Would any other slow losers like a half a pound a week solidarity thread?

I am such a sloooooooow loser and peri menopause has pretty much killed it off. If I am left to my own devices I naturally eat exactly my maintenance calories, and to undercut by 500 a day feels like such a hardship. I exercise regularly, get my steps, cook from scratch and it’s not enough any more.

please don’t suggest weight loss meds. I’m not eligible and I couldn’t afford them anyway.

my strategy is 1500 cals a day, good quality food with as little UPF and sugar as possible, increase veg intake, get an extra walk in after dinner, and reduce my alcohol intake. It’s all very simple stuff really. A half pound a week will add up to 21lbs by the time I go on holiday next summer 👙

anyone else feel the same?

I didn’t really stick to my plan yesterday but I did ok. Calories were a little high but partly because I had a huge steak and brocolli with cheese on for my dinner. Not because I ate anything particularly off plan. I ran and did 30 mins full body w/o with dumbbells 💪 it’s very weird not weighing myself, yesterday I really had a strong urge to and it made me reflect on why. I think the conclusion I came to was that I want validation that it’s “working” but more often than not, other factors affect that number. But that doesn’t mean all this isn’t working. So I sort of had a muse about how I’m actually feeling- I do feel a bit trimmer, I feel like I’ve worked out a lot, I look brighter in my face. I’m taking better care of myself overall and not feeling as tired. I feel in control around food which is a big thing for me. There’s sweets and snacks in the house but I am not really tempted by them. So overall those things are “worth more” I guess than knowing if I’ve lost weight or finding out that I have lost/gained a pound. I think stepping on the scales for validation is so ingrained into my brain it’s a tough habit to break.

i’n going to take the dog for a nice walk shortly and then the rest of the day is just jobs and prep for the week. A fox has got into the garden last night and ripped up loads of poo bags so there’s a literally shitty job to do 💩 but otherwise I’m going to just have a nice chilled day and this evening I’m going to do a nice yoga video in my gym.

oh, and I applied for that job 🤞 I read my cv and I was like wow, I am actually (on paper) pretty well qualified for this so I imagine I’ll get an interview at least. My company is big on internal recruitment as well especially at my (lower) level so I do stand a chance.we’ll see

Well, I had a once in a blue moon night that ended very late with a few too many drinks. Definitely reminding me why I don't do this often.
Back to the odd glass of wine at a weekend for the foreseeable

NahThen · 04/10/2026 11:51

Also had a couple of drinks last night, I enjoyed it but went to bed and woke up with such a headache! Had a nice walk in the sunshine though, I must do that more often.

Managed to stay within my cals but I was hungry yesterday. I need to increase my veg intake- I'm alright at protein but I've cut my portion sizes without adding the veg. I got quite into "volume eating" before and it does work for my greed hunger 🤭

Plan today is to boil some eggs for snacks and make some soup for lunches next week.

I'm still in that complicated relationship with the scales @thenewaveragebear1983. Validation from the scales is ingrained into me too and I wish I could break it! I got close earlier this year but then gaining so much has freaked me out a bit and I've lost my confidence with just seeing how I feel in my body (I thought I felt ok and then all of a sudden I didn't and the scales confirmed it!)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/10/2026 15:49

I am trying to do the volume eating as well. I like veg but I’m just so lazy with it, I don’t know why. If I cook a Sunday roast i try to cook loads extra so i have it cooked ready in the fridge which helps. I am not a big fan of frozen veg so it’s hard to get enough unless I can be bothered

I was reading today how pea consumption has dropped 75%! Surprising really!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/10/2026 20:11

We had petit pois tonight after reading that @WhitegreeNcandle!

I feel like I’ve eaten loads today but I haven’t. I’m ending up on 1600 cals. 110 protein. My stomach is huge and round like a ball though, don’t know what I’d eaten, or it could be my cycle but I don’t know really because it’s very sporadic .

its my office day tomorrow, I will take my packed lunch and salad, couple of pieces of fruit. I need to go after work and buy a dress for this night out on Friday. I ordered a dress on vinted which came today but it’s way too low cut for me and I don’t have a suitable bra. And it’s a little unforgiving over my tummy.

Still holding at the same weight here - I guess it's better than gaining.

Yesterday I only ended up having 1200kcal and today 1300kcal, but I've been a lot less active than usual so it makes sense I've not been as hungry.

Really hoping for a 1lb loss this time next week.

Harrysmummy246 · 05/10/2026 21:30

I've dropped another 0.2kg, despite the weekend indulgences. I can only assume this is because I'm finally consistently training again

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/10/2026 06:44

Nothing wrong with a maintain @TakeTheDog, and well done @Harrysmummy246.

I’ve not weighed myself since 1st October, part of me wants to but the other part thinks I’m just going to have gained loads, which is unlikely/impossible based on food intake alone. It’s surprising that I still have days where I feel really huge, I always thought that was affected by the scales, but obviously not.

I’m struggling with my one foot/ankle, I think it’s my arch and I wake up every day with my ankle feeling really tight and sore, sometimes a touch of plantar fasciitis as well, I do a few stretches and it loosens up. I need to look for a YouTube tutorial or video for strengthening and stretching, if anyone has any suggestions?

did the fitness test at bootcamp last night, this phase is increasing weight so it was a series of simple exercises timed . I can do fairly well on goblet squats and things but the plank, I managed only about 10 seconds! So I’m adding that to my October goal, by the end of the phase I want to do at least a minute!

food today is yoghurt, chia and fruit, lunch is salad and boiled egg, fruit, dinner is leftover roast from Sunday with lots of veg. Protein snack is a yoghurt today as I’m at the office. Should come in at around 1500 cals and 120g protein.

OP posts:
Swearwolf · 06/10/2026 06:49

Maybe it would be worth getting the foot looked at so you don’t do any more damage? When I’ve had arch problems it’s helped to use one of those spikey balls you roll around with your foot, maybe you could try that if you haven’t already?

Swearwolf · 06/10/2026 06:54

My weight is very slowly going in the right direction - 63.9kg this morning and it was a solid one. My scale always wobbles up and down before it settles and last week 63.9 was the lowest fluctuation, this week it was the highest.

i do always convert it to stones afterwards, and 63.9 is 10 stone 0.8 - only 0.4kg to do until I’m below 10 stone. That’s my next small goal, I am so slow I think it’ll take at least two weeks, maybe three. I’d love to be under 9 stone 10 by Christmas (my pre-kids absolute highest weight) which is 61.6kg - that might be a bit of a stretch.

i had a big eating weekend as we had a lot on and a birthday party. Trying to keep my exercise mojo this week and also not let any snacking creep in. Yesterday in the office I got so hungry mid morning! I’m sticking with the regular weighing as seeing it go down even a tiny bit is really motivating.

1wokeuplikethis · 06/10/2026 06:55

I’m a slow loser! I’ve lost 2 stone in 6 months which is about a pound a week, just under but equates to 15% of my body fat and I’m back in a healthy BMI bracket.

I have endometriosis and various bloating/gut issues which zaps my energy and makes exercise hard. and perhaps due to the bloating, very few people have commented on my weight loss. Which I am a bit miffed about as I’ve dropped 2 dress sizes, but maybe my clothes are still a bit baggy and hide it?

my joints feel so much better and my stomach way more comfortable without the waistbands always digging in. Plus I can bend over and do my shoes up now without holding my breath!

I’ve cut out crisps and chocolate and stopped eating before I feel “stuffed” and significantly reduced alcohol. I’ve not lost this much weight in about 5 years so feel proud of myself. Annoyingly, I would like the compliments. Even my family haven’t noticed who I see about every fortnight.

Swearwolf · 06/10/2026 08:05

That doesn’t sound too slow to me @1wokeuplikethis, well done!! Two stone is amazing!

I think it’s probably one of two things. If people are seeing you every day, they might notice you’ve lost weight but it’s harder to see how much as it’s gradual, so maybe it’s that. Or maybe people don’t want to say anything as some people get funny about it. It feels like there’s been a bit of a social change there, it used to be an obvious complement commenting on someone’s weight loss but now it’s a bit of a no-no for a lot of people. I bet everyone is privately thinking to themselves that you look great!

NahThen · 06/10/2026 09:38

I agree with @Swearwolf, it seems to have become a bit of a no-no to comment on weight loss these last few years! There's only certain people I would say anything to as I know how they'd react. I bet you feel great though @1wokeuplikethis well done! I really need to do the "stop eating til stuffed" thing- I went to bed with a stomach ache last night 🫣

Hope your office day goes well @thenewaveragebear1983 I know they can be a challenge for you, but you sound well prepared.

I've been sticking to plan and even managing a bit of exercise- just gardening and getting things winter ready but it's all movement. I thought I was about 69kg two weeks ago (I had to weigh the cat!) but looking at my GP record they put me at 70. I had a sneaky peek and am sitting at 67.1, which must be an awful lot of water but hopefully some loss in there too.

Swearwolf · 06/10/2026 10:03

That’s a great loss @NahThen! I looked back through my Garmin app and I’m 1kg down in a month. It’s slow but it’s going in the right direction and I think if I keep going I have a chance of meeting that 61.6kg by Christmas interim goal.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/10/2026 18:35

Gosh yes if you read some threads on here it’s amazing anyone comments on anything anymore, even if it’s being nice. I’d love someone to say I’d lost weight! Dd says that’s because I’m a millennial 🤣

office day did not go well, I didn’t eat enough or drink any water and just found my day really long and tiring. I left early because I needed to go and get a dress for Friday, there is literally nothing in the shops. I checked next, tk and matalan all on a retail park, plus Tesco clothes and literally not a single dress that wasn’t cheap summer maxi. I have now asked one of my friends to loan me something as I can’t even guarantee delivery online now and if whatever I get doesn’t fit then I’m screwed!

hopefully a better day tomorrow, I’m going to have a bath and hopefully get an early night as I’m really tired

OP posts:
NahThen · 07/10/2026 14:20

Thanks @Swearwolf I'm not sure it was "true" but hopefully going in the right direction. I'll have another look tomorrow maybe.

That said, I went over my cals a bit yesterday 🫣 DP brought home some amazing sausage rolls and it was hard to guesstimate the calories but I tried! Today has been really busy and chaotic so I've just managed a snack (thank god I boiled those eggs) and some fruit, barely had a cup of tea never mind water so not ideal.

Hope your friend comes through with a dress @thenewaveragebear1983 I haven't enjoyed my last few shopping trips either- so much brown everywhere!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 07/10/2026 21:33

The shops were dire, everything was just end of summer tat and there was nothing dressy at all. My friend lent me a big bag full but unfortunately a lot of them didn’t fit me and a few that did fit were not flattering, so I then went back to my original vinted purchase and have just accepted that I need to wear it, it’s a little tight over my hips but honestly it’s going to be dark in there and I just need to be brave. I have ordered some dress tape to secure it and a hair bun extension so I can have big dramatic hair. It’s a bit sexier than i normally wear and I feel very self conscious in it but 🤷‍♀️

my food has been really good today, 130g protein and Coming in under target cals. I went to bootcamp but couldn’t face a run in the cold rain. Will go tomorrow.

Swearwolf · 08/10/2026 06:14

@thenewaveragebear1983 I bet you’ll look great! Nobody will be scrutinising your outfit the way you are.

I’m happy this morning - another 0.4kg down on the scales, taking me officially under 10 stone! I know it’s not necessarily accurate or permanent, I know I fluctuate and will likely go up again at some point, but it really feels like progress. I’m trying to see the bigger picture and see that line tracking downwards, even in a wobbly fashion. I feel in control and like if I can just keep doing what I’m doing, I’ll get myself to a much happier point within a few months.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/10/2026 06:42

You’re doing well @Swearwolf, and don’t discredit your efforts. A podcast I like always says you should take the lowest weight of the week as it’s most likely to be accurate and even though we fluctuate gradually the trend will be going down.

I still haven’t weighed myself, I really want to especially after a good day but then I worry that it will be a huge a gain and it puts me off, I drink a pint of water and then that means I can’t weigh. I find that so interesting, a therapist would certainly have something to say about it probably.

today I want go for a run at lunch, I’m trying to do 2 a week to keep my fitness up. I have acupuncture tonight which I have for some nerve damage in my face as 2 Christmas ago I had Bell’s palsy. It’s a strange treatment but I love it and once I have had it done I feel all my chi all ‘zipped up’ and put back in order which is hard to explain.

my food is half planned today, I made 3 cottage pies last night which I can portion out so half of one is 400 cals, that will be one meal, and then there’s a few chicken breasts which need eaten so I might just wrap those in bacon and have with brocolli. I’m eating a lot of brocolli at the moment, I cut up a whole head and microwave it, then chop it once cooked and add some grated cheese. That’s adding a lot of volume to my meals and replacing the carbs at dinner.

Your outfit and hair plan sounds fabulous @thenewaveragebear1983 and it's good to push out of your comfort zone now and again- I always feel really conspicuous when I'm wearing something new/different for me too but try to do the fake it til you make it thing. I still feel weird in wide leg jeans/trousers though 😅

Well done @Swearwolf a new stone bracket is exciting! This feels like a good time to make progress before the Christmas "treats" really set in.

I did my proper weigh in this morning (still a slave to the scales 🙈) and my 67.1 was still there. I'm happy about this- I think it puts me at about 10st8- but can't get complacent. I'm not sure how true the "set point" thing is scientifically but this is definitely the weight my body likes to be at, whereas I'd prefer a good half stone less if not a stone. So I need to carry on, the real work starts now!

I need to go with the take lowest as the weight of the week as it's all over the bloody place, despite being pretty well on top of snacking and training. My sleep and other garmin metrics are still down and out which is a sad indictment of the influence of that prosecco on saturday. I'll be taking a nap later after the shopping delivery and going to pick up a plant order for client garden for next week. I need to get the design work done but have such a foggy head that it's not going to go well.

Swearwolf · 08/10/2026 11:24

@thenewaveragebear1983 I will join you for a run at lunch!! Just a little one, let’s do it.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/10/2026 17:23

I hope you got your nap @Harrysmummy246 and feel a bit better for it, awful that you're still suffering from Saturday!

Wondering what the podcast is @thenewaveragebear1983? I hadn't heard the thing about more chance of a false high than a false low before but it makes sense.

I haven't been outside at all today 😞 so no exercise. I need to get back into YouTube workouts but can't seem to muster the motivation. I am ravenous today, no time for afternoon snack but I've made a few extra veggie sides to have with dinner so hoping it stops me raiding the biscuits later.
