Keeping my weightless accountable

Excellentboiledpotato · 15/09/2026 18:10

I have been reading weight loss threads and have missed the boat to join at the start with others losing weight, so am starting another one in an attempt to keep myself accountable in losing weight.

I am 5ft7 and perimenopausal. On HRT and have been eating my way steadily to obesity. According to last check in with GP i was obese and I want not to be.

I started last weekend and have lost a little bit of weight, just need to keep going and not lose the run of myself

SW 90kg
CW 87.5kg
GW ? 80kg for now

I walk the dog 3x a day, row for 20 minutes 3x a week and have just started a weekly team sport. I want to fit in a run or an exercise class at some point each week but will leave that until my knees feel better.

Currently aiming for around 1600-1700 calories a day. If I go too low I lose the plot and attack the biscuits.

Here i go.

Hello @Chocolatecustardcreamsrule welcome to the thread and congrats on the weight loss so far! Urgh, hormones can be such a nightmare. Good luck with restarting the letrozole.

Food wise, I’m focusing on lean protein and not too much sugar. Usually cottage cheese or eggs with fruit or veg for breakfast, chicken breast and veg for lunch, and dinner is a small portion of whatever I’ve cooked for the family but making sure half my plate is green vegetables. Drinks are water or unsweetened tea with skimmed milk only.

I love your Friday egg McMuffin schedule.

fairsintown · 17/10/2026 07:43

Good morning everyone! How are we today? Hope you are having a good weekend away @@Excellentboiledpotato

I’ve discovered my new favourite vegetable (there’s a sentence only a dieter would utter!): cauliflower, air fried with cumin, smoked paprika, caraway seeds and a little salt and olive oil. Heaven!

I wish I’d found this thread right at the start! May I join too? Im day 68 into the diet (according to myfitnesspal) I have lost 9lb so far on 1650 calories a day and lots of exercise.

Hormones have been my biggest battle. I have PCOS and have had a break from any hormones but I am starting letrozole again tomorrow so the cravings will hit me hard. At one point I had 3 weeks without any loss whatsoever and then the scales magically started moving again- wtf?!

What’s working for me is a big breakfast and tea and then something small for lunch like Weetabix with a protein shake poured over and a non negotiable sausage and egg McMuffin on a Friday. I do feel in a bit of a rut though and love hearing about other people’s foods and what works.

Have you tried inositol?

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 17/10/2026 08:19

@fairsintown it’s surprising isn’t it how quickly you get used to less sugar and how addictive it is.

@cityliving99 i have but thank you for suggesting! It’s amazing stuff, I take myo inositol twice a day. Its also helped my MIL with her blood sugar (menopause made her prediabetic and it really helped) it should be more well known how good it is!

NewGrandmummy · 17/10/2026 08:22

Morning all! @fairsintown - I'd love to know more about that recipe please. How long do you cook it for, and at what temperature? It sounds delicious and I'm all for anything that will make me eat more vegetables; I've never liked them.

Anyway, weigh-in this morning so here we go.
Starting weight (SW) 13st 10lb
Starting waist measurement (SWM) 36"
Goal weight (GW) 11st 10lb
Goal waist measurement (GWM) 32"
Current weight (CW) 12st 1lb
Current waist measurement (CWM) 34"

Sorry for all the stats, and don't feel that you need to read them all - they're to keep me accountable! I do find it odd how weight loss and waist inches lost often don't correlate. It's not unusual for me to lose pounds yet gain inches in the same week: strange.

Would it be helpful to add in exercise done? It could be whatever counts for the individual - for someone with a disability it might be armchair yoga, and for others the treadmill in the gym (not me; I hate gyms!). It would certainly help my accountability because I manage to find every excuse under the sun not to exercise. "I have a slight twinge in my leg..... I may have a cold starting.... I did a long walk yesterday..." - I could honestly write a book of them!

Anyway, today I commit to doing some exercise, and to logging it tomorrow morning, so there!

Hope everyone has a good day.

Excellentboiledpotato · 17/10/2026 10:46

Hello everyone!

No weight in here. I had a fish supper last night, lovely.

I am a bit disheartened seeing no loss in the last week, I will do my best to keep on track with food while away. My clothes are looser though!

fairsintown · 17/10/2026 18:42

@ExcellentboiledpotatoIm not surprised you a feeling a bit disheartened. Enjoy your weekend away and return with renewed enthusiasm (and perhaps an experiment in switching up your meals and portions a bit to try to jog your body out of this rut?).

@NewGrandmummy I wouldn’t exactly call it a recipe 🤪 I was experimenting with veg to go with chicken tikka. I’m doing it again this evening: one cauliflower, washed, patted dry and chopped into relatively even, bite sized pieces. Drizzle with a little olive oil, generously sprinkle with cumin, smoked paprika and a good smattering of caraway seeds and a pinch of sea salt. I air fried them for about 15-20 mins on 190-200°, joggling them about every 5 mins or so to cook evenly, and testing the stalks with a knife to tell when they are cooked (timing depends on how small you chopped it and how thick a layer you have).

Perfect! Thank you SO much.

NewGrandmummy · 18/10/2026 08:22

Did I exercise yesterday? Did I heck! But then I did do an hour and a half's housework, a dog walk and three hours' ironing.

See what I mean about finding excuses not to exercise?

How's everyone else doing?

fairsintown · 18/10/2026 08:30

@NewGrandmummythat all sounds like exercise to me!!

No weigh in here. But I managed to resist the breakfast burritos at the airport, so I think I deserve a medal! 🥇

Excellentboiledpotato · 18/10/2026 12:31

No weigh in here. I am suffering from Builder Blockage again, this time I think it's because I am staying at FIL and have nervous bowels.

Walked a lot yesterday, 20k steps. Ate a pizza and had a pint of lager but within a (small) calorie deficit so still trucking on.

With exercise, any time i find myself talking myself out of doing it, I decide I will just do 10 minutes. That's half of my normal rowing time so once i have 10 minutes under my belt, I may as well do 10 more minutes. If I am out for a walk, I still have to walk home so it is a 20 minute walk. If it's anything else, I am normally over what ever is stopping me so I crack on. If I am not, then I have at least done 10 minutes so that is better than nothing.

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 19/10/2026 13:32

That cauliflower looks amazing I’m definitely going to try that.

I was the same yesterday I just couldn’t get the motivation to go and do a run. I did breakfast for the in laws and had a small bit of baguette, a slice of bacon and a sausage and a pain au chocolate that I didn’t realise until afterwards totalled 950 calories! I didn’t go over my calories but the rest of the day was hard work as I was starving!

Im going to the gym now in my lunch hour (very reluctantly). DH is away tonight so im going to redecorate the downstairs loo- anything to keep me away from that fridge. I’m the same weight this morning- I feel weight loss should reward us for effort and I should have lost 2lb from the effort of yesterday!

20 minutes rowing is really impressive that’s proper hard work!

fairsintown · 19/10/2026 13:46

Well done on staying inside your cals after that breakfast @Chocolatecustardcreamsrule!

I like that ‘just get started’ mentality in exercise @Excellentboiledpotato. Hope the in-law induced builder situation has eased today!

Temptation aplenty here, and finding it hard to find fresh veg, but going to a bigger supermarket today 🤞🏻

fairsintown · 20/10/2026 07:54

Ah. Lovely delicious, def not inside my cals meal out last night. Must try to stick to plan today…

Excellentboiledpotato · 20/10/2026 10:31

@fairsintown hope you found some veg and enjoyed the meal!

After a weekend away, meals out and not tracking i have... stayed at 85kg. WTF.

I am noticing changes though. In the summer, I bought a pair of shorts in size medium that I really struggled to wear comfortably. Or at all (think badly packed sausage). I was back at the shop this weekend and bought a pair in large. OR SO I THOUGHT. Put them on this morning (2.5 mile run done today) and realised they were a medium on a large hanger. And... they fitted. Nicely. I even ran in them. Hooray.

Back home today, have had breakfast - greek yoghurt, milled flaxseed (to sort the builder's blockage which had thankfully resolved itself over the weekend), almonds and two satsumas because we have no blueberries.

SW 90kg
CW 85kg
GW ? 80kg for now

How is everyone getting on today?

Three hours ironing is some serious iron pumping.

fairsintown · 21/10/2026 09:35

Completely off the wagon day yesterday with local cakes and wine, but back on it this morning with a good breakfast. Onwards and hopefully downwards, or at the very least, not upwards 🤞🏻!

Chocolatecustardcreamsrule · 21/10/2026 11:25

@fairsintown local cakes and wine sound absolutely glorious! I’m really craving a chocolate brownie but I know if I bake some I will eat the whole tray.

@Excellentboiledpotato well done that’s amazing progress! Running in them too shows they properly fit too! Congratulations on your resolved blockage too haha

I’ve stayed the same for the last few days but down a full pound this morning so I am pleased!

NewGrandmummy · 21/10/2026 13:26

Good to read everyone's updates.

I have a very unhappy stomach this week, so food really isn't troubling me 😥

Excellentboiledpotato · 21/10/2026 15:01

STILL 85KG

No other news.

Good luck, comrades.

No gain though @Excellentboiledpotato!

Sorry to hear you are poorly @NewGrandmummyget well soon.

Congrats on the 1lb loss @Chocolatecustardcreamsrule !

I managed my first day of this trip actually on plan yesterday, though the other days haven’t been awful, with the possible exception of cake and wine day. Let’s see what today brings. I’m not expecting a loss this week but I am really hoping when I get home not to have bounced back into ‘obese’ BMI territory 🤞🏻

fairsintown · Yesterday 08:46

@TalkToTheHand123@AbzMozanyone else following along. How are you getting on?

Excellentboiledpotato · Yesterday 11:05

84.5kg baby!

Must not think that having 2 large chunks of cake is what helped. I have taken this week a bit easy and not tracked food. Still exercised. Onwards!

Looking good with the loss @Chocolatecustardcreamsrule

Enjoy the rest of your week @fairsintown

Hope you feel better @NewGrandmummy

Let's keep on keeping on, compadres.
