So as per title, I joined SlimmingWorld on Wednesday after years of neglecting myself. I became a diabetic two years ago and I never really bothered doing anything about it. Which I know is awful. It’s not that I was in denial or that I didn’t know how, it was that I sometimes have no control over food. I’ve had a food addiction ever since I could remember. I started gaining weight when I was 10 years old. I remember feeling like the odd one out. I feel like that now still. I know I don’t want to go into my 40s feeling exactly the way I felt in my 20s and now 30s. So all of that changes today!

I am currently 18 stone 6.5lbs.
I need to be 16 stones 8.5lbs in order to lose 10% of my bodyweight. So that’s my first weight loss goal.

I also have a goal of managing my diabetes from here on in, whether that may be with medication or food. I have invested in a libre2 plus sensor and I have joined the gym. So no excuses now.

I’m excited to be going on this journey and sharing it here. I know I’m not the only one out there who is on this journey, so please post here and we can all support one another. 😄

Hey , welcome along

10% is a MASSIVE achievement and with SW easily done - a year and you will be there not a bother

SW always sell themselves as no food is off the table

Only as your journey goes on, you find your triggers, the foods you need to avoid . Mine is white bread and butter, but I never cut it from the start - I made room for it, it's only now whilst maintaining I restrict it to once a week.

The base bones of SW are cook from scratch , eat from all food groups, and make each plate half veg or fruit , Do that and you will be grand

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 30/08/2025 16:28

thank you so much @suki1964
I love cooking from scratch (never used to) so this is good for me.
It’s good because my whole family can eat it as well. I’ve seen some very yummy recipes in the recent magazine as well.

are you currently doing slimming world?

I'm doing SW. Had an awful few weeks over summer hols but I will get back on track! It's a great plan based on common sense and healthy habits. Fill up on plenty of fruit and veg, use pulses and beans, lean meat and low fat dairy for protein and monitor your intake of processed food!
How are you finding it so far?

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 31/08/2025 07:25

@NurseP it’s really easy to follow isn’t it. It all about filing up on the right foods and changing your mindset. I know it won’t be easy.
first two days I struggled & I had a really bad headache, it reduced me to tears. Last two days have been better.

im sure you’ll get back on it soon. Summer holidays are a nightmare! I gained 4.5lbs on our 2 week holiday this summer.

Mind set is definitely key! I also gained on holiday but then I think I would have gained more before SW as wouldn't have been mindful at all.

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 02/09/2025 22:37

@NurseP that’s true!
First weigh in tomorrow morning. A little nervous! But I’ll update tomorrow.

Sure you'll do well. Let me know! X

Greenfingers37 · 02/09/2025 22:52

I joined SW just under 2 weeks ago. It has completely transformed my eating and drinking habits and I find the app so helpful! I lost 3lb in my first week. Hoping for at least 1-2lb loss this week.
Good luck on your SW journey!

I remember my first week - was hell on earth. I wasnt using the app correctly so thought I was over syns by lunchtime and really limiting what I was eating ( my friend killed himself at the same time of my first meeting so I forgot what was explained and was all over the show ) . Got myself to another meeting mid week , explained what was happening, and the consultant sat down with me, went through everything again, and made sure I understood how to use the app

Never been hungry since :)

This is why, even. though I had never had a good word for SW previously , Im adamant it works - because of the support

The support is fantastic , get the right consultant who runs a good group , you are elected.

We have two in my area, I use both but the one I call home is just great. We have such a laugh, we have a lot of socials, both on and off plan - weekly walks, bi monthly meals , drinks etc. We invite group members if we are having big birthdays , we have a private FB group, we become friends

As a target member of nearly 2 years, I still go near on every week , for the support and to support others starting out.

When they see the photos of me the day I walked in the door, hear how I struggled with losing just small amounts each week, and still got and maintain target , they know they too can do it

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 03/09/2025 10:01

Well done @Greenfingers37 🎉 what’s your goal? The app is really easy to use and definitely a benefit. It’s making me look at the way I eat for sure.

congratulations @suki1964 that’s incredible! It’s good you still go, I do find the meetings useful. I need to be consistent and stay for every meeting because I know I benefit from it. The leader that runs the group that I go to, is just lovely. She high fived me this morning. 😃

sorry to hear about your friend though. 😢 🤗

@NurseP I lost a whopping 8.5lbs this week! I couldn’t believe it.

So,
SW: 18st 6.5lbs.
CW: 17st 12lbs
First GW: 16st 8.5lbs.

If anyone who is reading this is struggling. Jump on board, if I can do it, anyone can!

NurseP · 03/09/2025 11:35

8.5lb!!! Wow! Well done!! Fantastic start!!

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 03/09/2025 16:29

Thank you so much @NurseP

I’m very happy with that number and determined to never see the 18s again.

That's an impressive loss - well done you - you will be getting your stone within the month and your 10% not long after - in time for Christmas anyways - and how wonderful its going to be to be comfortable and happy in your outfit of choice, rather then just any darn thing that fits :)

Well done you x

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 03/09/2025 19:58

Thank you @suki1964
I hope so. I cannot wait it buy a nice new red dress for Christmas. 😄 x

I started at 12:6 and my first interim goal is 11:3.

That's fantastic :)

Id love a 3lb loss in a week

Im post meno, it's been long and slow, plus Im an active alkie so use my syns on whiskey ( had to stop the red wine ) so all that I eat has to be Syn free. It's easy enough , I eat a lot of grains, veg and protein. Id be skinny if I could know the booze on the head , but hey ho, it is what is is

Keep the booze down and follow the plan, the weight is easy lost, and easy maintained

You will definitely get there pretty soon I reckon. 😀

what exercise is everyone doing?
I was supposed to go for a swim this morning but I really lacked motivation! I did go for a walk this afternoon. So that’s something. 😄

Feeling really motivated on the food side of things this afternoon. I’m about to make an all Free spaghetti bolognese for dinner tonight. What’s everyone else having?

Yesterday wasn’t a good day! I did some binge eating. No reason for it. I just woke up in the morning and that was a choice that I made.
I’ve drawn a line under it and I’m back on it today. I’m hoping for a 5lb weight-loss this week but we’ll see.

Hope everyone else is doing okay?

Good for you getting back on it today!! 💪
I weigh on a Friday-lost 1.5 lbs yesterday so 4.5lbs in total in 2 weeks. Pretty pleased with that.

I always feel so much better when I eat healthier. No cramps or bloat! My work uniform isn’t snug like it was before I started this journey. 🎉. X

Well done for drawing a line and getting back on track! I have had a crappy August but now back in the zone! I feel ready to be eating healthy fresh food.

Slimmingworldnewestmember · 06/09/2025 16:44

@Greenfingers37 haha. It’s a nice treat once in a while. I’m more of a vodka girl. 😋

Thank you @NurseP I’m feeling a lot better today.
Well done for getting back in the zone. 😄 are you going to go to a meeting?

OP posts:
NurseP · 06/09/2025 17:31

I go to a group on a Friday. I enjoy it tbh, it really helps me stay on track. I need the accountability! Are you going to a group?

Greenfingers37 · 06/09/2025 17:35

I love going to my Friday group. Ditto to the accountability!
