@thenewaveragebear1983 I had the tests you mention at my request several years ago because I was so worried about my sugar addiction and consumption. I cannot quite remember how many things were tested but all tests were good and I was told I was not pre-diabetic. This was around Covid time or just after I feel, although it’s difficult to know the exact timing but I would say a minimum of four years.

ive always felt very different to family and friends and have been mocked for the amount I can eat, am never full and never feel sickly after mountains of sweet things. I have a couple of family members who are at least 4 to 5 stones more than me and yet they don’t seem to eat anything like I can. I know as a child I was exceptionally thin and hardly ate anything but in my adult years I’ve always had a big appetite and the more I eat the more I want to eat.

I’ve toned things down today, I’ve eaten around 1350 calories but both last night and tonight I am absolutely exhausted. I always wash up immediately after dinner and last night I did half of the washing up and had to sit down and tonight I’ve not started it yet and that never ever ever happens here because I can’t bear dirty dishes.

I was supposed to go to my daughter’s tonight, but I’ve had to text her and cancel Because I just don’t have any energy. I don’t know if my ME is playing up again or if it’s food related. I do know it’s absolutely impossible to see a Dr here unless you are at deaths door.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2026 06:55

That’s interesting @poorpaws, I am the same. If I’m away with dh I am very aware that I eat far far more than him, he probably eats more calories per item, but I eat more overall. Given free rein I could easily eat 3-4000 calories regularly. My kids and I joke that I could eat an entire birthday cake- never tried it but I know I could!

it rained here last night! How exciting! I am going to make the most of cooler weather and clean my house today, it’s a tip!

@thenewaveragebear1983 I have never known anyone who can eat as much as I can so that’s very interesting. I think I’ve been on a diet since I was 19. Whether it’s related or not I’m not sure but I met my ex at age 19 and he was a very fast eater and on our first date he had finished his meal before I was a quarter way through mine. Now I eat quickly too and I’m not sure that’s a good thing but definitely a copied behaviour over the years. I eat a lot faster than DP and it can be embarrassing but I can’t seem to slow down. I’m wondering if you eat very quickly too. I could definitely eat a whole birthday cake.

i’ve changed my weigh day back to Sunday morning just because my treat day changes the number on the scales. I’ve lost a whopping quarter of a pound this week 😀 But it does mean I’ve lost 6 lbs in four weeks so I’ve completed 6/6 early. I’m now 11 stone 2 3/4 lbs and I’d love to get the two and three-quarter pounds off in the next couple of weeks, but somehow I don’t think it’s going to happen since I’m at my “sticking” weight.

i’m hoping to have a quiet day at home today. My house is a tip too at the moment and needs a good clean but I really don’t have the energy today. DD is coming around later for an hour but apart from that I’m going to take it easy and try to regain some energy.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2026 08:37

As a child I was always hungry. My mum would give me dry bread and even now I could eat a slice of dry white bread, or dry crackers. Buffets are a nightmare for me because variety is too tempting, I could never go on a cruise because I’d eat and eat and eat 🤣 and also I can weirdly strict and restrictive. For example I have not eaten McDonald’s in probably 10 years, even when my kids eat it. I have eaten no cheese this week because I realised I was eating 200 calories a day of just cheese 🧀 🤷‍♀️ I wonder if it is a type of adhd? It’s like I just don’t feel the food, I only feel the “high” and I like feeling really full as well which some people hate. It makes it hard though because I can always eat, I find a deficit just leaves me feeling very empty.

i’m going to walk the dog in the rain then go and return some shorts (honestly every year I leave it too late then the shops are full of size 6 and size 20 and nothing in between, managed to find one pair in Tesco yesterday in a 12 but when I put them on they are just too short- and they were £22! For supermarket shorts!). Then blitz my housework. My kids are away this week so I’m going to have 3 days of healthy meals and early nights.

Have you ever tried to slow down your eating? I don’t think I eat really really fast, my dh does, he barely chews his food and it rattles me. I try to put a lot of salad on my plate and eat that first, it’s harder to eat and seems to help fill me up, but I always finish my plate whatever is on there.

OP posts:
poorpaws · 26/07/2026 08:51

@thenewaveragebear1983 I have tried many many times to eat slowly. I can’t bear hot food that has then gone cold and if I eat slowly that’s what happens, cold chips 😬. I’m not sure if this is an excuse or not because as I said earlier I used to eat incredibly slowly and I was naturally very thin because I’ve always walked a lot.

I am definitely an all or nothing person. I can eat mountains of food, much more than anyone else I know but with the right mind frame I can diet and be very restrictive. At work, I had a can of celery soup and an apple for lunch and would never eat anything else. I suppose I’m the same now with my watermelon or strawberries and yoghurt for lunch, but now in the evenings I’m not busy and that’s when I graze.

My daughter is absolutely addicted to cheese, it’s her favourite food and it’s because as she was growing up we only had cheese at Christmas and Easter. I always followed the low fat diet so cheese was forbidden and actually I only have cheese in now for DP and I very rarely touch it. The same with milky drinks, I love a latte but I drink black coffee all the time.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 26/07/2026 09:43

How funny, we are so similar. I hate warm food, I like it piping hot and will sometimes microwave my dinner halfway through to get it hot enough! I also only drink black coffee, again because I cannot stand lukewarm milky drinks. That all or nothing mindset can help us, but also sometimes I find it exhausting, and wish I could just have a bit and be satisfied. I think for me it’s some kind of childhood legacy of perfectionism and, I don’t know if I’ve said this before, my parents are such dieters. They have done every single diet, my dad is super 100% strict and my mother hates it so they cycle on and off diets all the time. My mum does slow slimming world (misery) and my dad will do some random crash diet or cut out all carbs and lose loads then pile it back on. I am doomed really either way 🤣

Hi. I've been doing relaxation techniques and this seems to have slowed my eating. I've been having weetabix also which seems to have helped me binge less.

poorpaws · 26/07/2026 09:57

My ex hated me being fat. After I’d given birth to my daughter, the very next day he told me I still looked pregnant and I’d have to lose weight!

all the men in my family are tall and very thin, the women are short and fat. My mum was a size 18, the weight all on her tummy and she hated it but didn’t do anything about it. She was the thinnest one of her three sisters.

my daughter is tiny, really tiny, a size 8 is big on her and she’s only 5 ft but she’s become very happy with a new man for the last six months and she’s starting to gain a little weight which I’m delighted about.

its a combination of many things that make us gain and then lose weight. I think I’ve got quite a foody week coming up. DP has suddenly realised that I am unhappy about how little we go out (the fish and chips out with DD were a wake-up call apparently) so he’s now planning little outings which will include food. 🤦🏼‍♀️

TalkToTheHand123 · 26/07/2026 10:55

I have a partner who doesn't like to go out drinking or eating. Total opposite of the previous one. My weight over the last few years has yoyoed between 14 and 15 stone although the last few months seems to have stuck at 15 stone. Job change last year means less walking but still a bit baffled.
I used to eat lots of sausages and burgers and drink a fair bit of alcohol. I've cut all these out pretty much yet no weight loss. I'm guessing it is due to eating a lot of rice last few months. Fortunately I seem to have gone off rice a bit now. My plan is to drink more soup and slowly and get back on the salads.

Specialneedsnightmare · 26/07/2026 11:45

I have a very poor appetite overall. I was underweight my entire life until my mum died and peri started. Now I have gained and it's thr sugary foof. I always loved sugar but until peri I could get away with it, at least in terms of weight.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 27/07/2026 20:58

today, my food has been good and I have ended up within my calories. I took a rest day after a heavy weekend of running. Had my acupuncture after work.

I spent 2 hours today relocating my France holiday as we were due to be 60km from the wildfires, I have managed to rebook about 200k north of there so hopefully we should be ok and not be at risk.

Tomorrow I am in the office all day in stacked up meetings, I’ll take my salad lunch and some fruit, it’s always dehydration that gets me on Tuesdays so I am determined to drink at least one refill of my bottle tomorrow 💦

OP posts:
HazelNotHungryLC · 28/07/2026 06:31

@TalkToTheHand123 when I changed jobs 6 years ago I gained 10lbs in less than 4 months, due to walking less. It's harder when that happens as it means either move more or eat less! At least in my case.

@thenewaveragebear1983 I hope you are far enough away from the wildfires so you can enjoy your holiday.

I'm in the US and we have wildfires all around us. It was cloudy for a lot of the day today and the smoke wasn't going anywhere! I had to use my inhaler as my breathing got so bad. The clouds have lifted and it's a lot better outside, but still smoky. The wind is blowing the smoke to us, we are not in danger.

My eating has been good today. I had my creamy coffee with collagen and probiotics this morning. Lunch was Greek yogurt with blueberries and a keto granola. Dinner was shrimp and kelbasa with bell pepper kebabs, with a salad. So good 😋

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/07/2026 07:03

@TalkToTheHand123 I agree about the walking. I do a lot of exercise but over time I have slowed down and run less and walk more and I’m sure that has contributed to my creeping weight gain. Same with working from home, most of my steps each day now are deliberate walks whereas in previous jobs I was just busy all day. Still get the steps in most days but I have to actively do it now. Could you factor in a walk each day? Even 20-30 mins? It’s so good for your headspace as well as your fitness.

@HazelNotHungryLC yes the air quality is what’s mostly worrying me really, i think where we were sited we’d have been ok fire wise but the smoke and air quality concerned me. I don’t think they will stop travel just on that so we would have been unable to claim on our insurance. I feel much better now we’ve switched.

office day today. My boys are away so I’m just enjoying a quiet cup of coffee. It’s cooler today at least for now. I’m taking a packed lunch (our staff canteen is amazing and I’d been getting into the habit of buying a deli sandwich and drink, and maybe a cookie 🤦‍♀️) then for dinner we have gnocchi and pesto and smoked salmon. Delicious but calorie heavy- the pesto is more calories than the gnocchi!

TalkToTheHand123 · 28/07/2026 08:00

I'm scheduled out of the office quite a bit now due to changes so this should mean a few more steps. Touch wood I'm getting back into my little night time work out routine also. Doing a few extra stretches too. Seem to be eating a bit less. Yesterday I managed to avoid the pastry section at the supermarket also which was quite an achievement.

poorpaws · 28/07/2026 08:14

Hi everyone@thenewaveragebear1983 i’m sure you’ll be okay on holiday and will enjoy it. Are you going for two weeks? I ask this because I’m going to try and lose 2 lbs whilst you’re away..

my weight loss has really slowed down now to almost nothing, If I weigh mid week, I’ve usually lost a measly half a pound and then by the time weigh day comes I’ve put It on again. I still think it’s my evenings that are my problem and since I’ve stopped having chocolate in the evening I’ve swapped it for crisps and mini cheddars 🤦🏼‍♀️

i’ve decided that I don’t mind a very slow weight loss but a bit more than quarter of a pound would be helpful. I’ve bought a mini milk frother to liven up my coffees a little bit. There’s already a frother on my old coffee machine, which I very rarely use, but it doesn’t froth up much and this new small one which was quite cheap is very good. I use skimmed milk So it’s not too many calories and the coffee is lovely and hot and it makes a change from boring black coffees all day. I suppose it’s a novelty at the moment and will go to the back of the cupboard where all useless gadgets go eventually, which. is precisely why I bought a cheap one, but at the moment it’s really quite nice to have a different coffee.

I haven’t really much to report. I did a very healthy food shop yesterday and we’re still walking the dogs in the evening but apart from that there’s very little happening here of interest.

enjoy your Tuesday whatever you’re doing.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 28/07/2026 19:44

I’m away 12 days I think @poorpaws. I’m
Sure you can lose 2lb in that time. Would you be better off weighing on a different day? I’ve started using my Friday weigh in or Saturday if I run as my lowest weight of the week . Our weights fluctuate too much to give such a narrow window and expect that to be our best weight loss.

i just did my first workout in my new gym, I’ve done a few bits but not a proper structured session with weights. Made myself go straight out there after work to get it in.

my office day was long today with lots of meetings and our last one was a big social thing with cakes and scones with Jam and cream. Obviously I had one of those 😋

OP posts:
poorpaws · 30/07/2026 08:04

It has not gone well for the last two days, I’m completely out of the zone and can’t stop eating. It’s obvious I’m 11 st 3 lbs again because once I get there, I don’t seem to be able to do anymore.

@thenewaveragebear1983 i’ve given up on the idea of losing 2 lbs whilst you’re away because at the moment it’s just not achievable, my mood has moved.

I’m at the hospital this morning again and I have quite a lot to say. I’m not sure what’s going to happen but I’ve got physio fatigue, I’ve been doing it for over four months, four times a day and I just don’t want to do it anymore. I’m absolutely fed up of the surgeon and the physio specialist being in disagreement and I’m in the middle of it.

It isn’t going to be a very good day for me, but I hope everyone else has a happy Thursday.

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/07/2026 11:59

Weighing on a different day doesn't sound promising. 😆
Currently surrounded by temptations. Team buffet and local food shops.

HazelNotHungryLC · 30/07/2026 18:15

@poorpaws I'm sorry your day doesn't look promising. Tomorrow will be a new day, maybe it'll be better and you'll have more focus. Try shifting your mindset, so you start thinking that you can do this and you can get below your sticking point. Easier said than done though, I know.
Only have healthy food in your house, don't have anything tempting easy to grab. Make it so you would have to go to the shop to buy what you can't resist, and only get one, so you're not undoing all of your hard work in one sitting.

@TalkToTheHand123 resist the temptations!!

Yesterday was my weigh in day. I'm down to 159.4lbs! I haven't been below 160lbs in a while!

Specialneedsnightmare · 30/07/2026 19:02

It seems to be really common that after a good start it becomes harder to shift the weight. I've definitely found it harder to commit as time goes on.

I've lost two pounds since the start. Not great but not awful either. I'm glad it's a loss anyway.

I think hormones are causing me a lot of issues, health and otherwise. I'm scared that I need to cut out sugar and yet I don't think I can.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 30/07/2026 20:11

I think it’s partly because the initial
loss is often water weight, so after that whoosh you then slow right down. I find if I lose too quickly (which rarely happens) I then get much worse cravings. slow and steady seems to be best for me but then I do have to contend with weekend gains undoing whole weeks of work 🤷‍♀️

my new HRT seems to have settled well. I haven’t had any side effect and I don’t seem to have had uk bloating and tiredness that some people report from the progesterone tablets. I will be interest to see how my cycle pans out, I am on day 10 now.

we had a nice meal last night, and a few wines. Today I’ve been tired and really just wanting something, anything really. I haven’t gone too crazy but I have probably had more calories than is ideal considering I’m yet to eat dinner!

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 01/08/2026 06:48

Hi all.
@HazelNotHungryLC I did quite well. I ended up having a couple of small wraps and a few chicken bites.
Just weighed, remaining at my current highest 15.0 stone, although I feel a lot slimmer than usual. My diet seems to be improving slowly. Weatabix seems to be helping prevent some of the binge eating at the moment. Plan to try cut down on ice cream.

poorpaws · 01/08/2026 08:20

It’s feast or famine here, I hardly ever go out and this week I’ve not been in and every meal has been at cafes/ice cream parlours, where I’ve eaten tons of sweet stuff. I’ve been horrendous, absolutely horrendous and I’ve had an incredible weight gain in just a few days. Normally I would be going through everything I’ve eaten, telling you every piece of cake and all the ice cream I’ve consumed but instead of that I’m going to tell you I’ve drawn a line under it all, pretended I’ve been on holiday even though I haven’t and that I’m back on it today, 1st August.

i’ve said this before, but I do it every single time. I do really well with the diet, get to 11 st 3 and then go mad so my new goal for August is to somehow by the end of the month get under that 11 st 3 lbs. It won’t be easy, I’ve got quite a few meals lined up, including an all you can eat breakfast on Thursday and I can eat a lot but I’m going to try. If I fail in August, I shall try in September but I need to get under 11.st 3 at some point, and that is my main goal.

I am upset with myself that I failed so miserably this week but I’m being kind to myself and trying again.

I hope you are all well and whatever eating plan you’re on, it’s working for you

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/08/2026 09:33

I lost 2.5lbs in July, weighed in today at 11.1, that’s actually a lot for me especially given we’ve had this entire month of sunshine and feeling like we’re on holiday and eating and drinking a lot. If I could consistently average 2.5 a month I’d actually be chuffed. My next goal is to be under the 11’s consistently but 2 weeks on holiday will probably mean I’m back up loads. When I get back though I can really focus myself again. I always say I’m not going to go mad on holiday and then I get away and I just go 🤷‍♀️

today we are popping into Stratford to get some bits for holiday for the kids and then this afternoon I’m going to a free music festival in the park, I’ll be honest I don’t really want to but I’ve committed to friends and I will go, but I’m not going to eat or drink there.

I’m going to really try next week for one last big push, high protein and cut the carbs, just to give me a little boost and offset a bit of my inevitable weight gain! I am genuinely exhausted and cannot wait to go away, it’s been a really stressful few months. I was saying to my friend, it’s not work that had been exhausting it’s the constant feeling like I’m winging it and the constant having to speak to and psych myself up to contact people I don’t know, my social battery is just totally drained. I am so looking forward to being away with just my gang, my book, and the sea.
