Gorgeous doggy ❤

well done @TalkToTheHand123 you've inspired me to get off the sofa and hop on the treadmill for 20 mins tonight.

well I'm pleased that I met my PT. She understood everything I was saying about being good at exercise but bad at nutrition. She said at "our age" (she was being generous) we have to start thinking of food as fuel for the rest of our lives. Which I liked, but then ate a snickers later so it's not sinking in.

Ohhhh @poorpaws I am so glad you're back online properly. You keep me honest! It's a brilliant question. You'll remember when we first met how I have issues with anxiety and overwhelm, and the thing that really helped me lose weight was stripping it all back and just trying to do one thing at a time (not the 100 plates at once I usually fail to spin)... I guess I took that a bit far so while I was trying to sort other life things out, I have not thought about food at all, just ate whatever crossed my face and figured I'd deal with that later. I've been eating my feelings and rewarding myself with food. But ... the first step is coming back here to talk to all of you... who get it!

poorpaws · 30/05/2025 20:39

@triplecheeese oh I so get eating your feelings, I’ve been doing that all this year (since my lovely dog died in January) and the lbs have just been piling on. Also of course my chocolate addiction has got worse. I was saying on here recently but just before you came back, I gave up cigarettes (difficult), I gave up alcohol (quite easy surprisingly) but chocolate and ice cream (impossible).

TalkToTheHand123 · 30/05/2025 23:02

Got through the evening with soup, a banana and a few crackers (I'm doing a sleep shift, so no access to my kitchen). Usually I take loads as panic I will be hungry, but for the last couple of days I've been getting into relaxation exercises which seem to calm binges and craving quite a bit.

Have been doing lots of mini exercises as get sore back working on the laptop. Some tummy tensing also.

I managed to sit in a restaurant without ordering food today with the thougth of scales showing a reward in a couple of weeks.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/06/2025 07:48

It’s 1st June today lovely ladies, my summer countdown is on! I go away on 9th August so that is just under 10 weeks today, with a couple of milestones thrown in (eg bday is 7 weekends away) etc. I’m so tired of feeling tired, frumpy, none of my clothes fitting me etc etc. so it’s game on. We have a ridiculous busy June ahead, with 3 Saturdays out for football awards, our anniversary, and tickets to see Pulp, so I am certainly setting myself a challenge - but anyone who knows me probably recalls that I love a strict challenge so in many ways it helps me.

i’m starting my calorie cycling regime today- today being a Sunday so it’s 1500 for me today.
I walk every day with Maggie anyway, but I am going to write myself a short dumbells routine to do every day, plus keep up my running (I have a half marathon in 2 weeks which I am grotesquely unprepared for)
food is simple meals with lots of veg, on my lowest calorie days I will do 800 cals, normal days 1200 and “high” cal days 1500. Cut right back on sugar, flour and alcohol. Limit the carbs except veg.
And as always, drink lots of water and take my supplements

I am also making the controversial decision to NOT weigh myself. Will weigh today and then try not to hop on the scales for a least a couple of weeks. I’m going to do my measurements and take a couple of pictures and then just get my head down and get on with it. I have a pair of jeans which do fit but not comfortably and a pair of shorts which I would love to wear on holiday so I am going to use those as my target to keep me on track

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/06/2025 08:56

Awww @thenewaveragebear1983 , I'd planned to stop weighing myself often for a few reasons, but decided to weigh myself just now and it seems I'm a little over 14.0 stone, so a little gain. I'm not too dispondent as I'm only a few days in on my latest diet plan of eating lots of veg and soup and usually start benefitting after a week or two. I do need to be patient and keep going.

It's just under 8 weeks to my holiday, so going to try real hard now.

poorpaws · 01/06/2025 08:58

Oh no no no I’ve just lost a really long post again.

poorpaws · 01/06/2025 09:00

Yet again it’s if I go into edit when posting, if I just post it works but if I go into edit it disappears.

poorpaws · 01/06/2025 09:01

I’ll post again later, it was a really long post and I can’t start again.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/06/2025 09:31

@poorpawsyou could try typing it out in your notes on your phone then copy and paste into the thread, at least then you won’t have the frustration of losing your post. I would definitely start a thread in the site stuff topic as well as it could be a glitch on the site

OP posts:
poorpaws · 01/06/2025 10:26

@thenewaveragebear1983 thank you. I don’t think there were actually any mistakes in it so that makes it doubly frustrating. I’ve now turned the edit function off and I think I’ll just read it through as I type. I find even if there are mistakes you can usually understand the post.

as I said earlier and lost it, I’m going to lunch with my daughter today so I’d better start moving and I’ll post later or tomorrow.

TalkToTheHand123 · 01/06/2025 19:56

Had a packet of chicken meatballs which I bought from the shop not long ago. Could have been worse. A couple tubs of soup and a couple of oranges to keep me going until 12pm tomorrow. Some crackers as emergency supply.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 01/06/2025 20:38

I weighed myself when I got back from wales, I’ve gained about 3lbs while away although obviously a lot of that is wine/ water retention/carb overload rather than actual fat.
i started well today, with a dog walk and ended up on 1300 cals which was actually under my 1500 target for today. Tomorrow is a low cal day, 800 max.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 02/06/2025 08:12

I've been quite busy last couple of days which makes me forget about food a little. The meatballs were quite addictive. I wanted more straight after. I'll try avoid next time. I believe they gave me a little upset tummy also.

I'll make some soup when I return home. It's day 4 now since I started. Hoping to notice a difference by this weekend if all goes to plan, although clothes feeling a little loose already.

TalkToTheHand123 · 03/06/2025 09:32

Hi all. I ate a big batch of fish and veg last night and some soup which stopped me binging on my usual junk. I haven't noticed much reduction in tummy shape, but I am starting to feel the muscles more and feeling a little less bloated. Clothes are feeling a bit more loose, so I'm feeling quite motivated now. I won't be weighing as I'm not confident it will show a loss.
Hopefully this month I can lose a good few lbs and noticable improvement in body shape around tummy area.
I've managed to use up most of the fruit in the fridge as this was my go to first food when entering the kitchen. Plan to use up a bit more food in freezer and cupboards before going shopping again.

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/06/2025 12:18

I'm out and about today. I have a packet of crackers with me to stop me wandering into food shops and going off track.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/06/2025 13:38

@TalkToTheHand123good planning!

I had yesterday pretty much off plan as it was my son’s birthday. Today I am back on it, I should come in at around 1200 calories. I have budgeted for a wrap with ham and salad for lunch but I am holiday off as long as possible. I went for a run at lunchtime and I am planning to do my workout after work

my doggo is in for her op today to be spayed, I’m hoping no news is good news and I really miss her around the place. She’ll be on very reduced walks for a few days at least so that means I can squeeze some extra running miles in.

also, I have treated myself to a new standing up electric desk! I have wanted one for ages but couldn’t justify it, however after seeing the chiropractor again and she basically said it’s my desk position when working from Home that’s causing a lot of my aches, I needed to buy a deeper desk anyway, so have treated myself to a nice standing one that rises up and down so I am really looking forward to that arriving!

triplecheeese · 04/06/2025 20:21

@TalkToTheHand123 sounds great, I'm hopeful you will see a loss soon! Good planning with the crackers.

@thenewaveragebear1983 good luck with the standing desk! I do feel so crumpled up after a day slumped at my desk, keep us posted on how you get on with it.

@poorpaws did you manage to get anywhere with your tech woes? I'm sorry we missed your update!

I'm loving the running at the moment. I took up trail running in January after moving house and it was pretty miserable when I was unfit in the freezing mud (remember how wet it was! Bleak!) but I've had a great time bounding about in the spring. Unfortunately for me I'm hungry so the scales are going up and up and I can't seem to stop them. I need to be smarter with eating an exercise - how do you do it @thenewaveragebear1983 ?

today I got up, had a shot of espresso and straight out of the door. That's fine for a morning run but any later in the day and what I've eaten really makes a difference.

today I had:
morning: espresso, run, then a protein bar (6am)
office: cheese croissant 🩷
lunch: butterbean and feta salad
snacks: peach, orange, chocolate almonds
dinner: prawn linguine

i guess it feels like quite a lot written down, I didn't need the office snacks, but i'm stressed at work and I tend to eat my stress.

triplecheeese · 04/06/2025 20:23

@poorpaws i looked back and it looks like I lost a post too! It was mostly moaning about myself but the important bit was that I wanted to give you my condolences for the loss of your wonderful dog. It sounds like all your animals have a fulfilling and loving life with you and I wish you comfort and peace.

If you got that message the first time so much the better!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 04/06/2025 21:09

@triplecheeesei really struggle to be honest. It’s very hard to balance running and calorie deficit. I am hoping that this calorie cycling will help, I can play around with my amounts but it does mean I have to go very low some days. But then it’s hard to run if the day before I have had a fast day. I won’t lie, it’s tricky and I made the decision this year that I had to stop eating back any exercise calories because it’s impossible to guage and like you I was noticing the scales go up thinking this isn’t bloody fair. I still run more than anyone else I know and I find it so very difficult to lose weight. 😢

TalkToTheHand123 · 04/06/2025 23:02

Hi all. The back pain from working on a laptop is the main reason for my sessions of regular stretching.
I somehow managed to get through the day without visiting a bakery or takeaway. I stuffed myself with a bowl of veg and potatoes when I got home.
It's been a few days now since any big sausages or burgers have passed my lips and the tummy starting to feel less bloated, so quite pleased so far with this attempt, touch wood.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/06/2025 06:23

@TalkToTheHand123my laptop/work set up is the cause of most if not all of my aches and pains. It’s amazing how much difference it makes if you’re set up properly. First thing my chiropractor did was get me to reorganise my desks. Although I do do a very screen heavy job.

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 05/06/2025 07:09

I do most of my work at the laptop sitting on the couch. I make little adjustments every few mins and do a few stretches now every 10mins or so.
I have a breakfast table in the kitchen which I may be able to use as a standing desk if I remove the clutter!
I did some weights last night and a couple of hours earlier than usual so quite pleased.
Doing a few tummy tenses before I need to get up. I saved some potato and veg for this morning from a big batch last night rather than scoff the lot in one go.
Have a few visits this afternoon so will make some more later when I return.

ToutesetBonne · 05/06/2025 07:48

Still here :-).

I may have had a breakthrough! Last night I'd bought some chocolate (Maltese's - always my downfall) but ate only half of them because I'd HAD ENOUGH!!!!! To the best of my knowledge this has never, ever, happened before!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 05/06/2025 08:14

@ToutesetBonnethat is unheard of, well done 👏

OP posts:
TalkToTheHand123 · 05/06/2025 09:14

Well impressed @ToutesetBonne , I can't have chocolate in the house. I'm tempted.to do the same with crisps.
I have started drinking some chocolate milkshakes though.
