(thanks fairlady!)

Ria - you can do it! Biriyani sounds yum, I'd love the recipe if you can post it?

educatingRia · 19/11/2008 23:11

I'll post the recipe tomorrow if I get chance (I usually do)
Am just nibbling my second quality street and sipping my one glass of wine (swapped the second so I could have a bacon sarnie at lunch). I managed to avoid opening the doritos and scoffing the lot, would like to think I've turned a corner, but am still taking one day at a time with my fingers crossed

educatingRia · 20/11/2008 09:32

ROOT VEG BIRYANI serves 4, free on green
1 onion
2 potatoes
2 sweet potatoes
1 swede
2 garlic cloves
4 carrots
4 parsnips
1 tbspn medium curry powder
1 tbspn chat masala/ half tbspn garam masala
12oz/340g dried rice
freshly chopped coriander

Prep veg (peel & chop/slice) crush garlic. Place in a large pan, cover witn 1 1/2 pints water, bring to the boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15 mins.

Add spices, stir in well and cook for 2 mins. Add rice, bring back to the boil stirring often. Cover & cook for 20 mins until veg tender, rice cooked & liquid absorbed. Serve sprinkled with fresh coriander.

starving today. wish I hadn't had toast for breakfast cos I want MORE!

bohemianbint · 20/11/2008 17:19

Thanks Ria, that sounds fab, going to give it a whirl tonight. (Was going to have stir fry but am ravenous and it won't cut the mustard!)

Have you resisted the doritos? I can't have crisps in the house, they're my main weakness.

Weigh in day tomorrow...I changed it to Friday so that if I had a decent loss it would inspire me to carry on being good through the weekend...

SparkyPup · 21/11/2008 13:36

Hi everyone - been in hiding but had to give up as there is so much of me these days I can probably be seen from space ... . Having photos taken for the company website today so we are all being very camera-shy (tho' some more than others ... ahem!). Ria - biryani sounds lovely so I'm hoping to give it a go. I do remember that a couple of the SW curries I tried did indeed look and smell better than they tasted. I think it is perhaps because they use dried spices - I know when I make a curry using fresh spices it has more "oomph". Just a thought. Used to make a SW recipe for "Smash" bhajis. (yip, the dried potato powder). Sounds completely weird but they were very good indeed. If I can find the recipe again I'll post it.

FairLadyRantALot · 22/11/2008 11:09

sparky, I find with most recipes that I need to add some other stuff to make things tastier....lol...

bohemianbint · 22/11/2008 15:08

fab biriyani - had to improvise skightly though...

Does anyone have the password this week please?

RockinSockBunnies · 22/11/2008 16:37

I need help! I've been doing Slimming World since June and reached my target weight last week. I've lost in total almost two stone, am back down to a size 8/10 BUT ever since I've reached my target weight I can't stop eating! It's ridiculous. I went out with friends last night and was coerced into drinking far too much, which meant I had no willpower to decline a bowl of chips being passed around.

Today I've just scoffed a Kit Kat (all four fingers) and can't stop thinking about food.

Has anyone else had this experience once they've got to their target weight? I really don't want to yo-yo diet forever....someone give me some tips!!!!

educatingRia · 22/11/2008 17:06

what was your improvisation bohmeian?

have slipped a little the last couple of days

RockinSockBunnies · 22/11/2008 17:09

Password by the way is kipper

SparkyPup · 22/11/2008 23:53

Fairlady, I find that a pound of butter and/or a jar of sharwoods will make most curries taste pretty fine Took a mad turn this afternoon and made the carrot and beetroot soup from the latest mag - the jury's still out on that one - then also made the beef goulash. Followed the recipe almost to the letter, but added a tspn of cinnamon (I can never leave it alone .... always improvising ...). Anyway, served it up to dh and ds andy everyone loved it. It's free on original, so I served it with carrot and swede mash and some broccoli. Still not hungry some five hours later, so that's a winner - AND I've got a bit left over to freeze for later. Generally more a fan of green days (I'm not veggie (obviously!)but I do like my carbs), still, for red days that is a really tasty dish - doesn't feel like slimming at all. BTW, dh tasted the stock at the "nearly completed but not yet simmered for 2 hrs" stage and wrinkled his nose in disgust, saying it tasted like watered-down tomato juice; but was coming back for more when it was finally ready, saying it tasted completely different and much better - I'm no Delia Smith, so that was high praise indeed ...

SparkyPup · 23/11/2008 00:09

Incidentally, I don't have a ds ... that should have been dd ..... oops . Reminds me of the time when she was about 3 wks old and I took her to the local shops in her pram. An old lady came up (as old ladies do) to admire her, and asked me how old she was; "Three weeks", I replied. "And what's her name?", asked the old lady; "It's .......... erm ...... well, it's ... it begins with L. ..." was my pathetic response. I swear you could see the smile freeze on that old lady's face as she started to think "abductor" and "social services". All I know is that post natal sleep deprivation is a strange thing ...

WTSS · 23/11/2008 16:44

hello all,
i am crawling back to SW after a period of absence and birth of beautiful ds - now 11 weeks old.
I can't seem to shift a bean. I'm doing it half heartedly at the mo I must admit, so my syns are often higher than they should be, but I;ve always lost pretty quickly and without too much effort on the SW plan - which is why I'm back.
I guess I;m asking if anyone has any good motivational resources for when they want to resist having an extra slice of toast or too much cheese in their sandwich...

i liked the letter at the end of this months mag where she says 'anything worth having is worth working for'.

LOL at not remembering dd's name Sparkypup

educatingRia · 24/11/2008 10:19

I am and

Had a brilliant start to the week last week, then fell off big time over the weekend

I have lost 4lb (could be 6 as when I weighed myself last week I was so cross cos I'd gained I didn't write it down)

How is that for a motivational kick up the backside.

Tommy · 25/11/2008 12:04

good for you Ria.
I didn't get weighed today as DS1 is and I couldn't go. Also, my scales need a new battery (excuses exuses!!)

Ate and drank rather too much over the weekend so it's proably better to have a week off

educatingRia · 25/11/2008 13:18

tommy.

now I have to keep it off and lose some more

SparkyPup · 26/11/2008 16:14

Hi everyone and welcome WISS. Well, I've gone SW cooking crazy recently. As well as the soup and the beef thingy, I made the tomato and spinach lasagne (cheated a bit by adding a few slices of "real" cheese to the top layer once cooked and grilling it ... quark and fromage frais doesn't really cut it for me .... and it was surprisingly nice! About to do a spag bol with Quorn. Also been making lots of pasta salads with tomato, cucumber, mixed beans and extra lite Hellman's mayo for lunches. Perhaps I've been possessed by the spirit of some long departed TV chef? Hopefully not Fanny Craddock tho' - Gawd, she was awful! Just hope I lose some weight! BTW, well done Ria, that's a fab loss!

Tommy · 26/11/2008 18:13

was thinking about doing that lasagne - will put some parmesan on top I think to liven it up a bit.

I have made spinach and chickpea curry for tonighjt

SparkyPup · 27/11/2008 15:50

Am I right in thinking this would be free on green, if pork or whatever was taken as a healthy extra? ? or you could use quorn)

Biryani

Dry fry 8 oz of pork mince / chicken/whatever
Add a couple of cloves of garlic and some chopped onion
Add a tspn cloves
Add a tspn whole cumin
Add a tbspn garam masala
A tbspn of medium curry powder (or to taste)
A tin of chopped tomatoes
A cup of stock made with chicken bovril
Frozen or fresh veg of your choice
A tbspn of Worcestershire Sauce
A tbspn or thereabouts of lime juice

Meanwhile cook rice in salted water with a pinch of saffron.

When cooked, combine.

Sprinkle with coriander and serve

Found a biryani recipe in the curry booklet but thought it seemed a bit bland so tarted it up a bit ... it?s probably not even a biryani any more

Anyway, let?s hope it?s free, cos I?ve made it now!

educatingRia · 27/11/2008 16:44

The only thing in the recipe with a syn value is the meat so I woulld consider that a HE and count it as 0 syns (if it was "free" that would mean you could eat unlimited amounts but you need to measure HEs - have I got that right?)

I have gone off cooking again. But am off the wine/crisps and chocolate (because we haven't got any) so hopefully will not gain

Tommy · 27/11/2008 22:48

yes, if you used quorn it would be free. Might try that

bohemianbint · 28/11/2008 12:14

Well done Ria!

I've lost 1 poxy pound this week - bugger bugger bugger. I've hardly eaten some days (do to not having time!) and haven't done anything naughty. Plus am breastfeeding! Grrrrr...

SparkyPup · 28/11/2008 13:06

What a shame Bohemianbint. Try to stick with it and not be too disappointed - it may well come off next week. That used to happen to me sometimes. Tommy, if you can be bothered to do it the biryani was really good (she said modestly). Got some with me today for lunch as well .

SparkyPup · 28/11/2008 13:09

BTW - are we three or four the only ones left on this thread? .... it seems to have gone rather quiet .... has everyone moved and not told us? Is this a ghost post? .

Tommy · 28/11/2008 13:15

I'm still here!!

have just eaten a tin of veggie curry that I assumed would be fairly low only to find that I've just eaten 11 syns - oops .

And there was me thinking that a big healthy lunch would save me some syns for the buffet at the party I'm going to this evening.

oh well.....
