2 months until Christmas. Anyone up for losing half a stone with me?

happysnail12 · 24/10/2025 08:04

I am on a couple of these threads and lost over a stone on a focussed "summer holidays" thread earlier in the year. However, they seemed to have naturally tailed off and so have my efforts! Since returning to work/school in Sept, I have been less motivated and have been gaining and losing the same couple of lbs.

Anyway...I am currently 11st 6.5lbs (I'm 5"3). Ideally I would like to get down to 10st, but I never seem to get there before gaining again.

So, I thought I would set myself another manageable mini goal of moving into the 10s by Christmas to help me re-focus.

Since turning 40, weight loss has slowed right down, so I am going to aim for half a stone loss by Christmas as a first step.

I am going to weigh in on Wednesdays

Anyone is welcome to join me 🙂

Well done on your loss happysnail! I've come to realise that stress makes me reach for certain things (coke&chocolate) I was having a good eating day today (wfh) but realised I missed an appointment and got a call about ds behaviour from school. This really upset things and caused me to spiral🙁

happysnail12 · 13/11/2025 07:14

Sorry to hear that @pushthebuttonnn I can 100% relate. I am the same - a classic emotional/stress eater. I've recently returned to counselling and this is one of the things I hope to explore. Food is definitely a coping mechanism. Hope things are more settled for you today x

Sorry to read you had a difficult day yesterday @pushthebuttonnn I hope today is much better for you.

@happysnail12 I hope your therapy works out well for you over time.

Welcome to all the new people who have joined this group.

Starting weight 12 St 6pounds
Current weight 12 St 5 pounds

That's 1 pound off this week really happy with that. I didn't manage any yoga or anything on Tuesday as I was sore so had a rest day. Tuesday night out with dh was fab although I had a few red wines, gin and then a big mac meal on the way home. Went out yesterday for a one hour walk which thankfully helped stretch off my sore muscles and I am back to normal today. Looking at the pictures from Tuesday night, honestly I look terrible like a space hopper ball. Going to try my best to do 3 hours of exercise per week which hopefully will change my shape and stay mindful of what am eating especially the night time snacks in front of the TV.

Onwards and 🤞downwards to Christmas for us all 🎄

So I tried out my fancy new scales this morning (they link to an app and everything!)
I am 83kg which tbh means nothing to me as I work in stones but the silly scales only uses kg. A quick Google says I'm 13st 1lb.
I'm 5ft4 so I'm comfortably into the obese BMI category
I've been eating really well this week (except for a chicken kebab that I had out for my lunch on Wednesday!)
I'm tracking my food on the nutracheck app which I'm finding easy to use and I like putting my planned meals in then seeing what calories I have left to play with. It suggests 1200 calories a day....but if you do exercise you get more calories so that is motivation! Therefore i've done week 1 runs 1 & 2 of the couch 2 5k this week

ErmThisOne · 13/11/2025 20:37

I’ll jump on too. I am on another under a different name, but it’s gone quiet.

40, 11st 7 and a half. Target is 10st but aiming for Easter.

happysnail12 · 13/11/2025 21:49

Well done on your loss @Summersunshinebliss 😊

@JG24 sounds like a great plan. Well done for taking the first steps.

Welcome @ErmThisOne we have similar stats. I'm aiming for 10 stone eventually too. Maybe we can continue to Easter, once we've survived Christmas!

ErmThisOne · 14/11/2025 06:28

@happysnail12 definitely! Nice to have someone with the same start/stat/goal as it’s easier to push each other on. My weigh in is officially Saturday, but I do daily to try and stay on track and learn what foods make a difference. I’ve lost 22lb since May, but for the last 4 ish years hovered around 11 and half.

happysnail12 · 14/11/2025 07:23

@ErmThisOne Yes, I am very similar. I weigh in daily (to keep me focused and track fluctuations etc) and then do an official weigh in on Wednesday.

My weights gone up and down my whole adult life and at my heaviest (pre-children) I got up to 18 stone!

However over the last 12 ish years the pattern has been....gain to about 15 stone (go into denial/fuck it mode)...panic...get down to 11ish stone.....feel better about myself.....relax my focus....gain again!

I went down from 15st 9lbs to 11st 7lbs in the year before my sister's wedding which was in Aug 24. So I have actually managed to somewhat break the pattern ("only" gained a stone before getting my head in the game this time).

However, I never seem to make it to my goal of 10 stone. I get into the 11s and a size 12 and get complacent.

I really want to get myself into a healthy bracket and stay there this time!

Sorry for the long tangent! 🤣

@happysnail12 well we will smash it together! Not tonight though, tonight is pizza. Not out this weekend or next weekend so no alcohol which seems to fuck the scales up for me.

GreenCorduroy · 14/11/2025 17:58

Hey Ladies, I'd love to join you too!

I have a similar pattern, I was overweight growing up but managed to loose it but it's been up and down ever since. I went from 200lb to 152lb last year by counting calories and walking. I managed to stay really focused but since I stated a new job 6 months ago I've managed to get back up to 172 lb. I'm only 5'2 so it's made a huge difference on me. I bought myself a threadmill last week and want to focus on doing the things that I know will work.

happysnail12 · 14/11/2025 19:10

Thanks @ErmThisOne we've got this! 💪

And welcome @GreenCorduroy great to have you along for the ride x

It's so hard to eat well this time of year
My partner does the shopping/cooking and he's come back today with a Camembert, crusty bread, baileys and he's made an apple crumble...

happysnail12 · 15/11/2025 18:21

Oh my goodness @JG24 I would find it nearly impossible to resist any of those! 🤤 I've not had the best day either. Went for a garden centre lunch with my best friend...delicious but not great for the waistline!

Can you change the units in the app?

QueenStevie · 16/11/2025 19:45

Can you change the units in the app?

Thanks yes I figured this out this morning!
After a good week I've such stodgy calorific food all weekend...it's so much easier to eat well during the week!
How's everyone else doing?

GreenCorduroy · 17/11/2025 10:00

The weekends are the hardest, I did pretty well then yesterday evening had pizza. I've done my shopping and going to batch cook today for all my lunches, if I'm organised it's easier but I find it hard to prioritise doing that for myself..

happysnail12 · 18/11/2025 12:40

Yes, I definitely find the weekends more difficult, especially if there is socialising involved!

I have managed to stay pretty much to plan, but unfortunately the scales have not been my friend! Not sure what's happening, but I suddenly went up 2lbs on Sunday morning and they haven't shifted since! 🙈 (I know there are pros and cons to weighing daily but I find it helps me stay on track).

I will officially weigh-in tomorrow, but I'm not hopeful 🙄

Guess, I just need to keep going and eventually it will move down 🤞

BravebutBroken · 18/11/2025 19:11

Scales haven't changed for me either and I thought i'd been making pretty good choices 😭 hoping for a strike of luck come morning!

ErmThisOne · 18/11/2025 21:30

Scales went up Friday, but by today have come back down with a little extra off. 11st 6.75. 11 st 6 by Friday would be great. 5 even better!

happysnail12 · 19/11/2025 07:16

So as anticipated, a gain this Wednesday weigh in.... +1lb 🙈

It's so frustrating! I have stuck to plan, have been going to the gym and the result is a gain 😪

I feel like this is part of why I always re-gain weight. I get to this point and it feels like I constantly lose and gain the same lb without making significant progress.

I realise I am just feeling negative and need to keep going but still.....

05/11/25: 11st 6.5lbs
12/11/25: 11st 5lbs
19/11/25: 11st 6lbs 🙄

OP posts:
ErmThisOne · 19/11/2025 07:19

I get this every 8/9 lbs or so. I seem to stagnate for a couple of weeks, have a binge because I feel sorry for myself and then go again. I find sometimes I need to have a higher intake day to kick start things. 11st 6.5 for me today

happysnail12 · 19/11/2025 07:30

Yes, rationally I know that this is all part of the process and that weight loss isn't linear etc. It's just so disheartening.

Feel like it's all so slow moving now! And everytime I make any dent in the number on the scales, I gain for want feels like no reason 😭

I really need to do my measurements. I always intend to and don't get around to it!

OP posts:
ErmThisOne · 19/11/2025 07:34

Very disheartening!

My measurements feel like they don’t change, but then all of a sudden dropped an inch and a half. Took nearly 20lbs for that though. I feel like I am all out of proportion and have quite a big waist which feels a bit shit. I just want to be slim!

happysnail12 · 19/11/2025 07:55

I'm the other way around. I carry all my weight on my bum and legs! My mum mentioned the body roundness index (BRI) as an alternative to bmi. Keep meaning to take my measurements and use the online calculator, but then forgetting. Might try and remember tonight
