Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

spokette · 01/09/2008 13:07

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

Aargh! I broke my juicer

It lasted just long enough to make my morning smoothie and then packed up It was quite old, so can't complain really. Poor thing had been lounging in the back of a cupboard for 5 years, so no wonder it died after 5 days hard labour!

Anyway, ran all around town trying to find a reasonably priced juicer - decided if I was buying a new one anyway, I should make it a whole fruit juicer. Ended up back in Tesco, where I started and bought the Philips whole fruit juicer. Was the old model, so picked it up for £40 I think. Tesco's own whole fruit juicer was sold out otherwise I just would have bought that.

Anyway, enough blethering, at the end of day 5 I can report I have lost 5 and a half pounds

thesockmonsterofdoom · 04/11/2008 13:42

yay, are you sticking to it religiously or have you eaten any food?
I so need to lose weight and super quick.

bouncingblueberries · 04/11/2008 14:38

Days 3 and 4 I didn't stick to it religiously and nibbled here and there on various halloween treats, but I did try to be very conscious of what I was eating. Was super strict yesterday and today (not counting the tiny bit of fish finger I pinched off ds )

Good luck! Stick with it, it's worth it!

Wisp · 04/11/2008 14:42

poshtottie;
It's juice yourself slim, not strictly meant to be having the mango one today, but I'm the only one in the family that likes mango, and it needs eating, not adding the honey though. But I'm not even hungry yet..very bizarre!

DivaSkyChick · 04/11/2008 15:30

Day 5. Feeling good! Have definitely lost some wieght but still not checking the scale. My husband says my face looks thinner. I'm psyched!

I haven't got a follow on book. Can't decide between turbo charge and juice yourself slim. either way I won't get it in time for day 8. Not sure how to proceed.

Wisp · 04/11/2008 15:43

Juice yourself thin, after the 7 days of juices only, says to have two juices/smoothies/soups a day, and then a healthy regular meal.Doesn't go much further than that really. Turbo charge seems to have more info I think.

nappyaddict · 04/11/2008 16:07

Lizzylou - earlier in the thread you said you have to chop the fruit when using your tesco whole fruit juicer. i haven't found i've needed to chop anything yet with it but a lot of the stuff does seem to end in the pulp container. do get more juice/less waste if you chop the stuff up?

DivaSkyChick · 04/11/2008 16:30

Thanks Wisp.

Has anyone done something creative with all that pulp?

kkey21 · 04/11/2008 17:54

Hello-i wondered if you fabulous and encouraging ladies could please advise me! I am D-E-S-P-E-R-A-T-E to start this 'diet!' Problem is i am breastfeeding at the moment and wondered if it would be nutritional enough to manage alongside my feeding? It certainly sounds it although i am sre the book does not advise it-i wondered if there is anyone out there who can maybe tell me different??? As with my 1st child i tend to 'store' fat whilst breastfeeding rather than burn it off like 99% of others!

And a HUGE well done to you all-i have read more or less the whole post and feel very encouraged by you all!

I have 2st of baby weight to lose and then a further 1-2st! x

DivaSkyChick · 04/11/2008 18:37

Hi Kkey,

I don't think he really answers that question in the 7 lbs book. How old is baby?

I would guess the question you have to ask yourself is how devastated will you be if your milk starts to dry up? If you're five months in, I wouldn't worry so much. If you are thinking of doing this with a three week old, I'd say wait.

Also, it's a lot of work with all the juicing and cleaning - I could never have pulled it off when she was tiny. I'd probably have juiced my hand by accident!

arfishy · 04/11/2008 21:16

Woo-hoo! I weighed myself and after 7 days I've lost 8lb

I hate to say this but this has been so much more effective than going to the gym every day for 3 weeks [$$ gym emoticon]

I am carrying on. I've another 4 weeks until I leave for the UK and could really do with losing another stone [hopeful].

KK - I would juice but eat other food too. Make sure you add all the supplements. I would also eat healthy meals, I don't think you should really be dieting. Why don't you ask your doctor what he thinks?

LetThemEatCake · 04/11/2008 22:30

Arfishy - congrats! that's so funny that you are coming to the UK in 4 weeks - I am headed to sydney in 4 weeks and said on an earlier post that we should meet for a juice! I guess not hey!

I'm on day 2 and have caved slightly - I'm not tummy hungry but mouth hungry. So I snacked on some cherry tomatoes (I know, kill me, right?) and just now had a miso soup - am craving salt, weirdly!

I ditched wheat, dairy, meat etc about 7 months ago, so the restrictions of this diet are not such a big deal for me - but my teeth want to get stuck into something, that's for sure. Some tasty quinoa would be great!

DivaSkyChick · 04/11/2008 23:28

Cake, I ate an apple the first day (how bad can that be, right?) and I've munched a few pieces of celery along the way. Sometimes you just want a crunch!

DivaSkyChick · 04/11/2008 23:30

Yay Artfishy!
Let us know how it goes with adding regular food in, will you? I really want to know that weight gain is not inevitable!

nappyaddict · 04/11/2008 23:38

In the book it says you can do the diet if you are pregnant so i assume you can do it when he breastfeeding. He says if you are pregnant check with GP first but he can't see how it could be harmful - just that you might need larger portions of fruit/veg and especially more avocado.

ClaudiaSchiffer · 05/11/2008 07:08

Hi DivaSkyChick - following on from you post on the knackeredoldbags10yy thread, I thankfully haven't continued to pile on the weight once I'd finished the 7 day plan. I started the plan at 9st 7lbs - finished it weighing 8st 11lbs, YAYYYYY for me, then in 2 days put on 1.5lbs (sob) and that was when I was having only one small meal a day (salad + protein NO CARBS). BUT since then I have been having 1 juice for breakfast, a lunch of a sandwich and for dinner something like steak and salad or fish and salad - but no carby bread or potatoes etc. And am now weighing in at 8st 10lbs so not loads of weight loss ove the past 10 days but that's fine, I just need to up my exercise rate and not succumb to snacks again. I feel good, my skin is quite lovely (well almost) and I am slimmer and have more energy and I think after spending 7 days on the diet being furious i think I am now happier and my moods are more stable. Quite a relief to DH and the kiddies.

keep going it is worth it as it does re-train your eating habits, although I have had 3 cups of tea today and my GOD they were all lovely . So much nicer than that Green Tea stuff.

bouncingblueberries · 05/11/2008 08:55

Artfishy that's brilliant! Well done you!

I'm on Day 7 now and managed to drag myself out for a run this morning. It was tough going, I been such a lazy ass for weeks now, so my poor legs were protesting a bit. But, I did it, and I feel great for it.

Must say, I'm loving my new whole fruit juicer , only downside is it takes a bit longer to clean, but hey ho.

Hope everyone has a good day of juicing and looking forward to seeing more fantastic results!

Thanks for the advice ClaudiaSchiffer and glad to know it doesn't all pile back on at the end of 7 days - I'd be so gutted.

Anyone know how Spokette is doing? After all, she started all this! Spokette, Spokette, Spokette! Ra ra ra!

LetThemEatCake · 05/11/2008 09:02

okay, I know I shouldn't have done this but I weighed myself this morning and I'm only on Day 3

and I have lost 5lb!!!

down from 10st 8 to 10st 3

I am 5'10 so notlike I was massively overweight to begin with - ordinarily I'd only expect to see such drastic results on a really o/w person

so wow! I'm impressed! can't wait to see what I weigh on day 8! under 10st would be magic!

good luck today everyone, happy juicing! oh god I sound like the Juicemaster don't I? Have a juicy day, y'all!

thesockmonsterofdoom · 05/11/2008 09:28

I am really naughty, I had a cup of very weak tea yesterady as I couldnt drink the lemon tea. am loving the juice, I also had a very small portion of pasta for my tea because I really wanted to eat something.
I weighed myself this morning because I always do and i forgot that I wasnt, anyeway I have lost 1.5lbs already after 1 day, not bad ha, I can see me sticking to this, the novelty of playing with my juicer really helps.
I have done slimfast in the past so can manage ok with little food but it is definalty better knowing you are having something really healthy.

Lizzylou · 05/11/2008 09:31

Nappyaddict, I was chopping but then realised I didn't need to! Only big apples etc.
I was so excited to get going that I just dived straight in without reading the manual.

Well done everyone on your weightlosses

bouncingblueberries · 05/11/2008 09:47

LetThemEatCake that is brilliant! Well done you!

nappyaddict · 05/11/2008 09:51

I'm beginning day 3 today. Only lost 2lbs so far (btw it helps if you weigh yourself naked - i had jeans on the first time i weighed myself and i hadn't lost anything - i'd never have thought my jeans weighed 2lb!!)

Still quite pleased with the weight loss as I haven't exactly stuck to the plan. Ate DS' left over chips yesterday, a few plain noodles, small piece of cheese, jacket potato and some chicken

chuffinell · 05/11/2008 09:52

claudiashiffer well done! - you were really encouraging to me when i started the juicing so i am slapping you on the back in return! and well dont to everyone else.

i am on my second week of juicing and have lost ....half a pound???? where am i going wrong

nappyaddict · 05/11/2008 09:54

Lizzylou - which apples do you find you have to cut? I have been using pink lady apples and they fit ok.

Those on the 7 day part how many juices are you having a day? I only had 3 yesterday and not sure if i should be making the effort to have the extra 2.

Claudia - did you do any exercise on the 7 day plan?

Lizzylou · 05/11/2008 10:06

Nappy, if I have larger Golden Delicious apples, then I cut em in half.
I was cutting everything up
