Haven't dared weigh myself today as ate quite a lot yesterday, including large helping of pasta bolognese with the kids

MunchedTooManyMarsLady · 19/01/2005 14:03

I lost 1.5lbs with ww this week. Am feeling really proud of myself and hoping it lasts.

nasa · 19/01/2005 14:04

sorry www didn't realise that. Could it be to do with time of the month or something? Stick with it I'm sure you'll see more loss soon.

I'm on day one of WW - as I seem to be utterly incapable of the self discipline required to do cod's way [shame]
I'm already bored by it....
but more determined to be strong

gingerbear · 19/01/2005 14:05

went for 'power walk' for 40 minutes at lunchtime.
Am knackered!!!

iota · 19/01/2005 14:06

I've been doing power housework - well that's my excuse for not going to the gym

gingerbear · 19/01/2005 14:08

www, quite often if you lose a lot in first week or two, the weight loss slows down - 1-2 lb per week is what WW reckons is a steady longer term weight loss. Have you increased your exercise?? That will burn it off faster.

gingerbear · 19/01/2005 14:09

LOL at iota doing 'power' housework. Dressed in Wonder Woman costume aerobically vacuuming the lounge......

iota · 19/01/2005 14:10

gingerbear - have you been peering through my net curtains?

gingerbear · 19/01/2005 14:18

Doh, you caught me looking
Work out how many calories you burned

my 40 min walk burned 200 calories!

iota · 19/01/2005 14:28

oh Gingerbear I like that link - 2 hrs of power housework has burnt 422 calories. Pity though as I only seemed to have burnt a total of 700 so far today.

I love seeing the calories tick away on the cardio stuff when I'm in the gym, but it's getting my fat ar$e down there that seems to be my problem

gingerbear · 19/01/2005 14:31

From the website I found earler:

to lose 1lb in weight you need to burn 3500 calories more than you eat.

to lose 1lb per week = 3500/7 = 500 calories per day.

SO, exercise more and eat less - burn 250 cals per day and eat 250 cals less.

(I am sure it is not that simple, but as a rule of thumb, seems to make sense....)

iota · 19/01/2005 14:41

eat 250 cals fewer a day than you need

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 19/01/2005 17:43

www I am now 10 11 so have only lost three pounds this week - much slower than the first week. But I think if I can lose a pound/2 pounds a week then thats great - I've only got five more to go anyway .

I feel much slimmer and my clothes seem to fit properly now.

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 19/01/2005 20:00

But I MUST be doing something wrong mustn't I? And I have no idea what it is. I am keeping to the cals and exercising (walking) quite a bit, at least 2.5 miles every day or every other day and no carbs except 1 poxy piece of toast in the morning. Aggh. OK, someone tell me what I've done wrong today:

1 piece toast, no olive spread, just marmite = 100
1 apple =80
220g prawns with lemon juice = 300 (? can't find my book)
small bunch grapes (100?)
1 portion mange tout (50)
1 large mushroom grilled with no oil (50?)
1 trout, cooked in foil with no oil (200?)
1 box raisins (50?)
about 10 tic tacs = 10
And, for the first time, I picked at dd's cheese sandwich, so even if that was 200 cals, which I sincerely doubt, then I'm still under 1200 calories. I despair. But will keep at it in the sincere hope that I've lost some when I weigh myself next Weds. Still no booze and the stress means I could really do with a drink now. I might have a 165 cal sesame snap instead. I know they're high fat but I'm not eating dairy and I need the calcium. And I think I should be able to have up to 1500 and lose weight. Gah! Thanks for listening again.

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 19/01/2005 20:10

no toast for breakfast www, and not so much picking? Cant you eat more of a proper lunch and supper?

I would say stop ALL sweet things - even tic tacs and raisins as they can raise blood sugar which makes it harder to lose weight.

I bet you'll lose by Friday if you keep that up though.

Don't know what cod will say, think she has a dodgy tum from pph's lunch (joke!!) so may not be around.

littlemissbossy · 19/01/2005 20:13

www IMO I don't think you're eating enough, what about more veg, salad or fruit as snacks?

GreatBigFatHeiferEnid · 19/01/2005 20:13

just read through it again -thats bugger all that is. I would collapse if i only ate that - you MUST be losing, surely??

sis · 19/01/2005 20:25

WWW! I am no expert, but you mad woman! your poor body has probably gone into starvation mode and is refusing to burn any enery cos there is so little energy goin in. Eat more carb and/or oil/butter etc!

Oh and drink loads of water.

lowcalCOD · 19/01/2005 21:18

hi
sorry to hear that www

you do seemt o be eatign very little I havent time to scroll down but can someon remind me of her story so far
r how much has she lost to date?

OP posts:
nasa · 19/01/2005 21:27

6 lbs cod but I think that was all in the 1st week adn nothing since then

nasa · 19/01/2005 21:28

think sis is right - you could actually be eating too little

weightwatchingwaterwitch · 19/01/2005 21:37

Gosh, thank you all for the support. OK, I think my body going into starvation mode is the most likely explanation since I really, really don't think I've been over 1,500 cals a day and I have been exercising so maybe I haven't been eating enough? Enid, maybe it is the sweet things, I thought maybe it was the rice cakes so I've stopped them but I have been trying to not be hungry since I decided that if I am I will give up and therefore I have been eating fruit when I'm hungry. I've just had a piece of toast while typing this and am going to have a small piece of chocolate while watching desperate housewives. Thanks for all the suggestions, I'm really grateful. Cods, I started on the 5th Jan and have lost 6lbs but they were all in the first week. No booze since then.

lowcalCOD · 20/01/2005 10:09

yes ok I am still losing although i HAVE HAD THE ODD INDULGENCE ( NOT ON A PAR WITH BEFORE)
oops sorry

so try and eat healthily nad perhaps not count calories quite so much?

OP posts:
littlemissbossy · 20/01/2005 10:11

still hanging in there, haven't had any treats, desperate for a packet of crisps now!
don't know how much weight I've lost this week, haven't weighed myself (AF), may leave it until Monday

emmaTooMuchGrub · 20/01/2005 10:24

I'm giving up now.

Still not had any bread and only a teeny weeny mishap with chocolate but as I'm not losing any weight I think I'll stop my daily witterings.

Pissed off that I'm not several pounds lighter after all my hard work. I just keep going up and down 2-4 pounds.

And I haven't even had a single creme egg.........

Good luck to you all ladies.
