Juicing - two days in and I am still not hungry!

I decided last week to start juicing after seeing my cousin who had lost a stone in 3 weeks!! I only want to lose half a stone after the excesses of the summer so I thought starting off with a diet comprising vegetable and fruit juice might be interesting (as well as challenging).

So I bought a Juicemaster book (7lb in 7 days) and started juicing yesterday. Today I worked out to one of my DVDs for an hour and have just returned from the park with my DTS. I'm still not hungry!!

I have been drinking fresh juices, which are absolutely delicious as well as exhilerating and I feel fabulous. I plan to do this until Saturday so it will be interesting to see if Jason Vale's promise that you will not feel hungry at all holds true.

Was wondering if anybody else had tried this regime?

BBB where did you get your jucing book from please?

Lizzylou · 03/11/2008 14:02

I have the Tesco whole fruit juicer, was £19.99 down from £39.99, it's very good.

Feel better already today (have had so much wine and carbs this weekend, was nice at the time!).

bouncingblueberries · 03/11/2008 14:02

I found Juice Yourself Slim in Waterstones but WH Smith also had some. Couldn't find 7lbs in 7 days though, but JYS is working for me so far.

DivaSkyChick · 03/11/2008 14:04

Welcome everybody!

I am now on day 4 and I feel great! I'm especially thrilled that my daughter who won't eat vegatables under any circumstance, loves my juices. Even if I lacked motivation to make this a long term way of life, my daughter's health will be my inspiration.

I still haven't weighed myself but my husband says I'm looking much thinner. YAY!

thesockmonsterofdoom · 03/11/2008 14:23

I found the 7 days in waterstones, I dont think I have have a blender, although I will hunt on top of the cupboards.
Is it worth taking a trip into town to get the wheatgrass and some of the other stuff I cant get, i have just been out and got 3 huge carrier bages of fruit and veg, the buggy kept tippingnover, do you really get through all that in 3 days?

Lizzylou · 03/11/2008 14:31

sockmonster, yep, sooo much fruit and veg!

I haven't bothered with any of the supplements, and have felt fine.

It is costing enough, without a massive Holland and Barrett bill!

chuffinell · 03/11/2008 14:32

you will be amazed sockmonster how quick that massive pile of fruit goes down

i have put everything in my whole fruit juicer, even the avocados. the only thing i have blended is the banana and yoghurt in Jason Vale smoothie recipe - i used a hand blender for that

i havent used any of the weirdy stuff eg wheatgrass, spirilina etc but then again, i havent lost a pound in weight yet so thats probably where i am going wrong

to those asking - the cookworks whole fruit juicer from Argos is 24.99 and seems fine to me

i better start dropping some flab soon though or i will lose my bet with DH to lose a stone by Christmas

thesockmonsterofdoom · 03/11/2008 14:36

I think that is the juicer I got, cant remember now though, will find out tommorow when it comes, I had a juice from a juice bar yesterday and had a wheatgrass shot in it, it was very nice.

Wisp · 03/11/2008 14:42

My book arrived today, and I have had to crawl into a kitchen cupboard, and find my juicer, there were 3 spiders living inside it!
Its gone into the dishwasher ( I did save the spiders first!), and Ive created a "juicing corner" in the kitchen!
Just need to stock up on the fruit and veg tonight, and I plan to start tomorrow.

Some of the recipes sound slightly odd
I need to get my head around drinking avocado though!

nappyaddict · 03/11/2008 15:27

argh the greengrocers didn't have any avocados still. does anyone know what i can replace it with?

also when it says a stem of broccoli does it mean the really thick bit at the bottom or the thinner bits that the heads are attached to?

LetThemEatCake · 03/11/2008 15:53

here I am on day 1.
Not hungry, but am fed up of cleaning juicer every 3 hours.
Also caved and had a coffee (black no sugar) at midday - pretty sure that old JuiceMaster wasn't looking after 2 under 2 all day and getting up to non-sleeping baby 6 times a night ..

but have to say, feel remarkably good!

good luck all!

VineGuyFawkesFeltMyTits · 03/11/2008 16:32

Will i be able to make the juices in advance so i can take them to work with me? do they keep well?

Buda · 03/11/2008 16:40

I am starting on Wednesday. Out to dinner tomorrow night. Planning on heading to Lidl initially and then will go to a veg shop for anything Lidl don't have.

Am desperate to get down to a size 18-20 rather than the 22-24 I am now.

Mind you the MN meetup with a weekend in London won't help! I have just over 2 weeks till then.

poshtottie · 03/11/2008 16:50

vgffmt, I made up one up in advance and put it in a flask which was fine.

I've only had one juice today as had some soup for lunch and a piece of spelt bread toasted. I've managed to keep off the wheat and haven't had coffee for 3 weeks now.

poshtottie · 03/11/2008 16:52

buda, if you juice only for the first 7 days you will notice a big difference. Good luck.

Buda · 03/11/2008 17:18

Thanks poshtottie - am hoping so! Just really hope I can stick to it.

VineGuyFawkesFeltMyTits · 03/11/2008 17:22

Thanks for that PoshT, do you mind me asking how much weight you have lost so far?

poshtottie · 03/11/2008 19:46

vgffmyt, I only had a few pounds I wanted to lose. I really wanted to kick the caffeine and eat less sugar. I was tired all the time and had mood swings.

I do feel better and am not eating wheat (and I love bread) so less bloating. I even gave out chocolate in my baby yoga class today and wasn't even tempted.

nappyaddict · 04/11/2008 00:11

Do you have to clean your juicer every time you use it? I was thinkin about just cleaning it at the end of the day.

DivaSkyChick · 04/11/2008 02:27

I rinse mine in soapy water each time and scrub the blade bowl but I only give it a serious wash at the end of the day. It's such a pain, isn't it?

arfishy · 04/11/2008 02:43

NA - if I'm going to do a few of the same type of juice in the morning I don't clean mine. I'll rinse it all out halfway through the day.

If you line your pulp collector with a plastic bag you can just pull that out instead of having to scrape out the pulp.

I'm carrying on juicing this week. I did the whole of last week, apart from our Halloween party on Sun where I HAD NO WINE (unlike the rest of the party who drank a punch bowl of vodka/cranberry, followed by a punch bowl of sangria plus wine and beer). I had 3 tiny pieces of meat and then salad, but quite a few mouthfuls of egg and potato salad which was delicious. Nothing too bad considering the amount of cake I'd made. Oh, I had a few user check mouthfuls of my lemon meringue pie as well, before palming it off on my guests.

Could have been a lot worse.

Anyhoo. I'm sticking with the juices. I'm very lucky to have juice bars everywhere, so I can grab a juice on the way to work, then get one made at lunchtime.

I'm not craving bread or carbs any more. I don't even really fancy wine, which I usually love to sit outside and drink in the summer.

One thing that's really helping me is the hot water and lemon. I drink it all day. It makes me feel very refreshed.

Buda · 04/11/2008 05:52

Aargh! The best laid plans! DS will be off school today as he is sick so I won't get to buy all my fruit and veg.

Sigh.

Wisp · 04/11/2008 12:54

I'm reporting in on day 1!
Had a breakfast smoothie for breakfast, which was delicious and filling.
Wasn't hungry for the brunch one, went out on a big walk into town with DS2, and stocked up on fruit and veg at the greengrocers.
Just had sweet veggie heaven for lunch, which was really nice despite the way it separated in the glass, and looked vile!

Bought some Spirulina in town too £13 for a little pot! It's meant to be an algae superfood, so will give it a shot at some point.

Planning on Mango and honey smoothie this afternoon, and chunky veg soup for dinner.

Feeling very optimistic today. Hope everyone else is having a good day too

poshtottie · 04/11/2008 13:14

wisp, which book have you got? I don't think there was a smoothie until around day 4 on the "7lbs in 7 days"

thesockmonsterofdoom · 04/11/2008 13:21

Day 1, juicer came while I was out this morning and since I have only eaten a banana I decided to start now, 1st juice, super juice yumyumyum, It is so yummy, been drinking it for about 1/2 hour as it is so filling.
