February 10k a day

As part of me trying to form healthier habits I am trying to consistently hit 10k (or more) steps per day for the whole of February (and hopefully beyond!). I average around 8000 steps and mostly work from home sat at a desk. It's not a huge challenge and I know this is probably not even a challenge for most but wanted somewhere to be accountable and post my daily efforts.

Feel free to join me 🤩

I'm so pleased to have hit the 10,000 today. I woke up with a hideous backache this morning, it's remained all day and is making me thoroughly miserable. Without this thread i definitely would not have done any steps. I'm hoping a good night's sleep will see it off. Tomorrow's another day as they say.

Well done everyone!!
My watch is a Mi Fitness one which has its own app with the rainbows. Basically a cheap version of Fitbit. I only wanted it for the step counter function not interested really in any other thing it track so went for the cheap option! Tbf it's been great! I charge it up once a month!!

Hope your back pain improves @Joolly2 😢

For once I won’t have to do an evening treadmill walk today - I’m already on 14k, having walked into town and back this afternoon, and more painting ceilings this morning.

10kstepsaday · 22/02/2026 21:43

Today's effort!
And another week in the bag (-1 day but shhh 🤫)
Only 1 week of February left!!

I think I got my 10k in today, or at least I did some intentional walking to make sure I did! I was playing an instrument earlier and my watch tends to mistake that for steps. I had around 3,000 before I left the house and then did 5,000 on the walking pad when I got home, so think overall I'll have done my target (Fitbit thinks I've done 20k and that's definitely not the case)

It's weird that I'm actually looking forward to starting the working day at home tomorrow so I can do some walking at my desk before I have to go to meetings!

Joolly2 · 22/02/2026 22:00

I'm still struggling with backache so I'm happy to finish on 8,200. Thank goodness for painkillers. This evening it seems to be easing off so I'm hopeful tomorrow I'm back to normal.
@Proteinpudding my husband plays the guitar and can easily get 20,000 steps without moving from his chair 😄

Joolly2 · 22/02/2026 22:02

@10kstepsaday your monthly total is looking very impressive.

10kstepsaday · 22/02/2026 22:26

Well Done @Proteinpudding what instrument do you play?
Sorry to hear your back is still giving you trouble @Joolly2
To still do over 8k with back pain is impressive!! And I think better for back pain? As opposed to avoiding movement entirely.

Ah thank you! Your comment prompted me to see if my app does a monthly summary, which it does! I didn't realize. How cool though! 140km travelled in total so far, most of it around my lounge 🤣

Checking in at the end of another day. Everyone is doing so well and whether we manage the whole 10k or not, we are all doing more than we would be without this thread. So for that reason alone we are all winners. Attached my effort.

Most dats i manage 10k, but today 7k. Will make up for the deficit tomorrow!!

10kstepsaday · 23/02/2026 21:08

Well done @CleanandLight109
@ChaliceinWonderlandsome days it's just not possible but 7k is still a good amount!

A good day for me today. My DC do a 50 minute activity on a Monday. Usually I stand and chinwag with the other mums. Today I thought no, that is perfect opportunity to go for a walk! So just around the area nearby I did a big loop and got those steps in 🎉

Just checked and I've got 100 steps to do before I go to bed, that'll be a march on the spot I think as my house is tiny!
Glad I managed to squeeze in 5k on the walking pad before I drove to work today, just shows how little it would have been otherwise, I worked till 7 and I have a long commute so there's very little scope otherwise sometimes.

I agree that the number is a bit arbitrary, the main thing is we're all motivated to move more.

SilenceInside · 23/02/2026 22:15

Pleased to get to the 10k today without needing to do a treadmill walk, as I was getting a bit bored of being on it nearly every evening! It’s interesting to read about how people are fitting in extra steps around the usual daily activities.

CleanandLight109 · 23/02/2026 22:31

Well done walkers of the world
Attached my Monday total.
meeting a friend tomorrow do hope for s better Tuesday effort.

Hi everyone, my back is so much better today. I managed 10,589 steps. I tried to take a photo but the timer ticked over to Tuesday and the steps reset to zero!! I will have to remember tomorrow to take a photo before midnight.
@Proteinpudding my watch does not register steps if I walk on the spot.

Doyouthinktheyknow · 24/02/2026 18:01

Hi all, seems like everyone is smashing it, great work👏🤩
I'm back from our lovely cruise, did a minimum 20,000 steps every day we were away and no lifts so got plenty of exercise and it paid off because I didn’t gain weight despite enjoying some lovely desserts.

I’ve managed 10,000 steps minimum since returning and hit 20,000 today in some beautiful sunshine. Definitely going to continue to aim for 10,000 steps daily, feels like a good target.

Joolly2 · 24/02/2026 21:21

@Doyouthinktheyknow welcome back, excellent totals whilst on holiday, real dedication 🙂.
I have managed 14,078 steps today.

10kstepsaday · 24/02/2026 21:32

I frequently do a march on the spot 🤣 @Proteinpudding

Glad your back is much better @Joolly2
Does your watch not connect to any app?

Welcome back @Doyouthinktheyknow your cruise sounds lovely!! And 20k a day is WOW! You probably need a break now 😅

I went for a walk in the sunshine this morning! It was Lush!!!!

I did just get my steps in last night with marching on the spot, maybe because my watch doesn't have GPS so if I'm moving my arms it registers.l! Though that can mean it adding extra steps, like when playing music - apologies I didn't respond to the PP, I do a sport called capoeira, it's a cross between dance and martial arts and is done to music, so it's hand drums, tambourines and a Brazilian instrument called a berimbau.

Pleased with today, 16k steps almost entirely on walking pad while working. As I've got used to typing and walking I've managed to up my speed a bit so its a bit closer to my regular walking pace.

CleanandLight109 · 24/02/2026 23:06

Here’s my effort for the day. Sun was shining so a bit more than usual on there. Would love to see your weekly cruise screenshot @Doyouthinktheyknow - so motivating for the rest of us.

SilenceInside · 24/02/2026 23:36

So nice to see the sunshine today and feel a tiny. It of warmth in the air! Just got over the 10k this evening with a bit of concerted tidying and sorting around the house.

CleanandLight109 · 25/02/2026 21:36

I spent more time doing the gardens today ( London gardens so think postage stamp sized not sweeping lawns of Pemberley... 🤣 but lots of shrubs and pots and the first dry day for a while meant a ton of cleaning, clearing and sweeping) so not as many steps as I would have expected for the time spent outdoors and the physical nature of it.
Anyhow I am in bed as feeling very tired at this stage so screenshot attached.
Cannot believe our month is nearly done.

Proteinpudding · 25/02/2026 21:41

Mines just under 13k today, usual mixture of walking pad and sprinting from my car to an meeting venue.

I only joined the thread recently, curious for those who have done a month if you've noticed any weight loss? Appreciate there are many other benefits but it would be a nice bonus...

Joolly2 · 25/02/2026 22:28

@10kstepsaday my watch came with no instructions, I'm useless with gadgets I need written instructions. It had a QRcode which downloaded an app. Again no instructions so I'm a bit lost.
@Proteinpudding I have never heard of capoeira dancing, I had to Google it. My goodness it's very energetic, I won't trying it.😄.
My total for the day is 10,946. Sorry about the sideways photo.

11k for me today, some outside walking and general dashing about plus a short treadmill just to get my Exercise ring closed, as laps of the living room weren’t high intensity enough!
