2 months until Christmas. Anyone up for losing half a stone with me?

I am on a couple of these threads and lost over a stone on a focussed "summer holidays" thread earlier in the year. However, they seemed to have naturally tailed off and so have my efforts! Since returning to work/school in Sept, I have been less motivated and have been gaining and losing the same couple of lbs.

Anyway...I am currently 11st 6.5lbs (I'm 5"3). Ideally I would like to get down to 10st, but I never seem to get there before gaining again.

So, I thought I would set myself another manageable mini goal of moving into the 10s by Christmas to help me re-focus.

Since turning 40, weight loss has slowed right down, so I am going to aim for half a stone loss by Christmas as a first step.

I am going to weigh in on Wednesdays

Anyone is welcome to join me 🙂

Hello happy snail!

I will join but I keep joining these threads and then drifting away when I fall off the diet wagon.

I’ve managed to lost 8kg over the summer.

I am 49 years old, 5’9 and weigh 12 stone 8lb. I am aiming to get down to 11 stone 7lb by next summer.

I think half a stone by Christmas will be tricky but I am going to try.

Currently my approach is:

  • eat nothing after 8pm (mostly successful)
  • porridge for breakfast mid morning
  • exercise bike 45 mins each day (mostly unsuccessful due to an injury but I am slowly improving)
  • reduce carbs and crisps (definitely effective) and swap for something else

My biggest challenge is gluttony 😂

SpreadHummusNotHate · 24/10/2025 10:57

I will join!
I’ve managed to lose a stone since May going from 12st7 to 11st6 - ultimately I’d like to lose another stone but if I could do half by Christmas that’d be great

mainly I’ve just been trying to plan meals more, stick to the meals I’ve planned, not buy lunch at work and not give myself a chocolate treat every evening 🤣

I need to try and make exercise a habit - I usually get my steps in walking the dog but I don’t think it’s enough especially approaching 40!

dukandiet · 24/10/2025 21:49

Oh yes please i am planning to start on Sunday

Madreamigajefa2 · 24/10/2025 21:57

I'll join you! I'm doing intermittent fasting with a reduction in carbs, though at this time of year I find water boring so am allowing myself the odd sugar free drink or milky coffee. I'm actually determined to stay motivated until Easter as I'm hoping to lose around 3 stone (the 3 stone I have been putting on these last few years). Let's do this!

happysnail12 · 24/10/2025 22:44

Thanks for joining me everyone.

I loosely follow intermittent fasting too and am just generally trying to be more mindful.

I joined the gym in September and have only been once! so need to find some motivation there!

I’ll join!

QueenStevie · 26/10/2025 20:42

Hi, I have been directed over to this board from chat.

I would love to join.
I'm 43. Currently 12st 8 and 5'8".
BMI puts me at overweight.

I would like to be around 10st 10. I think that's realistic. I was that weight for a long time and was happy there.

I'm thinking of I can lose half a stone by Christmas that will be a good start.

I am greedy and need to do more exercise! I am currently on half term so I am hoping I can get off to a good start this week.

happysnail12 · 28/10/2025 23:52

So I've been away with family for the start of half term and gone to absolute pot again! 😭

I hardly dare weigh in tomorrow!

However fresh start in the morning. Going to try and get my eating back on track and get my bum back in the gym!

I’ll join as guilty too of trailing off other threads. I have loads to lose after gaining 20kg in the last two years on already high numbers! I’m tall and my goal is to get to 80kg, which will give me a BMI of 25, which is .1 into overweight category but the recommended weight for my height is unsustainable- I was 70 kg and a size 10 when I met my DH. Now in my 60s 80kg will be size 12-14 and I’ll be thrilled with that.
I’ve lost 12kg since the start of September and hope to get rid of another 7kg by Christmas. Just calorie counting and cutting out all booze. I eat the same breakfast and lunch every day and a variety for dinner, plus a snack. I eat at least 7 portions of veg a day. I try to up my protein. If I get the munchies at night (my downfall) I eat pickles! Very low cal and it seems to do the trick. I plan my meals for the week and that helps to keep me on track. I’m currently managing to stay away from all the Halloween candy I’ve stocked up on! It will be harder once my DD returns from uni but I’m planning on giving myself a break during Christmas week.

happysnail12 · 29/10/2025 16:14

Right, complete honesty otherwise this isn't going to work! I've not started well! The scales say +4lbs today, but I feel some of that may be water weight after being a complete carb glutton between Saturday- Tuesday.

I've refocused today and have actually stuck to plan!

I'm going to officially weigh in next Wednesday. Official re-start as of today! 🙈

I’d love to join, I need to get my motivation together though, I’ll do my best, half a stone would be great. I weighed at 10.6, 9.13 by Xmas would be great 😊

happysnail12 · 05/11/2025 12:25

Right I'm back to where I started after ruining myself last week! From today I am going to weigh in every Wednesday (as orginally planned!).

I've been pretty good this week and got myself back on track. Fingers crossed I might actually lose something for the next weigh in!

05/11/25: 11st 6.5lbs

Morning everyone 😊

Caught up with the thread now. How's everyone getting on?

I am just over 5ft and 12 stone 6 pounds. My plan is to have less portions of food, only one snack a day and exercise more. I was counting calories over the Summer but I am now so fed up of logging and weighing everything so will see how I go just using my judgement. Went for a 3.5 mile walk at the weekend and done a 45 minute Joe Wicks workout on YouTube yesterday. My arse and thigh muscles are sore today so will have a rest from exercise today or might do a little bit of yoga. Going out with dh tonight will try and not go overboard.

Onwards and downward to Christmas 🎄

BravebutBroken · 11/11/2025 12:07

Bit late to the party but better later than never 👋🏻
Now only 6 weeks until Christmas but I'm going to persevere in avoiding the mince pies!
I've lost 2.5 stone since June but have now slowed down and struggling to keep motivated. I've cut out carbs and increased protein but the last couple of weeks I've had a few too many chocolatey treats!
I'm 5' 8" and currently 12st 1lb. Would like to get to 11st 6lbs. But even 1lb a week would get me a lot closer 😊

pushthebuttonnn · 11/11/2025 12:17

I'll join too , need to lose a bit in order to wear all my nice Christmas clothes without having a massive tummy sticking out . The thought of the big belly alone motivates me! I've had granola with Greek yogurt and berries for breakfast. Planning crackers and cheese for lunch with some more fruit. Dinner will be a tiny portion of mash, some veg and a quorn fillet (no batter)

happysnail12 · 11/11/2025 15:00

Hi everyone, glad I have some company. Thanks for joining me 😊

I'm feeling much more on track. I have been back in the gym and I'm trying my best to be mindful of what eat.

The lead up to Christmas is so hard...miserable weather, more socialising and lots of delicious food everywhere! Going to do my best to get as close to the 10s as I can, but as long as I don't have to start January by losing all the usual Christmas weight, I'll be happy!

I am weighing in tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed for a loss!

In the last 4 weeks I lost 8 lbs and want to lose another half a stone by Xmas. I totally gave up anything sugary and starting walking approx 3 miles a day. Planning to up that to 5 miles a day. I’m hoping that will be the thing that gets this last half a stone off.

happysnail12 · 12/11/2025 07:51

Wow @Issueswiththetap that's amazing, well done! I just can't seem to lose at that rate anymore no matter what I try!

So I'm going to keep going with the slow and stready approach 🐌

2 years ago I was 15st 9lbs so trying to remember how far I've come. Just need to keep plodding!

I was eating a lot of sweet stuff though so I think cutting out sugar automatically put me in a calorie deficit. Sugar in tea and coffee, biscuits, cake, chocolate. My base diet is really healthy veg salad chicken fish etc but I was kidding myself each day that it meant I could have desserts and treats and they were just helping the weight stay firmly on!!

Issueswiththetap · 12/11/2025 08:32

I had a horrendous headache the first 5 days and nights too and a few tears even when I was desperate for chocolate. I’ve told myself that I’ll have some on xmas day so I’m trying to focus on that !

happysnail12 · 12/11/2025 13:01

It's obviously working well for you @Issueswiththetap Well done for persevering! Sounds like you are doing amazingly.

I'm not too bad with "obvious" sugar but find it very difficult to give up/cut down on carbs. I suppose this is similar in that I go to it for immediate gratification/energy but it's often short lived and spikes blood sugar etc. I try my best to limit refined carbs but just love bread, pasta, potatoes etc!

JG24 · 12/11/2025 20:35

I'm joking you. I actually bought some scales today, thinking the number going down will motivate me. No idea how much I weigh, just know I was 30 BMI 3 years ago...let's see what the scales tomorrow morning say
