Would any other slow losers like a half a pound a week solidarity thread?

I am such a sloooooooow loser and peri menopause has pretty much killed it off. If I am left to my own devices I naturally eat exactly my maintenance calories, and to undercut by 500 a day feels like such a hardship. I exercise regularly, get my steps, cook from scratch and it’s not enough any more.

please don’t suggest weight loss meds. I’m not eligible and I couldn’t afford them anyway.

my strategy is 1500 cals a day, good quality food with as little UPF and sugar as possible, increase veg intake, get an extra walk in after dinner, and reduce my alcohol intake. It’s all very simple stuff really. A half pound a week will add up to 21lbs by the time I go on holiday next summer 👙

anyone else feel the same?

I have had my weekly lie in, and will walk doggo shortly before I go rowing - training session 5 this week, first time I've actually met that goal since I set it with my coach. I'll have met the distance goal too.
Glass of wine last night was nice and glad I didn't on Thurs.
Oh, and my clients yesterday offered cake. Given it was made from cannelini beans and fruit and no flour, almost didn't count, right???

Also need to do some planting out for stuff to grow on over winter and whilst it's tempting to sit at my desk to do more of the design work, I am trying to keep it week days only.

I will need to cajole DS into..... Basically doing anything at all.

With late breakfast and training across lunchtime, lunch doesn't really happen on a Saturday. It'll be pasta with meatballs tonight - we eat as a family and DS picks from the shortlist we shopped for. Loose meal planning
I'll get as much veg as I can hidden in the sauce and try to remember not to have a big portion of pasta.

TakeTheDog · 26/09/2026 11:45

No loss for me this week. Hopefully will be 1lb down this time next week.

Have started the day with a 5k jog, and lots of cleaning/tidying so lots of active kcal.

Really hungry today and yesterday. Drinking buckets of black coffee.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/09/2026 13:22

oh I give up on weighing, it’s so bloody depressing. I am actually seriously considering ditching the scales for the whole of October. Trust in the process and all that. Not sure I’m brave enough!

Ok day so far, had a good run this morning but have spent the rest of the day mainly sitting as catching up on some course work.

I’m no help I’m afraid @WhitegreeNcandle I’ve spent the whole day wanting something tonight because it’s Saturday - be it a glass of wine or something that includes chocolate and it’s nagging at me! I don’t work Tuesdays, so I’ve made a deal with myself that if I can last out until then I’ll relent a bit Monday night.

😆 and why not - with the amount of training your doing, I can’t see that it’s going to do any damage.

If I could trust myself to only have the one glass 🍷 I’d do it but it will be half a bottle and tomorrow I will feel like crap!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/09/2026 18:22

@Harrysmummy246 I’m dying to know if the cannellini beans cake was worth it? Surely it’s almost as many calories (if not more) and in my mind has a distinct beany texture?

I’ve not done too badly today although I did just supervise ds icing and decorating his birthday cake with delicious white chocolate buttercream and did have a little lick of bowl. It’s way too sweet though just neat and I almost never find things too sweet. Did double set of Caroline Girvan (quads and then shoulders) but not walked much today of been particularly active. I’m really enjoying not running, it’s a bit worrying how easily I can give it up 🤣

dh cooking tonight, I have pre-counted including some focaccia bread and a bit of baked Camembert, and I’m not planning to drink. So I should close up the day on a very small deficit but not over my max.

@thenewaveragebear1983 it was actually lovely! Don't know or care how many cals (can we see where my problem is....)

Anyway. I had smaller pasta portion than DS (9) and will not eat leftovers.
Discussing future boat purchase with another coach and it's interesting what he's suggesting based on weights they're suitable for. I clearly don't look as heavy as I am

WhitegreeNcandle · 27/09/2026 07:51

Right. I am back WITH FOCUS. I need to hit a weekend without falling off the wagon. If I can get two weeks under my belt I can do well. I did my autumnal wardrobe clear out yesterday and I have so many gorgeous clothes that would look brilliant with half a stone off. I love them and don’t want to spend any money.

so today’s plan:
5k run this morning. Followed by eggs, spinach and tomatoes.

then church and a late lunch of roast beef, carrots, peas, kale and leeks. Might do rumbledethumps instead of roast potatoes. Could really do with an afternoon nap. It’s the last quiet weekend I’ll get till half term. Also need to to a meal plan and online shop for the week. For both waist and wallet reasons. Have a good day all.

NitchenNinja · 27/09/2026 08:20

Managed to stay on the straight and narrow last night by going to bed early and pleased I did as woke at 3am feeling like I was hungover - not sure what that was about? But pleased that I wasn’t this morning and 30 mins strength training down and onto a busy day.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/09/2026 10:13

I love the feeling of waking up on a weekend and not feeling hungover. It makes it all worth it 🤣

we have 2 birthdays this week, although poor dh gets no cake because ds gets one and I don’t want loads left, he gets a pork pie instead. I am mentally reviewing my September and considering my October. We have a fancy do at a castle on 9th Oct and it’s my adult DD’s bday end of October but otherwise no plans. I like to do stop-Tober and will do that again, and I’m also really tempted to hide my scales for the month. Not because I expect some amazing surprise loss but because it’s so bloody depressing loosing mere grams and then regaining whole pounds. I just fancy a break from it all and focus on my nutrition and my exercise instead.

TakeTheDog · 27/09/2026 21:34

Not a brilliant weekend, but could have been worse.

Saturday- 1800kcal, was so hungry I ate a few hundred calories extra before dinner. Banana on toast and larger than usual greek yoghurt snack. Didn't touch the sides!

Today - I slept badly so my body was craving carbs and sugar on top of still being hungry.

I had eggs and veggies for breakfast, beans on toast with ham and more eggs for lunch, salmon and veg for dinner --with a few stolen chips from husband's plate- and two huge low calorie hot chocolates.
1900kcal.

And only 11k steps, no other excerise.

Back on defecit tomorrow!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2026 06:56

@TakeTheDogthat’s not too bad at all for a weekend.

my weekend was enjoyable but I hugely overdid it in the food. I didn’t even track yesterday after a certain point and had wine and dessert and a few extras as we were celebrating birthdays.

back on it today though. I have quite a busy week ahead and meals are planned, shopping comes today. My two aims this week are to hit my 10k steps every day (I didn’t last week) and to have my protein snack every day to help curb snacking in the afternoon. Both manageable. Usual workouts and couple of short runs. It’s bootcamp tonight and it’s the first fitness test of the new phase which is always horrible but it’s a good way of seeing improvement when we do it again in 10 weeks.

bring on the week!

WhitegreeNcandle · 28/09/2026 07:20

Morning all. Back on it here today. @thenewaveragebear1983 could you share some of your afternoon protein snack idease please? Today’s menu:
B - protein bread with peanut butter and banana. Not my choice this morning but the bread and the banana need eating up
L - broccoli and chickpea salad with halloumi
T - beef stir fry with leftovers from yesterdays roast.

Will fit in a full body ladder workout and maybe some gardening. Also want to think about what went well for September and what didn’t so I can have a sensible approach to October for when I go off the rails (hello weekends).

Harrysmummy246 · 28/09/2026 07:43

I'm also looking ahead to October and keeping the training momentum going whilst tweaking the lack of progress with food.
Had a chat with AI last night about how to distract myself rather than mindless dopamine seeking snacking, to that end.
Greek yoghurt, granola and dates for breakfast today. Fajita filling leftovers for lunch and probably cauliflower korma for tea. Sensible carb portions for me

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2026 08:32

@WhitegreeNcandle last week on different days I had boiled eggs, protein yoghurt and fruit, and I also made scotch eggs (which are well worth the effort, I buy 5% fat pork mince and season it up and wrap round a peeled egg and oven bake) or leftovers - today I have some roast pork and I’m just going to eat a bit of that. I’m coming for about 150 calories with and have a protein and either a fruit or veg portion

I’ve gained 2lb this week but to be fair it’s probably bloat from yesterday as we had a big roast and dessert and wine.

NitchenNinja · 28/09/2026 10:17

Morning All - found myself eating a chocolate reindeer bar at 10pm last night - think it might have been a wine substitute! But hey ho, today’s a new day.

Everybody is sounding very positive for the start of new week and it’s keeping me on the straight and narrow too.

Got my 30 mins weights in early and then walked for some food shopping so10k ticked off too.

Slow with breakfast this morning (unlike me) and can’t decide what to have. Dinner will be roasted sweet potato with some of yesterday’s homemade chickpea and spinach curry and a good dollop of houmous, a couple of Waitrose mushroom and leek sausages and the usual portion of veg on the side. I tend to snack on nuts and fruit throughout the day and will have some Greek yogurt and berries at some point.

Have a good day all!

WhitegreeNcandle · 28/09/2026 14:16

Thank you @thenewaveragebear1983 i love the sound of the scotch egg if I can find the time. In fact I could even make some for our harvest supper on Friday. I didn’t realise they were that easy.

Although I haven’t lost any weight this week I have toned up - lost an inch off my thighs! So the weight training is working! I’m thrilled with this.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2026 18:23

@WhitegreeNcandle if you want a proper recipe they actually used to be a slimming world classic as they are syn free if you use 5% mince! Long time ago now. Season the meat well and smush it all up with your hands then just take a handful and flatten it in your palm then put the egg on and sort of fold it around, it amazingly just sticks together into a scotch egg!

OP posts:
WhitegreeNcandle · 28/09/2026 19:13

Genius @thenewaveragebear1983 Do you put breadcrumbs on the outside? I'm thinking Panko.

I like a diet where I can eat scotch eggs! Funny how old school diets have recipes that stick with you. I have a trusty Puttanesca Recipe from a Hairy Dieters book which we eat at lease once a month.

Have been invited to a black tie do on the 2nd November in the big smoke so have double incentive. 5 weeks to do well! My fancy black dress is just the same as the rest of my wardrobe. It's ok, just about fits but if I lost 4-7 lbs looks stunning! I have my motivation!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/09/2026 19:42

I don’t put breadcrumbs on but I guess you could. Honestly they are really nice and very filling, I make a batch most weeks and they keep well in the fridge if you hide them from the gannets

I also have a fancy black tie do but ours is 9th October, I tried on my ‘out out’ dress which is a bright pink one from nobody’s child, it fits but it just looks a bit dowdy so I bought a green satin one from from vinted so hope it fits. Satin is unforgiving so I sized up anyway so hopefully it will.

I have had a good day today, I fasted as long as possible then had an early lunch of leftover roast pork and lots of veg, protein yoghurt at 2.30 and just had a big stir fry with chicken and sweet chilli sauce. I did have a little piece of bday cake. I went to bootcamp and walked doggo. So all in all, a good day.
office day tomorrow so will pack my lunch and fruit and take my protein snack (pudding pot for convenience) , although it’s Ds’s actual birthday tomorrow so we are having pizza for dinner.

Hour steady on the rowing machine done. Bored out of my mind but all part of the plan.
Will be treating myself to a panini today after I collect my prescription. I'm now averaging down 1.5kg so it's gradually dropping.
Seem to be doing an awful lot of faffing about sorting training for other people at the moment. Need to get them into a routine before work gets busier in November into December.
I'm now just under 2kg shy of my first goal weight, which is the upper limit of my boat's ideal range, and I'd really like to hit that before we go away for Christmas

WhitegreeNcandle · 29/09/2026 11:29

@Harrysmummy246 how do you fit in all your training, work and organising others training!!

good Day yesterday for me. Plan for today
B - overnight oats
L - stir fry
T - broccoli and chickpea salad with halloumi.

about to nip out for a quick 5k before lunch

That's the secret- I don't work an awful lot!
It's kind of now at the point where the coaching is an unpaid job. But I need to view it as that to do it justice.
We are financially more than ok for me to do this
