Keeping my weightless accountable

Excellentboiledpotato · 15/09/2026 18:10

I have been reading weight loss threads and have missed the boat to join at the start with others losing weight, so am starting another one in an attempt to keep myself accountable in losing weight.

I am 5ft7 and perimenopausal. On HRT and have been eating my way steadily to obesity. According to last check in with GP i was obese and I want not to be.

I started last weekend and have lost a little bit of weight, just need to keep going and not lose the run of myself

I walk the dog 3x a day, row for 20 minutes 3x a week and have just started a weekly team sport. I want to fit in a run or an exercise class at some point each week but will leave that until my knees feel better.

Currently aiming for around 1600-1700 calories a day. If I go too low I lose the plot and attack the biscuits.

Here i go.

@AbzMozI hope the Prodigy did the trick yesterday! I’m in the same boat re temptation today - out for dinner, so will have to try to select mindfully and not just inhale all the carbs.

@Excellentboiledpotatothat sounds like quite the project! Done in time for Christmas though?! 🤞🏻

Good weigh in here this morning. Let’s hope it’s a sign of a good day ahead!

I think I have lost weight from my face and my feet. It's always my mid section that goes last. Which is annoying but am trying to look at it as motivational 😄

Yes, hoping to be done for christmas, but am also aware of what builders are like so... who knows.

Enjoy the meal out @fairsintown and also hope the Prodigy was helpful @AbzMoz.

I am finding it helpful to post here as a way to keep on going. Just seeing the wee changes is helpful!

@ExcellentboiledpotatoI know what you mean, I always think my weight is going from my non-priority places first, but I try to reason that it surely must be going from everywhere, it’s just less noticeable early on from the areas carrying more…?!

It WAS a good day here yesterday, for many reasons! Dinner was lovely and although I indulged a little in the shared garlic bread starter and my fish and veg arrived drowning in oil, I swerved dessert, so I think that was a good compromise. I weighed a little later than usual this morning, so I expect I’ll get a bit of a bounce tomorrow, but I’m seeing 191 for the first time 🙌🏻

I had sooo much bread yesterday. Still in a calorie deficit but bread just doesn't work for me. It is a sad truth, and a heavy burden, but one I must bear 😢

Bought and cooked an apple strudel last night 😋. Cooked fish and veg which I finished this morning also then had a chicken sandwich. Hoping to drink plenty water today.

fairsintown · 10/10/2026 15:45

Ah @Excellentboiledpotato @TalkToTheHand123 bread and apple strudel both sound delicious! But are def in the ‘infrequent’ camp here too if I want to continue losing!

That's another increase from (strong suspicions) bread, takeaway and builder related...blockages. and my period. Will keep on keeping on, and up my fibre and water intake...

Accountability is what is keeping me going. I am at danger time: have lost ebough weight to make my jeans (size 14 M&S) feel looser, am on a smaller notch in my bra waistband and just feel a bit smug i have lost more than 1kg. Past reaction to this has been to reward myself with two weeks off and chocolate. Which... is not the right approach. So will keep on keeping on.

Well done @Excellentboiledpotato one day at a time! Things I have adjusted since my frustrating plateau that seem to be helping me are focusing on lean protein to keep me full (and protect my muscle mass if social media is to be believed), and then topping up with a LOT of green veg - it’s very light in calories but nutritious and keeps everything working as it should! (That and strong tea in the mornings - maybe before your builders arrive?!)

How are we doing today @AbzMoz @TalkToTheHand123 and anyone else who is still reading along with us?

Im sooooo close to my first goal today and I’m starting see the difference in my body.

Internally, things moving along more pleasantly. Externally, builders not here today because of gas pipe related issues (resolution in place, builder has communicated). I realised that I had nowhere near enough water friday or saturday. Need to hit over 2 litres to keep it moving.

More protein and more fibre is the way forward. I try to have fruit and veg throughout the day, but can't eat a lot of green veg (I love brocoli, but like bread it does not love me). My aim every day is 7 portions of fruit or veg, and i get there most days. It is the same though each day (blueberries, apple, banana, spinach, tomatoes, beetroot, sweet potato) but some days switch it up.

I think I need to use 85kg as a new start weight. Keep the focus, aim for 80kg and then... onwards.

Good work @fairsintown it definitely helps when you can see the difference!

OP posts:
fairsintown · 13/10/2026 08:08

@Excellentboiledpotato Gas pipe related issues sound potentially tricky (and expensive!), so glad to hear there’s a plan! Sweet potato is a good shout, I might add some of those to my order.

Great weigh in here this morning - I’ve hit my first goal and am no longer obese by BMI!!! 🙌🏻. I really really want never to go back into that bracket, but I have a tricky two weeks of half term coming up to navigate and no access to scales next week, or my own kitchen, so it’s going to be a challenge.

My next goal is the healthy BMI threshold, but that’s a long way off, so I’m going to leave my 1st GW on the stats for now so I can see how far I’ve already come (and in case I have a bounce over the coming weeks).

Fantastic @fairsintown ! Well done, I am so chuffed for you! And definitely good motivation to have the second goal weight on the cards.

Scales have not moved today. I did my strength and conditioning class first thing (7.30am class is working better than I thought!) so now just need to make sure I keep moving today.

i am wondering if this plateau is down to complacency, eating too much (i have lost 5kg so time to reduce calories?) Or not eating enough (apparently walk 5miles a day plus rowing x 3 plus football plus exercise class... do I need to fuel more?) Or maybe I should just crack ob for another week and see it level out? I have bounced about the 85kg mark for a fortnight now...

STILL 85kg. I think I am just going to keep on what I am doing until after the weekend (we are going away) and then revisit what i am eating. I think my portions are creating up so need to get a grip on them.

Builders are back. More digging. Dig dig dig.

My lower half is definitely feeling the after effects of the class yesterday morning. Did my 20 minutes on the rower which was fine, walking the dog... not quite so fine 😂

Anyhow.

Morning @Excellentboiledpotato! I hear you on the frustration! I guess, absent an undiagnosed medical issue, if you are consistently in deficit, you must drop at some point!!! 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

I’m really struggling with a resurgence of hunger, even though I’m eating what I have been and it has been keeping the worst of the cravings at bay. I guess hormones, weather, stress and weight loss so far all play a part, but it’s hard. One day at a time!

Still no movement on the scales. My lower body muscles are still not happy with me for Tuesday's workout. Maybe that's the problem? Grasping at straws. I think I look a bit neater around the waist/stomach area (my problem area) and there is more space in my clothes.

Keeping on keeping on...

Maybe @ExcellentboiledpotatoI think I’ve read people saying hard exercise can result in some water retention in muscles. Super frustrating though!

My willpower failed a little last night when faced with the leftovers of the kids’ spaghetti, but thankfully doesn’t seem to have caused too much impact. I managed some gentle exercise yesterday so maybe that helped.

May I join you please?

I had great success a few years ago with reducing from 13st 10lb to (after a bout of pneumonia which I wouldn’t recommend!) 11st 7lb (a weight at which I really look too scrawny - I’m 5ft 6”). It was 5:2 eating that worked for me but then, mysteriously, I just couldn’t do it any more. My blood sugar levels started to swing about wildly and fasting made me feel really ill.

Since then I’ve meandered around between 12st and 12 and a half. Ideally I want to sit at 11st 10lb - far too heavy for some but the weight at which I look and feel healthy. My downfall is chocolate. I have an addictive personality (gave up alcohol decades ago).

So that’s me. Hello 😁

fairsintown · 16/10/2026 11:09

@Excellentboiledpotato baffling indeed!!! But at least you aren’t going up! My earlier message said I’m trying to shift mindset a little from just focusing on the scale to focusing on how much better for my health it is to be nourishing my body and doing gentle regular exercise (though today I have DOMS from my new physio exercises 🙈 so I’m clearly some way from being fit and strong just yet!!).

Welcome @NewGrandmummy!! Of course you can join! I hear you on the chocolate. I find it almost impossible to moderate, which is why weight loss is so hard: I’m so all or nothing. Right now I’m managing zero sweet treats but I know I won’t keep that up forever.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 16/10/2026 11:23

I wish I’d found this thread right at the start! May I join too? Im day 68 into the diet (according to myfitnesspal) I have lost 9lb so far on 1650 calories a day and lots of exercise.

Hormones have been my biggest battle. I have PCOS and have had a break from any hormones but I am starting letrozole again tomorrow so the cravings will hit me hard. At one point I had 3 weeks without any loss whatsoever and then the scales magically started moving again- wtf?!

What’s working for me is a big breakfast and tea and then something small for lunch like Weetabix with a protein shake poured over and a non negotiable sausage and egg McMuffin on a Friday. I do feel in a bit of a rut though and love hearing about other people’s foods and what works.
