Would any other slow losers like a half a pound a week solidarity thread?

I am such a sloooooooow loser and peri menopause has pretty much killed it off. If I am left to my own devices I naturally eat exactly my maintenance calories, and to undercut by 500 a day feels like such a hardship. I exercise regularly, get my steps, cook from scratch and it’s not enough any more.

please don’t suggest weight loss meds. I’m not eligible and I couldn’t afford them anyway.

my strategy is 1500 cals a day, good quality food with as little UPF and sugar as possible, increase veg intake, get an extra walk in after dinner, and reduce my alcohol intake. It’s all very simple stuff really. A half pound a week will add up to 21lbs by the time I go on holiday next summer 👙

anyone else feel the same?

Awful stressful day y'day - continued my trend of eating more but I didn't overdo it, and got right back on the defecit today.

1350 total today (not as hungry after my 3 days of eating 1800-1900kcal!)

Also managed a 5k jog and 25km on Zwift.

Weights & walking tomorrow! I'm not going to weigh until Friday. It won't show a loss but expecting to maintain at least.

If it shows a gain, I give up 😂

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/09/2026 06:43

I ate a lot yesterday, it was Ds’s birthday and I’d had a really long day so despite my great plans (and actually up til 5pm I was having a great day) I ate pizza and chocolate cake. Today is dh’s bday, he doesn’t get a cake because we’ve already had 2 for ds! He gets a pork pie 🤦‍♀️

I have to go into the office again today for a full day meeting which my boss has forewarned is going to be incredibly boring. I will take my lunch but it is nothing too exciting, just chicken and salad. Dinner tonight is chicken legs in mustard and cream sauce with mash and green veg. I won’t get chance for much exercise today, quick dog walk now and maybe a short workout if time allows this evening.

tomorrow is 1st October, how quick is this year thundering past? October is going to be a month of change for me, I’m going to hide my scales and really get back to basics and actually bloody stick to the diet. Focus myself on what I actually want. I am really feeling quite down about my body shape and the way I look, I am heavier than I started the year and I just feel so trapped in this cycle. Part of me wants to do a ridiculous crash diet but the other part knows that won’t work and if it did, I couldn’t keep it up. Whatever i do I have to do 7 days a week and just lock in and focus.

@thenewaveragebear1983 SNAP! It was my boy’s birthday yesterday too so I massively over-ate - sweets as I was decorating the cake I made, dinner out with a glass of wine, then cake and fizz with the family afterwards. My appetite is also up, I’ve been feeling hungry and snacking through the day.

Back on it today! Sensible amounts of sensible food. I have been quite on it with the exercise side of things, which I know can’t replace good nutrition but hopefully will be helping things along a bit. I feel thinner, which is ridiculous because I have lost nothing and I look the same!

Frugal25 · 30/09/2026 17:03

Id quite like a pork pie for my birthday @thenewaveragebear1983
I did the same yesterday, although no birthday for an excuse, I just had a fk it day and ate and ate. Got on the scales this morning to see the damage and give myself a telling off, and I lost 1lb. I have no idea how.

Today back on it, probably not the best diet nutrition wise but within cal allowance. I've lost 4lb this month, so average about 1lb a week. My problem is I plan my food out, I get all excited and then eat a croissant too. I have no idea why.

Going to be like @TakeTheDog
And do weights and walking tonight when I get home.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/09/2026 18:24

I had an all day meeting today and ended up eating a big cookie at 3pm just for survival 🤣 I will just about scrape in on target cals provided I only eat my planned dinner and nothing else. I am way under my protein goal. Dh has decided to take ds training so selfishly that works out well for me because I’m going to have a lovely hot bath and read my book

September was a bit of a flop for me but here’s my big october goals:
No scales - will weigh tomorrow and then hide (but will do my measurements

exercise- aim for 10k steps every day, bootcamp x 1 at least but ideally 2, and Caroline Girvan / dumbbells 3 times a week. I really eased off my running in September so will try to pick that back up but priority is strength training

food- stick to calories ( 🙄) , protein snack at 2.30, no alcohol except for 1 night out

plus all the usual, take my vitamins and supplements every day, drink more water,

g

Love the pork pie idea. DD and DH’s birthday are a week apart and we always feel caked out by DH’s. I feel a new tradition coming.

Im going to sit down later this evening and have a review of September and then plan some October goals.

Cannot believe it is October already.

TakeTheDog · 30/09/2026 21:59

Better day today. Weights & walking success. Food was 1400kcal. Resisted wine.

I can't drink anything anymore without it badly affecting my sleep - even 1 glass of wine. I suppose it's more motivation to give up completely!

I'll weigh tomorrow but I won't have lost a gram. I'll be surprised if it doesn't show a gain to be honest, after a few days of eating more.

This is such hard work!

I don't think September has been very successful.

Better hopes for October for us all!

NahThen · 01/10/2026 10:28

Hello everyone, happy 1st October! Hoping I can join you and feel a little better by Christmas- I was going to aim for 1lb a week but half feels more achievable! 1st of the month feels like a good starting point and after an awful Dr appt last week where I saw the extent of my weight gain plus a wardrobe panic at the weekend where nothing fitted I'm definitely ready for action.

Haven't rtft yet but I will for motivation. Starting at 10.12 and ideally should be more like 9.5 but we'll see how it goes.

I don't have much of a plan yet beyond "stop eating crap" but have done a food shop so fully stocked with fruit & veg, lean protein, eggs, yoghurt etc.

I need to drink more water- got my bottle here- and weirdly eat more. I basically eat one meal a day but it ends up massive and I graze while I make it because I'm ravenous. Looking forward to getting back into my jeans!

Harrysmummy246 · 01/10/2026 15:20

Hi @NahThen
I happen to be lurking whilst avoiding the actual work I should be doing.
Whilst I'm not great at a plan in terms of food, checking in here seems to ehlp and the good news this week is my jeans are fitting better :-) They've always gone on and done up but sitting down etc wasn't great. So much better now .
Although if I keep being as ravenous as today, might not last.

NahThen · 01/10/2026 17:24

Hi @Harrysmummy246 ha I'm good at lurking too and can talk the talk with healthy eating but putting that into action is harder isn't it! I know all the theory, I just genuinely like a bit of junk, a bottle of wine and like @thenewaveragebear1983 said, feeling a bit stuffed!

I was prompted to finally join when I had to get changed today, my jeans were cutting me in half and it was the final straw. It's amazing how much a difference 7-10lbs makes with clothing! Hoping the solidarity will nudge me back on track when I inevitably slip.

How are you managing the hunger? My typical approach is to grab something sugary and power through til dinner but clearly this needs to change 🫣

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/10/2026 18:58

I’m trying to give myself really clear and achievable things to ‘tick off’ every day rather than let myself commit to all kinds of elaborate promises that I won’t keep (like no sugar, no bread, no joy… in principle yes but in reality no) - October is going to be my month of Yes I can 🙌

so today I hit 10k steps, I did a workout (Caroline Girvan day 8 which was lots of rdls and hip thrusts) and I stuck to my calories. I hit my protein goals (120g). I did have 4 chocolate fingers and a piece of toblerone thanks to ds who is the most generous little guy ever. I drank water, will have another one later. Food was good if a little like protein ‘bits’ rather than proper lunch.

@NahThenwelcome, I would say try my 2.30pm
protein snack trick, honestly it really is good. I plan mine in and get 20g protein in some format along with water and a few cherry toms or fruit. It is really curbing my cravings in the afternoons.

I spoke to my boss today about applying for that role and he was so supportive and helpful, I think I had been quite anxious about telling him so that’s good. I’m going to get that application in tomorrow so I don’t mither all weekend

OP posts:
WhitegreeNcandle · 01/10/2026 21:21

Hello @NahThen I’m exactly the same weight as you and know what you mean about clothes just looking 10 times better with 7lbs off.

yay for the positive job chat @thenewaveragebear1983

So it was really worth me sitting down and reviewing September. I’d felt it wasn’t great as I hadn’t really lost more than 1lb. However, I’m nearly at 50 days without a drink, I’ve stuck to a strength program 3 times a week plus at least one run (never managed that for more than a week before) and my diet is much much healthier. Loads more fibre and protein. I feel better and more energetic. So I came away feeling much more positive.

Aims for October:
Not sure about continuing no drink. I’m toying with the idea because I too really struggle with sleep after just one glass. But I have a really exciting event to go to in London - we’ve been invited to a Banquet at the Dorchester and I just cannot imagine doing that without a glass of champagne!!

Keep up my strength habit

keep up my adding in healthy food habit

start having a 2.30pm protein snack to see if that helps with the pre dinner munchies.

Today’s meals were
B overnight oats
L butternut, chickpea and rocket salad
t salmon and noodles

8pm a few handfuls of roasted nuts and 2 Ferrero rocher I found hidden in the cleaning cupboard that’s I’d confiscated from DD a few eeeks ago!

socks1107 · 01/10/2026 22:53

I thought I’d come back, I’ve been shockingly bad at keeping up. I’ve had a holiday and actually got to goal a week before. Since holiday however I’m struggling to stick to calories and eating at maintenance every day, I feel so bloated so despite another holiday in a few weeks I’m aiming for being better before then. I’m not weighing though as it’ll upset me ha ha. Back to swimming and strength training this week which will help!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2026 06:44

@WhitegreeNcandle that’s great, you had a successful month. I have a fancy do at Warwick castle next weekend and I will have a drink at that, but that’s (hopefully) my only drink this month. I’m still claiming stoptober! I find now we’re getting older there’s actually a lot more of the wives particularly at these dos where they don’t drink or just have a couple. It’s not so conspicuous now and no one assumes you’re pregnant if you’re on the lemonade!

I had a good day yesterday. Today I plan more of the same, I have the same breakfast every day, lunch will be chicken salad and maybe a pitta, protein snack will be a yoghurt with fruit , and dinner will be mince based ( i actually fancy a cottage pie but when it comes to it I might not be bothered). I’m going to try to get out for a little run at lunchtime, and do my weights after work. I may not be seeing much loss on the scales but I can see the muscle tone developing on my legs especially round my quads, top of my knees. So much so that I am going to get a short dress to wear to this do as I think I should show them off, they are my best feature.

have a lovely Friday and weekend when it comes

OP posts:
NahThen · 02/10/2026 10:10

Thanks @thenewaveragebear1983 I might try the protein snack in the afternoon, I think some protein yoghurt and fruit would be the easiest option but that's my go-to breakfast/brunch.. I need to embrace eggs and cottage cheese a bit more again I think!

I managed a full day yesterday and other than being exhausted and going to bed with a headache (probably sugar withdrawals 😬) it was fine. I halved my carbs with evening meal and should've added an extra portion of veg but was too tired to bother.

@socks1107 agreed that weighing is depressing- it completely dictates my mood which I hate so do try to avoid. That's led me to kidding myself the last few months though and my gain has got worse! I've switched to kgs and it's helped in a weird way- the losses won't look as "big" but the numbers seem less bad!

Swearwolf · 02/10/2026 16:29

@NahThen I do kg too! I think it has less of an emotional tie for me, it’s more just numbers, so it’s less of a shock when you see a big number on the scale. I can then convert to stones and pounds later when the shock has worn off!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2026 17:11

@NahThen could you do a couple of hard boiled eggs? This week I batch cooked a few chicken breasts, cut the into halves and wrapped in bacon and I have had them at lunches and snacks throughout the week. I think the key is just having it there ready and easy to grab.

I did go for a run at lunchtime but oh dear I felt very unfit, actually that’s a lie, the first 2.7km I was flying at sub5 minutes a km, then I hit the wall and dragged myself the rest of the way 🤣

I’ve never weighed in kg, always stones and pounds. I remember the first horror of being double figures , oh to be 10 stone now!

OP posts:
NahThen · 02/10/2026 18:32

@Swearwolf definitely less of an emotional trigger, I can't do the conversion without a calculator so it genuinely means nothing to me 😅
@thenewaveragebear1983 yeah I can do, I should have bought more eggs really- will try and pop to a shop over the weekend. I really like eggs so that will be an easy win! Well done on keeping going, your exercise regime is really impressive.

I actually opened mfp today and was in for a shock. It's putting me at 1400cals a day which I thought sounded a lot, having tracked my food today it really isn't 😭 and my tdee is 1600 so that's not even a great deficit! So I put the wine back in the fridge and have settled down with a fizzy water. Happy weekend all!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/10/2026 18:59

I do a box of eggs every weekend, the boys eat them as snacks and I sometimes make scotch eggs as I put earlier in the thread, they are good and worth the effort. On hand and accessible and appropriately ‘snacky’ seems to work well for me, I like to wander into the kitchen and open the fridge for inspiration

we’re having chilli tonight. I think I’ve made it too spicy 🌶️ I am having mine with broccoli and cheese (no rice) and ending up actually 200 cals under goal which is unheard of for a Friday. And 140g protein

OP posts:
TakeTheDog · 03/10/2026 06:33

October is off to a less than ideal start 🤣

I did weigh myself and I'm the same as I was 2 weeks ago.

I have had more days of eating at maintenance so it seems that's enough to stall any loss.

Yesterday I went over maintenance though - I made an apple crumble and couldn't resist a huge, delicious, stuffing portion. And I had wine with dinner.

Thoroughly worth it.

NoEligibilityRequirementsApply · 03/10/2026 06:43

Hi all- sorry I fell off the thread due to an immensely stressful period for me.

I will weigh myself this morning and start again. Abd read back to see what I have missed. :)

NoEligibilityRequirementsApply · 03/10/2026 07:15

I've read back and saw I mentioned (way back on page 1!) that I wanted to be plant based. I have really fallen away from that and correspondingly my health issues have really suffered.

I am someone with a history of disordered eating (primarily bulimia and binge-eating) and I currently binge drink. So my plan is to 'try and eat like a normal person' and to really scale back on alcohol.

Today we are out for my DH's birthday and will be going to a wonderful Turkish restaurant. So my plan is:

B- soy yoghurt with apricots and strawberries and 1/ a bagel thin with a scrape of almond butter. (Almon butter is my current obsession).

L- dips, olives, pitta and vegetable skewers, dolmades. MMMmmmmmm!!!!! I am not going to limit msyelf at all (except for it will be vegetarian).

D- if i have a big lunch I have never been able to eat dinner so likely nothing, but perhaps again a bagl thin with sliced bananas.

Drinks will be herbal teas, - I decided some months ago to make myself like green tea, by drinking that when out at a cafe. It took a while, but I genuinely love green tea now. And it's filled with glorious anti oxidants!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2026 07:57

@TakeTheDog oooh crumble though, well worth it! I have a beautiful rhubarb which is pretty much the only thing I have successfully grown this summer and it does deserve a crumble topping 😋

OP posts:
thenewaveragebear1983 · 03/10/2026 08:08

Welcome back @NoEligibilityRequirementsApply, your food sounds good especially your Turkish lunch. Lots of plants in there.

I’m just having a quiet coffee while dh is out with the dog, then I’m going to clean this house. I’ve not planned my full days food yet, but breakfast will be eggs and lunch will be chicken and salad. I will have to investigate the dinner options. I am going to try to get out for a walk or maybe a gentle run, and use my gym this evening for 30 mins.

I didn’t drink last night and I always feel so good the morning after, i hate the feeling of wasting the precious weekend. I also had probably the best / most “on plan “ days I have had in months since 1st October. That’s such a motivating feeling rather than constantly feeling like I’ve failed.

have a great Saturday

OP posts:
NoEligibilityRequirementsApply · 03/10/2026 08:15

I agree with that feeling of wasting the weekend after drinking. I'm a binge drinker as I said and I just hate that leaden exhausted feeling. I feel like I am literally allowing my life to slip away!

Hope you have a great saturday too!
