Would any other slow losers like a half a pound a week solidarity thread?

I am such a sloooooooow loser and peri menopause has pretty much killed it off. If I am left to my own devices I naturally eat exactly my maintenance calories, and to undercut by 500 a day feels like such a hardship. I exercise regularly, get my steps, cook from scratch and it’s not enough any more.

please don’t suggest weight loss meds. I’m not eligible and I couldn’t afford them anyway.

my strategy is 1500 cals a day, good quality food with as little UPF and sugar as possible, increase veg intake, get an extra walk in after dinner, and reduce my alcohol intake. It’s all very simple stuff really. A half pound a week will add up to 21lbs by the time I go on holiday next summer 👙

anyone else feel the same?

I'm a daily weigher, if I weigh weekly, I end up thinking that the next 2-3 days won't show if I overindulge. I have no self control.

I was working out when I'm likely to hit my target weight of 119lbs and was shocked (and a little bit disappointed) when it came out to be January 2027. There's 10 weeks of the year left so I'm going to lock in and be 10 weeks ahead of where I would otherwise be on 1st January.

Tonight one of my DC has a 2hr training session so I'm going to walk laps of the floodlit pitch and listen to a podcast.

Swearwolf · 23/10/2026 06:24

I’m feeling all of these comments - I also wildly overshoot on eating if I aim too low, aiming for a tiny deficit is the only way I can do it.

i also am forever weighing myself and trying to forecast when I will be the right weight, or what I might weigh by a certain date. That’s very motivating! I lost 1kg in a month, which is not very much at all, but if I can keep the pace then I’ll be at my first goal before Christmas and my overall goal by March.

That said, I have slowed down a little, the weekend threw me off. I was out for dinner on Saturday and while I wasn’t drinking, I did eat pudding, and then on Sunday I was having such a lovely cosy autumn Sunday that I made a massive dinner and drank a load of wine. Won’t do it again!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/10/2026 06:45

@67elevengood idea to use the training time for walking, I used to feel it was such a waste of time and I would use the hour to sit in my car and do life admin every Tuesday, pay all my bills and reply to school emails and things. Mine are old enough to drop and go now thankfully

@Swearwolf I think the calories things is because actually at my age I don’t need calories I need nutrients, and if I cut too low I am just not getting the fats and protein and nourishment that I need so it’s not sustainable even for a day or two. I notice around my period i just really need more food, and I suppose that’s why as well.

although that being said, yesterday I ate 1100 and really didn’t fancy anything else even though I could have had an evening snack. I ran yesterday as well and still didn’t fancy anything so I banked the calories.

I break up today for a lovely week off with my boys, we’re gonna do a whole load of nothing and I cannot wait! Catch up with friends, bake my Christmas cakes and puddings, paint a chest of drawers and other than that, just chill, read and rest. I get paid today and I need some new pajamas and a few bits, but I want to sort all my autumn clothes out and get all my nice jumpers down from the loft.

got to get through today unscathed first and I have a TON to do before close of play. Lots of scrappy work ends to tie up. food today will be chicken and salad for lunch, and dinner will be something from the freezer which is as yet undecided. Lots of veg. I’m not drinking tonight, actually I plan not to all weekend. I am enjoying being hangover free!

Plodding along here - being very very consistent with average kcals 1500, but haven't weighed myself as I know I'll be disheartened if I haven't lost!

I've gone from weighing daily to monthly 😆

Slow going is hard isn't it?

But - it's the best way to keep it off.

Swearwolf · 23/10/2026 19:09

Oh definitely @TakeTheDog! Frustrating but worth it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 23/10/2026 21:47

Woohoo week is over and I have a week off now! Yay! 🙌

I have actually had a really good week and to be honest I can’t remember having such a consistently good run of weeks in a very long time. I have felt a bit off track a few days but I am managing to pull it back in the next day. I’m doing my gym, running a couple of times a week and just kind of getting on with it. The weekend and week ahead look quite busy but also shouldn’t be too hard to keep on track.

Can I join in?
I'm a glacial loser, but it's adding up over time.

SW: 118.5 kilos (no idea when that was - years ago)
CW: 102.4 kilos
My next goal is to get under 100 kilos

I only make small goals, and when I achieve that, I make another.

I tend to lose in spurts and then maintain (although that plan sometimes goes awry). I'm hoping that with less drastic losses, my body will fight back less, and my body will have more time to adjust.

I usually eat low carb - try to eat whole foods but sometimes supplement with shakes. If I go out, I eat what I want within reason. I'm a recovering perfectionist.

I've increased exercise in recent months - more walking and table tennis. My body has changed more than the scales have - I've gone down 3 kilos in recent time, but clothes are fitting me way better. I've been buying new clothes and really enjoying looking so much better.

Am I the only one who freaks out when people discuss your body changes? It upsets me more than it should - especially if they then become weirdly controlling about how I should lose weight. My reaction in the past was to binge eat and often regain the weight I've lost, but now, in a world of people losing weight through weight-loss injections, I feel like no one really focuses on my glacial body changes, and I'm doing it almost invisibly.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 24/10/2026 08:06

@ResultsMayVary I love Recovering Perfectionist! I am trying hard to be one too. It sounds like you are doing all the right things, well done on your losses.

i was awake in the night with the dreaded sweats, I was soaked through! Since changing my HRT I am having them a lot more again. But I did get back to sleep and woke at 7.50 which is a glorious lie in in my world. This morning ds and I are going to take the dog out, then go to town - so lots of steps. Not entirely sure on food, we have lots of eggs in so probably eggs! I’m at a murder mystery party tonight, no idea what to expect on that one.

I am feeling good though. I have had a good month. I am both excited and nervous to weigh myself as I haven’t for several weeks and I don’t want to burst my bubble. But I know I am doing all the right things so 🤷‍♀️

@thenewaveragebear1983 Thanks you!

Best of luck with your weigh-in. I'm a daily weigher, and it's shown me just how variable it can be. If you don't like the number, I'd check it over the following few days as I'm often gobsmacked at how much it changes from day to day. I hope the scales reflect your hard work!

NahThen · 24/10/2026 18:44

Good luck for your weigh in on Monday @thenewaveragebear1983 and it sounds as though you're in the right headspace but don't be disheartened if it's not what you're expecting, your focus and consistency have been so good regardless of what the scales say.

I've struggled a bit the last few days, fallen back into the habit of not eating much/at all during the day then making poor decisions. I think lack of prep may be my downfall here!

thenewaveragebear1983 · Yesterday 20:18

I’m weirdly looking forward to my weigh in although I have had quite a lot extra this weekend so may be disappointing. I’ve struggled a bit the last few days too @NahThen, I did stupid things like bought cakes from the yellow sticker knowing fully that I would probably eat them, plus had party food last night.

however looking back over October I have not had such an overall good month in a very long time. I have tracked every day for a start, properly. Hit my calories most days or just slightly over, hit my protein goal most days as well, and I’ve really been enjoying my gym and prioritising it over running which is giving me much less fatigue and aches.

I’m back on it properly from tomorrow, I am going to hide the scales for another month ( I do a monthly weigh in for a diet club so will wait until then). And my plan is going to be:

continue gym sessions
protein 100g at least every day
protein snack at 2.30
no weigh ins!
track everything.

plus a new one for this month-
water 💦 (get 2l minimum a day)

I’d love to join if that’s ok. Saw some pictures of myself and it’s made me feel really ready to DO THIS. I’ve been losing and gaining the same 2kg all year, when really what I want to do is lose 7kg once and for all. I reckon it might take six months.

My plan is to cut out as much UPF as possible, prep a high protein lunch for work, and stop snacking. I want to do some strength training too, but I know I need to focus on one thing at a time. I’m going to track my food and weigh myself daily to keep myself on track. Might look at introducing weights in a couple of weeks, once my eating is under control.

thenewaveragebear1983 · Yesterday 21:37

@SeriouslyGotTheTshirt, hi welcome! I think your plan sounds good, I have definitely found that by increasing my protein to over 100g a day I am snacking much much less. I started by doing a kind of ‘baseline’ tracker for a few days and found that k naturally got 70 ish grams a day, so then I worked out how I could add 30-40g. I don’t like protein shakes but I do quite like the yogurts so I have one of those plus a dose of liquid collagen which is 10g protein each day as my afternoon snack. It’s been a real game changer

👋to the new joiners.

I've barely moved all weekend, 5 hrs spent travelling to a family event yesterday. Today I've been digitally decluttering - trying to reduce the number of people I've impulsively followed on facebook and instragram and things that I've randomly saved or bookmarked to come back to later (I never do). I find the sheer amount of it overwhelming. I've decided on a select few who are aligned with my goals and will follow their guidance.

Whist travelling, I listened to this podcast about skin. Most of it I was already aware of but it managed to connect the dots and make the penny drop for me. Eg women need 2l water/day but peri and menopausal women need more because they're sweating it out more. And yet more confirmation of the importance and benefits of weight training. Finally, I confess, I've always had in the back of my mind that I might do WLI's (I'm impatient) but after listening, I'm now firmly in the "not for me" camp. It's a long podcast, but time stamped on youtube if there's any bits you want to dip into.

I read this and am going to keep it in mind as I rarely stick to anything for this long and am prone to hitting the fuck-it button if I have a binge or miss a workout: "Forgive the last hour. Take control of this one. Change happens now, not tomorrow, not Monday."

Have a good week everyone who's joined and anyone who's reading along.
