Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

Hi Coggy

I'm still juicing away! Good luck with it and just take one day at a time.

I've just come back from a circuit training session and had home-made vegetable soup, two plums, one banana and a pear for lunch.

I tend to juice now on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays where I replace breakfast and lunch with juices except on Sunday when I have Sunday roast so have a juice in evening.

I have put on a couple of pounds but that is because I am eating more because of all the exercise I am doing. I do circuit training Monday lunch time, Body Combat on Monday and Thursday evening, Body Pump Yuesday evening and gym Friday & Saturday where I do 60 minutes cardio followed by 30 minutes weights. I have lost inches all over my body and I am really firm and toned.

I keep planning to do a three mile run outside but I don't like running in the cold!

Juicing has given me energy and focused my mind on remaining fit and healthy. I've just turned 44yo and I have no intention of succombing to the middle age spread!

Thanks to this thread (and my generous DH for buying me a really good juicer - all the bits go in the dishwasher!) I am starting tomorrow.

I have read the book, I have been to Holland and Barret and today got my 1-3 days stuff in Sains. I have also bought my DH some taste the difference ready meals, as I do not want to have to cook for him and he can't! He is off to USA on Monday, so only a few days of them.

We are off skiing/to see FC in Lapland on 14th of Dec - I cannot do up my salopettes, that is my aim!

I am 37 (last Friday) I am overweight, sluggish and my skin is horrid - roll on the new me!

babyinacorner · 25/11/2008 21:27

Good Luck Marmaduke - I started juicing on Monday - they are all delicious but it is tough!

I'm aiming for 5 days then a couple of weeks of juices for breakfast/lunch and a meal in the evening.

MarmadukeScarlet · 25/11/2008 23:03

I've had a last supper, with crumble for pud - unheard of mid week!

Well done to you for having started on Monday. I'm getting anxious about how hard it will be, I am weeeaaak!

bouncingblueberries · 26/11/2008 08:02

Good luck Marmaduke and well done babyinacorner.

I'm just about to embark on another 7 days of juices. I've lost 10lbs so far, over 3 three weeks but really want to have lost a stone before Christmas.

I've found that when I'm drinking fewer juices I'm more likely to nibble on naughty things, so going back to being a hardcore juicer for a week to see if that breaks the habit again!

Loving fitting into all my old clothes and have realised that I was actually wearing clothes that were too small for me because now they fit me properly

babyinacorner · 26/11/2008 19:01

Bouncingblueberries - hats off to you for doing another 7 days juicing - you must have strong willpower! I'm literally ready to snap and have something to eat and I'm only on day three! Help!

KatieDD · 26/11/2008 23:09

I completely tak my hats off to you ladies, I managed 1 day
I really like the juices but no way can I see them as instead of food.
Anybody think my skin will look nicer/I'll benefit in some other way if I keep drinking 2 juices a day and have a meal, spag bol or something healthy ?

Babyinacorner - you're half way there now! Keep going - you'll be so proud of yourself when you get to day 7 and the results will be great!

KatieDD - 2 juices and a healthy evening meal will still do you an amazing amount of good. The weight loss will be slower, but maybe that's not your main motivation? Chuffinel did really well on 2 juices and an evening meal.

Stick with it guys! The first few days are the hardest!

chuffinell · 27/11/2008 09:42

Hi all sorry for my absense! Bouncingblueberries, you are a star, thank you for the continued encouragement

katieDD - i couldnt just juice either so have been having juice for brekky and then a juice every 2 hours in the day (plus some snacks eg a crumpet, soup if i am starving, the odd Wispa bar even, i cant give up on choc!) then i have a small portion of whatever i am cooking for the family

it almost doesnt feel like a diet, and i do have a few days a week on normal food, ie when i run out of apples

that means its taken a month to lose the weight but i have still lost a total of 10lbs, and my trousers are hanging off me!

i started at 10 stone 13. this morning i was 10st 3lb and would ideally like to be 9 and a half stone

the staff in Aldi must think i am an apple nad pineapple freak!

keep going everyone, keep that little Christmas dress in mind!

babyinacorner · 27/11/2008 09:57

Thanks for the encouragement everyone -I'm on day 4 now and need to go shopping for some more fruit. Going to do 5 days then go onto having 2 juices and an evening meal. Thinking of having a chicken calad on Friday night as my first meal - anyone got any other good ideas for evening meals?

babyinacorner · 27/11/2008 10:01

obviously chicken salad not calad -going delirious with all the juice!

babyinacorner · 27/11/2008 20:50

have i killed the juicing thread!!?

KatieDD · 27/11/2008 22:28

I certainly could do with the weight loss, she says stuffing a chocolate mousse.
Back on the straight and narrow tomorrow, so as many juices as required to stop me eating rubbish and a healthy homemade evening meal with whole foods should be ok ?
BTW just thought i'd mention, my 6 year old who stopped eating fruit and veg at 18 months, drank a turbo charge, I nearly fell off my chair.

bouncingblueberries · 28/11/2008 08:56

Don't worry babyinacorner - the thread is still alive and kicking! Do you like feta cheese? You could do a nice big Greek salad for dinner - that's my fave just now.

Well, despite my good intentions yesterday I ended up scoffing a couple of handfuls of mini cheddars Ooops. My own fault for not being organised enough and letting myself get hungry. Then my friend, who is a marvellous cook, had just taken homemade mincepies out of the oven, so I had to help her quality control them It's still fruit right?

Never mind. New day today and just sipping a ginger zinger for breakfast. Have a flask of juice in the fridge, so no lapses today.

KatieDD - I never get to drink all of my juice/smoothie because my 2 year old always has to have some!

MarmadukeScarlet · 28/11/2008 11:59

Hello juicy girls,

Well I nearly gave in on the first day, by the early evening I was so nauseous that I had to pull over twice whilst driving on the way to brownie drop off! It was the Turbo juice that did it I'm sure, I also had a cracking head. I picked DD up at 7 pm and we all went to bed lol. Having only had 4 out of my 5 juices
(I think).

Thurs woke up ok, not too hungry. Had 3 juices as couldn't risk the re run of the sickness from the night before, not really hungry but did go to bed early. Although tbh I did eat a tiny amount of gingerbread dough and one warm arm when they came out of the oven - which actually was very restrained!

Today had the lemon/ginger (I think) carrots and apples and ginger, as quick to assemble and in a rush for school run - only a meagre 200 mls, my apples must be wizened!

Then at 11 had a super juice, which is fine. I do have a headache again, but not as bad as weds.

I weighed myself today, as needed encouragement and it looks like I may have lost 4-5lbs (thereby proving how much I have to lose!)

So experienced juicers, what can I have instead of the turbo juice which is similar nutritionally as I am now put right off them and am supposed to be having 2 per day, I can just go without and go to bed at 8pm everyday as DH is now back from France (he'll be off in USA next week so can go to bed then!) and he thinks it is highly anti social.

Happy juicing.

KatieDD · 28/11/2008 14:12

Am wondering if it's not the 2 hours a day of exercise that goes with the plan that causes the weight loss.
I've definately noticed a difference but I think that's because of no carbs after 6pm and going to bed with my hands tied behind my back (lucky me) at 8pm.

MarmadukeScarlet · 28/11/2008 14:54

Well, I'm not doing any execrcise at all! Am recovering from a serious chest infection and a bulging disc, so am completely unable to do more than a gentle walk over smooth terrain!

I did some strenuous housework yesterday and went for a toddler speed walk on Weds pm but that is it.

I presumed because of this I wouldn't lose any weight.

I've just had a smoothie, wow that was a pleasant change from the juices!

babyinacorner · 28/11/2008 20:55

Had my first meal this evening. It was heaven!

Went for a run this morning, thought I was going to die - had no energy whatsoever.

Bouncingblueberries thanks for the greek salad idea

MarmadukeScarlet · 30/11/2008 15:21

I have had a shaky weekend, have given in and eaten a little pumkin soup yesterday and butternut squash soup (croutons and bread) today.

I did do a 4 mile brisk walk (Nordic Walking with poles)this am and then a 1 hour stroll in the woods at 4 yr old pace.

I did weigh myself this am and it looked like I'd lost 8lbs though.

Probably best if you are running to eat a meal, I looked at some of his athletes juices, I can't see how 3 dates is going to get one through a serious session?

bouncingblueberries · 02/12/2008 09:13

Woo hoo! Reached my initial goal of losing a stone this morning

I have to admit, I was helped along the way by a nasty little tummy bug

But I'm wearing jeans I haven't worn in years and I can't believe how easy it was. I so wish I had discovered juicing sooner. I am well and truly hooked

How is everyone else getting on? It's freezing here today, so I might make carrot and butternut squash soup for lunch instead of a juice.

PersephoneSnape · 02/12/2008 09:22

had a dreadful weekend of excess. shall be good for a couple of days and then am going to hotel for work on thursday night. shall try and eat fruit from the breakfast bar, but the lure of the sausages might be too great. better to admit i am weak and have one, rather than a plateful.

chuffinell · 02/12/2008 10:24

oh bloody well done bouncingblueberries! a stone is brilliant

i am creeping slowly down towards 10 stone - i think i am 10 3 still

am back on the juice today

persephone, we stayed in a hotel last week and i was drooling looking at DHs full english brekky! managed to restrict myself to poaced eggs and a grilled tomato though

i bought some new tops last week and i look so much better - dont look pregnant any more (my daughter is nearly 4!)

havent manged smaller sized trousers yet but i dont think i will need to wait much longer as these are getting v baggy round the hips - HOORAY!!

notamumyetbutoneday · 02/12/2008 10:31

Wow I cant believe the amazing stories on this thread, it really is so inspiring- ive been pricing up juicers on the internet already!

I do have a few questions/concerns though and would really appreciate some advice fro you experienced devotees!

  1. I work full time, do you think its a practical plan to take the juices to work? would they keep ok if i made them the night before? i cant see me getting up at 6am to juice the fruit bowl!
  1. I cant imagine not sitting down to a meal with my DH every evening- its our catch-up time. do you think it would still work if i was to have a small portion of a veggie meal eg veg curry?
  1. I eat loads of fruit a day anyway- perhaps 5 portions and lots of veg at mealtimes/home made veg soup for lunch- will juicing make that much diference?
  1. My main weight problem is I think from huge portion sizes (well too big for me anyway since im 5ft 1) and biscuits in the evening. Would jucing help this?

Your tips and advice greatly appreciated.

notamumyetbutoneday · 02/12/2008 10:33

wow this thread moves fast! any tips for someone interested in doing this but scared?!(see my post below)?
