I've changed my mind. I don't think I can give up ice cream. I'm just going to try cut down. (Touch wood) since restarting my relaxation exercises I feel more in control of my food consumption. Hoping for a lbs or two drop this month.

TheaBrandt1 · 01/08/2026 12:59

Decided to change my mindset! Am right at top of my correct bmi but on holiday and many women my age are way larger.

Will get home and do the protein try to cut sugar etc to try to shift the extra stone but actually the efforts I make have kept me vaguely in shape. Am 11 stone and 5ft 6 got to 10 stone 2 in 2020 and maintained that for 3 years looked great but then peri hit me hard. What I did before didn’t work.

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/08/2026 13:40

What was the mindset @TheaBrandt1 ?
Off to a buffet party soon. Wish me luck.

TheaBrandt1 · 01/08/2026 13:41

To think I could be a lot worse! In comparison to my peers I’m doing ok. I’m not ripped and am slightly tubby but still vaguely in shape.

HazelNotHungryLC · 01/08/2026 15:07

@TalkToTheHand123 well done for not giving in to all of the temptations!

@poorpaws good idea to draw a line under it and refocus. No sense in beating yourself up. I believe you can get below 11st 3lbs!

@thenewaveragebear1983 well done on your 2.5lbs loss in July! I'm needing a week off work soon too, I'm exhausted!

@TheaBrandt1 peri is a bitch! You have a great plan for when you're back from your holiday. Enjoy your time away.

I have been baking (and eating) zucchini bread this week. I do plan on putting some in the freezer, but I'm giving away a lot also. I am still losing weight though, but know I need to keep those portions small. It seems to be working.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/08/2026 15:23

To be fair @TalkToTheHand123 ice cream isn’t the worst treat. If I buy them in I always buy mini magnums or fruit splits, or solero which are under 100 cals. If I’m out I will choose an ice lolly rather than an ice cream, again, easy to get under 100 cals.

@TheaBrandt1 I agree, mindset is so important. The biggest one for me is I know I regret spending these years finding flaws with my perfectly acceptable, healthy body. I find it hard to actually do, but i really try to not hate every flaw, every “imperfection” and instead think of things i like, a lot of people would give a lot to be where i am
now.

My portions of ice cream are quite large. I get upset tum also and bad skin so a few reasons for me to try cut down / abstain.
The buffet turned out to be portion provided and I opted for a reduced amount so not bad.

I ended up drinking 4 pints of cider in the sun at a free music festival yesterday, it was fun and actually exactly what I needed (well, maybe not the cider) but it was nice to just detach from life a bit and chat to my friend and just be. I didn’t sleep well because I’d sobered up by 8pm so felt wired and couldn’t get to sleep, but the afternoon was fun. Much needed tonic.

I have one week till I go on holiday! Exciting! I’m going to really try to be on it this week, going to walk Maggie this morning and then do a decent workout in my gym this afternoon. I need to prep some things for the week- boiled eggs /scotch eggs, carrot sticks, and plan my gym sessions and runs. Plus some grooming- must colour my hair and do my scrub and moisturiser. I treated myself to a really nice oil mousse moisturiser yesterday. i love my summer holiday and I also really love the end of summer/ new term feeling and find it very motivating, almost like a second New Years Eve! I like to plan my autumn menu and set goals.

Hello all, I have re-committed to dieting again. Been a week. Sorry don't know anyone yet

Will say i regularly have haagen daazs Belgian chocolate but I measure out 100g. It's about 250cals. It is worth it! Anything less isn't satisfying.

My husband watched me take a bite out kf the pizza I'd prepared for him and our toddler to try it, and said "must be nice to eat pizza on a diet". It was really meanspirited, and I don't know where it came from (he says he doesn't understand why he said it either when I told him it wasnt on)and it is nothing like his normal behaviour which is usually super supportive. I am now stewing in a bath.

I know I'm very overweight and he has watched me lose and regain weight 3 times now I think, but you have to be a bit hopeful, haven't you?

It's not been a great weekend as I had fish and chips at the pub yesterday but all other meals have been sensible.

Anyone faced this sort of thing from a spouse?

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/08/2026 20:16

@Gatecrashermum hi, welcome to the thread. I’ve not really had that but I can understand why you feel it’s mean. If he isn’t normally like that , I’d forgive him (this time) as feeling angry would only make me stew. I don’t know about your dh but mine has zero understanding about dieting. He doesn’t understand calories, he doesn’t inherently know what foods are high in fat, or carbs or whatever. He eats gigantic portions and processed stuff and has no idea really how difficult it is 🤷‍♀️

I'm still on board but struggling with health related issues and having to change my diet in relation to those. I have realised that I need to drastically reduce sugar (No shit) for health and weight, but much easier said than done as we know. I can't function on no carbs but I'm not great with any of them so a high protein and lower carb ratio is the way to go for me.

Today I had turkey steaks in two meals...one with a few potatoes and veg and another chopped in a salad.

I don't tolerate bread/yeast well either.

My weight has gone up a bit but not drastically.

I wish I could exercise but currently in a lot of pain from cleaning the bathroom yesterday!

Good luck everyone, it is not easy no matter what challenges there are.

No he's not normally mean. We had a very tantrummy toddler who I think shortened both our fuses.

My husband sounds v similar to yours - not much processed stuff but enormous portions. He has actually gone from being skinny no matter what he eats to quite tubby. When I have suggested perhaps he doesn't need to eat double the normal portion of a meal he looks at my blankly. 😂 I have told him repeatedly he looks lovely and he doesn't need to change but he does seem flummoxed by the weight gain. How lucky to be mid 40s and never have dieted!

poorpaws · 02/08/2026 21:20

Hi @Gatecrashermum and welcome. I haven’t had any nasty comments from my partner, but certainly my ex-husband made plenty of comments about my weight. The thing is, I wasn’t even big then and he wasn’t exactly tall, dark and handsome himself. If it was a regular comment, I would have a lot to say to him but a one off mistake. I’d say just brush it off and forgive.

having started my diet for the thousandth time in August, I’ve had the most horrendous day today. My daughter bought me some M&S chocolate clouds which I love and I ate the whole packet and then started on other sweet treats. I know I need to get back in the zone and only a few days ago I was being very focused but yet again I’ve lost the plot. I’m wondering whether to stop weighing, I’m wondering if that makes me stop trying.

There’s a whole new week ahead to keep trying to do this. 😁

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/08/2026 06:40

DP constantly checking and commenting on what I eat. I flip now and again when the pressure lid pops, especially as I've cut right down (or believe to be). It's a bit confusing as no weight loss and only gains.
It's especially infuriating when DP cooks mountains of rice and expects me to eat most of it. I've finally learned to resist usually so hopefully it's just a case of waiting for some weighloss.
I've cut down on the ice cream I believe. I just have a little portion on a night time.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/08/2026 17:39

Tricky day today. I’m just so tired, it’s been really hot and muggy today, trying to work and deal with stressful things that I don’t really understand. I am ready for my holiday now. Only 3 days to go! I ate lots of calories because every time I felt stressed I ended up in the kitchen picking at penguin bars and other carbs. Not good, they weren’t even nice! It’s still really close and muggy and I’m sat on the sofa feeling really hormonal and tearful.

@thenewaveragebear1983 don’t cry, you’ll be ok. Think nice thoughts like your holiday very soon. I think you need a good rest and hopefully that’s what you’ll get in exactly three days 😁

i’ve had a tricky day too. As you all know by now, I can’t get DP out of the house and I get stir crazy if I don’t go out with a friend or DD. I’d watched something on YouTube, which was very close to home, with the sea and holiday makers and it made me realise what I’m missing. It wasn’t quite as hot here today so we took the dogs out in the day and after our normal walk I decided I wanted to walk near the sea. I think DP was reluctant but really he didn’t have a lot of choice. As we were out some time, we called at a café for coffee and then had an ice cream and then DP and I had a chat!

The chat was mainly me complaining and the outcome was that we are going to go out a lot more if only for ice cream and coffee. DP blamed my diet on the fact that we don’t go out, that did not go down well! Anyway, I’m going out tomorrow on my own, I’m going out with DD for breakfast on Thursday and I’m dragging DP somewhere on Friday if it kills him or me. The reason I’m telling you this is that a lot of calories could be consumed and I’m going to try and maintain throughout August and possibly September and then knuckle down when the weather is not so nice. As you can probably tell I’m absolutely sick and tired of wasting this summer and I’m not prepared to do it anymore.

sorry if this sounds like a rant and I know I should be concentrating on healthy eating but just for a while,at least whilst the sun is shining, I want to be out having fun.

Today is only one day. Draw a line under it and do your best tomorrow.

I hope tomorrow is less stressful and roll on your holiday!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 06/08/2026 06:40

I did have a better day yesterday although I was in a grumpy mood and I’m sure people in the office realised. I’m trying not to just give in to it though, I know I’m tired and hormonal and adjusting to my new HRT, I’m on day 19 now and not had a mid cycle period so hopefully that is a sign that it is working and my body is adjusting to it. and I didn’t have any big binge or blow out although I probably didn’t end the day on a deficit. I think I kind of feel that that horse has bolted now anyway 🤣

today then, I am going to walk Maggie, and I really want to go for a run as it’s so much cooler now. And I am going to do a session in my gym tonight, not sure what yet but maybe a short leg workout and then a yoga video on YouTube. We’re running low on food so it’s probably salad and tuna for lunch and dinner I have taken some pork steaks out and I have lots of veg to use before we go away. Maybe some sort of stir fry?

2 days to go …….
