Am still determined ot get down to that 11st.

bouncingblueberries · 11/12/2008 10:38

Welcome back MissNatalie

I've been a bit lapse on the juice front recently. I've got another stinking cold and yesterday just really wanted something comforting, so ended up having some leftover beef casserole for lunch and then soup for dinner.

Have been craving curry (always do when I have a cold!), so going to make one tonight as a special treat Nice and spicy to blow away this cold I think.

Could do with losing another couple of lbs before Xmas - I'm only 1 BMI point away from being within my healthy weight range. So close!

Lets rally round girls and give each other a final push before Xmas so we can revel in all those "oooh, don't you look lovely and slim - have you lost weight?" comments

chuffinell · 15/12/2008 09:19

Chuffinell here, rallying the ladies on - 2 weeks till Christmas, and we are not getting fat!

hope your cold is better BB; hows it going missnatalie?

my scales are still stuck on 10st 3 - and went up a pound last week, am not happy. but i am persevering

2 weeks to lose 4 pound, can i do it?

bouncingblueberries · 15/12/2008 12:37

Hi Chuffinell!

Where has everyone else gone? Are we the only ones left?

My scales have stuck a bit too, but I've not been trying that hard to be honest. I'm stuck in a bit of rut with my juices and think I need to try out some new recipes to get me going again.

As long as I don't put anything on over Christmas I'll be happy . Off to stay with in-laws on Wednesday for 2 weeks, which will be a challenge to say the least. MIL like to feed us as if we've been out toiling in the fields since 5am. But going to borrow a juicer to use while we're there.

Wish me luck! Will be checking in to see how everyone is getting on and no, you can't juice a mince pie

chuffinell · 15/12/2008 13:07

yes i think its just us 2 left!

i hate mince pies so thats ok - but can you recommend any Baileys juices?!

Im wishing you luck BB, and myself, if it wasnt for my bet with DH, i wd stay where i am as i am so pleased with what i have lost - am into size 12 jeans which is fantastic. but NO_ONE at all has said 'you are looking slimmer'

2 weeks with the in laws? - you will deffo need alcohol never mind solid food....

i am doing Jeepneys soups now as a change, just had tomato and basil it was really nice - have you tried some of them?

spokette · 15/12/2008 13:24

Hi

Just popping in to see how everyone is doing.

I have put on about 3lb due to 3 Christmas parties in one week. Too much drink and food and virtually no exercise is a bad combination!

However, I am not worried because I am juicing during the day again and having light meals in the evening.

We are spending Christmas with the in-laws and we always over-indulge so I plan to have just juices for 5 days before we depart.

That is what I love about juicing - one can overindulge and still have a mainly healthy diet.

OP posts:
chuffinell · 15/12/2008 13:38

Hi Spokette, great to hear from you - you started all this fantastic weight loss off, and i for one am really grateful to you

i promised you a prezzie if i lost a stone didnt i? i am nearly there....

have a lovely indulgent time - i intend to after my Christmas day weigh in!

chuffinell · 15/12/2008 13:56

just reread this thread - i promised spokette a prezzie if i lost HALF a stone, so i owe you!!

also, i dont seem to have lost any weight since 10th November

spokette · 15/12/2008 14:11

Chuffinell, have you lost inches though?

TBH, I tend not weigh myself often now, I just go by the feel of my clothes.

Good luck with the Christmas day weigh in - I won't be online then but will no doubt be juicing again after Christmas to compensate for the over-indulgence!

We are hoping to take our 4yo DTS on an aeroplane for the first time next year so will be looking to book a holiday where it is hot. So my next target will be to make sure that I am beach ready by the summer.

OP posts:
babyinacorner · 15/12/2008 17:04

Hi Everyone - I'm still lurking and watching this thread!

I'm dipping in and out of juicing -I enjoy it when I juice in the day and then have a meal in the evening. Otherwise it's just too damn hard!

I think all anyone can hope for over the xmas period is to just stay the same weight and then carry on with renewed vigour in the new year.

I have started running/jogging recently and that combined with juicing makes the pounds fall off!

chuffinell · 16/12/2008 13:04

Hi Spokette i have definately lost inches- i am in a size smaller jeans which is brilliant.

also my BMI has dropped from 27.32 (overweight) to 25.37 (0.37 off being healthy)so if i lose a few more pounds i am into the healthy range

i am really pleased with this, and will carry on, as my skin looks miles better, i have tons more energy and i feel so much better all round and am much happier choosing clothes (my Next card is being hammered though!)

i guess i need to start exercising like you, babyinacorner. i am so bad at execrise thou - i cant even spell it

bouncingblueberries · 21/12/2008 21:28

Ok. I'm scared. Day 4 at in-laws and the food consumption isstarting to creep up. Help !! Juice only for the next 2 days I think. Then Xmas eve dinner and Xmas day dinner will need to be an exercise in moderation. Keep putting the lid on the tin of celebrations to avoid temptation but mil keeps taking it off again and giving me a row!
