5 stone weight loss, nobody has said a word

laylay9 · 07/10/2025 19:30

Hey guys i have joined this forum because i read good stuff and tips, was silently lurking for a while but now i have joined.

I need advice because truly i am baffled
I have lost on the scales 5 stones and 2 pounds

I have gone down 3 dress sizes, i can do things i would have dreamed of many months ago, walk for miles, touch my toes no wheezing and even my silouhette has gone down big time aka on narrow pavements people dont need to move out of the way.

What is absolutly baffling is unless i mention it to people, nobody brings it up. Literally nobody, whether it is people i have not seen for 3 months or people i see every day, nobody.

Worst still - the odd time i do mention to people 'have you noticed i have lost weight' they will make a vague reply of' oh yes your face looks slimmer'.

Ugh i mean what the heck. Face? that all? really?

I did not do the weight loss for them, it was so i can get to 50 without a heart attack, so i do not care wether they approve or are happy for me or not.

However - when i look it up on chatgpt and many forums apparently it says people are shy, might think i lost because of a medical issue, etc etc.

However - this is what gets me, the same people who are making more or less zero comment on my massive weight loss aka neighbours, and shopkeepers are the SAME PEOPLE who had no problem making big comments in the past like 'have you always been a big lass' or ' i have an xxl dress you can have it if you want'.

While these people did not say this stuff to be mean to me, it was so insensitive and they really did not seem to grasp how rude it was.

Suddenly i have lost all this weight, and they are silent.
It is so annoying and frustrating, while i did not do this for them. Where are their comments now? Why is everybody silent.
Really.

Yes my reward is fitting into smaller clothes, being able to do so many things i could not previously.

But my god, i am so disheartened by this all (really making me think about even wanting to be friends with these people in future or not).

Has anybody had a similar issue?

Again i do not buy the shy excuse, they were not shy making insensitive inhelpful comments in the past.

Thanks for reading

Well done OP, I know how difficult it is to lose weight (I've tried - and failed - many a time!). You have done this for your own health and self-esteem, nobody else's, keep that in mind. Personally I don't mention weight loss unless I know that the person is trying to get slimmer, in case it's a health issue that they're not comfortable talking about. Having said that, I'd never EVER mention that someone is plump, that's so rude.

FurForksSake · 08/10/2025 07:39

I’ve lost 5.5 stone, I also now walk with a stick and I’m on long term sick leave. People very rarely comment on it, they are obviously terrified to. The two things aren’t connecting, but I absolutely understand the reticence.

Seagullstopitnow · 08/10/2025 07:47

Honestly, I don't mention it to people any more because I work with at least 4 people that are on the jabs. A couple are pretending they've had no help, which I think is disingenuous and winds me up. I don't care how they got there, but I don't appreciate lies.
Because of that I don't mention it to anyone if they've lost now.
I think a lot of people are of a similar mindset.
Well done! I bet you feel amazing!

To be honest though nobody owes anyone an explanation of how they’ve lost weight. I wouldn’t see it as lying. They’ve just chosen not to share something which is none of anyone else’s business

That comes across as really bitter. I’m genuinely surprised she seem to feel entitled to know people’s medical details. And also appear to think weight loss is about how you do it, rather than for health and the end result.

i do consider it lying, unlike the pp. but i feel some lies are justified, and its ok to lie. And this is one of those situations, i do not feel you’re entitled to know someone’s private medial details. In any way shape nor form. And I feel if you’re so desperate and entitled then you deserve to be lied to, as it’s none of your business.

I am open and tell everyone, but I’d lie to you. Without a moments hesitation.

For many reasons, firstly I am not going to enable you to judge me. Secondly my weight loss is not about the journey but the end result primarily for health and yes appearance as a secondary concern, thirdly I am stubborn enough I don’t want to give you the satisfaction of knowing for sure, fourthly, as I’d enjoy it, and fifthly your resentment and bitterness is palpable.

Seagullstopitnow · 08/10/2025 15:09

I don't think i was clear enough.

I really don't care how people get there, but when people are not actually asked, and will gush to anyone listening about how they just cut out snacks I lose respect for them.

I have another colleague that due to health reasons can't have the jabs. She feels like shit because her peers are managing to lose just by "cutting out snacks"

Another one has put it down to hypnosis rather than mounjaro. Why lie?

All of them have actually told me too. That's the issue with lying. You forget who you've told.

Just say nothing if you feel it's so private 🤷🏻‍♀️

As for the "bitter" comment
I was offered jabs by my GP before they exploded onto the market. I said no and lost it through gym and diet. It was fucking hard, but it was right for me. Just like a sleeve was right for a family member and jabs for other friends. I don't judge them and they didn't lie about it

i guess this shows how different i am to many people, i would never make an insensitive indirect comment to a big person as i know how much it can hurt (something people had no issue saying to me in the past and were not shy about it)

but at the same time when i worked in a well known busy shop in a city center, if i saw somebody who had lost weight i would always say it, always being nice to them.

its so hard to think every single person has gone shy or thinks i might be very ill. lol

I think it’s nice to compliment someone too op. If I noticed the weightloss but you hadn’t mentioned it, I might say - “Oh hi op. How are you doing? You’re looking fabulous! “

I would never refer to someone’s weight who I didn’t know very well.

I certainly wouldn’t call anyone a big lass - because I’m not a cunt.

And well done on the weightloss! How did you do it? I’d love to know I have 3stones to lose!

i first used to eat tildas pilau rice, its 330 calories for the whole thing, but i threw a bit out to make it 300 calories
then - morrisons best of roast beef slices are literaly 29 calories each, take 1 or 1 and a half or 2 if you must
shred it into very small sslices and mix it in with the rice
then bulk it up with a ton of lettuce.. i used a pack of shredded lettuce at just 18 calories
the trick is to start eating, and then wait 20 minutes for satiety to set in
a bit of rice and a couple of pieces of roast beef will normally not fill you up, but done this way, it really does
takes a lot of will power as this is without sauces or anything, its very very bland
i would have that a couple of times a day
nothing before or in between or after
and then at night time, a cordial low sugar not sweet - but heated up to taste sweeter - that would satisfy my cravings for late night comfort
i dont know how i did it (my diet then moved on to two slimming world meals), but thats what i did for the first four months........ it was absolute hell for the first 6 weeks, even 3 months in i would have some nights where i wanted to order a takeaway so bad! but i found that hot drink of cordia, really does satisfy that comforting hot food craving

  • it was only because of getting use to this, that i then moved on to slimming world korean beef noodles, super low calories, very low fat 2.2g for the whole thing
  • i would have it twice a day nothing before/ between/ after, in fact im currently still living on that... it really triggered cravings at first because its a lot more tasty than bland rice and lettuce, but after a week i got used to it, and i have it hot, and slowly....... and ive lost well over 5 stone through this

That’s really concerning as so unhealthy you are missing so many nutrients, I’d be deeply concerned about bone density, muscle mass, hair etc with so few nutrients in my body, losing weight is critical, I get that, but it’s really important to do so in a healthy manner and not starve your body of essential nutrients, thus creating other issues which will cause issues down the line,

If I knew a friend was losing weight this way, I wouldn't comment because I would assume that they had severe issues around food, possibly even an eating disorder. This sounds so restrictive and unhealthy, and I wouldn't want to upset them by commenting on it

actually what is unhealthy? the slimming world meal is full of veg, and if you are referring to the first, i took zinc chromium vitamin d/b/c calcium k7 and omega 3, and plenty of water
there was very basic protein from the beef, and lots of carbs from the rice
also.... i was dangerously overweight, at the time all what mattered was losing the weight

please read my last post, im not just saying it to make it up, i can show you my drawer i have a ton of vitamins, not random complexs with low amounts, strong amounts of vitamins to make up for any deficiencies, and again i moved on a while ago to two slimming world meals korean beef noodles, only 2.2 g of fat each, i have two of them a day, thats it nothing before and after
i still want to lose another stone by the way
when i do that, i will be a bit more lenient on myself, but will never ever ever give myself off days or just order that one cheeky takeaway because thats how everything started years ago

ChickenWingChickenWings · 09/10/2025 11:13

I had this, lost 5 stone and no one noticed or commented, not because they were people that dont comment on peoples bodies because even my mum or sister never mentioned it and they were the first to tell me if i put on weight!

SilenceInside · 09/10/2025 11:40

@laylay9 you surely realise that eating two of the same ready meals each day, every day, and nothing else, is not a diet that anyone would or should recommend or support. Even if you take lots of vitamins and minerals alongside. They are too salty, not enough protein, and definitely nowhere near enough vegetables. Also nowhere near enough dietary fibre. What are you going to eat when you are at your target? Still ready meals?

You've just made what I said even more relevant. Eating 900 calories of ready meals a day and then saying you will never allow yourself a day off or a takeaway ever again is just unrealistic and putting pressure on yourself. Anyway, good luck

LondonLady1980 · 09/10/2025 12:00

I haven't read the whole thread so this may not be relevant to your case OP, or it may already have been discussed, but the impression I've been given is that large weight loss is now assumed to be down to WLI so people don't acknowledge it so much anymore. It's not seen as the 'achievement' it used to be and so therefore isn't congratulated upon so much.

Disclaimer: this is not my personal opinion, but just an interpretation that I've picked up from other people.

thanks for replying i started off 16 stone i am now 11

Incredible love, well done on the weight loss. Im not far off the same. I've lost 1.5 kilo in a week. After I have my baby (im pregnant) im intending to really go for it and lose a lot of it. My husband likes curves and I wouldn't want to lose more than 4/5 stones but I just want to be healthier and walk quicker without feeling breathless.

If people dont mention it its not the end of the world. I wear loose clothes and I dont really have a fuller face to match my plus size body. What matters is youre happy and youre doing well 💗

I just don’t see that in the real world, I see it on here though, usually through bitterness or resentment, the op isn’t asking for congrats either on her weight loss, she’s talking about if it is visible.

astonished about the folks who have now decided weight loss is purely about rhe effort they perceive rather than the fact it’s for health and appearance. Does it get any more bitter and jealous.

It may shock you to find out that people on MN also exist in the real world 😆

A friend of mine has lost loads of weight on Mounjaro after struggling for years. I'm not bitter, or jealous (I'm pleased for her and her children) I just don't see anything to congratulate her for 💁I'm happy to remark that she looks great (she does), but I see no reason to say "well done".

I think it would be worth speaking to your GP and asking for a referral to and dietician. Your aims are laudable but I think you could do with adjusting to a more sensible and balanced approach now. This is quite disordered eating and supplements aren't enough to counter it.

isthesolution · 09/10/2025 13:15

I don’t think it’s ok to comment on someone’s weight and have taught my children the same. It’s rude and inappropriate.

And yet, when I gained weight due to medication, most people saw that as a personal failing and judged me for it. We all really need to get our brains straight on this.

these are slimming world meals
(i dont like the term ready meals lol - ready meals can be as high as 800 calories and have 50 grams of fat, and full of junk and dont fill you up)

  • unfortunatly after many many many years of obsessively ordering takeaways, my only way out of it has been to do this rutheless diet, no off days no extras not even extras like a bana or a 99 calorie low fat snack - it all ads up. however, when i lose the last stone, i will slowly ease myself onto other things
OP posts:
SilenceInside · 09/10/2025 14:36

@laylay9 I looked up the nutritional value of the specific ready meal from Slimming World and based my comments on eating two of those a day and no other food.

They are better than daily takeaways, certainly, but that’s not a recommendation! You could do something like add a microwaved ready prepped bag of green veg alongside which would not add lots of calories whilst adding fibre, vitamins and minerals to your diet.

Lurkinginthefens · 11/10/2025 02:40

I have lost over 4 stone and I think it generally is a bit awkward now because of the jabs, there's a whole mindset around that topic in and of itself isn't there. I have used mounjaro and am now maintaining /losing still, I got comments at about the 9 and a half stones mark, from 12 st 7,and there's been indirect ones to my husband since I'm nearer 8 of the is she OK variety 🤣,
