hello @ToutesetBonne and congratulations on the leftover maltesers!

I was feeling like I was doing well because I had an early conference today so I just had espresso and water (trying to do intermittent fasting) but then when I got home for late lunch I massively overate. Not quite worked it out... I think I need to sit down and work out eating and exercise timings in a good old fashioned spreadsheet!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/06/2025 19:44

@triplecheeesewhen I have days like that it’s usually that I haven’t drunk enough as well, and I get this insatiable hunger and even if I drink loads it doesn’t take the edge off. When you fast you burn through your stored glycogen and that uses a lot of water so it makes you extra thirsty. Same as if you run on an empty stomach, you need to replenish the water far more than you think before the hunger hits.

I was supposed to be doing a fast day today but I stayed down with Maggie last night after her op and I had a dreadful night, constantly being woken by a 23kg lump sitting right on me or a wet nose touching my face. I could just tell this morning it was not going to end well- I did eat ok meals and I also took a break in the afternoon and listened to my hypnosis recording for 30 minutes. I will try to do that again actually because I do find them useful. In all though it’s not been a great week with birthday meal and cake and lots of other bits.

I’ve been to Asda though and got nice salad bits in and have cooked a load of eggs and other healthy things so I don’t get tempted by sugar tomorrow.

@thenewaveragebear1983 that's really interesting. I definitely didn't drink enough water! I'm going to ease into it, start with 12 hour overnight fasting then increase. I am okay running on an empty stomach.

boiled eggs are such a good snack! Note to self to do some tomorrow...

triplecheeese · 05/06/2025 22:22

Sorry Maggie is feeling rough @thenewaveragebear1983 (why don't we have an edit function on posts!). Go easy on yourself!

TalkToTheHand123 · 06/06/2025 07:37

Love to all.

I needed some milk and tried out a new Asda on the way home. It wasn't as good as my local Aldi, so won't be returning! I did manage to avoid picking up and burgers or sausages again which seems to be getting easier. I forgot to buy crisps so won't be having any of those for a few days!
One of my customers said I looked like I had lost weight which was quite a shock but very pleasing and motivating.
Habe been forgetting to drink water a lot over the last few days so hopefully can catch up a bit today.

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/06/2025 08:59

Hi all. I'm about to embark on basically a 24 hour shift, although it includes 10 hours sleep. I have a few tubs of home made carrot soup and a couple of tubs of sweed mash and some crackers. (I probably should be a bit more creative). There are about a 100 takeaways nearby and an Iceland to try lure me off track.

The diet is going quite well though. Eating very little junk food now. I'm still pigging out, but on healthy food only really and now thinking about cutting down on my portions, which doesn't terrify me as much as it did a few months ago.

I've been doing quite a few twisty exercises recently to ease back pain and this seems to be the other main reason for feeling slimmer around the waist.

Only a few weeks ago for holiday. I had hoped to be a bit slimmer, but at least I seem to have managed to slim down a little and have a little more time to manage a little more.

I'm not sure what my eating plans are when I'm away as it's an eat as much as you like. Fortunately it's not the same for drinking!

TalkToTheHand123 · 07/06/2025 21:55

Let myself down eating a full quiche offered to me. It didn't taste as nice as I used to recall. Checked the nutritional information later which hopefully has given me the extra motivation to refrain for next time.

I managed to refrain from being talked into a takeaway tonight and even avoid any supermarket cooked at home pizza, although that was only due to not being offered any 😂.

A handful of crackers getting me through these late hours tonight. Going to drink some wster as forgot to drink much as usual today. I'll be doing a few exercises to ease back pain in a moment before 💤 also.

Typed too soon... having a lasagne ready meal which was offered. Oh well, not too bad overall.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 08/06/2025 07:42

Urgh I ended up having both Friday night and Saturday night drinking wine, yesterday we went to a party with Ds’s football team and it was literally beige buffet and tonnes of it, hardly anyone came so we felt a bit obligated to eat it. So I feel quite rough today 🤣 my healthy June has not really got off to the best start!

anyway, onwards - I am just finishing up my coffee then will take Maggie out. I really must do a run today, I have a half marathon next Sunday and I have done very little training. The fridge is actually well stocked with nice healthy foods so I need to plan a few meals and get myself sorted for the week ahead. It’s dry and sunny here so I plan to do a bit of gardening. I planted a little veg patch a few weeks ago and I noticed yesterday that it is getting some little veggies on it, sugar snaps and spinach looking good so I need to tend to that as well.

triplecheeese · 08/06/2025 08:10

Well done on the long shift @TalkToTheHand123. Sounds like you're feeling better and seeing progress. When is the holiday? I am going away in August and can't wait, though the scales are still creeping up so need to figure that out.

@thenewaveragebear1983 same on Friday and Saturday and now I have a headache and am psyching myself up to go out for a run. I think my alcohol intake is creeping up as well so I'm going to avoid the wine for a while.

Got another busy / stressful week at work coming up next week, so I'm making some plans to keep on track:

  1. don't skip workouts
  2. no midweek wine
  3. pack sensible snacks for work to avoid the stress eating
  4. fasting 12h between dinner & breakfast

if I can get through the week without a gain I'll be pleased!

TalkToTheHand123 · 08/06/2025 10:52

Holiday is from 26th July for a couple of weeks. I've lost a little I believe, so I'm fairly content. Anything from now will be a bonus.

I could have done without the quiche and lasagne as I'm quite sure these will not be scale friendly for me. Hopefully I learn for next time as it seems to have caused a bit of an upset tummy.

The tubs of swede were really nice and seem to be good for digestion so will pick some more up today as I need to pop to the supermarket for a few bits anyways.

TalkToTheHand123 · 09/06/2025 11:14

Hi all. Slipped up a bit yesterday which included a sausage sandwich and hash browns whilst at Sainsbury's when popping in for some drain unblocker.

On an unscheduled long fast at the moment as didn't have time for any breakfast before heading out and won't be able to have anything until 12pm.

I'll finish off my last tub of soup when I get home in an hour or so, then make another batch. I need to start thinking about my portions now and keep up the mini exercises.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 09/06/2025 20:50

Didn’t manage a fast day today, I’m too hormonal! My food has actually been ok though and I went for 3 short walks! I was absolutely craving chocolate so badly earlier, thank goodness there was nothing in the house, I would have eaten it all. Dh offered to go and get me some but I declined, and had a handful of Kp dry roasted peanuts instead.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 09/06/2025 23:33

Awww. I have failed miserably today but hopefully feeling yuk from eating rubbish will help get me to get back on track.

triplecheeese · 10/06/2025 08:39

I have come down with a head cold so feeling grotty and not sure if I can force a run tonight! Today is an office day so I've stuffed my bag with sensible snacks in an attempt to head off meeting room biscuits.

well done on the chocolate avoidance @thenewaveragebear1983 , I would absolutely have sent DH to the shops!

sorry that you've had mixed results @TalkToTheHand123 but remember it's all in the round so one bad meal or day doesn't blow up your whole week! Sounds like you're making progress.

Office days are good for steps at least and maybe the city breeze will blow away my germs...

TalkToTheHand123 · 10/06/2025 12:24

Aww thanks. It was a couple of bad days of junk food, but it only takes a small amout of it for me to put a lot of weight back on.

I feel a bit better now although I have had a scone whilst out at a cafe. All I can do is keep trying and not give up. I'll make some soup and cook some chicken and veg when I get home.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 10/06/2025 20:10

You’re like me @TalkToTheHand123, you carry a lot of water don’t you? I can put 7lbs on over a high carb/sugar weekend, it’s very demotivating but I try not to let it be. Are you quite muscular? I think for me it’s because years of running have just given me very “strong” legs and the muscles hold a lot of water. Although I do weigh myself and track actual weight, it does help me to have a ‘range’ and I know if I’m likely to be nearer the top, or if I’m weighing after a run for example I’ll be right at the bottom. The truth is usually the middle

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 10/06/2025 23:45

I wouldn't say I was muscular. I do get a lot of bloating though and a bit more sleep wouldn't go amiss.

TalkToTheHand123 · 11/06/2025 17:53

Mother said today "You look like you have lost weight"......then said "You'll have to lose as much as you can before your holiday".

TalkToTheHand123 · 12/06/2025 13:36

I reckon one of my customers has caused me at least a half a stone gain in weight, so I need to learn to say no to food offers. I don't really understand why people offer you or insist you eat food like cakes or biscuits when they know you are on a diet.

I'm putting myself in the mindset that she is trying to throw me off track even though I know she isn't.

I'm still annoyed with my mam's comment. If she mentions she thinks I've lost any more weight, I won't be saying thanks!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 12/06/2025 14:06

@TalkToTheHand123honestly I think we just need to get better at saying no thank you. If someone’s happiness depends on you eating the same food as them, they have bigger problems than they realise! I think it’s perfectly ok to say that you don’t want something, especially if it’s something shop bought, not particularly nice anyway, that you don’t actually want. I think if we cut out eating the things we don’t actually want first, it’s low-hanging fruit isn’t it? Easy things to start with. It doesn’t require willpower (it takes no will power whatsoever to not get on a bus that’s travelling in the wrong direction). However what it does require is for us to deal with that social expectation to ‘join in’. In work scenarios etc I find once you’ve said a few times that you’re trying not to eat cakes/ biscuits/ sweets etc people do stop asking. However, people are weird about food and especially about diets.

At my work on Tuesday there was a conversation I overheard blatantly listened to - employee 1, very slim, was rattling on about fasting and how she was doing a fast day and she gets ‘hangry’ and was describing her 600 calories menu, laughing with a colleague she lift shares with about how she shouldn’t do long journeys in fast days because she gets road rage 🙄 Same team, employee 2 - I’d say around a size 14, said she was going to give up sugar for June and everyone said a) how she didn’t need to diet (which is none of their business anyway) and 2) how you shouldn’t cut out essential
food groups 🤣 ooooh I was biting my tongue not to chip in but I just listened thinking how weird people are about what other people eat 🤣

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 12/06/2025 19:42

Chip in to say what?

I'd say it's more a lack of willpower and wanting the food rather than not wanting to upset. The willpower is building up though.

There is a local Iceland though and ended up popping in before my shift and getting an Indian meal. I have only myself to blame for this....but it was delicious.

I think I need to factor in treats rather than going hardcore, I just need to work out how regular I can cope with.

TalkToTheHand123 · 13/06/2025 12:21

I was feeling a bit slimmer this morning, but then thought it would be a good idea to have some spring rolls and cheese bites. Now I feel like a beached whale. Oh well. Going to make some tubs of fruit and veg later as need to use up. Have some soup waiting to cool also.

Doing a sleepover shift tonight, but relatively optimistic I won't falter from now on.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 13/06/2025 13:51

I’ve been really enjoying wraps this week, I bought mission brand plant power wraps and I’ve had goats cheese and sweet chili with salad and today I had ham, salad, and tabouli with salad and mayo. The tabouli seems weird but actually it needs sonething solid but wet to kind of hold it all together with. I watched a YouTube on how to roll and tuck the wrap and it’s a total game changer! I never normally eat bread so it’s been a real treat every lunchtime.

I’ve also been really enjoying my new standing up desk, I’ve not sat down yet today!

OP posts:
triplecheeese · 13/06/2025 21:55

I think you're right that people are weird about food. Food is like a language for many of us and we can't easily change our conditioning about that. I'm actually finding it a bit tricky from the other side ... it feels like everyone at work is on weight loss jabs and I can't bring them food treats any more so what do I bring!!! lol

@TalkToTheHand123 your mam's comment annoyed me too! My mum has bought me a swimsuit for my birthday and said "I'm not sure if you'll like it because of course I was older than you when I gained weight" oh of course... sigh

It's more about them than us and I think that the food pushing is part of the same concept. I read an article about how people find it threatening when someone who previously had the same habits (food, alcohol, exercise) suddenly change what they're doing. It's the idea that it takes a lot of courage to pose the question to yourself "am I living my life in the best way?" and there can be shame and anxiety in the answer "no". So someone making that change - to eat differently, not drink, whatever - is interpreted as a criticism of everyone who isn't making that choice. I'm probably not expressing that well but it made sense to me when I read it...

triplecheeese · 13/06/2025 21:56

PS absolutely rubbish week over here. I've had a heavy cold, worked out once! Start again next week...
